Welcome to the Creative Blood Experience. One culture-defining creative guest… One passionate host… And a deck of fifty question cards designed to yield incredible creative tips, real life experiences and untold stories from the artists working across the creative industries today!Originally from the gritty favelas of São Paulo, Brazil, Emerson Miller moved to Los Angeles to chase his dream of becoming a photographer. While working at a car wash on Hollywood Blvd, he had a chance encounter with Nicole Muirbrook – the wife of Taylor Sheridan, creator of smash-hit TV show Yellowstone – which landed him the gig as the show's on-set photographer, rapidly transforming dream into reality.Since then, he's shot everyone from Angelina Jolie to Kevin Costner to Dame Helen Mirren and Sam Elliott, with his work appearing in Vogue, GQ and Elle and on billboards all over the world. The job of an on-set photographer is a little-known, but integral role for any TV show and film, with their photographs used across everything promotional – including billboards, social media, magazines, you name it! Here, Emerson shares his personal experience of how he works on set (spoiler: it may involve interrupting Kevin Costner's reverie!), how he picks his moments between takes, plus, the charisma, talent and nerve needed to get that shot.“Angelina Jolie said to me “buddy your job here is literally 99% of the marketing and if you want me to climb a tree, I probably will, because we are helping each other””Follow Emerson @emersonmillerEPISODE INSIGHTSA window into life working on a smash-hit showLearning on the job (fast) and on-set etiquetteHow to identify and capture ‘the moment'The value of a mentorHow personal reinvention can take you where you want to beWhy a photographer's job is to remain open to the creative processThoughts on the episode? There's always been a feel-good, easy-times nostalgia for the 80s and 90s TV shows. More so now that we sometimes feel overwhelmed by the plethora of shows we have to pick from. If you feel me then you will enjoy this conversation. Our guest today is the award-winning screen and television writer, professor, and best-selling author, Pamela Douglas. Pamela is a member of the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America and a USC School of Cinematics Arts tenure professor for screenwriting. She is credited for her writing on shows/series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Ghostwriter (1992) to name a few.Aside from her awesome career as a screenwriter, she's an international writer with multi-lingual adaptations of her books (German, Mandarin, Italian, French, Korean, and Spanish). Pamela packed her expertise in her 2018 revised fourth edition of her 2008 book 'Writing the TV Drama Series: How to Succeed as a Professional Writer in TV'.The book is a complete resource for anyone who wants to write and produce for television drama series or create an original series, as well as for teachers in screenwriting classes and workshops. It leads the reader step-by-step through every stage of the development and writing process, offering practical industry information and artistic inspiration. The Fourth Edition leads readers into the future and engages provocative issues about the interface between traditional TV and emerging technologies. It's also the single most comprehensive source on what is happening in original television drama around the world, with surveys of 15 countries. As you will learn in this episode, Pamela's passion for writing goes back to her childhood. Even though she's dabbed in screenwriting for movies, she's discovered throughout her career that television carries a bigger pull in terms of communicating ideas, stories, characters, life, and experience. Its essence allows for vertical story-telling, expansion, and continuity to reveal newer plots and characters.Star Trek: The Next Generation is a classic sci-fi series set almost 100 years after Captain Kirk's five-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers set off in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on its own mission to go where no one has gone before - the exploration of the Milky Way galaxy.Ghostwriter is an American children's mystery television series that revolves around a circle of friends from Brooklyn who solve neighborhood crimes and mysteries as a team of young detectives with the help of a ghost named Ghostwriter who can only communicate through writing and words.Chatting with a seasoned screenwriter like Pamela, there is so much wealth of knowledge packed in every word. We talked about presentation reelers, the forex structure and her approach to it, and why she thinks The Wire is the best show of all time in terms of character, layering, and sterilized storytelling.Enjoy this conversation with Pamela Douglas. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2664729/advertisement

