In this Showdown episode, Conor and Caroline are out of the tower and over the palace walls to take the two captive Disney Princesses and pit them against each other. Is Jasmine the bold princess who can lead us into a whole new world or is she destined to take the backseat on Aladdin's Magic Carpet? Is Rapunzel's optimism a ray of sunshine or does it make you want to pull out your hair? Inspired by the Dream Big Princess campaign, Conor and Caroline are taking the leap to see how well these pent up princesses measure up to their three defining characteristics and inspire us to leave our ivory towers and see the world!Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and TikTok for fun content and exciting new updates!Join the Poor Unfortunate Fam, our Facebook Group for listeners who love the podcast and want to keep the discussions going! If you like what you're hearing, help us keep bringing you your favorite Disney content by making a donation to Poor Unfortunate Podcast today!*This podcast is not affiliated with The Walt Disney Company.Support the show

Buckle up for a wild ride—fictional vehicles included—in this episode of Wise_N_Nerdy! Joe is joined by the dynamic duo of Sarah Rose and Shannon for a jam-packed show that blends imagination, wisdom, and heartwarming nostalgia. The journey begins with the Question of the Week: "If you could have any fictional vehicle for your daily commute, what would it be?" From the time-traveling TARDIS to the flying Magic Carpet from Aladdin, and even Herbie the Love Bug, the hosts dive into the whimsical possibilities of upgrading your daily drive. With the roll of the dice, we leap into the "How Do I...?" segment, where our hosts break down how to choose the right pet for your lifestyle. Whether you're a couch potato or an adventurer, there's a furry friend for you—and the trio shares what to consider before bringing home a new companion. Then, it's time for some groan-worthy fun with a Bad Dad Joke—this one's going to the dogs, literally, with a pup suffering from a "fever." (You've been warned.)Next, the dice deliver the "What Are You Nerding Out About?" segment, where passions take the spotlight. Sarah beams about the Tony Awards and the brilliance of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Shannon unleashes her love for all things horror, especially the mind-bending work of David Lynch. Joe joins in with a sweet story of introducing his kids to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, followed by a thoughtful dive into the political layers of Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. The nerdy dice strike again, sending us into the "Parliament of Papas" segment. This week's parenting dilemma comes from Reddit: A party guest leaves after a dog jumps on him and the host refuses to restrain it. The crew debates pet boundaries, respect, and how to handle awkward social situations— skills required. Finally, things wrap up with "Daddy, Tell Me A Story", where everyone shares beloved pet memories, and Joe pulls out the big guns: tales of growing up with a real-life pet bobcat! The trio also dreams about which fictional pets they'd love to have—think Hedwig, Toothless, and more.Whether you're a pet lover, a fantasy fanatic, or just in need of a laugh, this episode is a feel-good rollercoaster that proves once again: it's good to Find your FAMdom.Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom

Episode 162 Chapter 23, Radiophonic Music in the United Kingdom. Works Recommended from my book, Electronic and Experimental Music This episode of the podcast is produced as a companion to my book, Electronic and Experimental Music, published by Routledge. Each of these episodes corresponds to a chapter in the text and an associated list of recommended works, also called Listen in the text. They provide listening examples of vintage electronic works featured in the text. The works themselves can be enjoyed without the book and I hope that they stand as a chronological survey of important works in the history of electronic music. Be sure to tune-in to other episodes of the podcast where we explore a wide range of electronic music in many styles and genres, all drawn from my archive of vintage recordings. I recorded this poddy on the Wild Lady, my girlfriend's canal boat. I find a lot of inspiration digging & plotting here - I'm surrounded by nature and the slow pace of the canal unplugs me from distractions. I guess it depends what side of the world you're listening

