Amber is a facilitator, writer, and performance artist who uses story to design conversations and experiences for women seeking refuge and healing from wounding created inside patriarchal religion. We discuss her calling (as I see it) as a leader in the current wave of Mormon Feminism, seeking Heavenly Mother and expanding the feminine path inside and outside of Mormonism. Kate comes back as a guest-host to interview and discuss the archetypal story of Vasalisa the Wise and what we can learn from her path and apprenticeship under Baba Yaga in this Russian folk tale. In the premiere of the Living Goddess podcast, Chameli brings the oftentimes lofty ideas of Goddess, into a felt intimacy that is made possible when we stay close in, receptive, and explore the very first step that is before us. The story about VasaLisa and the doll in her pocket points us to a place many of us encounter in our inner journey where we can no longer “do it”, and that through the practice of receptivity, this place becomes a potent portal for grace and love to take the steering wheel.

O fogo representa a chama feminina.
Aprenda a caçar.
"Ressuscita-me!" "RESSUSCITA-ME!

A boneca no bolso, Vasalisa a sabida.
A boneca no bolso, Vasalisa a sabida.
Sam tells the Slavic tale of Vasalisa, and discusses how modern day patriarchal culture has twisted our powerful heroine into something feeble and weak. We fall in love with Baba Yaga, the old hag in the woods who eats children, and also get to hear some stories about real life scary grandmothers that we can't help but love.
Have you ever wanted to talk to a real witch? Today is your lucky day! Lori talks with self-proclaimed “out of the broom closet witch” Vasalisa Wall. Lori asks the questions we all want to know… like…. What the fu*k is Halloween? And how to you ‘become' a witch? Happy Halloween. Happy Hollow's Eve. Blessed Samhain. A note from our guest: "I am Vasalisa, Co-founder of Sacred Recovery and Creatrix of Reclaiming Recovery. I am a Certified Trauma Professional, Professional Recovery Coach (with a SHE RECOVERS® Signature Coach Designation), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and Sound Healing Practitioner. I also hold a Diploma in Addiction Medicine. I am currently studying Community Herbalism with Pacific Rim College. I have worked in the realm of addiction recovery for 13 years and have supported many individuals to discover their own magick and reclaim their sacred selves so they may thrive in recovery. I am also an out-of-the-broom-closet witch. I saw the witch in myself at age 4 and had confirmation of the supernatural at age 12. Growing up on top of a mountain, on the site of an old silver mine, nature has been a resource and a loving, safe, relentless source of support throughout my life. My earliest memories include getting intentionally lost in the woods, standing in awe of grandfather's beard hanging from old-growth trees, co-creating with faeries, talking to animals, eating wild chives, and honeysuckle flowers, and dancing with daisies. I followed a magickal thread to Seraphina Capranos who introduced me to Reclaiming in 2015. I immediately felt like I had “come home”. I have since completed two year long Apprenticeships with Reclaiming Teachers: Sacred Leadership and a Priestess Apprenticeship. I have also completed a year of mentoring with Suzanne Sterling with a focus on her Voice of Change Curriculum designed to liberate individuals to find and speak their truth. In other words, I have come to learn a thing or two about addiction, recovery, and the way our nervous systems and brains are wired! I am also a ritualist, a lover of earth-based spirituality, invoker of the sacred, and blender of science and spirituality. My animal companion and spiritual guide, Josie Manyhairs, is a guiding light on my path (and the path of many others!) Many people in the recovery community know me as “Josie's Mum” as she has been working alongside me in the realm of recovery her entire life, so she deserves special mention as a part of who I am – always. As a woman in long-term recovery from codependency, workaholism, trauma, and child loss I have been blessed to have her by my side. I also live a sober lifestyle and through my recovery have transformed my hyper-vigilant, trauma-dependent, codependent system into an intuitive and grounded one. I am passionate about creating sacred space, living authentically, and teaching others how to use their limitations as signposts guiding them towards transformation." Vasalisa is also the Community & Engagement Specialist for the SHE RECOVERS® Foundation Lisa is a woman in long term recovery from: Codependency Workaholism Trauma Child loss In this episode we discuss: The Witch Craze – Witch Trials in and around the 13th century Healers were considered witches (a healer: a mid-wife, herbalist, counselor or therapist, holistic healing practices) Joy and power was seen as dangerous What is an early exit-er from alcohol? You are your own spiritual authority We seek to do right because it is the right thing to do. Is it HERBs… or erbs? Intergenerational trauma goes back at least 3 generations Recovering witch, earth-based spirituality Reclaiming witch, principles of unity Fear based threats are still coming to Vasalisa since identifying as a witch Halloween? Hallows eve? Samhain? Samhain is a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition. We get Slovic in this one yawl. Kymbo tells us the story of Vasalisa the Beautiful, an epic tale from old Russia. We also lightly touch on Baba Yaga which is not typically advised. Huge thanks to our special guests Still Jeff, and Timmy A.K.A The Fat Chef
