I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun and God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind. It's just that. Just kind. On a quiet farm on a distant spaceship, the Doctor makes his last stand. Because that's what he always does. It's The Doctor Falls. Notes and links Nathan compares the Missy/Master dynamic to a similar situation found in the late Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Second Chances, in which we meet a transporter clone of Commander Riker who is still in love with Deanna Troi, while his original version has long since moved on from that relationship. (We are yet to cover this one on Untitled Star Trek Project.) He also compares the Missy/Master hug to a similar one from the Blakes 7 episode Traitor, in which Servalan snogs a character called Leitz, who is blackmailing her, and then stabs him in the back of the neck with a plastic crystal thing. We will talk more about this during our coverage of Blakes 7 Series D on Maximum Power, which starts just three weeks from today. In The World Shapers (1987), a Doctor Who Magazine comic strip written by Grant Morrison, it is established that the Mondasian Cybermen were descended from the Voord from The Keys of Marinus. Bill's final speech to the unconscious Doctor at the end of this episode seems to allude to a similar speech from Moffat's first Doctor Who story, The Curse of Fatal Death (1999), in which the Doctor's companion Emma (Julia Sawalha) says “Doctor, listen to me. You can't die, you're too nice, too brave, too kind and far, far too silly. You're like Father Christmas, the Wizard of Oz, Scooby Doo. And I love you very much. And we all need you, and you simply cannot die.” You can — and should — watch The Curse of Fatal Death on YouTube. Picks of the Week Todd Todd recommends the Special Edition of The Happiness Patrol, which restores many deleted scenes and adds some clever and sympathetically designed new special effects. It's available on the Season 25 box set of Doctor Who: The Collection. (Amazon UK) (Amazon US) (Amazon AU) Peter Peter recommends the Surgeons of Horror podcast series on Doctor Who, The Horror of Who, which has featured Brendan, Peter and Nathan. In the episode Hartnell's Horror Part 4: The Cybermen, Peter explains what makes the Cybermen from The Tenth Planet so brilliant and effective. Brendan Brendan recommends George Sheard's reimagining of these two episodes as a 1960s Doctor Who story as Genesis of the Cybermen: World Enough and Time Noir. Check out the trailer here. Nathan Nathan recommends our other Doctor Who podcast, 500 Year Diary, which will be taking over from Flight Through Entirety for a few years while FTE takes a well-earned break. In our first season, New Beginnings, we discussed six episodes in Doctor Who and its spinoffs, where a show is making a new or fresh start. We'll be back with a second season early in 2025. Its first season came out early this year, under the title New Beginnings. Check it out. It will be back for a second season early in 2025. The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire has broadcast our hot takes on every new episode of Doctor Who since November last year, and it will be back again in 2025 for Season 2. And finally there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. This week, we enjoyed a widely-reviled episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine called Ferengi Love Songs.

Join Character Options' Al Dewar and Kenny Smith as they venture through the worlds of the plastic fantastic, as they look at the making of the Character Options Doctor Who figures. Their journey begins with the first 2021 wave of B&M figures, comprising the First Doctor and two Sensorites, Ian Chesterton and a pair of Voord, plus the latest releases in the History of the Daleks series, from The Power of the Daleks and Day of the Daleks.