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Linda Evans, Multi-Award Winning Actress & Star of “Dynasty” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Linda Evans, is a beloved, multi-award winning actress, author and public speaker who's been dazzling the world with her talent, warmth, grace, spirituality – and yes, her legendary beauty - since she first came into our homes on TV as Barbara Stanwyck's daughter “Audra Barkley” in “The Big Valley”.   She's also appeared in a number of classic movies including “The Klansman” with Richard Burton, “Avalanche Express” with Lee Marvin, and “Tom Horn” with Steve McQueen.  And yes, that was HER playing “Sugar Kane” in “Beach Blanket Bingo”.  She also made 2 “Gambler” movies with Kenny Rogers, and she co-starred in the highly acclaimed TV mini-series “North and South Book 2: Love and War”.   But there can be no doubt that our guest has been forever immortalized for her unforgettable portrayal of the glamorous and highly likeable “Krystal Karrington” on the blockbuster TV series, “Dynasty”, for which she received a  Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series, and was nominated 4 more times for Golden Globe Awards, as well as receiving an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.   She also won 5 People's Choice Awards as Favorite Actress in a Drama Series.   In 1987, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  And in 1991, she delighted her loyal fans by resuming her role as “Krystle Karrington” in the TV miniseries, “Dynasty: The Reunion”.  In 2006, she reunited with her castmates for the TV special,  “Dynasty: Catfights and Caviar”.   In 2006, she and Joan Collins starred in a fabulous play called “Legends”, which I got to see in Toronto, at the beginning of their 9-month sold-out tour.   And then, in 2009, the whole world was rooting for her in the British cooking competition reality show, “Hell's Kitchen”, which she won.  And most recently, she can be seen in “Swan Song”, co-starring Jennifer Coolidge.   In 2015, she released an entertaining, poignant, spiritually uplifting and delicious memoir entitled, “Recipes for Life: My Memories”.   I've described the book as “delicious” because it includes some of our guest's favourite recipes.  And let me tell you: if you're a foodie like me, her famous artichoke dip, her crab and lobster cakes with mustard beurre blanc, her baked ham, her potatoes with cheese and garlic, and her lemon soufflé with raspberry sauce are EASILY worth TEN TIMES the price of the book. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Linda Evans, go to:https://www.lindaevansofficial.comhttps://www.facebook.com/LindaEvansOfficialpage/https://www.instagram.com/lindaevansofficial/ #LindaEvans  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

In this episode of Doing the Opposite: Business Disruptors, Jeff Dewing speaks to Nazir Afzal; Chancellor of the University of Manchester, and former Chief Crown Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service. He was the chief executive of the Association of Police and crime commissioners and is also a member of the Independent Press Standards Organisation Complaints Committee. Nazir explains to Jeff how the driving force throughout his career has been to provide a voice to those who don't get heard. He reflects on his childhood and the traumatic circumstances that motivated him to advocate for positive change in the world; from the racist abuse he experienced growing up to a member of his family being murdered by the IRA.  Jeff quizzes Nazir on the strategies he has employed to take on the establishment. Nazir confesses to having an extremenly high work ethic (he left prosecuting with 100 days of annual leave left to take!) so how did he find the time to reflect and consider the best course of action?  Jeff and Nazir also discuss the mindset of leaders in the public sector – particularly politicians. What could the public sector learn from private businesses, and is the behaviour of certain MPs negatively influencing our future generation? Nazir's book The Prosecutor is being made in to a TV Drama Series so keep an eye out for that very soon! Hosted by Jeff Dewing Watch the podcast on YouTube Discover Cloudfm GroupWebsite  |  Facebook  |  Twitter  |  LinkedIn

The Other 50% - a herstory of hollywood

Pamela is an award-winning writer with numerous credits in television drama. She consults internationally with professional TV writers and producers, and has lectured in Africa, Europe, and throughout the US. She was awarded the Humanitas Prize for Between Mother and Daughter on CBS, and she has garnered multiple Emmy nominations and American Women in Radio and Television Awards for her other dramas. Her book “Writing the TV Drama Series” just came out in it's 4th edition, and we talked about what is in the book and how to make it as a TV writer. She is also an amazing visual artist. Her house is filled with her art, and I became quite emotional looking at a couple of pieces, which really never happens to me with art. I thought it was stunning. I will link to her website and her book on my website so you can see and learn more.