We’re so excited about this episode! A review of one of our favourite books, Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. This book completely changed our perspectives on life, it's our bible. The book is a beautiful collection of myths, legends, fairy tales and metaphors for life.Stuff we talked about…What being a wild woman means. It's doing life as she chooses to do it, not how society says. It's not about being crazy or out of control, but being free and out of the cage. The story of The Skeleton Woman, the right partner will travel to the depths of the ocean with you. The right people will stay around and will be there to help you through the ups and downs of life.In relationships, when two people come together, they don't become one. They become more.In the story of Vasalisa, it reminds us to connect and use our own intuition to decide which way to go. If we're relying on other's opinions before we make decisions, we feel disconnected to our intuition. It's never too late to blossom. The story of Bluebeard teaches us that there are predators in our lives who are out to bring us down and get us. As women, especially young women, we can meet men/partners who might not be the right one for us and could be a predatory figure who gives us everything except freedom.Life/death/life cycle means letting go and waiting for the rebirth. We have to surrender and believe that after the death will soon be the rebirth.Find the wise women and look to them for guidance. And, be the wise woman to someone else. There are so many wonderful stories inside this book and we highly recommend reading it. If there’s one book that greatly impacted our lives, it’s this book. It’s like a key that unlocks everything. We had so much fun re-telling our favourite stories. If you read the book or tune in to the audiobook, let us know. Welcome to Saga Kraft: myths, fairytales, legends stories, comfort us, inspire us and heal us. Please join us. As we share our stories, both old and new, more than anything, we are open to the story and it's unfolding at times. It may be one story told by one person at times it's the same story told through three different voices. In the end, we go where the story takes us and we invite you to follow. I'm C a writer, artist, and storyteller. I'm Betsy, a medium and teacher of mystery. I'm Gabriela, an artist and practitioner of folk magic. We are magical in training today. I would like to share a story from the Eastern Slavic lands of Russia. And it's a story about Vesta Lisa, the beautiful. A long time ago in a certain stardom eMerchants and his wife who have been married for a long time. We're finally blessed with the birth of a daughter. They named her vest Salisa sadly, when vessel Lisa was only eight years old, her mother became gravely ill as a final gift to her daughter. Vesselis has mother gave her a doll. She said my dear sweet listen carefully for this is important. I am dying. But with my final maternal blessing, I give you the make sure you always keep her clothes and don't let anybody see her. If you were ever endanger feed her and ask her for advice, she will always help you with these final words and a kiss. Best Elise has a mother died. The merchant mourn the death of his wife, but after some time he considered marrying again, he decided to marry a widow, a woman close to his age who also had two daughters of her own. He was hoping that this mature woman and her daughters would be a great family to vest Salisa, but he was mistaken. The widow and her daughters were deeply jealous of bacilli, says beauty and were very cruel to her. They gave her all kinds of harsh chores to complete and hopes that she would grow skinny and frail in turn Fest. Lisa accomplished all of her chores and hot sun, strong winds and cold rain, and grew more full and beautiful each day to the dismay of her stepmother and stepsisters. They were the ones who grew more ugly and shriveled with resentment as the time passed. How did vast Salisa remain so joyful and then changed against the resentment she was facing? Well, as her mother instructed vest, Elisa fed her doll who aided her and all of her chores, no matter how difficult they may have been. She always set aside morsel of food for the doll. Even if it meant she didn't eat much herself. It's all her mother gave her, was always fed and had returned. She listened to vessel. Lisa gave her advice, did her chores and even taught her what herbs to use to keep her skin from burning. When the stepmother would send her out into the scorching sun to work a few years, went by and Lisa became of age to Mary being the most beautiful young girl in the village. She had many suitors. Nobody paid any attention to her ugly stepsisters, which drove their mother to rage. And she would punish vessel Lisa with painful beatings. She saw this Elisa as a reason why her daughters would never marry when the merchant had to leave home on business for a long time, she found another house to move to this house was near thick forest and deep in this forest was a hut, which was the dwelling of Baba Yaga. Well, by Yaga wanted to be left alone. Didn't like people and even ate them like chickens. If she felt like it. Needless to say with the forest, so close to this house by Salisa stepmother found all kinds of reasons to send her to the woods, to complete various chores of hopes of Baba Yaga, seeing and capturing her. So she would never return, but somehow Vasily sun never came upon the hut of Baba Yaga because the doll always advised her which paths to avoid and how to get safely home. One autumn evening, the three maidens were tasked with sewing work to complete. When the only candle was snuffed out, less Elisa was forced to go to Baba Yaga hut to bring back more light Vesta. Lisa fed her doll and...

