Happy Wine Wednesday! Matt of The Communies fan account joins me this week to talk about one of my absolute favorite shows and fandoms of all time - Community! Our conversation is part of the podcast's Boozy Beginnings AKA pilot project series in which we discuss the pilot episode of various tv shows.  Matt and I head over to Greendale and kick off our discussion with what drew us to Community, whether we we completed the series, and then the deep dive into the pilot. We start by talking about the pilot's introduction to two of the more memorable characters from the series - Craig Pelton and Greendale Community College.  From there, we talk about our initial impressions of Jeff Winger and other memorable introductions to the study group members.  We were both struck at how fully realized these characters clearly were from the very start. Y'all know I love a little lighthearted zodiac fun, so I asked Matt to identify his big three signs in the form of Community characters.  Although we were both huge fans of the episode, there were a few minor things we might do differently.  Related to that topic, I asked Matt to share what his version of Community would look like if he were in charge of a revival or reboot of the show.  No discussion of Community would be complete without talking "Six Seasons and a Movie" - so of course I asked what his Community movie would look like. The main discussion closes with our thoughts on why you should keep watching, our favorite fandom moments, and we get a little less than wholesome with some fun Community-inspired thirst prompts.  Matt graciously stuck around and discussed overall thoughts about the series in a spoiler segment following the main discussion. Thanks for listening! Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time! Lost and Found - Community - series (Netflix) -  Episode 75Before Dan Harmon attained cult status for creating the black comedy satire animated series, Rick and Morty, he was known for a relatively lesser-known comedy television series called Community. That's the Lost and Found for today's episode, I'm your host NikhilSet in Colorado in the fictional city of Greedale, a disbarred lawyer named Jeff Winger joins a  local community college after his firm finds out that he did not have a legitimate bachelor's degree. Jeff, played by Joel McHale, decides to make the most of his time at the community college and brings everything in his repertoire to convince his classmate, Britta Perry, from his Spanish class to go out on a date. So he creates a pretend study group just for the two of them, only to discover that Britta invited another classmate, Abed Nadir, a slightly eccentric movie buff, who invited a host of others as well. The Spanish study group soon becomes a very tight-knit club as the series chronicles their misadventures. Dan Harmon has left an indelible mark on the series with his signature humour, satire, social commentary, and surreal set-pieces. The narrative at times requires a suspension of disbelief, but the over-the-top elements are deliberate additions carefully crafted to parody tropes from popular films and TV shows. Allison Brie essays the role of Annie Eddison, a bright young student who has a history of a public mental breakdown in high school, Donald Glover plays Troy Barnes a former NFL hopeful whose career prospects were dashed by a serious knee injury, Yvette Nicole Brown as Shirley Bennett, a very religious mother of two who dreams of expanding her horizons, whereas Chevy Chase essays a wealthy elderly man who has a penchant for being politically ‘incorrect', and Danny Pudi plays the heart and soul of the story, Abed Nadir, an eccentric movie buff who often struggles to communicate well with others. Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, and John Oliver play other important characters in this criminally underrated TV series. If you haven't watched Community yet, it's streaming on Netflix.Well that's the OTTplay Lost and Found for today's episode , until the next time it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj  kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten By Ryan Gomez

