Week 1: What is charity Charity in its simplest form is friendship with God. We desire to be friends with God. We desire to know him. Week 2: What are the enemies of Charity? Sloth, envy, & pride Week 3: Why is charity important? Because it's the essence of holiness. We can do all the right things, but without love, there is no point in doing it. Week 4: What are the fruits of charity? Joy, peace, and mercy. When I seek to love God above all things, and my neighbor as myself, I am joyful, I have peace, and a desire to receive and give mercy. Tonight: What is the sacrament of charity? It's the climax… Sadly, most people who go to Mass every week don't believe in the true presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. In 2024, the Church aims to change that. 2024: There will be a big Eucharistic congress in Indianiapolis, and all are invited. 4 Eucharistic processions from four major cities will end up on a pilgrimage to Indianapolis. The Eucharist as sacrifice, presence, and communion: 1. Sacrifice: “It's not a meal. It's a partaking of a sacrifice that happened more than 2,000 years ago. Every time Mass is celebrated, redemption is at work. Because what happens here on this altar is a representation of what happened on Calvary 2,000 years ago, when God poured out His blood for you and me.” 3rd Eucharistic prayer: ‘May this sacrifice of our reconciliation, O Lord, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.'” This perfect sacrifice helps us spread it throughout the world. 2. Presence: The Body, Blood, Soul, & Divinity of Jesus. 3. “Communion: Through the Eucharist, God wants to espouse himself to us, that we become and we share in the same union through this communion. God doesn't want to just be among us, he wants to be inside of us. This union transforms us, once again, to go and bring Him to others whom we meet.” More on Presence of Christ in the Eucharist: St. Paul, today, talks about the obedience of faith: “Sometimes we doubt. Sometimes we struggle to believe God is there. ‘God, you say you're there, but I don't experience it that way. God, where are you?' “When I became a priest, it took a lot more faith for me to believe God gave me the power to say those words. ‘Lord, help me to believe, because sometimes it just looks like a piece of bread.' When we struggle to believe or have certain doubts, that's precisely where we need the obedience of faith, handed down to us by Jesus—to be obedient to that faith. Whenever we give ourselves in obedience to something, you will fall deeper in love with it. So, for those people who might struggle to believe—maybe in the Eucharist—maybe in another hard teaching of the church, I invite you to surrender in obedience to the faith of the Church. When you give yourself in obedience to something, you will fall deeper in love with it.” —Fr. Sean Conroy “The Eucharist is a sacrament of charity because Jesus gives himself to us—body, blood, soul, and divinity.”—Fr. Sean Conroy “Jesus, as we approach the altar today, help us receive this Eucharist as the first, the last, and the only time we ever get to receive you. And may it transform us to be more like you. May you be with us and in us.”—Fr. Sean Conroy
