Welcome back to the void, friends and fiends! Tonight we dig into the final hours of our investigation of the USS North Carolina! Things kicked off pretty fast and hard after our midway point of the adventure. As we stated on the last episode, once we returned to the ship after our break, things got rather rowdy and active. This episode may seem a little short, and you're right about that! We trimmed things down to compact it into an easily digestible nugget of information. However, if you are a Patreon Subscriber, you will get access to all the extended interviews over the next month which will culminate in over 2 hours of extra material, and that's not even including the Patreon-Only Special Content! Join Flood, Sonnie, Walker and Megan as we share our different perspectives of the oddities of the evening. When we left off last time, we hinted that things really kicked off after we returned to the ship following our break.  ALL THINGS EX V PLANIS: https://linktr.ee/Exvplanis  ALL THINGS FOLDS & FLOODS https://linktr.ee/foldsandfloods  ALL THINGS USS NORTH CAROLINA https://www.battleshipnc.com/  ALL THINGS LEFTOVER STARDUST https://www.leftoverstardust.com/ Â
We talk about our adventures at cryptid con and finally get into the ghost hunt we had on board the USS North Carolina.
Join Flood and EvP team members Sonnie, Walker & Meg as we discuss the first half of our investigation of the Battleship USS North Carolina. The Battleship has been known to be an active haunting spot for several years now, and we agree with that assessment 100%. But unlike many of the other locations we've visited over the last year, this location showed us a whole other kind of activity that was, in part, eager to interact, yet also ready to run at any moment.  USS NORTH CAROLINA HOMEPAGE: https://www.battleshipnc.com/  ALL THINGS EX V PLANIS https://linktr.ee/Exvplanis  ALL THINGS FOLDS AND FLOODS https://linktr.ee/foldsandfloods  LEFTOVER STARDUST https://www.leftoverstardust.com/ https://www.instagram.com/weareleftoverstardust/
First and foremost, HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!  Tonight we walk through the history before the mystery!  Join Flood and Walker with special guest Halsey Hoosier for a deep dive into the history of the USS North Carolina. Truly a game changer during World War II, the USS NC had a colorful history from the moment its keel was laid all the way up to now, where it serves as a memorial for WWII veterans, as well as a delightful spot to go ghost hunting! We are leaving the paranormal out of this episode to focus solely on the history, and to help give you some background on the location we investigated, as is tradition.  Please consider donating to the USS NC Memorial, or if you're in the area, go see it for yourself!  Special thanks to Halsey Hoosier for taking the time to walk us through this amazing ships past, present, and future.  USS NORTH CAROLINA HOMEPAGE: https://www.battleshipnc.com/  ALL THINGS EX V PLANIS https://linktr.ee/Exvplanis  ALL THINGS FOLDS AND FLOODS https://linktr.ee/foldsandfloods Â

Wilmington, North Carolina is home to the USS North Carolina, a retired World War II battleship that is open as a museum that draws over a quarter of a million visitors each year and serves as a memorial to the North Carolinians who died in the war. But now this special piece of American history faces an unlikely challenge - water. That's because blue sky flooding, made increasingly frequent by sea level rise, is impacting visitor access to the battleship. The path forward is a Living With Water approach that will convert flooded parking lots into wetland, capture stormwater from the remaining parking area, and restore a natural shoreline. The Battleship North Carolina project is discussed by Captain Terry Bragg, Executive Director of the Battleship North Carolina; Dawn York, Senior Coastal Scientist at Moffatt and Nichol; Jenny Davis, Research Ecologist at NOAA National Ocean Service; and Rami Diaz, Senior Project Designer at Waggonner & Ball.waterloop is a nonprofit media outlet, made possible in part by a grant from Spring Point Partners. The USS North Carolina was a battleship commissioned in 1941 that participated in every major naval battle in the Pacific during World War II. During that time, the battleship had several men die on board and was struck by a Japanese torpedo. The battleship earned 15 battle stars for its efforts. The battleship is today a floating museum that hosts both historical tours and ghost tours. We had the privilege of doing an overnight investigation with not only six of our listeners, but also three of the Ghost Hunters from the newer Ghost Hunters Series. On this episode, we share the history and the results of our investigation of the USS North Carolina! This weeks episode of the Warships Podcast is an epic one as the show welcomes back Aerroon to do a Ranked Season preview, and get his thoughts on the various changes and different aspects of the game since his last visit. Kelorn and Aerron starts the show off reflecting on their trip to St Petersburg to visit the World of Warships main development studio. Sharing experiences and funny stories, we get a good look into the great time they had with everyone and the great success Wargaming had in doing this Community Contributor Summit. Venturing into the heart of the main show's theme. The cast and crew discusses the next Ranked Season to come. This upcoming season will feature many changes including the introduction of Tier 10 category ships as the main focus from battle ranks 10 to 1. The crew begins discussing each category and starts with Carriers. Unlike recent Clan Battles rule sets, this season of Ranked will indeed have Tier 10 Carrier options. Many changes are coming to the top tier carriers USS Midway and HIJMS Hakuryu, and the podcast reflects on what the changes will bring to the meta. Continuing right