Podnajemnica, Fen in nekatere druge zgodbe segajo v težko otroštvo pripovedovalk in puščajo trajne posledice, duševne motnje vse življenje. Vse zgodbe pripovedujejo ženske v prvoosebnih notranjih monologih, nekaj pa je tudi psihološko zelo prepričljivih tretjeosebnih opisov. Več zgodb zaznamujejo medosebni odnosi, čustvena razmerja in osebna stališča do drugih. Matere so prizanesljive in pretirano skrbne do svojih otrok, a odzivi na to niso vedno pričakovani. Zaključek zgodbe Pege razkrije usodne dogodke, ki so povsem spremenili življenje pomembne uradnice. V firmi, kjer se ji je trideset let dobro godilo, jo preseneti novi lastnik, predstavnik multinacionalke, ki ugotovi, da njeno delovno mesto ni potrebno, in jo odpusti. Sama sebi in drugim noče priznati resnice, vendar se zatakne pri kreditu, ki ga je najela za nakup hčerinega stanovanje. Še vedno vzdržuje videz ugledne gospe, čeprav postane čistilka pri stari ženski in trikrat na teden pomaga dementni Vidi. No, lahko bi rekla: gospa, vaša dvojčka sta nagravžno scrkljana, gospa, vaša Mila se joče za vsak drek, gospod, vaša Katarinca je samo suhe makarone … gospa, vaš Aleksej ima gnile že vse zobe v ustih, ali niste vi zelo priznana psihologinja po poklicu – aha, mogoče ga nočete trpinčiti z umivanjem …« O svojih vrednotah razmišlja najstnica, ki je pravkar opravila maturo. Vsa zadovoljna sama s seboj in svojo popolnostjo v primerjavi z debelo sošolko, ki ima dva popravca, kuje načrte, kako bosta s fantom, ki je otrok narave, star dvaintrideset let in jo uči meditacije, odpotovala v Indijo. »Denar za pot in za prvo leto bom nekako vzela fotru in matki, ker sta že davno pozabila na vrednote in ju zanima samo še keš, zato bo to navsezadnje bolje zanju … Dareta ne zanima denar, ker živi za naravo in duhovne cilje. Majke mi. Grem kao študirat v tujino.« V kratkih in zelo kratkih zgodbah pisateljica dokazuje, da je dobra opazovalka vsakdanjih in nekoliko drugačnih ljudi. Zunanjih dogodkov skoraj ni, vse dogajanje se razrašča v razmišljanje: prava resnica se razkrije na koncu. Zgodba Udejanjanje dobrote je življenjsko vodilo mamice, ki nadvse ljubi svoji hčerkici, prijazna je tudi do vseh drugih ljudi, vsem znancem je kar naprej delala usluge, pekla peciva za nepomembne obiske, plačevala tortice, kavice, vstopnice prijateljicam in njihovim otrokom, podarjala bogata, izbrana darila za praznike in rojstne dneve; odzivi obdarovanih pa niso pričakovani. Spoznala je, da zaradi dobrote in pozornosti do drugih njeno življenje kljub vsemu trudu ali ravno zato ni postalo nič lepše, ampak ravno nasprotno. Presunljiva je satirična zgodba Nevidna ženska. Skupina ljudi kramlja o ženski, ki so jo bežno poznali. Pripombe so bolj opravljanje kot spomini. In vendar je bila ta ženska žrtev zločina, umetnica, kiparka, kar znanci omalovažujejo. »Samo lepo, da smo prišli na pogreb, smo le bili njeni sošolci. Če ne bi bilo nas, bi bilo bolj žalostno. Pa že dolgo se nismo videli. Moramo ponoviti.« Spremno besedo h knjigi je napisal Tomo Podstenšek, mojster kratkih zgodb: »Avtorica dokazuje, da suvereno obvlada različne jezikovne lege, ki jih ustrezno prilagaja starosti in lastnostim pripovedovalk, slog je zgoščen, veliko je namigov, ki širijo pahljačo možnosti interpretacij,« piše.