It's a bonus episode of Watchers in the Fourth Dimension! Recorded as a LIVE panel in conjunction with DragonCon's Brittrack for DragonCon Goes Virtual 2021, we bring you our discussion on Doctor Who: The Early Years - a beginners' guide to the first two Doctors, broken up into six episodes, much like many of the serials of the 1960s: Episode 1: The Quest for Time – we discuss how New Series fans can discover the Classic Series, and some of the entry points into it. Episode 2: The Changing Face of _______ – the Watchers sum up the personalities of first two Doctors and compare them to their modern successors. Episode 3: The Children of Time – our panel discusses the role of the companions in early Doctor Who, how that role changes through the years, and once again, compares them to their modern successors. Episode 4: The Evolution of the Daleks – it wouldn't be Doctor Who without his greatest enemies! We look at their early appearances and discuss the phenomenon that was Dalekmania. Episode 5: The Emergence of the Cybermen – with the Daleks being phased out, the show turned to a secondary “dominant” race of monsters. In this segment, we look back on their early appearances, and how the earliest Cybermen were brought back in the modern era. Episode 6: The Recommendations of Rassilon – finally, we all provide some recommendations of highlights of the first two Doctors for newbies to the black & white era of Doctor. Commentary and analysis of Doctor Who's first attempt at an epic quest.... "The Keys of Marinus!"The planet Marinus was once ruled over by a machine which prevented its people from perpetrating any act of evil, but the machine was disassembled centuries ago to prevent the evil Voord from using the machine to enslave the planet. Now, Arbitan, the keeper of the machine, needs Team TARDIS to find the keys scattered across the planet so that he can operate the machine once again...ARBITAN: If you help me find the keys of Marinus, I will let you have access to your machine when you have delivered all the keys to me. If not, you will stay on the island without food or water. The choice is yours.IAN: Choice? What choice?.............DOCTOR: But I don't believe that man was made to be controlled by machines. Machines can make laws, but they cannot preserve justice. Only human beings can do that. This podcast is on the longer side as each episode in The Keys of Marinus has its own story. Hence, I do the commentary for each episode followed by my analysis rather than going through the whole serial and then giving my analysis.NEXT TIME: Serial #6 The Aztecs (Episodes: "The Temple of Evil," "The Warriors of Death," "The Bride of Sacrifice," and "The Day of Darkness")Special thanks to Cathlyn "Happigal" Driscoll for providing the beautiful artwork for this podcast. Sean, Bay, and Andy and joined by Maggie (of First Impressions Podcast) and Jonathan to discuss the first two episodes of The Keys of Marinus. Along the way, we talk about gimp-masked frogmen, 100 Tacos, and the oddly suicidal nature of the Voord. So much Doctor Who and so little time! On this brand new episode of "Doctor Who Wednesday" we start you off with one shocker of a current Doctor segment full of twists and turns! Landing on Earth in a daze the doctor is intercepted by U.N.I.T. coincidentally arriving at the same time as a mysterious meteor shower landed on earth. Finding his footing this new Doctor joins U.N.I.T. in tracking down the mystery behind the meteors and the mannequin like alien life forms that go along with it. As for "Doom Coalition" is part 2 a doozy! We see the return of the Voord, if you don't remember they first appeared in the 1st Doctors run in "Keys of MarInus". Then Landing the Tardis on another Tardis! and ending in an epic battle with a Psychic Time Lord known as "The Sonomancer" with the ability to manipulate sound. Be sure to come back next Wednesday for "Praxeus" where the 13th Doctor and her Fam. must fight to save the world from a disease like no other ever seen on Earth. and we take on the 3rd Doctors next series a 7 episode run where we see the first appearance of the ancient Earth beings The Silurians. Do the TARDIS crew have what it takes to save the Planet Marinus? They’ll have to think fast and move even faster to complete this quest! The Keys of Marinus are being hunted by the evil Voord tribe of fetishists. It’s up to the Doctor and friends to gather them before they fall into the clutches of Yartek, leader of the Voord, before time runs out. But it won’t be easy. To get to the keys, they’ll have to cross acid seas, survive screaming jungles, avoid bottomless pits, fight off ice soldiers, and a host of cunning traps that only a deranged hermit can devise. It’s another non-stop adventure from the SUPER MARINUS BROS.! For those who want to