"The Diplomat" is one of Netflix's hottest shows as its first season garnered star Keri Russell award nominations from the Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globes, and Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The second season premiered to critical acclaim once again and has so far received more Critics' Choice, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominations than the first season. It's clear the Emmy Awards are next as the show looks to gain more than just Russell this year. Among them is director Alex Graves, who directed more than half of the second season. Graves was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about his experience directing the second season, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the series, which is now available to stream on Netflix. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... It's time for the premiere of our fourth season of “Here's the Thing with Alec Baldwin” at iHeartRadio. Our first episode features the woman behind what TV Guide called “the most famous soap opera character in the history of daytime TV.” Actor Susan Lucci inhabited the role of bad girl Erica Kane on ABC's “All My Children” for four decades, from the show's inception in 1970 until 2011. She earned the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for the role in 1999 after nineteen nominations – and in December 2023, received the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. Lucci's body of work also includes numerous television series, films and the Broadway stage. She is the author of All my Life: A Memoir and is a National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association. Susan Lucci talks with host Alec Baldwin about how she played a role that evolved over decades, how she realized a lifelong dream of performing on Broadway, and her thoughts on the rumors of a potential reboot of the beloved soap. Today, we're bringing you 7 super tips from the first Black woman to be nominated for three Emmys in the comedy category, Quinta Brunson. Brunson is an American writer, producer, actress, and comedian. She is best known for creating, executive producing, co-writing, and starring in the ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary. She gained popularity for her self-produced Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. At the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, she received nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series (which she won), Outstanding Comedy Series (as an executive producer), and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. At the 75th ceremony, she became the first Black woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy in over 40 years. Brunson was also placed on the Time 100 Most Influential People of 2022 list. 5x #1 Bestselling Author and Motivational Speaker Erik Qualman has performed in over 55 countries and reached over 50 million people this past decade. In what is probably the most Blackish Emmys ever with host Anthony Anderson, a reunion of Martin Lawrence's "Martin," historic wins from many Black actors (and by the way, the show was produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment), the 75th Emmys was quite entertaining, quite diverse, and what a celebration. Quinta Brunson became the first Black actress in 40-plus years to take home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Of course, that's for her show, "Abbott Elementary." The last Black woman, by the way, to win the award was Isabel Sanford in "The Jeffersons" back in 1981. But it was Niecy Nash Betts who stole the show with her acceptance speech after winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. Niecy took a minute to thank the person who's been there since the very beginning, herself. She came back to the press room and explained: "I'm the only one who knows what it cost me. I'm the only one who knows how many nights I cried because I couldn't be seen for a certain type of role. I'm the one who knows what it's like to go through divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out and you still got to go home and you have children and a whole life. And so I'm proud of myself. I'm proud that I did something that people said I could not do because I believed in me and sometimes people don't believe in themselves. And I hope my speech was a delicious invitation for people to do just that: Believe in yourself and congratulate yourself. Sometimes you got to encourage, what? Yourself. And that's why it's not called mama-esteem, them-esteem, us-esteem, it's called self-esteem. Cause don't nobody got to believe it, but you." "Succession," one of my all-time favorite shows, won with six awards each. Of course, the Roy clan of "Succession" and the newfound family of "The Bear" were the Emmy's biggest winners. And what a show! We'll have a lot more from backstage at the Emmys later on this week, so stay tuned, and don't forget to follow us @aurnonline for all of the YouTube videos that we have from award season. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka, Co-Stars “Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guests, Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka, are 2 beloved entertainers who happen to be husband and wife - or as they call themselves, the “icon” and the “leprechaun”. Starting with the “icon” first, she's been dazzling us with great performances for over 6 decades, in classic movies like “Ride the High Country”, “Marnie”, “Marooned”, “Skyjacked”, “1969”, “Improper Channels”, and of course, her many highly acclaimed TV movies including “MADD: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers” and “Silence of the Heart”. On television, she's been in everything from “The Twilight Zone”, “Daniel Boone”, “Bonanza”, “Gunsmoke” and “The Bob Newhart Show”, to “Little House on the Prairie”, “M.A.S.H.”, “Murder She Wrote”, “NCIS”, “Grey's Anatomy”, and dozens