Občutek, da je mama, ki zelo očitno ni kos svojim materinskim obveznostim in si raje kot redno službo išče tako imenovane priložnostne sponzorje, noče, je tako globoko ukoreninjen v Lianini podzavesti, da potrditev išče drugje, predvsem na svetovnem spletu. Njena potreba po občudovanju izvira iz otroške travme, ki se je sama le delno zaveda, zato vsak všeček, ki ga dobi za svoje žgečkljive fotografije, ne poboža le njenega ega, temveč v njem vidi predvsem priložnost za korak k samouresničitvi. Socialnih omrežij ne uporablja tako kot bogate vplivnice z zlato žlico v ustih – kot le še eno poslovno priložnost – temveč kot edino priložnost. Praslovan ni le naslov ene najbolj znanih skladb Zorana Predina, temveč je tudi naslov novega dokumentarnega filma režiserja Slobodana Maksimovića o ustvarjalni in življenjski poti glasbenika, ki se je pri svojem delu vztrajno opiral na uporniški potencial umetnosti. Film s številnimi posnetki koncertov, dogodkov in drugega gradiva prikaže lok razvoja glasbe Zorana Predina v zadnjih več kot štirih desetletjih – ob njegovi karieri pa tudi spremembe v družbeno-političnem ozračju našega prostora in nekdanje skupne države Jugoslavije. Predinovo ustvarjalno pot prikaže kronološko – od njegovih začetkov ukvarjanja z glasbo v Mariboru do obdobja z novovalovsko skupino Lačni Franz, s katero je pustil pečat na širši jugoslovanski rokovski glasbeni sceni. Film se potem posveti poznejšim Predinovim obdobjem, v katerih je raziskoval različne glasbene zvrsti in sodeloval z glasbeniki, kot je na primer Arsen Dedić. Mit ihrem Wahlprogramm enttäuscht die SPD nicht, das hebt sie sich wahrscheinlich für später auf. Die Schuldenregel soll deutlich reformiert werden, um mehr Spielräume für Investitionen zu schaffen. Auch sollen sich die Bundesländer verschulden dürfen, was bislang nicht vorgesehen war. Zudem ist ein Deutschlandfonds in Höhe von 100 Milliarden Euro geplant. Steuerpolitisch setzt die SPD auf eine Umverteilung, von der die unteren 95 oder gar 99 Prozent profitieren würden. Dafür aber sollen Vermögens- und Erbschaftsteuern kommen, um beispielsweise die Bildung zu finanzieren und auszubauen. Mutig und beinahe radikal ist die Forderung, Kapitalerträge nicht mehr länger mit der Abgeltungssteuer von 25 Prozent, sondern nach dem Einkommenssteuertarif zu besteuern. Es ist aber auch ein sozialdemokratisches Programm, das sich in vielen Bereichen zu wenig traut: So bleiben die Versprechen für Studenten und Azubis klein und nebulös, auch staatliches Bauen wird es mit den Sozialdemokraten nicht geben. Marquita was born in Washington, D.C. to a family from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Although hardworking Marquita studied criminal law and considered becoming a judge advocate general in the military, she found her true calling in the mental health field. As a teenager, Marquita had to face a hurdle that changed her life. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and believed that her life would be a short one. Luckily for us, Marquita beat cancer and looked forward to life as an adult! She married, had children, and bought a house... and then the cancer returned. Again, Marquita feared that her life was never meant to be a long one, and that she would never have the opportunity to accomplish her goals. Her cancer treatments left scars both physical and emotional. Once again, Marquita beat cancer, and then she knew that she is here for a reason, and that her life has purpose. "I learned from both of those moments that life is not over for me," Marquita says. "My story is not ending." Her motto, Veni, Vidi, Vici, from Julius Caesar, means, "I came, I saw, I conquered." There are many different ways to look at culture, and today we take a geographic approach, to distinguish people who live in rural mountain and hilly settings from those of the wider plains and urban areas.   Our focus is the country of Romania, where we'll explore the rustic landscape of small farms, hand tilled fields, and local communities that still identify with the working methods and traditions of the past. Along the way, we'll follow the cyclical work of farmers and shepherds, gain insight into the Orthodox faith, explore vibrant holiday celebrations, and reveal unique rituals with pagan roots.   In this fourth installment of our monthly series, Picturing World Cultures, we speak with Daniel Rosca, a Romanian photographer and travel guide specialized in photographic, cultural, and genealogical tours. As a child, Daniel experienced the age-old traditions of rural Romania first-hand during time spent on his grandparent's farm. Following university studies, he spent four years abroad, working in youth development, consulting, and corporate social responsibility. After living in Brussels, Warsaw, Istanbul, and Cairo, and travelling to another 40 countries on four continents, Daniel decided travel should become his full-time job. He chose to return to his homeland in 2011, where he founded Romania Photo Tours and True Romania Tours, to help curious travelers immerse themselves in—and capture images of—old-world Romanian culture.