watch along with us, you can find this story in the US either on DVD from Amazon US, or streaming from Britbox. It all comes down to this. And by "it", we mean "our March Madness thing, but in May, and with Doctor Who monsters instead of basketball people." And by "this", we mean "the final rounds." Not all trees bleed, but the ones that do… they’re pretty creepy. I’m pretty certain this is the newest audio drama that we’ve listened to, which is kind of interesting because it’s also about the oldest (and one of the best) TARDIS team on the books. Review from Tin Dog Podcast 2.1 Beachhead by Nicholas Briggs In an attempt to recharge his batteries after his confrontation with the Eleven, the Doctor takes Liv and Helen to the sleepy English seaside village of Stegmoor. But they find the village in turmoil and, to make matters worse, their arrival uncovers a mystery from the Doctor's past which threatens the future safety of the planet. Can the Doctor prevent the Voord from invading Earth? And more importantly why have they come in the first place? 2.2 Scenes from Her Life by John Dorney Investigating the appearance of the Voord on Earth, the Doctor, Liv and Helen follow a trail which takes them to the other side of the universe. There they discover a mysterious and almost deserted gothic city lost in space and time, in which the grotesque inhabitants are conducting a vile and inhumane experiment. The Doctor and his companions must hurry to save the lives of those in danger before the experiment is a success and the unimaginable consequences become all too real. 2.3 The Gift by Marc Platt The TARDIS deposits its crew on Earth in San Francisco, 1906. There they find an actor-manager desperate to stage his definitive production of King Lear. But a real storm is headed their way when he becomes the possessor of a mysterious psychic ‘Gift' which is hungry for power and intent on wreaking havoc and destruction. But exposure to so much psychic activity has the Doctor becoming increasingly erratic. Can he battle his demons and save the world? 2.4 The Sonomancer by Matt Fitton On the other side of the galaxy a mining company is exploiting the already unstable planet of Syra for every precious mineral it contains. River Song is attempting to save the native people. She needs the Doctor's help, but she also knows he mustn't yet discover her true identity. The final confrontation sees the Doctor once again face his enemy the Eleven in an attempt to prevent the destruction of Syra and the genocide of its inhabitants. In episode 11 of the Doctor Who: Alhambra podcast, we briefly discuss the new Doctor Who book releases before we take a look into the Doctor Who universe. We review the main range releases 190 Mask of Tragedy and 191 Signs and Wonders which is the second and third releases in the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Hector trilogy storyline. The Philip Hinchcliffe Presents boxed set stories: The Ghosts of Gralstead (Six episodes) and The Devil's Armada (Four episodes). We finish the Big Finish reviews talking about The Early Adventure story: Domain of the Voord, which we feel was the strongest most enjoyable Doctor Who Big Finish release for the month of September. We throw in some of our silly opinions and some rants with some information Liam obtained from the latest Doctor Who convention. Next we discuss the first 4 episodes from series 8 of the new Doctor Who TV series. We cover our likes and dislikes and provide logical reasons for these opinions regarding Deep Breath, Into the Dalek, Robots of Sherwood, and Listen. We throw in connections between Vincent and the Doctor and Hush to Listen, and complain about Danny Pink needing to be in the series, and the Darkness of the 12th Doctor. Later this month we will be reviewing the rest of the Big Finish, non-Doctor Who releases to close off the month of September. Next month we will review Worlds of Doctor Who, even though it was released in September, it was announced for October, then as there was just a numerous amounts of Big Finish releases in September, we decided to keep it with the October Reviews.
In this episode of GoG, we discuss "The Keys of Marinus." This serial is a quest to find...you guessed it...keys....of Marinus. Featuring Boom Shadows, The Voord, Vortex Manipulators, fake Ice Warrior and the complete and total lack of peripheral vision - "The Keys of Marinus" may be the best Classic Who episode we've covered thus far.

Warren returns to the fold this week, having thought he had escaped the worst that Doctor Who could offer by missing the commentary for Time-Flight last week. Instead, Hartnell-phobe Warren was given both barrels of black and white mediocrity in the form of The Keys of Marinus, one of the lesser lights of the debut season of Doctor Who from 1964.
