This week had the pleasure of speaking with Vladimir Roman, a dental lab owner based in Florida, who shared his unique journey into the dental industry. Vladimir's story is not just about his career; it's a testament to embracing change and innovation in a field that is constantly evolving. Vladimir began his journey in the military, where he discovered the existence of dental labs while pursuing a career in the Air Force. Initially focused on aviation, he found himself drawn to the dental field, ultimately leading to a fulfilling career in dental technology. His experience in the military provided him with a robust training foundation that he has built upon throughout his career. One of the key themes of the conversation was the importance of collaboration between dental technicians and dentists. Vladimir emphasized that effective communication and teamwork are essential for achieving the best outcomes for patients. This collaborative spirit is what drives him and his team at Romanax Dental Lab (https://www.romanax.com/) to provide high-quality surgical guides and dental solutions. Vladimir shared insights on the evolution of digital workflows and the role of 3D printing in modern dental practices. He highlighted how technology has transformed the way dental labs operate, making processes more efficient and allowing for greater precision in patient care. The use of virtual assistants in his lab has further streamlined operations, enabling technicians to focus on their core tasks while ensuring that administrative duties are handled effectively. Vladimir's passion for education and mentorship shines through as he discusses the training programs he offers for both dental technicians and dentists. He believes that knowledge sharing is crucial for the growth of the industry, and he is committed to helping others learn about surgical guides and implant planning. This week Seth and Bill take a look at an oft-forgotten, but strategically important, episode of the Pacific War. In July 1945, Admiral William F. Halsey took his mighty 3rd Fleet to the very shores of Japan. Sending his carriers into the harbors and towns to wreak havoc, Halsey then detached his surface forces, specifically his battleships, to shell steel mills and infrastructure facilities along the eastern coast of Honshu. Over the final weeks of the war, battleships like USS South Dakota, USS Massachusetts, USS Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and others, pounded Japanese infrastructure with impunity. The shellings at Kamaishi, Muroran, Hitachi, and other locales devastated Japanese economy and inflicted abject terror into the civilian populace. Tune in to see what the guys have to say about this little known parade of destruction laid on the Japanese towards the end of the war. #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #essex #halsey #taskforce38 #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #hollywood #movie #movies #books #mastersoftheair #8thairforce #mightyeighth #100thbombgroup #bloodyhundredth #b17 #boeing #airforce wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #usnavy #usa #usarmy #medalofhonor #enterprise #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #cv6 #midway #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2 #worldwar2 #usnavy #usnavyseals #usmc #usmarines #saipan #usa #usarmy #aircraft #aircraftcarrier #battleship #battleships #ussenterprise #aircraftcarriers #museum #hollywood #movie #movies #books #oldbreed #1stMarineDivision #thepacific #Peleliu #army #marines #marinecorps #worldwar2 #worldwar #worldwarii #leytegulf #battleofleytegulf #rodserling #twilightzone #liberation #blacksheep #power #prisoner #prisonerofwar #typhoon #hurricane #weather #iwojima#bullhalsey #ace #p47 #p38 #fighter #fighterpilot #b29 #strategicstudying #tokyo #boeing #incendiary #usa #franklin #okinawa #yamato #kamikaze #Q&A #questions #questionsandanswers

Surprise Surprise Prof Chris is taking us back to the Pacific Theater of World War 2. This week were discussing the IJN, the Imperial Japanese Navy from its formation to it's warm up wars against China, Russia, and then China yet again to it's role in pulling the United States into WW2 at Pearl Harbor. We cover how WW1 shaped what Naval Warfare would become in WW2 and why Japan was so dominant in the early years of the conflict. How they were able to construct the world's largest Battleships and Aircraft carriers in secret. How they revolutionized Naval Warfare and ushered in the era dominated by naval air power. And how their reach ended up exceeding their grasp as the war ground on leading to their defeat. Tune as we get High on the High Seas.

Pastor Van's sermon "Sinking Battleships" in "The Way of Wisdom" series stresses the importance of not relying on our own wisdom but trusting in God's guidance. He discusses the folly of being wise in our own eyes, using personal anecdotes and biblical references to illustrate the contrast between following God's ways and our own desires. Emphasizing the benefits of seeking God's wisdom through prayer, Pastor Van urges the congregation to surrender to God, listen to His guidance, and avoid the pitfalls of being wise in our own eyes. The sermon ends with a call to obedience and trust in God's ways for health and vitality.

Following the First World War, conflict between the United States and Japan was considered an inevitability. In an effort to protect vast expanses of US shoreline on two coasts, the Navy needed craft that could conduct surveillance and cover a lot of ground. Borrowing from German technology and the zeppelin, the Navy turned to the airship. In Far Away Places: Vice Admiral Charles Emery Rosendahl and the Navy's Airship Program, Dr. M. Ernest Marshall documents the history of a time that saw great advances in aviation, but also the internal issues within the Navy Department. Using the unpublished, detailed memoir of Vice Admiral Rosendahl as a guide, Marshall brings this part of American history into focus. M. Ernest Marshall is an award-winning author and historian whose research examines the US Navy during the World Wars and the inter-war period. His book, Herbert V. Wiley, USN: A Career in Airships and Battleships has won the Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison Award for naval literature. He is also the author of That Night at Surigao: Life on a Battleship at War.