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Air Conditioner Repair, published by Zvi on June 27, 2022 on LessWrong. A thing happened to me, seemed worth sharing. What Happened A few weeks ago, the in-wall air conditioner in our bedroom ceased to function. Troy Barnes was unavailable, so instead we talked to the super, he recommended a company called Amhac, we ignored normative determinism (e.g. “Am a hack”) and called them. They charged a rather large amount simply to come out and take a look, with a diagnostic fee and also a noticeably generous per-hour fee. Then, a few days before they were supposed to show up, our other in-wall air conditioner sprung a leak – or rather, the leak got big enough that we noticed it – and the super advised us we had to shut it down until it was fixed, but he thought that one would be a simple fix plus the addition of a failsafe that should have been there to stop the leak; he wasn't sure about the bedroom one. The repairmen showed up, but they hadn't completed the necessary certificate of insurance to be let into the building – this policy is even more annoying and friction generating than it sounds – and we had to reschedule while they sorted this out. A number of rather hot nights later, they managed to come in. Their report was that both air conditioners were unfixable. The one in the bedroom was completely shot. The one in the living area was fixable in theory, they said, but due to some EPA regulation it wasn't possible to fix it. They could send over a contract for the new units, it would be. $28,000. I Googled for various new air conditioners, and couldn't find ones that would be that expensive. The guy explained I would need two of each unit, for four units total. I asked some trusted friends about all this, as well as the super, and all agreed a second quote would be a very good idea. I asked the super who else had done work in the building, and he remembered M.LaPenna Refrigeration, Inc. They charged by the hour as well, but without a ‘diagnostic fee' up front. Which on reflection should have been a hint about the first company. If you're charging for the labor, as you do, starting with minute one, why is there an additional diagnostic fee? It doesn't actually make any sense. This time, they took care of the certificate of insurance as fast as the insurance company could handle it, then got a guy out to look the same day that got approved. Almost as if things were urgent. Different attitude. Instead of two workers, this time there was one, who was keen to explain to me what was going on as he worked. The super was busy, so I explained the situation as best I could and he got to poking around in various places. Two hours later, both air conditioners were working again, and they sent out for the part to install the failsafe. I asked the man if there was any way the other repairmen could have made an honest mistake saying the units needed to be replaced. His answer: “No.” If I hadn't checked, I wonder how much they finally would have tried to get me for, but I'm sure it was a lot. What To Do About That First Company? I'm not sure. I emailed my contact to say what happened and suggested a full refund would be appropriate. The response was that the person was on vacation for weeks (with no warning). Which did not endear me. If it was one unit, I could imagine an honest mistake. But it wasn't. It was two units, with distinct setups, experiencing distinct problems. This was not a mistake. What am I supposed to do now? Chargeback? Report to better business bureau? Report to someone else? Do something else? What's the responsible thing to do here? I don't know. Thoughts and Takeaways What about takeaways in general? First of all, get a second opinion. Do not trust contractors of any kind, who you don't have damn good reason to trust, who tell you that you need something massiv...

He, of course, credits his very talented team for actually getting the job done. The biggest thing that management tries to endorse is that when they talk customer, they practice customer. Meaning that rather than simply talking about the customer experience, he and the team actively get out into the world and experience what the customer experiences so that they can improve on that very thing.

Des séries et des hommes

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 10, 2017 58:02

Episode 12 of the Frozen North Dinnercast proves to be the most epic podcast of all time. In addition to the regular band of misfits, we've got two East Coast who didn't know any better: all the way from NWR Connectivity, which is Zach's other podcast, comes Neal Ronaghan and his lovely wife Lauren. Couldn't get a better bunch of people together. I'm not saying this show was difficult to edit, but it DID require editing, which is unusual. Beer was consumed, and topics of unspoken social taboos came up. I'm not sure a bunch of white people can discuss this hilarious YouTube video starring Troy Barnes, but it WAS, and I cut that shit out of the show. So there's THAT. But you know what? We talked about other things instead, like Wes Anderson's Batman movie (thanks to Crosstawk Comics for that brilliant spoof. Then there's something about Superman choking a bitch, false allegations that Zach doesn't know how to fucking read, an incredible feature film starring the incomparible Vanilla Ice, a hair-licking cat, and a certain Rob Zombie song that was EVERYWHERE in the 90's. Like the show? Of course you do. You should leave a note on the website (www.crosstawk.com) or sit down and take five minutes to rate and review us on iTunes because happiness is what powers our souls, like Care Bears but with more booze. You can follow most of us on Twitter: Zach @zmiller1902, Marcus @Marchaos1, Neal @nron10, and you can try to follow Lauren @sohavewe but don't be surprised if she completely ignores you. As usual, Gina, Nelson, and Courtney remain ever vigilent in their off-hand dismissal of that superior social media platform.
