Derrick White records his first career Triple Double with 22pts 10reb 10ast in tonight's 119-94 thrashing of the Detroit Pistons. While White clearly led the way tonight we saw some great performances throughout. We did see the return of Porzingis in this one and it was great to see. White may have had the better game overall, JB led the way scoring wise with 31pts on a very efficient shooting night and recorded his 5th straight game of 27+ pts. Pritchard and Kornet both stepped into the starting lineup as Tatum, Horford and Holiday all sat this one out and they both played great in this one. Pritchard added 23pts and 7ast while Kornet had a 10reb night including 6oreb. The Celtics "stay ready crew" is doing just that and performing at a very high level when their numbers are called. The Celtics are now 54-14 and hold a 10 game lead over the Bucks! GDP Script/ Top Stories for Feb 28th   Publish Date:  Feb 27th   From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Wednesday, February 28th and Happy heavenly Birthday to Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones. ***02.28.24 – BIRTHDAY – BRIAN JONES*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Tom Wages Funeral Homes. Gunman Convicted Of Killing Car Dealership Co-Owner In Murder-For-Hire Plot Georgia lawmakers push immigration bills in response to UGA student's death Research reveals potential breakthrough in breast cancer treatment Plus, my conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on food products  from other stores. All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: TOM WAGES   STORY 1: Gunman Convicted Of Killing Car Dealership Co-Owner In Murder-For-Hire Plot A Gwinnett County jury has sentenced Lilburn resident Wesley "Draco" Vickers to life in prison without parole for his involvement in the murder-for-hire of Snellville car dealership owner Courtney Owens in late 2022. Vickers was found guilty of malice and felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession charges. Prosecutors allege that Stoney Lamar Williams, Owens' business partner and ex-boyfriend, orchestrated the plot. Williams is set to stand trial in March. Vickers received an additional five-year sentence for possessing the murder weapon. Owens was fatally shot at Royal Court Motors, where she co-owned the dealership. The Gwinnett County District Attorney vowed to hold perpetrators of violence accountable. STORY 2: Georgia lawmakers push immigration bills in response to UGA student's death Following the tragic murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley in Athens, Georgia, discussions about immigration policy have been reignited in the state legislature. The suspect in Riley's killing, Jose Antonio Ibarra, is an undocumented immigrant with a history of legal issues. Governor Brian Kemp and other Republicans have blamed federal immigration policy, while Democrats accuse the GOP of politicizing the tragedy. Proposed legislation includes bills to refund property taxes for areas with lax law enforcement, penalize jailers for not reporting inmates' immigration status, and transfer soon-to-be-released undocumented inmates to sanctuary states. These bills have until Thursday to pass one chamber for a chance at becoming law this year. STORY 3: Research reveals potential breakthrough in breast cancer treatment New research suggests that breast cancer could be treated with a drug that mimics testosterone's effects, offering a potentially less toxic approach compared to traditional estrogen-blocking treatments. The drug enobosarm stimulates the androgen receptor, which has been found to suppress estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer, the most common type. In a study involving 136 postmenopausal women with advanced ER+ breast cancer, enobosarm showed promising antitumor effects without causing adverse side effects or masculinizing symptoms. This novel hormonal strategy offers hope for a less debilitating form of treatment, with potential for further investigation in combination with other therapies.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: INGLES 7   STORY 4: Gwinnett Educators Group Endorses Shana White In School Board District 3 Race The Gwinnett County Association of Educators (GCAE) announced its endorsement of veteran teacher Shana White in the District 3 race for the Gwinnett County Board of Education. The decision was based on White's dedication to public service, her recent teaching experience within GCPS classrooms, and her platform informed by those experiences. White, a third-generation educator, has taught at various schools within GCPS and currently works at the Kapor Foundation. The endorsement follows GCAE's previous endorsements for Leroy Ranel and Tarece Johnson-Morgan in other school board districts. While White secured GCAE's endorsement, other candidates in the District 3 race, such as Yanin Cortes and Steven Gasper, have received endorsements from Mary Kay Murphy and U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick, respectively. STORY 5: Georgia lawmakers hold out hope for bill that would restrict publication of mugshots The practice of sheriff's offices posting mugshots of booked individuals has faced criticism due to its potential consequences, including job loss and reputational damage, especially for those not convicted of a crime. Representative Roger Bruce proposed House Bill 882 to restrict mugshot posting until conviction, with fines for non-compliance. However, a similar bill by Representative Jordan Riley has different provisions, such as delaying release until the sheriff deems it safe, raising concerns about restricting access for journalists and potential workload issues for sheriff's offices. While there is bipartisan support for such measures, they face challenges in committee and raise debates over free speech and the protection of innocent individuals.   STORY 6: LEAH MCGRATH And now here is my conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on food products from other stores.   STORY 7: LEAH MCGRATH ***LEAH MCGRATH INERVIEW***   We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: HENRY CO SHERIFFS OFFICE   Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. Hip Hop 4 Change: Using Art Activism to Combat Climate Change

