On paper, "Boogie Nights" looks destined to fail: A new, 27-year-old director Paul Thomas Anderson gambling on making a period drama about porn ... starring Marky Mark and Burt Reynolds ... based on a short film about a guy named "Dirk Diggler" that Anderson made when he was 18. But instead of a campy tits-and-ass disco disaster, "Boogie Nights" turned out to be a breakout film powered by picture-perfect camerawork, a mind-blowing soundtrack, a swirl of emotions, and a dynamite cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore, Heather Graham, William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, and Don Cheadle. Seriously, all those people were in one movie that featured a prosthetic dong, crappy kung fu, and bell bottoms. Ash, Dick, and Gene naturally swooned over this masterpiece of '90s cinema, which brought up conversations about vintage porn, the darkness of the '80s, drug PSAs, Thomas Jayne, and of course that time Ash commissioned Shat the Movies to cover "Magnolia." Episode 237 of the Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast is a retrospective episode taking a look at not the highs and lows of 2019, but also the ’10’s decade as a whole. The past year in review is the first topic covered, as the best Transformers toys, media that the year had to offer and even some of the worst things in 2019 are discussed. A quick look into the future follows as the cast gets excited for what they know is coming before making some pretty easy predictions about what could be on the way. A deep dive into the past decade starts out with the “Aligned” continuity which began with Transformers: Prime. After a lengthy analysis of the fan-favorite show the talk moves on to the related War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron video games, covering both the games and the toys. Transformers Rescue Bots, one of the Transformers brand's longest running iterations gets mention next with considerations about what provides the series with the staying power it still enjoys with the ongoing Rescue Bots: Academy. Movies come under the spotlight next with thoughts on 2011's Dark of the Moon followed by speculation on what went wrong in the Wahlburg era of Age of Extinction and The Last Knight - and what went right with Travis Knight’s Bumblebee. The decade in review takes a turn into deeper discussion with a look at the evolution of how the Transformers brand was and now is being marketed towards adult collectors, including the influence that unlicensed "third party" manufacturers may have had on this evolution. IDW publishing’s “Phase Two” affected the brand’s landscape in the past decade, earning it some time in the discussion before the episode finishes up with personal reflections, bragging rights, highlights of the past decade and hopes and dreams for the future of the Transformers in the 2020s.

The film that puts you directly into the mind of the characters and the writer/director at the same time - you'll feel confusion and without direction. By the end you'll be giving the same answer as the movie - "I don't know!" Not even M. Knight can say what this movie is directly about. Ask him 6 different times and you'll get 6 different answers. One could put this into the sub-genre of disaster movies, but please, someone tell us definitively what the disaster is. The best that can be done is "The trees take revenge on man for invading their environment" but that just opens up more questions that can only be answered with "I don't know!" The on-screen scientists can only say "I don't know". Wahlburg never figures out what's going on and repeatedly says "I don't know". We don't know! Despite a few glimmers of ridiculousness, the film is pretty damn boring and consists mostly of people walking while no one has a clue what is going on. There's dialogue piled upon other dialogue just there to tell us "See! These are real Earth people." There's nothing happening that moves the story forward, only reinforcing that Shyamalyan had no clue what to do with this pile of crap. Steer clear. There's just nothing here.
