Though most divorcing couples intend to put the best interests of their children first, their own emotions get in the way. So, how can divorced parents learn to prioritize their children’s needs and create a trusting and constructive coparenting relationship? How can they help their kids build resilience in the aftermath of divorce? Risa Garon is the Cofounder and Executive Director of the National Family Resiliency Center (NFRC), an organization that provides counseling and educational programs to help children and adults cope, heal and navigate through divorce and other family transitions. Risa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Family Life Educator with nearly 30 years of experience helping separating and divorced couples develop parenting plans that focus on the developmental needs of the children involved. On this episode of Divorce Dialogues, Risa joins Katherine to explain why it’s challenging for divorcing parents to put the best interests of their children first. She walks us through the four components of NFRC’s child-focused decision-making model, discussing how she considers what both parents want—but prioritizes the child’s needs. Our world faces complex problems that simply cannot be solved with the same thinking that got us here. We desperately need diverse voices to tackle crises like large-scale conflict and climate change. And while we may consciously believe that women have the same right as men to lead with our words, many of us still hesitate, fearful of how we might be perceived or convinced that our ideas aren’t good enough. So, how do we learn to trust ourselves and feel safe in sharing our truth? Today on Women’s Empowerment School, Sylvia is sharing the tenth chapter of her book, 12 Leadership Powers for Successful Women, ‘The Power of Your Word.’ She explains why our subconscious minds are still programmed with the outdated stereotypes of 7K years of patriarchy, making us believe that it isn’t safe for women to speak out, and addresses the perception around women who talk often versus men who speak up regularly. Most women have a love-hate relationship with words like LEADERSHIP and POWER. Yes, we want to make an impact and influence others. But the patriarchal model of leadership is that of a bully who uses their ego to wield power over others. Someone who is not particularly kind, loving or compassionate. How can we redefine what it means to be a good leader? And what are the characteristics of strong leadership in an evolving, post-patriarchal world? Today, Sylvia walks us through the first 6 of 12 new leadership traits or freedoms that helped her navigate her father’s death. She explains how the freedom from fear and self-doubt helped her make decision after decision without browbeating anyone (including herself!) and describes how freedom from the need to please supported her when others disagreed with her handling of a situation. Sylvia goes on to discuss the freedom from resistance that allowed her to surrender to the moment and achieve a flow state despite circumstances beyond her control. Listen in for Sylvia’s insight around embracing the paradox that comes with freedom from time pressure and learn how being free of perfectionism helped her find beauty in a messy, imperfect, surreal situation. Most of us understand that remembering is subjective, but you may be surprised to learn that your biased memory influences the reality you create! When you project your memory of a person or situation (and added judgement) on current circumstances, people respond by living up to your expectations. How does this work? Can you use this creative power to script a different outcome? Today on Women’s Empowerment School, Sylvia is sharing the seventh chapter of her book, 12 Leadership Powers for Successful Women, ‘The Power of Projection.’ She explains why there is no such thing as an objectively stored memory, discussing the fluid nature of memory and how it changes over time. Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Advisor & attorney Garrett Sutton stops by the podcast show to share his extensive expertise on asset protection strategies for real estate investors.  Learn to protect your investment portfolio whether you are a small investor with just one or two properties locally, or a real estate mogul with millions of dollars worth or property spread across multiple states.  This is your chance to learn from a true expert who is highly regarded in the real estate investing community. You can even have your asset protection setup by the same attorney used by Robert Kiyosaki.   Key Takeaways The first line off defense against a lawsuit is to have good business practices to begin with. Real estate investors are always at risk of a lawsuit, whether it be from a tenant, a worker on a rehab project or even if you are in a car accident. Attorneys like to go after insurance policies first. If there are too many obstacles in the way of them collecting, they are less likely to pursue a case against you. You can have multiple layers of asset protection by forming an LLC in a state which has very strong corporate laws; and the cost can be minimal.   Resources & Books Mentioned Book: Loop Holes of Real Estate (Rich Dad Advisors) by Garrett Sutton CoporateDirect.com   Sponsors FlipLender.com Direct access to funding for your flips.   Topics Covered Why asset protection is so important for real estate investors. But how do you master the art of attention management for yourself as well as the people you lead? Today on Women’s Empowerment School, Sylvia is walking us through the third chapter of her book, 12 Leadership Powers for Successful Women, ‘The Power of Your Attention.’ She explains why attention is one of our most precious resources and how you can connect with others by addressing their point of focus—and then move their attention in the direction of your desire! Sylvia discusses the two forms of attention, neutral and charged, offering insight on how we can be manipulated through either desire or repulsion to fixate our attention on someone else’s intended goals. Listen in for a powerful written exercise that will help you harness your own attention and understand why you ARE where you place your attention. Topics Covered Why leaders need to master the art of attention management The definition of attention as the brain energy exuded by focus The idea that ‘you are where your attention is’ How to connect with others by addressing their point of focus The vital leadership skill of pacing and leading Why the brain resource of attention is so easily drained The two forms of attention Neutral – free, at our disposal Charged – through desire/repulsion How people can be manipulated through charged attention Sylvia’s powerful exercise of listing your items of fixed attention How a strong emotional charge can fixate your attention Why leading with free attention affords you more energy Connect with Sylvia Becker-Hill Women’s Empowerment School WES on Facebook WES Podcast Show Notes Sylvia on Instagram Subscribe to WES on iTunes Subscribe to WES on Google Play Resources 12 Leadership Powers for Successful Women by Sylvia Becker-Hill WES EP004: The Power of Total Alignment WES EP008: The Power of Purpose Fix My Brand with Ali Craig Sylvia’s Facebook Live Trainings