more. She created the unforgettable characters of “Dr. Claire Morton” on “Peyton Place”, “Sister Mary Daniel” on “One Life to Live”, “Liz McVey” on “W-I-O-U”, “Lorna Scarry” in “Law and Order: SVU”, “Patricia Clark” in “9-1-1” – and let's not forget that classic episode of “Star Trek”, where our guest, who played “Zarabeth”, fulfilled every woman's dream of having her wicked way with “Mr. Spock”. And for a while in the 80's, she co-hosted NBC's “The Today Show”, and she also co-hosted “The Morning Program” on CBS. And we all loved her wonderful, long-running TV documentary series, “Wild About Animals”. She's been nominated for 5 Emmy Awards and WON an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work in “The Incredible Hulk”. And she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also wrote an incredibly impactful and emotionally powerful book entitled, “Breaking the Silence”, which is one of the most compelling, insightful and inspirational celebrity memoirs I've ever read. And at the risk of making her blush even more, I can't resist mentioning this remarkable woman's extraordinary devotion to community service. She's been the national spokesperson for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which honored her with a Humanitarian Award. She's also worked tirelessly as an advocate for mental health, and with a number of vitally important organizations, including the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, SOJOURN, and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. And get this: she was named Outstanding Mother of the Year by the National Mother's Day Committee in Washington, D.C. It doesn't get much better than that. And now, moving on to her loving husband, the “leprechaun”, he's an actor and producer, well known for his work in the movie “Godspell”, the mini-series “Murder One: Diary of a Serial Killer”, and dozens of TV shows including “Murphy Brown”, “Seinfeld”, “Ally McBeal”, “Star Trek Voyager”, “The Brothers Flub”, “The West Wing”, “Shameless”, “The Comeback Kids” and many, many more. And now, these 2 great talents have joined together in a terrific and very charming movie which they wrote, called “Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story”, in which they play themselves, telling the story of how this initially very unlikely couple met and grew to love each other. The movie, which also features veteran stars Tess Harper, Bernie Kopell, Morgan Fairchild and John Rubenstein, has been conquering film festivals everywhere, and it's won 9 prestigious awards. After seeing this humorous, poignant and heartwarming movie, I just had to invite our guests on our show. Williams Jr., a highly decorated Marine Corps pilot who was killed while on active duty when she was two months old. Her mother, Lee (née McKnight) Williams (1925-2014), remarried, to Dr. Donald I. "Don" Purcell, a U.S. Navy doctor assigned to the Marine Corps. Lee Purcell has a younger sister, Paige Wooldridge. She graduated from Paragould High School in 1965 and briefly attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri as a dance and theatre student until she was expelled. After being expelled[why?] from Stephens College, Purcell[8] arrived in California in 1967 and studied acting. Casting off her southern accent was another goal she successfully worked on. Purcell supported herself by working in commercials[11] and selling clothes at a disco. In 1969, Purcell was personally chosen for her first feature film by Steve McQueen in his company's production of Adam at Six A.M., co-starring Michael Douglas. Asked to explain why he picked Purcell among nearly 500 other available actresses, McQueen said, "It wasn't easy. We kept narrowing down the field over a period of weeks until it came to giving screen tests to six of them. All of them were good, but Lee seemed to jump right out of the screen." Purcell at the 1994 Emmy Awards Her television work included roles as Billie Dove and Olivia de Havilland in two biopic TV movies: The Amazing Howard Hughes (1977) and My Wicked, Wicked Ways: The Legend of Errol Flynn (1985). She was nominated for two Emmy Awards. In 1991, she was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress for Long Road Home and in 1994 as Outstanding Supporting Actress for Secret Sins of the Father. She was co-producer, and starred in the 1998 low-budget cable-TV movie Malaika (alternate title Tons of Trouble). Purcell's film career wound down in 1983 and she has only had five motion picture credits since, the last in 2015. She has continued to do television projects. She also continues to stay active by performing narrations of poetry and fiction in front of live audiences. Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Linda Evans, Multi-Award Winning Actress & Star of “Dynasty” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Linda Evans, is a beloved, multi-award winning actress, author and public speaker who's been dazzling the world with her talent, warmth, grace, spirituality – and yes, her legendary beauty - since she first came into our homes on TV as Barbara Stanwyck's daughter “Audra Barkley” in “The Big Valley”. She's also appeared in a number of classic movies including “The Klansman” with Richard Burton, “Avalanche Express” with Lee Marvin, and “Tom Horn” with Steve McQueen. And yes, that was HER playing “Sugar Kane” in “Beach Blanket Bingo”. She also made 2 “Gambler” movies with Kenny Rogers, and she co-starred in the highly acclaimed TV mini-series “North and South Book 2: Love and War”. But there can be no doubt that our guest has been forever immortalized for her unforgettable portrayal of the glamorous and highly likeable “Krystal Karrington” on the blockbuster TV series, “Dynasty”, for which she received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series, and was nominated 4 more times for Golden Globe Awards, as well as receiving an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She also won 