Jack Rubalcave and I are at the end of our now-four-part summation of our amazing trip to Asia this past fall. I hope you've gotten a lot out of hearing about our adventures and that we have helped inspire you to go explore the world yourself. As you have been hearing, we encountered so many unexpected experiences, but they were almost all positive. The terror of driving scooters through the chaotic streets of Bali, the incredibly nice and polite people in the bustling cities of Japan, how different the toilets, yes, the toilets were, vending machines on the streets that served up everything from cold food to hot food to fresh-squeezed orange juice, the night markets in Seoul and Taipei with really, really strange food, things we learned at the DMZ dividing North and South Korea, checking into a hotel where bringing in a fruit called the durian is banned just like smoking is, the jaw-dropping beauty of Buddhist temples in Bangkok where also poisonous water monitors casually roam a busy city park, the food, the culture, and so much more. It was crazy how mostly first-world countries could be so different from the U.S. In this final episode, Jack and I chat about one of our last stops, in Singapore, a beautiful, modern city that is very culturally diverse, with areas known as Arab Street, Little India, and Chinatown, mixed in with their heritage as a one-time British colony. Known for their strict laws (and resulting very low crime rate), you can be arrested there for throwing your gum on the sidewalk and fined $10,000 for feeding pigeons, yet prostitution is legal! Go figure! Finally, Jack and I share with you how we pulled off this 3½-week-long trip with 13 flights between 7 countries for less than $1000 and bringing only a backpack each!  I hope you enjoy this adventure and the previous three.Jack RubalcaveInstagram @jubalcaveSnapchat jackrubalcaveBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

Hear about a Viking Ocean Bay of Bengal Cruise to 5 countries from Bangkok to Mumbai as the Amateur Traveler talks to travel writer Elsa Dixon about this East Asia sampler cruise. https://amateurtraveler.com/bay-of-bengal-cruise/ The Viking Ocean Bay of Bengal Cruise travels to 5 different countries: Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India. What Elsa loved about this cruise was experiencing diverse and exotic cultures, including music, food, temples, architecture, and ceremonies in the Bay of Bengal region. The cruise started in Bangkok, Thailand where Elsa and her travel companion did the typical city tour which included the Royal Palace, the Reclining Budha, and the Chao Phraya River. The cruise also offered more demanding walking tours, cooking classes, river cruises, and flower market tours. It also offered a full-day visit to Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On Viking, there is always at least one free shore excursion as well as some with additional costs. The cruise stopped again in Thailand on the Island of Koh Samui. The sightseeing tour visited Wat Phra Yai, the Smiling Buddha Temple. Or you can hang out on a beautiful tropical beach. In Singapore, Elsa explored different cultural neighborhoods like Little India, the Arab Quarter, and Chinatown. Her traveling companion did a walking tour that explored the Peranakan culture which is a mixture of Chinese and Malay/Indonesian cultures. In Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Elsa was able to visit the colorful Batu Caves temple complex, the National Monument, the old British Railway Station, and the twin Petronas Towers. The cruise also stopped in George Town in Malaysia where shore excursions include more temples, trishaw tours, and a visit to the Orangutan Island. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, Elsa toured the old town, the Galle Fort,  and attended a cultural evening at the Gallface Hotel where she watched the Sri Lanka dances. One of the other tours offered was a trip up to the high country to explore the tea culture. In India, the cruise stopped in both Goa and Mumbai. She enjoyed the Portuguese influences in Goa but really felt like she was in India while touring the crowded bustling city of Mumbai. In Mumbai, she toured the markets at the Gateway to India, Dhobi Ghat, the Hanging Gardens and Kamala Nehru Park, and the Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. The cruise had a number of days at sea that were filled with talks and cultural presentations about the region. Elsa continued her trip with a land tour of the "Golden Triangle" Mumbai, Jaipur, and Agra. She visited historical sites, observed local customs, and marveled at architectural wonders like the Amber Fort (Jaipur) and the Taj Mahal (Agra). If you are looking for a cruise that allows you to sample some of the countries around the Bay of Bengal, Viking River offers luxurious adventure.