along the podcast gets into the next category, destroyers and the ever ominous present of radar that Tier 10 ships can bring. Discussion on game play and meta is hashed out in depth with focus on radar and counter radar tactics. Further talk on what destroyers will be viable in this meta as well as speculation on future ships that may or may not be available soon. All the destroyers are discussed and debated and tactics are hashed out giving the looming presence of effective radar. The crew also bring up the Tier 8 category of play that is required before reaching Rank 10 and what ships would be viable in this meta. Bridging from the Destroyer discussion and the topic of radar, the cast and crew cover the Cruiser category. Which the podcast believes might be one of the more effective category types over previous Ranked Season rule sets due to the utility and power of many Tier 10 Cruisers. Reflection on how effective Cruisers are in Clan Battles is discussed and correlated to the possible meta for this coming Ranked Season. Key cruisers of note in this debate are; USS Des Moines, KMS Hindenburg, HIJMS Zao, VMF Moskva, and HMS Minotaur. Speculation is also briefed, bringing up the upcoming USN Cruiser split and what radar focused USS Worchester might be like in this Ranked setting. Radar Minotaur is also a topic of jokes and serious discussion. The crew finishes this category with a quick run down of the Tier 8 category of cruisers. Cruisers of note are; HIJMS Atago, VMF Kutuzov, and KMS Hipper and KMS Prinz Eugen. From Cruisers to Battleships the podcast crew gets into the heavy metal. Battleships, a popular category among many players, and the cast and crew go through the ins and outs of the many options for this category. Discussing the effectiveness and principles of overmatch for armor and the giving ranges of some engagements. Speculation is had as to what maps will be present and how those maps will handle objective wise and game play wise verse the other category of ships. The classic HIJMS Yamato vs USS Montana debate is continued as well as the new entrant, Republique which has been popular as of late even showing an uptick in use in Clan Battles. KMS GroĂźer KurfĂĽrst and the secondary build is debated and the crew explains why this ship might have issues in the possible meta for this Ranked Season. The topic of battleship AP rounds vs destroyers is brought up and discussed in relation to the popular destroyers that might be seen in the meta. Rounding out the battleship discussion, the podcast team brings up the Tier 8 options. Which are most notably HIJMS Amagi and USS North Carolina, and KMS Tirpitz. Richelieu?!? Whats that??? Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career
Bob was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1926 and graduated from The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee in 1944. At age 17, Bob volunteered for the US Navy and was training to go into submarines when he was accepted into the US Naval Academy at the war’s end. As a midshipman he served on various warships, including a heavy cruiser, destroyer, carrier, and the battleship USS North Carolina in which his GQ station was the 16 inch gun turret. Bob graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1949. He took his commission in the Air Force where he could go immediately to flight school. He went on to fly the Republic F-84 ThunderJet in combat against MIGS in Korea and was then selected after the war for the elite Air Force Research and Development team where he flew virtually every aircraft in the USAF inventory including “expanding the envelope” in the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. As a Lockhead F-104 instructor pilot, Bob taught some of the world’s leading pilots how to fly the Starfighter. Some of his students included WW2 Luftwaffe fighter aces Gunther Rall, and Johannes Steinhoff as well as Canada’s Wing Commander Kenneth Lett and USAF General John Dunning. Remarkably, Bob has made 5 successful “dead stick” landings in the F-104 – an amazing accomplishment given that the F-104 glides like a “toolbox” and is extremely unforgiving of pilot errors. Bob was also involved with fellow Lockheed test pilot Darryl Greenamyer in breaking the FAI world restricted altitude speed record of 988.26 mph in a highly modified F-104 on October 24, 1978. Bob Gilliland has logged more test flight hours at Mach 3 than any other pilot in the world. He has been recognized and honored for his work many times. In the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, he is honored for making one of the greatest contributions to aviation in his time as a test pilot/astronaut joining the 7 Mercury astronauts, Charles Lindberg and Howard Hughes in the same honor. Bob is a fellow in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and a recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Flight Test Historical Foundation for his distinguished aviation career. Bob was awarded the prestigious Ivan C. Kincheloe Award in 1964 for his work on the Blackbird program. He was named an Eagle by the Air Force Flight Test Historical Foundation in 1998 and received the Godfrey L. Cabot Award in 2001. Among his many honors, the one which he seems to have enjoyed the most, was the “Legends of Aerospace Tour” to Europe and the Middle East in March of 2010. As one of America’s five Legends, along with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan, Jim Lovell, and Vietnam fighter ace Steve Ritchie, the Tour stopped at many “down range” US military bases and hospitals. Former Good Morning America host David Hartman served as the moderator for the Tour. The Legends spoke daily to thousands of our servicemen defending our interests abroad, reminding Bob, he said with a smile, of how much he had enjoyed seeing Bob Hope and Betty Grable visit his airbase when he was flying combat in Korea.
