Real Estate guru Sherif Medawar discusses the benefits of investing in real estate and explains how individuals can set up their own real estate funds. He emphasizes the importance of productive assets that generate income and provide leverage with banks. He shares his extensive experience in the market, including owning historic properties in Old San Juan and luxury homes in San Francisco. He also highlights the value of giving back and teaching others, offering free live events and training to help aspiring investors. He explains the process of setting up a real estate fund, including the five P's: people, projects, positioning, performance, and profit. He provides a turnkey solution for individuals to customize their own funds and attract investors. The funds can be used to finance various types of real estate projects and assets, offering a fixed return to investors and the potential for compounding over time. He also discusses the advantages of his fund structure, including no fees and the ability to refinance assets instead of selling them. In this conversation, Sherif discusses the benefits of real estate investing and how to set up a successful real estate fund. He explains the process of finding single tenant buildings and attracting national tenants to increase property value. Medawar also shares insights on reducing taxes and asset protection through equity stripping and setting up a Wyoming LLC. He emphasizes the importance of staying proactive and promoting new programs during challenging times.Takeaways• Investing in real estate provides the opportunity for income generation, leverage with banks, and protection against inflation.• Setting up a real estate fund allows individuals to attract investors and finance various types of real estate projects and assets.• Sherif Medawar emphasizes the importance of giving back and teaching others, offering free live events and training to help aspiring investors.• The process of setting up a real estate fund involves considering the five P's: people, projects, positioning, performance, and profit.• Setting up a real estate fund allows investors to pool their resources and take advantage of larger investment opportunities.• Finding single tenant buildings and attracting national tenants can significantly increase property value.• Reducing taxes can be achieved by routing income through structures in U.S. territories like Puerto Rico.• Asset protection can be achieved through equity stripping and setting up a Wyoming LLC.• During challenging times, it is important to stay proactive and promote new programs to stay ahead of the competition.Sound Bites• I believe unless you have productive assets, meaning assets that produce income, you really will not be able to retire.• With real estate, you can have the leverage with the banks. You can have an asset that over time will beat inflation and then keep bringing you income.• I try to give people what I hoped and was wishing somebody would give me when I was starting. So I structured when I started making a lot of money in real estate, I realized I should help others. I should teach. That's the way to give back.• You cannot make it so enticing and over promise and then under deliver because the investors are going to be very upset.• They get the cashflow, they get the upside.• You just went into a property that was vacant. Put the national tenant, it jumped in value.Listen & Subscribe for More:

He holds a MSc in Medical Management from the ESCP Business School and worked at companies like Sanofi, Novartis and Alcon before joining Oculis as CEO in 2017.Oculis' pipeline includes a topical eye drop candidate for diabetic macular edema and for the treatment of inflammation and pain following cataract surgery. It also includes a candidate for dry eye disease and for non-infectious anterior uveitis, and a candidate for acute optic neuritis. The company's origins are in Iceland, where the OPTIREACH® solubilizing formulation technology was developed by two Icelandic co-founders, Professors Einar Stefánsson and Thorsteinn Loftsson, to enable eye drops to reach the back of the eye. Nowadays Oculis is headquartered in Switzerland, with operations in the US and Iceland. Oculis has raised a total of $284.6M in funding over 13 rounds, and went public in 2023 (the only Swiss IPO of that year) before their product was even live. Video version available on HCPLive! In this episode of New Insight, host Veeral Sheth, MD, MBA, director of clinical research at University Retina and Macula Associates, speaks with Riad Sherif, MD, chief executive officer of Oculis, about the company's groundbreaking advancements in ophthalmic therapeutics. The discussion delves into Oculis' clinical pipeline, particularly OCS-05, a neuroprotective agent demonstrating promising results in acute optic neuritis. The Phase 2 ACUITY trial showed that OCS-05 preserved retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), reduced axonal loss, and improved low-contrast visual acuity. Importantly, patients receiving OCS-05 experienced significantly fewer multiple sclerosis relapses, suggesting broader neuroprotective potential. Administered intravenously alongside corticosteroids, the therapy could represent a paradigm shift in preserving vision in acute optic neuritis and beyond. Sheth and Sherif also explore Oculis' lead candidate, OCS-01, a topical treatment for diabetic macular edema (DME) that utilizes Optireach™ technology to penetrate the retina. With two ongoing Phase 3 trials (DIAMOND 1 and 2), OCS-01 has the potential to offer a non-invasive alternative or adjunct to intravitreal injections, expanding treatment options for patients with DME. Additionally, Oculis' OCS-02, a TNF inhibitor for dry eye disease, integrates a biomarker-driven precision medicine approach, ensuring targeted therapy for responders and potentially revolutionizing dry eye treatment. Looking ahead, Oculis is focused on executing its clinical programs, particularly finalizing patient randomization in the DIAMOND trials, advancing precision medicine for inflammation, and expanding indications for OCS-05 in neuroprotection. Sherif envisions OCS-05 as a potential game-changer, addressing significant unmet needs in ophthalmology and neurology by preserving vision and improving quality of life for patients facing vision-threatening diseases. Dr. Sherif Idriss is the CEO of Elastin Biosciences, a company focused on targeting aging-related diseases by restoring elastin, a key protein in the extracellular matrix that provides elasticity and resilience to organs and tissues. They are developing small molecule therapies for diseases linked to elastin deficiency, including Williams syndrome and abdominal aortic aneurysm. As elastin degrades over time due to aging, it leads to loss of tissue structural integrity and function, contributing to numerous age-related diseases. Sherif explains, "One of the hallmarks of aging is the loss of the extracellular matrix, which is composed of several proteins. Collagen is quite famous, but also elastin is the other major protein that is responsible for the elasticity of the different organs. For example, in our skin, the loss of elastin is associated with us looking older and having all the aging signs and wrinkles on the skin. If you imagine that there are other organs inside that we don't visually see, then you have also the blood vessels, the lungs, a lot of the connective tissue. The extracellular matrix proteins and elastin itself are also aging in the same way and have their own form of damage one way or another. All of this contributes to aging and aging-related diseases as well." "Another kind of disease is the category of rare diseases. In this case, we aim to target Williams syndrome, a rare disease characterized by a genetic partial deletion of around 26 genes. One of these genes is elastin itself, so some genetic material is still there, but there is not enough. We would like to try to push the elastin production up in Williams syndrome, and this would help rectify a lot of the disease issues, particularly when it comes to the cardiovascular system because Williams syndrome patients have quite a lot of issues with the cardiovascular system from birth and all through life." #ElastinBiosciences #Aging #AgingRelatedDiseases #Elastin #WilliamsSyndrome elastin-biosciences.com Download the transcript here