ClimateBreak

What are Art and Music Activism?Art activism refers to the use of artistic expression and creative endeavors to advocate for and educate others on social, political, environmental, or cultural issues. This form of activism employs the creative power of art as a medium to move us emotionally, raise awareness of certain issues, and provoke thought. At its core, art activism brings audiences through an emotionally resonant experience that empowers audiences to change the way they think and behave to enhance an audience's sense of urgency and leave them feeling inspired to engage in civic activism. This innovative strategy of activism encompasses a wide range of artistic forms, including visual arts, performance art, literature, music, and more.Music activism specifically refers to the use of music and musical performances to advocate for change. Throughout history, music has played a significant role in numerous social and political movements, including the civil rights movement, anti-war protests, and environmental activism. Music's impact on society and individuals is far-reaching. Musicians leverage the emotional and communicative power of music to raise consciousness and encourage listeners to become involved with social and political causes. Melodies and lyrics are able to capture listeners' imagination, inspire people, and guide their actions. In addition to inspiring action, music activism can foster solidarity and a sense of community that is essential in the face of tackling societal issues. Genres like Blues, Folk, Hip Hop, and Reggae, among others, have been particularly associated with music activism, given their historical connection to expressing dissent and addressing societal issues. Undoubtedly, music activism serves as a form of cultural expression that has the ability to transcend boundaries and connect people with shared aspirations for change. Raising Societal Consciousness Through Hip HopEnvironmental activism in music has become very prominent in the contemporary music scene, with artists directly urging audiences to take action against climate injustices. Their lyrics illuminate environmental concerns bringing attention to pollution, deforestation, climate change, and call attention to the disproportionate impacts of these issues on marginalized communities. We can recall Joni Mitchell's environmentalist anthem that critiques urban development and environmental destruction, “Big Yellow Taxi.” While White musicians such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon are often credited for their music activism, Black artists, while often given less credit, have played a crucial role in environmentalism and for much longer. Charley Patton's “Dry Well Blues,” a 1930s song about the impact of droughts on communities in Georgia, incorporates Blues to highlight environmental racism. In the 1990s, grassroots and poetic rappers continued to enhance the public's environmental consciousness. For example, Mos Def's 1999 song, “New World Water,” brought light to New York's lack of access to clean water. Artists incorporate Hip Hop culture to advocate for environmental justice and for all marginalized communities. Through thought-provoking and socially conscious lyrics, Hip Hop artists have utilized their platforms to engage in advocacy work and mobilize listeners. While Hip Hop has been co-opted and criticized for promoting hyper-violence, sexism, criminality, toxic masculinity, and materialism, it is also home to social and environmental consciousness. Artists from inner-city neighborhoods originally created Hip Hop as an outlet for oppressed groups to address socio-economic injustices and validate their experiences. Overtime, socially conscious Hip Hop continued to evolve as a powerful tool to uplift communities of color and demand social justice. Music activism through the genre of Hip Hop exemplifies how art can move us powerfully towards civic activism.  The Power of Youth in Music Activism  Youth engagement is at the heart of environmental action, and music is a key part of that engagement. As discussed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), youth continue to exhibit immense strength, leadership, and resilience that is necessary for environmental action. Through environmentally conscious Hip Hop and other forms of music activism, youth are able to leverage their creativity, knowledge, and innovative power. Youth can channel their creative energy to crafting educational messages that inspire environmental action. Creating environmentally conscious music not only showcases the unique talents and perspectives of youth, but also offers hands-on experiences for youth to foster a more proactive mindset on a societal scale. In this process, young people engage in research and gain a profound awareness of environmental issues at hand. Youth strengthen their skills to analyze environmental challenges and effectively communicate them through musical narratives in an accessible and compelling manner. Moreover, producing music often requires interdisciplinary and collaborative thinking that enhances youths' sense of solidarity and community in the face of environmental issues. By leveraging the capacity of youth to foster change through music activism, we uplift the active role of youth in shaping environmental discourse, advocating for a heightened societal consciousness, and encouraging environmental action. Who is our Guest?Khafre Jay is the founder and executive director of Hip Hop For Change, a nonprofit organization that reclaims Hip Hop culture as a vehicle for education, empowerment, and cultural innovation. Working with local partners, Hip Hop For Change implements grassroots organizing, arts programming, and educational events to advance their missions and promote socially conscious Hip Hop that more accurately depicts the beauty and diversity of POC communities. Khafre is a community organizer, educator, and activist that is dedicated to fighting for socioeconomic justice and empowering his community's voices. Further ReadingThe Guardian: “Art can move us powerfully towards civic activism on climate”TIME: “How the Universal Language of Music Can Help Us Solve Our Planetary Problem”Vox: The evolution of American protest musicCharley Patton's “Dry Well Blues” (1930)Joni Mitchell's “Big Yellow Taxi” (1970) Mos Def's “New World Water” (1999)ATMOS: “Composing Climate Change: The Radical Legacy of Black Musicians”UNDP: “Placing meaningful youth engagement at the heart of environmental action”Hip Hop For Change For a transcript of this episode, please visit https://climatebreak.org/hip-hop-4-change-using-art-activism-to-combat-climate-change/