In the third and final installment of this series on connecting to your intuition, I read aloud the story that changed my world, That connected so many dots to what I had experienced throughout my own life. The Story of Vasalisa may sound familiar to you as it has resembling notes of the well known Cinderella story. But Clarissa Pinkola Estés does an amazing job of going deeper into this story by providing incredible insights into the journey of Vasalisa after the story. But for that, you’ll have to get the book The Women Who Run With The Wolves. Enjoy this fascinating story read aloud by Heather Alexandar!

This week we have the story of Vasalisa the Beautiful, the most famous Russian folk-tale.The story was collected by Alexander Afanasyev for his Russian Folk-Tales collections, which were published between 1855-1863. It was made into a film by the same name, and has featured in the Hellboy cartoon as well as various short stories. Most recently, Sophie Anderson used the story as the basis for her novel, The House With Chicken Legs, while Clarissa Pinkola Estes analysed the story in Women Who Run With The Wolves.Music courtesy of Kate Young, one of Scotland's most innovative composers and musicians - learn more at www.kateyoungmusic.com
Although only some of us talk aloud to ourselves, all of us have inner voices, even if we are not aware of them. These autonomous parts of ourselves provide running commentary on how and what we are doing. Are our inner commentators friendly and supportive, or critical and attacking? We turn to fairy tales, stories that arise from the collective unconscious, for wisdom about our relationship with those parts of ourselves that tend to operate autonomously. The Ill-Fated Princess must climb a mountain to confront and befriend her “bad Fate,” after which her destructive unconscious complex befriends her. In Vasalisa the Beautiful, a loving mother gives her daughter a doll that provides good advice in difficult situations. The bad Fate and Vasalisa’s doll illustrate the process of noticing how we relate to other parts of ourselves—and by changing a negative inner dynamic we become more whole. Dream I am alone in Aunt Gloria’s house and I know I’m there because I am house- and pet-sitting for her. There are several cats I’m taking care of but suddenly a bird flies in the window and all the cats are chasing it. Then a stray cat gets in and all are hissing and bristling. I run down the stairs and there are two mice on an armrest, but one appears almost dead. When I look closer, it is dead and there is a note by it that says something like “Satan, I know you could’ve done this deal yourself.” I look up and a bedraggled and skinny old man is standing at the top of the stairs and I know then his name is brandy-mouthed Bob. I’m frightened of him. He comes down the stairs toward me aggressively and said, “ Should we throw some punches?” I didn’t know what to do so I grabbed his skinny wrists and tried to hold his arms back, afraid he would bite me.

Every woman who has travelled holds a feeling of vulnerability. This is a raw interview of a young motorcycle rider who faced her worst nightmare in Bolivia where she was camped alone by a lake. She tells her story with such courage, but even more courageous is how she made sure her attackers would not be free to do it to another vulnerable woman.

Vasalisa and Baba Yaga brings together two characters from Russian folklore who each appear in several other stories. Vasalisa is a sort of Russian Cinderella/ Hansel and Gretel, and Baba Yaga is the nasty old witch/ogre who lives in the deep dark forest and eats bad children. We come to you from Dedham, Massachusetts (a suburb of Boston), where we just performed for the summer reading program. One of the stories we performed was Davy Crockett, which was appropriate, since we performed on August 17, which was David (Davy) Crockett's birthday. Three more performances after that, and our busy summer is a wrap. A big thank you to a family of longtime podcast listeners who traveled a great distance and even got a hotel room so they could see us perform in Williamsport, PA. It really made our day. Happy Listening,Dennis (Narrator, Stepmother, Kookla) and Kimberly (Vasalisa, Mother, Baba Yaga) Read the Story of Vasalisa and Baba Yaga Watch the Slide Show featuring photos from the stage production
