Welcome to episode 274 of the Grow Your Law Firm podcast, hosted by Ken Hardison. In this episode, Ken sits down with Roger R. Foisy, co-founder of Private Footprint®, client social media discovery for plaintiff attorneys. Roger specializes in catastrophic injury and traumatic brain injury cases, advocating fiercely for seriously injured plaintiffs in complex litigation. In 2007, he founded his client-centered law firm to provide personalized, results-driven legal representation. Roger achieved a groundbreaking victory by securing the first-ever catastrophic impairment decision before the Ontario Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT), successfully combining physical impairments under the AMA Guides, Fourth Edition, with mental and behavioral impairments under the AMA Guides, Sixth Edition. His firm has since secured more successful LAT decisions than any other personal injury law firm in Ontario. As a recognized thought leader and speaker, Roger frequently shares his expertise on law firm operations, efficient business practices, and technology integration. Aware of the growing influence of social media evidence—especially after a large settlement offer was lost due to a client's posts—Roger co-founded Private Footprint®. This innovative tool provides plaintiff attorneys with an affordable and effective way to counteract defense tactics that attempt to dismiss cases based on clients' social media activity. What you'll learn about in this episode: 1. Impact of Your Client's Social Media on Their Case: * Importance of Social Media Monitoring * Influence on Client Behavior 2. Proactive Leveraging of Social Media Monitoring : * Utilizing Social Media Evidence for Case Evaluation * Modifying Client Behavior through Monitoring 3. Combat Insurance Company and Defense Tactics: * Impact on Insurance Exposure and Settlement Reserves * Leveraging Pre-Date of Loss Photos and Videos 4. Turning Social Media Posts Into an Asset: * Strategic Use of Social Media in Legal Proceedings * Turning Social Media into a Valuable Asset 5. What a delight welcoming my old friend Harry Castleman, co-author along with Walter J. Podrazik, of “Watching TV: American Television Season by Season, Fourth Edition.” Their book encompasses several eras of American television from the early days of broadcast TV, all the way through cable, and now streaming. Considered the gold standard chronology of American television, it is chock full of fun facts, firsts, insights and exploits. A conversation with Harry is always memorable!
This show is what you get when you take three longtime friends on a Saturday morning and just let them ramble. So many topics... So much fun!
Oneness - 4th Edition, with Rasha A day modern-day spiritual Messenger, Rasha has worked as a courier of Divine guidance for over 35 years. In February 1998, she began am extraordinary dialogue with the universal Presence, “Oneness”─ the Divinity we all share and some refer to as “God.” Word for word, Rasha transcribed a vast body of spiritual understandings that give us a new level of insight into the mystery we call “life.” ONENESS is considered a Spiritual Classic, now it has a whole new look. This gorgeous new Fourth Edition has been totally re-formatted and re-imagined, to make it much more "reader friendly." Now, there's plenty of room for the Divine teachings of Oneness to breathe! So, feel free to lend your other copy to friends. This one's a keeper! About Rasha Author of the spiritual classic, Oneness, Rasha awakened to her inner calling as a Messenger of Divine guidance in 1987. On April 2nd 2004, Pyramid Magazine published an article entitled, “Designer's Notes: GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition” by Sean Punch. Twenty years from that article in 2004, GURPS - the Generic Universal Role-Playing System - is still with us. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not a dead game. GURPS Fourth Edition might be out of fashion but it's truly a standard in the RPG community. Last episode, I spoke of my rediscovery of the spirit of the Third Edition through the pages of Roleplayer. A month on, I have arrived back with the Fourth Edition of GURPS. Having enjoyed a journey into the early 1990s GURPS community, I was also aware that GURPS received an overhaul in 2004. From 18th century London to the promise of a global cure: the 200-year history of Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's, a neurodegenerative disorder most commonly characterized by tremors and other motor symptoms, is so complex, many medical professionals are starting to classify it as a group of diseases, rather than a single disease. In this episode, we explain those complexities, including: • The motor symptoms (e.g. cogwheel rigidity, bradykinesia) and non-motor symptoms (e.g. depression, sleep disorders) • How the industrial revolution may have brought about environmental factors which contribute to Parkinson's • The differences and similarities between Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer's • How Parkinson's manifests in our brains • Why one nurse was able to detect Parkinson's through smell • The neurogenetics of Parkinson's, and the ethical quandaries of evolving genetic technology • Why lifestyle — nutrition, exercise, etc. — is so key to preventing and managing Parkinson's Joining us for this extensive conversation are three incredible guests: • Dr. Rachel Dolhun, Senior Vice President of Medical Communications at The Michael J. What is Fluff? Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. (Ecclesiastes 12:9-10, NIV). Harry Frankfurt in On BS: The BS-er…is neither on the side of the true nor on the side of the false. His eye is not on the facts at all, as the eyes of the honest man and of the liar are, except insofar as they may be pertinent to his interest in getting away with what he says. He does not care whether the things he says describe reality correctly. He just picks them out, or makes them up, to suit his purpose.[1] Fluff is whatever is extraneous, superfluous, or unseemly. Fluff is the opposite of the substantial or the fundamental. Physical fluff is never desired and easily floats away. No one wants it, unless it is in a pillow, perhaps. Some students pad their papers in order to meet word requirements. Such padding is always fluff and may involve going down rabbit trails unrelated to the thesis of the writing. Much fluff today is autobiographical, and there are far too many memoirs.[2] Entire books may be autobiographical fluff, such as the egregious Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller and myriad others.[3] Contemporary writers often cannot resist talking about themselves even when it is irrelevant to the point they should be making. One of the great principles of the classic writing guide, Elements of Style, is to keep yourself in the background. This is what Strunk and White write: Write in a way that draws the reader's attention to the sense and substance of the writing, rather than to the mood and temper of the author. If the writing is solid and good, the mood and temper of the writer will eventually be revealed and not at the expense of the work. Therefore, the first piece of advice is this: to achieve style, begin by affecting none—that is, place yourself in the background.[4] Exhibitionism is one of the great sins and blind spots of our age. Consider Victor Frankl's comments about why he reluctantly decided not to anonymously publish his classic book, Man's Search for Meaning: "I had intended to write this book anonymously, using my prison number only. But when the manuscript was completed, I saw that as an anonymous publication, it would lose half its value and that I must have the courage to state my convictions openly. I therefore refrained from deleting any of the passages, in spite of an intense dislike of exhibitionism."[5] Fluff may also be unseemly, which may or may not include gratuitous personal references. The unseemly is what is inappropriate—the lude, crude, or rude. What Paul applies to speech should be applied to writing. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (Ephesians 4:29). To tighten it up: Fluff is what is unnecessary in a piece of writing, either due to BS, redundancy, exhibitionism, or literary boorishness. Fluff can be avoided by removing unnecessary content, by keeping yourself in the background, and by being polite. To avoid fluff, ask yourself these questions: Am I aiming at objective truth? Have I written more than is needed? Have I said too much about myself? Have I been off-putting or offensive to my reader? [1] Frankfurt, Harry G. On Bullshit (p. 56). Princeton University Press. Kindle Edition. [2] I wrote a memoir, which I attempted to justify in the first chapter. Douglas Groothuis, “Introduction,” Walking Through Twilight: A Wife's Illness—A Philosopher's Lament (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity, 2017). [3] Donald Miller, Blue Like Jazz (New York: Harper Horizon, 2003). The first paragraph of page 103 is the most absurd and egregious collection of falsehoods I have encountered. Behaviour change theory and Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles are often an area cited by healthcare professionals as something they would like more training on. The BJSM has collaborated with the PACC programme to develop this podcast and has invited Dr Tim Anstiss, an expert in this area, to explain some key behaviour change theory and motivational interviewing concepts in this conversation. I first met Rob through his podcast, the Unstuck Movement. As I tend to do when being interviewed by podcasters I asked if he would be willing to come on Unstoppable Mindset to talk about his life, his podcast and the lessons he might wish to impart. Boy did I feel like I was a winner as we talked. As Rob tells us, he felt somewhat out of place as he was growing up. He couldn't decide for some time what he wanted to do with his life. As he will tell you, he was stuck and unwilling to explore change to improve himself and his circumstances. Eventually, he did come to realize that he needed to change, and change he did as you will hear. I love having discussions with people like Rob because in some ways you never know where discussions may lead. For example, Rob credits good teachers and coaches with his progress at living life. His discussions lead to a pretty deep conversation between us about teaching, teachers and how in fact we all are teachers whether employed in the profession or not. Rob's life journey is typical of someone who had to find his way in the world, but when he did, he ran with his discoveries. There are lots of life-lessons Rob offers us and I am sure you will find some good concepts in my conversation with Rob. About the Guest: Rob Z Wentz is an Executive Leadership Coach.