Towns, cities and villages across the U.K. were awash with Union flags and patriotic decorations to celebrate King Charles III's coronation, and officials said the festivities would bring Britain's diverse communities together. Musician Deronne White is a member of the Brixton Chamber Orchestra, which planned to parade through south London's streets entertaining crowds with an uplifting “coronation carnival” set mixing Gospel, jazz, grime, disco and rap. While White was excited about the gig, he told the Associated Press that some might find it hard to connect to the whole occasion. “For some people, there may be a slight disconnection in terms of the actual event and maybe the history behind it that I think with music they can be that sort of connection,” he said. With the UK economy on the precipice of recession, some question the cost of the ceremony. Adrianna Forbes-Dorant, who plays the violin alongside White, said “It is strange that this event would happen at a time where people don't really have like the money to get by on.” Across the capital, Janpal Basran, the head of the Southall Community Alliance, also raised that point. “Is it fair that there is so much attention and resource being put into a massive coronation celebration when people are in record numbers having to rely upon food banks, are facing poverty on an unbelievable scale?” Southall, known as “Little India” – the west London neighborhood is home to the largest Indian population outside their home country. A street party was organized by a group of local women that featured Punjabi food, Punjabi dancing and singing. Gulu Anand, who owns Southall's Brilliant curry house and has cooked for Charles several times over the years, is one vocal supporter of Charles. “(Charles) actually listens to you, wants to know from where you've come,” he said, recalling the royal's demeanor when he ate at his restaurant. “I think he is the people's king.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

White is actually in Jefferson County right now. He has returned to the Donaldson Correctional Facility, a facility he once spent time at. He returned to Alabama on May 10, and within an hour was brought into court in Lauderdale County to face a judge. Inside, the murder suspect learned he will be charged with escape in the first degree, in addition to the capital murder charges he already faces. He then left the courthouse flanked by law enforcement both in front and behind him, vastly different to the walk out he and former correctional officer Vicky White participated in. While White is beginning to face the music and answer law enforcement's questions, the woman who helped him escape won't be able to answer the many questions surrounding this case, starting with “why.” The coroner ruled Vicky White's death a suicide, caused by a self-inflicted gun shot as law enforcement closed in. While disappointed in the former correctional officer, Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton believes we will never know what caused his former employee and friend to help the murder suspect escape. “People who have a child will understand, and they make a bad choice, you discipline and you correct them, but you still love them. Vicky was a friend to all of us. I am very disappointed in what she did. I have no explanation of why she did it, what in the world possessed her to do this, we will never know,” said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton. Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly says his team is ready to go to trial. Again, White is now being charged with first degree escape in addition to the charges he was already facing. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