On December 7, 1941, the bombs rained down on the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor. Of the eight Battleships present that day, seven were put out of action. Two of those, Oklahoma, and Arizona, permanently. The other six Battleships were essentially obsolete. In fact, the very reason that the Battleships were in Pearl Harbor that day was because they were useless to accomplish the task the Navy needed done that week. But they were still fully manned and fully operational when Japan attacked. That said… the Navy saw value in the old ships, and decided to raise, repair and refit them to the standards of modern Battleships. In those roles, these six ships would serve through the rest of the Pacific War. One of them, the USS Nevada, found herself pounding the German defenses on D-Day and throughout the Normandy campaign. When General MacArthur landed with his troops in the Philippine Islands on October 20, 1944, the Imperial Japanese Navy had no choice but to respond. Virtually the entire fleet sailed to the Philippines to face off with the US Navy in a do or die struggle. Over the course of the next five days, four major naval engagements would take place. While the most famous of these battles involved the US Navy's TAFFY 3 and its incredible stand, it was to the south that the Japanese were attempting to make that fight even more lopsided. But the Southern Force of the Japanese Fleet was headed straight into the teeth of Read Admiral Jesse Oldendorf's battle line of six US battleships. Five of those battleships were raised from the mud and muck of Pearl Harbor. And on this night, led by USS West Virginia, … they would have their revenge… --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/plausibly-live/message

Life often feels like a game of Battleship - we strategize, fight, and endure stress. However, as Christians, we have the assurance that we are not fighting these battles alone. Today, let's explore how our faith provides us with the strength and support we need to overcome the challenges of life.
Topic 1: Temporary Foreign Worker ExploitationJamaican Migrant Farm Workers in Ontario have long been decrying the poor working and living conditions they face as part of the longstanding Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SWAP). A recent one day protest by workers on a farm in Norfolk County resulted in 6 being sent home to Jamaica early. We look at the whole Temporary Foreign Worker Program, its impact on workers and the movement fighting to secure the rights of migrant workers in Canada. Topic 2: Billions for Billionaires and BattleshipsThe Irvings, already the second richest family in Canada secured the largest single purchase in the Canadian governments history, the CSC Project. If that wasn't enough, the Liberals just handed them an additional $463 million to 'modernize' the facility tasked with building the warships Canadians will pay almost $400 billion for in the end. The money for war is always there, rarely questioned. What is the political reasoning behind this? And what is at the root of these bailouts for billionaires?Topic 3: Our Leaders are All LandlordsWith the recent disclosure that the wife of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh purchased an investment property and became a landlord during a housing crisis, 4 of the 5 federal Party leaders are now landlords. Today, April 11, is the anniversary of the founding of the US Navy's Submarine Fleet! for one hundred and twenty-three years, US Navy Submariners have carried on the traditions and training of the worlds finest underwater warriors. When the Battleships were stuck in the mud of Pearl Harbor, the Submarines carried the attack to the Empire of Japan. when Missiles piled up on Cuba, US Submarines made it clear to the Soviets, “You Shall not pass!” It's not well known, but the first shots taken at Saddam – both times – were launched from US Navy Submarines. For all the glory and all the accomplishments, there is still, great pain. Yesterday, April 10, 1963, The countries newest and most technologically advance nuclear submarine, vanished will all hands off the coast of New England. One hundred and twenty nine souls went to the depths that day, and now, sixty years later, we still do not know what actually happened. Believe me, there are theories galore. But the only thing we know for absolute 100% certainty, is that we have no idea what happened. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/plausibly-live/message

The actual size of starships in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is debatable; however, it is worth noting that the upper size of an Imperial Escort mentioned is 30 kilometers from the Black Library story "Wolf Pack" by Gordon Rennie, though the HDMS Lord Solar Macharius is noted to be just 3 kilometres long. The general consensus is that in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Imperial Escort vessels are anywhere between 750 metres and 3 kilometres in length, Cruisers are anywhere between 5 and 6 kilometres long and Battleships anywhere between 6 and 8 kilometres. Back in August when we left the story, the US Navy had just suffered its worst ever blue water defeat. More than a thousand Allied sailors were dead. Four Heavy Cruisers had been lost, with a fifth disabled. The Navy, along with the American public, had been stunned by the loss, less than a year after the disaster at Pearl Harbor. Just three months later, on the night of November 13/14, 1942, the Navy once again was shocked when a Japanese submarine torpedoed one of the heavily damaged survivors of yet another pitched night battle off of Guadalcanal, the USS Juneau. Of her crew of six hundred and seventy-three men,. a mere ten survived after spending eight days afloat on life rafts and flotsam. Americans mourned as five of the dead turned out to be the five Sullivan Brothers of Waterloo, Iowa. They were serving together and remain one of the two cases that led the US Military to adopt a policy of not allowing siblings to serve together in war time. On the evening of November 14, 1942, it would have been easy to be demoralized. The Marines on Guadalcanal were hanging on by a thread. The nightly bombardment by the Japanese Heavy Cruisers and now Battleships was taking a heavy toll. The Navy seemed powerless to stop it and now it had suffered yet another tragic defeat. As the clock approached midnight on November 14, 1942, another Japanese navy force, led by the battleship Kirishima, headed into Iron Bottom Sound to pound the Marines on Guadalcanal into submission. This time, unknown to the Japanese, came to the fight the last desperate defense the Navy had to offer. This time, USS Washington was coming… --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/plausibly-live/message