It's cold. You've had a long day as an industrial water treatment professional battling scale, corrosion, unwanted microbiological activity, and inefficiencies. You're tired. You just want to go home, kick your feet up, relax, and get warm. You forget to take your test kit out of the car. You wake up in the morning, drive to the next industrial water system, open up your test kit, and it is FROZEN SOLID! What do you do? Do you run around in circles? Do you sit the test kit as closely to a boiler as you dare to thaw it out? Do you dunk it in hot water? The first thing you should do is learn your lesson and never let your test kit freeze again. Ever. I'll admit, I learned this lesson the hard way. Next, I consulted with a trusty test-kit manufacturing expert, and his suggestion was to allow it to thaw at room temperature. He said do NOT artificially heat it, even in hot water. Most reagents are likely to recover. To be safe, you should compare your test results to new reagents or another rep's results. Personally, I found my iodide/iodate titration solution used in the sulfite test was never the same after it froze and gave me low readings. You could also just replace all your reagents, but I understand that could get expensive. Another thing to consider when a test kit freezes is the impact upon testing equipment such as the pH probe, which may have cracked or broken as its internal solution froze and expanded. Plus, plunging a cold pH probe into a warm solution may induce cracking as well. 2024 Events for Water Professionals Check out our Scaling UP! There's always been a feel-good, easy-times nostalgia for the 80s and 90s TV shows. More so now that we sometimes feel overwhelmed by the plethora of shows we have to pick from. If you feel me then you will enjoy this conversation. Our guest today is the award-winning screen and television writer, professor, and best-selling author, Pamela Douglas. Pamela is a member of the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America and a USC School of Cinematics Arts tenure professor for screenwriting. She is credited for her writing on shows/series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Ghostwriter (1992) to name a few.Aside from her awesome career as a screenwriter, she's an international writer with multi-lingual adaptations of her books (German, Mandarin, Italian, French, Korean, and Spanish). Pamela packed her expertise in her 2018 revised fourth edition of her 2008 book 'Writing the TV Drama Series: How to Succeed as a Professional Writer in TV'.The book is a complete resource for anyone who wants to write and produce for television drama series or create an original series, as well as for teachers in screenwriting classes and workshops. It leads the reader step-by-step through every stage of the development and writing process, offering practical industry information and artistic inspiration. The Fourth Edition leads readers into the future and engages provocative issues about the interface between traditional TV and emerging technologies. It's also the single most comprehensive source on what is happening in original television drama around the world, with surveys of 15 countries. As you will learn in this episode, Pamela's passion for writing goes back to her childhood. Even though she's dabbed in screenwriting for movies, she's discovered throughout her career that television carries a bigger pull in terms of communicating ideas, stories, characters, life, and experience. Its essence allows for vertical story-telling, expansion, and continuity to reveal newer plots and characters.Star Trek: The Next Generation is a classic sci-fi series set almost 100 years after Captain Kirk's five-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers set off in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on its own mission to go where no one has gone before - the exploration of the Milky Way galaxy.Ghostwriter is an American children's mystery television series that revolves around a circle of friends from Brooklyn who solve neighborhood crimes and mysteries as a team of young detectives with the help of a ghost named Ghostwriter who can only communicate through writing and words.Chatting with a seasoned screenwriter like Pamela, there is so much wealth of knowledge packed in every word. We talked about presentation reelers, the forex structure and her approach to it, and why she thinks The Wire is the best show of all time in terms of character, layering, and sterilized storytelling.Enjoy this conversation with Pamela Douglas. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2664729/advertisement