Stop Calling Black Women Liars

This subject may make you feel a little tense, maybe even a little frustrated. And that’s okay. For Black Women, it’s a conversation we need to have to grow and heal the historical wounds that keep us from taking care of ourselves. This week, Dr. Venus starts a conversation on how White Supremacy set up a system that deprived Black Women of their femininity, where many Black girls and Women get called liars when they speak up for themselves. She gives historical context of how slavery created a dynamic where Black Women speak up for Black Men no matter what, even when one that we know performs an act of violence against us. She gives a current example of this as Megan Thee Stallion withheld the name of her shooter to the police because she didn’t want HIM to be shot. Why do we, as Black Women, protect wounded Black Men who hurt us? Who stands for our safety at home and in society? Listen in for some answers.   Key Takeaways:  [1:54] Rapper Megan Thee Stallion recently suffered gunshot wounds and was too scared to tell police she got shot, for fear of what they may have done to him as a Black Man. This is one of many examples of Black Women and girls continuously protecting the wounded Black Men that hurt them. [3:38] Slavery in North America was structured in a way where Black Men saw that the way to get control through White Supremacy was through violence and power. Historically, Black Men couldn’t protect Black Women, as they had even less power than White children. Black Women have a history of protecting them, and even putting them above our own safety and security.  [8:22] The institution of slavery turned Black Women into a commodity, whose body is just there for labor. While White feminine energy is seen as pure and delicate, Black Women get a lack of compassion from the world and are perceived as tough and “able to handle it”.  [11:34] Black Women so want Black Men to win that we repeatedly give them the benefit of the doubt. [12:50] Until we take on healing our wounds, patriarchy within our own culture will keep us divided, especially in times of crisis when we need each other the most. Black Women need to feel heard, and Black Men need to feel respected. [19:05] Any time you get upset, take it as a reminder of something that hasn’t been resolved, a historical artifact. We also have the power to organize ourselves and leave situations that are harmful, toxic, or dangerous. [28:12] You have to love yourself more than the hope he will change.   Quotes: “Most Black Women who love Black Men, we know that the cops are on them. We don’t want to be part of the problem so we don’t say anything.” “They totally have to annihilate our feminity in order to actually have the institution of North American slavery.” “Freedom isn’t punishing or cutting people off. Freedom is when you can let someone be exactly the way they are or are not with no loss of power. When you are not a slave to their wounds, that is freedom.” “Once you are whole, you will attract people that are right for the journey. The rest will fall off.” “You have to love yourself more than the hope he will change.”   Mentioned:  Dr. Venus Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram  “Hot Mess Millionaire” Amazon Series  Free Gift When You Join The Truth Tribe The Black Woman Millionaire Hot Mess Edition  Join the conversation! He speaks of the importance of Black people recognizing that this is our country, this is our society just as much as anyone. It is needed for Black people to be more fully involved. While White people must recognize that we don't need you to be our savior. We need you to educate yourself on your privilege and race.

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS During the first week of May, White Supremacists skillfully employed the press to focus a substantial amount of attention on t he views of a Victim of White Supremacy, Kanye West. While White-dominated media enterprises devoted substantial time renouncing Mr. West, noticeably less attention was dedicated to the murder and dismemberment of two black males in Oklahoma. Two White men have been arrested and charged with the slaughter; however, the OKC prosecutors doubts Racism motivated the butchering. Speaking of "criming while White," Kanye West also got more ink than the conviction of one of the White Terrorists who carried out the violent melee in Charlottesville, Virginia last summer. West, crooner R. Kelly and the recently convicted Bill Cosby remain three of the most despised males in the northwestern hemisphere. Days after Cosby was found guilty, White journalists began targeting R. Kelley as the next black male scofflaw who needs to be handled. #KanyeGotVGQ INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#

Soteriology 101: Former Calvinistic Professor discusses Doctrines of Salvation

Dr. Leighton Flowers, a non-Calvinistic Southern Baptist, addresses the rise of "cage stage Calvinism" by taking on one of the leading proponents of Calvinism seen on social media today, Dr. James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries. While White has criticized the rudeness of many of the "young, restless, and reformed" types prowling the internet today, in this broadcast Dr. Flowers clearly and systematically demonstrates White's blatant hypocrisy in this arena. By playing clips of White's mocking tone, demonizing rhetoric, outright disrespect, and plan old fashion rudeness, Flowers brings a much needed rebuke to an influential leader among young Calvinists engaging others on social media. Flowers continually points his listeners back to "the principle of charity" which was described as "assuming the best about your opponent" and "giving them the benefit of the doubt" while attempting to really understand their argument before launching into criticism. While Flowers primarily sticks to critiquing White's methodology he promises to publish a follow up response to address White's actual theological arguments, which Flowers argues are undermined by White's overall demeanor and tone. While White is primarily a writer, he has appeared in Zombieland, Star Maps, Pushing Daisies, Undeclared, and Enlightened. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH (EOTM) is a talk show about work, jobs and labor. I, Catie Lazarus, wanted to hear from folks with some of the best jobs in the world. It’s why I interview (and award) these special snowflakes.