How I Broke Into: Michael Prywes Interviews Artists and Entrepreneurs About Their Big Break

Janae Bakken grew up in Minnesota - where she spent too many frozen winters on the cross-country ski team, and went to college in Chicago - where she rarely saw the sun, so she made her escape to Los Angeles soon after graduation.  She worked on the production staffs of such shows as Mad About You, Caroline in the City, and Malcolm in the Middle before making the jump to writer, where she spent eight years writing on the critically-acclaimed Scrubs, rising from a Staff Writer to Co-Executive Producer.  Janae was twice-nominated for an Emmy Award with the other Scrubs writers.  In addition, she has written & sold television pilots for Warner Brothers, ABC Studios, MRC and ABC Network.  Janae was most recently a Co-Executive Producer on Freeform’s Baby Daddy for four years, and before that a Co-EP on Anger Management and Gary Unmarried.  In 2007, she was selected to participate in the WGA Showrunner Training Program.  In 2011, Janae was a guest professor at her alma mater Northwestern University, teaching Television Writing to the MFA Creative Writing students.  Notes from the show: Grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis St. Paul, MN. She discovered "The Wonder Years," her favorite and my favorite television show. Northwestern University's "Creative Writing for the Media" program - selected 12 people each year, was in the program with me, Breen Frasier ("Criminal Minds") Heavily influenced by the show "Friends." A lot of her friends back home in MN got married in their early 20s. She lived in London, England after college. Hollywood will always be there, but you're better off going without attachments. La-La Land. If you want to be in television, you need to be in Los Angeles. 20 years later, she loves Los Angeles. "Everyone's starting over... you're in it together." It helps there are so many alumni there. Has been in the workforce since the age of 14, but all Los Angeles jobs were "in the industry." First screenplay was a comedy. First TV job was a comedy. Gave a funny speech at high school graduation. First job she had in L.A., she got fired. Agency job is a good foot in the door. On her resume, she mentioned her job as "Gedney the Minnesota Pickle." William Morris called about it. Interview with Pang-Ni Landrum; Mascot life got her the job. Unruly: most people can't do funny. At least 70% who made it in television comedy went the assistant route. During all down time, she wrote scripts. Every night, after work, would stay at desk and work on own scripts. Skills went "through the roof" being in the room with great writers. Had "interview" with UTA, thought she was being interviewed. "The longer I have done this, the more I realize how hard it is to run a show. And it's really easy to see who does it well and who doesn't." "I'm not young enough to know everything." - Oscar Wilde "Baby Daddy" is over, and she can't wait to get back in a writer's room. PODCAST – Captain America Civil War: How to Build the Superhero Movie – Part 1

It's interesting to talk about superhero movies because there’s been a big change in the way these movies are built. One of the things that we’re starting to see is that superhero movies, just like other big budget action movies, are actually being built more like TV Drama Series than they are like Feature Films. Just like TV Dramas (and TV Comedies), rather than being built around a traditional character driven structure, these huge budget superhero and action movies are built around a concept called an engine. In a TV Series, the engine is a kind of unique formula, developed by the writers, that guarantees that the series can run for a very long time, creating the same feeling in each episode in a slightly different way. In these mega-budget franchises, the engine works similarly, allowing each “episode” to set up the next. A byproduct of this effect is that an individual action movie is no longer designed to create a cathartic effect that leaves the audience with a sense of completion. Rather, it is designed to leave the audience craving more, with untied strings in each installment setting up the next episode in the franchise, which will once again replicate the same engine in a different way.