Lydia, "Dia," Abrams marries wealthy La Jolla, California, real estate developer. Clem Abrams. They have two children. After more than 30 years of marriage, Clem Abrams passes away after a long illness and Dia steps up to run the 116 acre family ranch. After years as a widow, Abrams meets Keith Harper on a dating website. According to the Mercury News, Harper is a retired parole agent for the Utah Department of Corrections. The two hit it off and six months later, Harper moves in with Dia at the ranch and becomes the ranch manager. According to Harper, he works to upgrade the Abrams' property: building dams, bridges, fences and helping care for Abrams' animals. Harper also claims to be Abrams' fiance. Keith Harper is also named as trustee of Abrams' estate, and her beneficiary in the event of her death. On June 6, 2020, Dia Abrams is seen at her ranch in Mountain Center, California. Then she is captured on doorbell-cam footage delivering cinnamon rolls to a neighbor undergoing cancer treatment. According to Keith Harper, he and Dia have lunch around 2:30 pm before he leaves to work around the property. Abrams reportedly goes to tend to her horses at another property she owns in Garner Valley. Harper says he mows for five hours before returning to the house around 7:30 p.m. Abrams' Ford F-350 pickup is parked outside, but Harper cannot find her. Harper says he calls her phone and hears it ringing upstairs. It is plugged into a charger next to a nightstand. Abrams' purse and keys are also there. A search begins. Dozens of locals scoured the ranch and surrounding mountain area on foot, horseback and all-terrain vehicles. Harper is seen riding an ATV around the property. When Riverside County sheriff deputies begin a days-long search, Harper packs up his RV and takes off for Arizona. He says he needs to take care of a tax issue at a property he owns there. In RO, you have one influent stream coming in, a product water stream that's very low in minerals, a high concentration stream that's low volume but very high concentration of dissolved solids, and it's a pressure-driven process. You use pressure to force the water through the membrane and the membrane retains the minerals and dissolved solids.” -Jane Kucera “There are six things that affect membrane performance: fouling, scaling, membrane degradation, temperature, pressure, and concentration.” -Jane Kucera Jane Kucera's advice for success: “Be proactive. Link to the full show notes here. “Acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation—some fact of my life—unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes.” The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, Fourth Edition, Page 417

GBA Audio Education Series – Effective Reporting Summary: Tiffany Vorhies and Ryan White recently uncovered a treasure trove of valuable content, GBA's outstanding audio-education series. In order to make this more accessible, they turned these into a podcast series. This series was originally available as downloadable audio files, designed for one-on-one listening by field representatives, or as material to spur discussion during brownbag seminars or other informal training sessions. Like other GBA audio education programs, Fundamentals of Field Representation uses dramatization to make its points. The roles are played by professional actors, supplemented by sound effects. In each episode, Tiffany and Ryan play the original audio and follow up with a discussion, including their own personal lessons learned from many years of experience in the industry as both field reps and technical leaders. Arguably one of the best parts of any Dungeon Master's prep in Dungeons and Dragons is the design, creation, and fleshing out of a great and thrilling adventure. This can be a struggle for some DMs, while for others it's as natural as breathing. Well, I'm not gifted in this respect, so I rely on guides and tools to ensure I put together fun and engaging stories for my players. For this, I scour the books I've collected over my 20+ years of D&D. During this search I uncovered a solid bit of advice from one of the most hated versions of the game, Fourth Edition. Join us live as we go into detail on each of these points further on our Youtube Channel.

Sue Becker continues her two-part series on The Facts About Fats. In this episode, she talks about the amazing role of essential fatty acids in the body. There are a number of fatty acids found in foods containing oil, but there are only 3 that are considered essential. These 3 fatty acids cannot be made by our bodies, so we must get them from the foods we eat. Sue goes into detail about how these fatty acids are not only essential to proper function of cells, but that we could not exist without them in our bodies.