Tonight, we'll read the short story "The Magic Carpet" from the compilation called "The Day Before Yesterday" by Richard Middleton, published posthumously in 1912. We first read this story back in 2020. Middleton was a tragic figure- a young man impatient for success, who managed to live the archetypal life of the Romantic Bohemian poet, complete with poverty, unrequited love for an impossible woman, and an early, tragic death. No novels were published while he was alive. Soon after his death, the literary world discovered him. Critical acclaim followed for the brilliance of his work, and the brevity of his life. Four volumes of his collected works were published, including this one. If you enjoy this story, and also enjoy mild-mannered ghost stories, be sure to listen to “The Ghost Ship” written by the same author. Just search in your podcast app for “Snoozecast Presents: Spooky Stories”, or go to snoozecast.com/series. But just to reassure our more delicate listeners, this story, “The Magic Carpet”, is in no way spooky. It is about a young boy who uses his imagination to embark on whimsical adventures. — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Timestamps (full show notes here) [1:13] Venus enters Capricorn on Jan. 23 (12:50 am PST, through Feb. 16). It's time to get serious about relationships and the way we handle our money, to make beauty part of our business, and to create things that will last. [3:04] Moon Report! The Leo Full Moon (Jan. 25, 9:54 am PST, 05º14' Leo-Aquarius) is on Sabian symbol 6 Leo, An old-fashioned woman and an up to date girl. Celebrate what's unique about you and the beautiful artistic qualities you offer the world – but rein in the drama. [6:22] This is the Full Moon in a Lunar Phase Family Cycle that began on July 28, 2022, with a New Moon at 05º38' Leo. The First Quarter in this cycle was on April 27, 2023, the Last Quarter on Oct. 24, 2024. [7:18] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Jan. 22, the Moon in Gemini opposes Venus in Sagittarius (12:40 pm PST) and is VOC for just over sixty minutes, then enters Cancer (1:51 pm PST). Going after something you desire often means leaving your comfort zone. [9:04] On Jan. 24, the Moon in Cancer trines Neptune (2:58 pm PST), then is VOC for about 8 ½ hours, until the Moon enters Leo (11:36 pm PST). [10:35] On Jan. 26, the Moon in Leo squares Uranus (1:19 pm PST) and begins a 21-hour VOC (!!!) period, before entering Virgo (Jan. 27, 11:11 am PST). This examines how being ourselves conflicts with belonging to a group. [12:05] The Sun in Aquarius squares Jupiter on Jan. 26 (11:19 pm PST) at 06º49' Aquarius-Taurus. Watch out for conflict between progress and need for financial certainty. [13:52] On Jan. 26 (11:35 pm PST), Uranus stations direct at 19°05' on the Sabian symbol 20 Taurus, Wind, clouds, and haste. Don't move too quickly or make impulsive decisions that can't be taken back. [15:52] Mercury conjoins Mars on Jan. 27 (6:59 am PST, 17º17' Capricorn). This is the third in a series of Mercury-Mars conjunctions. The first was on Oct. 29 and the second on Dec. 27, 2023. This combination supports mental acuity and courage to say what we need to say. [17:09] On Jan. 28 (1:06 pm PST), Mercury trines Uranus at 19°05' Capricorn-Taurus. This is an excellent aspect for opening our minds to the sudden inspiration that seems to come from nowhere. [18:27] Venus sextiles Saturn on Jan. 27 (10:03 pm PST) at 6°00' Capricorn-Pisces. Build something that you love. [19:07] On Jan. 28 (5:02 pm PST), Venus trines Jupiter at 06°59' Capricorn-Taurus. What you love is your treasure.[20:35] Mars squares the Lunar Nodes at 18º02' Capricorn-Aries on Jan. 28 (6:19 am PST). The Sabian symbol for Mars, 19 Capricorn, is A child of about five with a huge shopping bag; the North Node is 19 Aries, The Magic Carpet. Giving over to faith and magic might get you farther along your path. [22:42] Listener Scout asks about separating lunar aspects. Check out Ep. 116 for a review on planetary orbs and this video about applying and separating aspects. And enjoy a disco light show as you boogie down the hill at Snow Riders in Harpers Ferry…on today's daily304. #1 – From WV TECH PARK – Teachers, are you looking for a unique educational tool? Science on a Sphere at the West Virginia Regional Technology Park in South Charleston brings weather science to life and fosters a love for learning and exploration among students. SOS was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The spherical display system uses multiple projectors to showcase dynamic visualizations of Earth, its atmosphere, and other planetary data. The National Weather Service and Tech Park teams have developed a dynamic presentation that appeals to a wide variety of age groups. By incorporating real-time weather data and simulations, students explore the complexities of weather patterns, understand the science behind forecasting and witness the impact of extreme weather and climate change. After the SOS presentation concludes, students and visitors can apply what they've learned during a tour of the National Weather Service's local forecast office. To book an outing to Science on a Sphere and the National Weather Service Local Forecast Office, contact Jordan Ferrell, WVRTP Director of Communications and Park Programs at jordan.ferrell@wvrtp.com. The latest offering from family adventure resort River Riders, Snow Riders gives an exhilarating downhill run that's three football fields long—nearly a sixth of a mile. Tubers enjoy up to 12 machine-groomed lanes, depending on conditions, and a Magic Carpet conveyor lift makes for a quick and easy ride to the next run. Snowmaking means the downhill fun can go on even when the weather is only marginally wintry. One fun feature of the tubing park is its Downhill Disco laser light show, a nighttime LED colored light show timed to change to the beat of the music. And that lends itself to fun themed nights—already planned for 2024 are an '80s Night, with all of the happy nostalgia of that decade's music, and a First Responders' Night, with a customized red and blue light show. Snow Riders is open every day in January and February, conditions permitting. Tickets must be purchased in advance online and include lift tickets, tubes, and, on request, helmets. Follow Snow Riders on Facebook for the latest on conditions and events and smile inducing videos. Aircraft carrier landings are generally regarded as one of the most difficult—and dangerous—activities performed in an airplane. Turn out the lights and add some ocean swell and these landings are downright treacherous. But with recent technological advancements comes a system that so simplifies and improves the safety of these landings that the U.S. Navy is exploring doing away with carrier qualifications as the capstone of a student naval aviator's training for the first time in history. On this episode, U.S. Navy Captain Dan "O.J." Catlin joins FPP cohost Matt "Flounder" Arny to discuss the precision landing mode, once known as MAGIC CARPET, that revolutionizes fixed-wing aircraft carrier landings to the point of nearly making them routine.Listener questions addressed on this episode include Navy flight school selection tracks, A/A training kill removal, flight callsigns, unique aircraft personalities, tips to succeed in flight school, and the lowdown on the F-22 pilot who raised his landing gear too early while operating in NAS Fallon, NV with a TOPGUN callsign.Episode artwork by Janek Krause.