5 People's Choice Awards as Favorite Actress in a Drama Series. In 1987, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And in 1991, she delighted her loyal fans by resuming her role as “Krystle Karrington” in the TV miniseries, “Dynasty: The Reunion”. In 2006, she reunited with her castmates for the TV special, “Dynasty: Catfights and Caviar”. In 2006, she and Joan Collins starred in a fabulous play called “Legends”, which I got to see in Toronto, at the beginning of their 9-month sold-out tour. And then, in 2009, the whole world was rooting for her in the British cooking competition reality show, “Hell's Kitchen”, which she won. And most recently, she can be seen in “Swan Song”, co-starring Jennifer Coolidge. In 2015, she released an entertaining, poignant, spiritually uplifting and delicious memoir entitled, “Recipes for Life: My Memories”. I've described the book as “delicious” because it includes some of our guest's favourite recipes. And let me tell you: if you're a foodie like me, her famous artichoke dip, her crab and lobster cakes with mustard beurre blanc, her baked ham, her potatoes with cheese and garlic, and her lemon soufflé with raspberry sauce are EASILY worth TEN TIMES the price of the book. Evans' first guest-starring role was on a 1960 episode of Bachelor Father. The series starred John Forsythe, with whom she would costar 20 years later on Dynasty.[5] After several guest roles in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet between 1960 and 1962, and guest appearances on television series such as The Lieutenant and Wagon Train, Evans gained her first regular role in 1965 in The Big Valley. Playing Audra Barkley, daughter of Victoria Barkley (played by Barbara Stanwyck. On December 31, 1967, John Derek, Linda's husband at the time, recruited her to operate one of his cameras after he had been commissioned by daredevil Evel Knievel to film his motorcycle jump of the fountains at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Evans captured the iconic images of Knievel's devastating crash as the jump failed.Evans was next cast as Krystle Carrington in Aaron Spelling's opulent new primetime soap opera, Dynasty, which premiered in January 1981.Intended as ABC's answer to the hit CBS series Dallas. Dynasty featured Evans as the former secretary and new wife of millionaire oil tycoon Blake Carrington, portrayed by her former costar John Forsythe. Although initially sluggish in the ratings, audience figures improved after the show was revamped and British actress Joan Collins was brought in to play opposite Evans and Forsythe as Blake's scheming ex-wife, Alexis Carrington. By the 1984–85 season, Dynasty was the number one show on American television, outranking Dallas.Evans won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series for her Dynasty role in 1981, and was subsequently nominated every year from 1982 to 1985. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1983.[16] Evans won a People's Choice Award for Favorite Female Performer in a New TV Program in 1982,[17] and for Favorite Female TV Performer in 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1986. Cicely TysonBefore we begin tonight's show with my guest Dr. Stepheny Finnie, I wanted to acknowledge the passing of the fantastic and always gracious Cicely Tyson.Cicely Tyson was an actress and fashion model. In a career spanning more than seven decades, she became known for her portrayal of strong African-American women. Throughout her career, Tyson refused to play drug addicts, prostitutes, or maids, roles she thought demeaning to Black women. But when a good part came along, she grabbed hold of it with tenacity.Refusing to participate in the blaxploitation movies that became popular in the late '60s, she waited until 1972 to return to the screen in the drama “Sounder,” which captured several Oscar nominations, including one for Tyson as best actress.Tyson made history when she became the first African American to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for 1974's TV film The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. Despite her achievements onstage and in films, much of the actress's best work was done for television. In addition to “Miss Jane Pittman,” she did an outstanding job in “Roots,” “The Wilma Rudolph Story,” “King: The Martin Luther King Story,” “When No One Would Listen,” “A Woman Called Moses.” Recent film appearances include Alex Cross, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and The Help. The legendary actress promoting her long-awaited memoir, “Just As I Am,” when she passed away on Jan. 28, is now a No. 1 bestselling author.Want to be a Guest, Sponsor, or be featured in the magazine? Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman are known by millions as daytime's Josh and Reva, supercouple of the CBS drama Guiding Light. Since GL went off the air for good in 2009 (with Robert and Kim in the very last scenes of the series), the pair moved on to new gigs on stage and TV - some of them together!Except for a couple of breaks, Robert spent 28 years on Guiding Light as Josh; Kim spent 21 years in Springfield and hauled away four Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In this visit to The Richard Piet Show, Robert - who was nominated for two Soap Opera Digest awards and four Daytime Emmys in his role as Josh - talks about the effects of COVID-19 on the industry and what he's doing next (at least a little about it!). He and Kim also speak frankly of their feelings about Guiding Light's cancellation. At its end, GL was the longest running daytime drama on TV - having started on radio in 1937, then moving to TV in 1952.You will also hear them speak fondly of The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan where summer stock audiences have enjoyed them year after - sometimes in the same production. Robert and Kim have traveled the country visiting similar stages and audiences from coast to coast.