Towns, cities and villages across the U.K. were awash with Union flags and patriotic decorations to celebrate King Charles III's coronation, and officials said the festivities would bring Britain's diverse communities together. Musician Deronne White is a member of the Brixton Chamber Orchestra, which planned to parade through south London's streets entertaining crowds with an uplifting “coronation carnival” set mixing Gospel, jazz, grime, disco and rap. While White was excited about the gig, he told the Associated Press that some might find it hard to connect to the whole occasion. “For some people, there may be a slight disconnection in terms of the actual event and maybe the history behind it that I think with music they can be that sort of connection,” he said. With the UK economy on the precipice of recession, some question the cost of the ceremony. Adrianna Forbes-Dorant, who plays the violin alongside White, said “It is strange that this event would happen at a time where people don't really have like the money to get by on.” Across the capital, Janpal Basran, the head of the Southall Community Alliance, also raised that point. “Is it fair that there is so much attention and resource being put into a massive coronation celebration when people are in record numbers having to rely upon food banks, are facing poverty on an unbelievable scale?” Southall, known as “Little India” – the west London neighborhood is home to the largest Indian population outside their home country. A street party was organized by a group of local women that featured Punjabi food, Punjabi dancing and singing. Gulu Anand, who owns Southall's Brilliant curry house and has cooked for Charles several times over the years, is one vocal supporter of Charles. “(Charles) actually listens to you, wants to know from where you've come,” he said, recalling the royal's demeanor when he ate at his restaurant. “I think he is the people's king.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Do it.  Little India in California is located in Cerritos/Artesia  If you’re in California, hit Pioneer Blvd for the best Indian food If you’re in New Jersey, visit the famous Oak Tree Road Most Americans are actually eating Punjabi food  Pro-tip: Trader Joe’s Tikka Masala is approved  by the Indian community  Thums Up is the Indian version of Coca Cola, note the spelling  When eating Indian food, your naan (bread) is basically your utensil Alert: do not eat with your left hand! Raj explains why. It’s gross, but an important rule to know about when traveling abroad.  Garam Masala is the spice you should have in your cabinet if you want to cook Indian food Why the cow is sacred in the Hindu religion  The famous Indian beers you to try, and no, it’s not an IPA  Links from the show:  Raj on Instagram: @Asaprajy Raj on Twitter  @Asaprajy Dear Food on Instagram @DearFoodPodcast Dear Food on YouTube Be on the Show Tell us your food stories!  The first time you remember tasting food, your dream dinner, or just a food that you can’t stop thinking about. For this episode I spoke to Bjorn Low founder of Edible Garden City.   Bjorn grew up in Singapore but only really got into gardening after living in the UK, where quit a successful career in advertising to study agriculture and volunteer on farms around the country.   After returning to Singapore in 2012 he soon realised that his dream of owning a farm had a very big problem - buying farmland in one of the smallest countries in the world costs millions of dollars. So he got creative, and Edible Garden City was born.   The social enterprise started off with a nomadic existence, teaching and growing on a carpark roof in Chinatown, a shop house in Little India and partnering with restaurants, hotels, schools and residences around the island. Since then, Edible Garden City has moved to a permanent location, was recognised at the 2019 Sustainable Business Awards, and will be showcased at the Dubai Expo 2020. Bjorn has also been named a finalist for the Straits Times Singaporean of the Year.   Our conversation touched on biodynamic agriculture, the challenges of bringing urban farming to Singapore, applying lessons from nature to running a business, the therapeutic qualities of gardening, and how Singapore can move towards greater food security in a post-COVID world. Bjorn's tips on growing plants at home even inspired me to try growing from seed again, and I now have a baby tomato plant sitting on the windowsill beside me.   Links to all of the topics we cover can be found in the show notes at https://henryyorke.com/podcast/

Viel Spass dabei! Unser Motto ist: #Mut zur Veränderung. Beautiful Borneo-East Malaysia-Talk And Sites Along The Sarawak River-Kuching I absolutely love Malaysian Borneo whether its Sabah or Sarawak-two of my favorite spots in Southeast Asia.  This podcast was captured during my last visit to Kuching, the capital of Sarawak. Not only is this a great base to explore some of the state from, you're only an hour or so away from the incredible landscape and wildlife of Bako National Park and the orangu tan rehabilitation center of Semenggoh Nature Reserve. It's also a wonderful diverse town with a Chinatown, Little India, and some pretty amazing places to eat delicious affordable seafood feasts. On top of that some of the friendliest most welcoming locals I've ever encountered. They should all be compensated by the Tourism Board of Sarawak! It's truly astonishing that more don't visit this paradise of nature, culture, and food. I broadcasted from the Sarawak River as sunset was approaching. It's a lovely place to spend time strolling, stopping for a coffee or tea, and enjoying the lovely atmosphere and surroundings. Since my visit they have opened the Daru Hana Pedestrian Bridge connecting tne north and south sides of Kuching. There was fear when the bridge was first planned the Pak Tambang, the traditional boats  used by villagers to cross the river would become obsolete. But regular commuters wishing to save time would find the boats would make a much faster crossing then a long walk on the new S shaped bridge. Thanks so much for watching the podcast! The guys discuss something of great interest to many of our listeners - where to take the best photos in Bangkok. Ed begins by discussing main tourist attractions such as temples; they have been photographed millions of times, but if you aren’t looking for something unique, Bangkok’s disparate temples are a great place to practice. For something a little out of the way, Ed also recommends a trip to Ayutthaya for a ‘mini-Angkor’ experience, which, while also over-photographed, is something special for the noobie. Greg chimes in with a vote for Talad Noi, his old stomping ground, which is filled with odd architecture, abandoned vehicles, industrial equipment, and a vibe right out of Blade Runner (especially when it rains). Ed next points out that Bangkok’s skies can provide dramatic photographs, both at sunup and sundown, and during storms, (partially due to the air pollution), but who are we to question where beauty comes from? Greg puts a vote in for Phahurat (aka Little India), and most especially the gnarled mass of sois behind a large Sikh temple, amidst other photo ops. Ed also suggests the back of Benjasiri Park, where some great action shots can be grabbed of the takraw players there. To close, a discussion of Bangkok’s coolest architecture, including a few iconic buildings and bridges that lend themselves to some dramatic vistas. Did we miss any? What’s your favorite place in Bangkok to snap a few awesome photos? As always, the podcast will continue to be 100% funded by listeners just like you who get some special swag from us. One of the best layovers for value in Asia, Kuala Lumpur offers fantastic and amazing food value, good inexpensive accommodations, and cheap transportation to and from it's international airport terminals. I challenged myself on this layover to come up with a total cost of less than $30 that would cover transportation including within the city. Dinner, and light breakfast and a little sightseeing. Staying at KL Sentral is one of the most convenient spots in the city to get quickly to and from the KLIA terminal 1, about an hour each way, and to some of the major tourist attractions. I found an inexpensive hotel room with a queen size bed, private bath, t.v., free wifi on agoda.com at KL Sentral. Since it's close to Little India, a spot loaded with character and inexpensive dining options it was a quick and easy choice for dinner, within walking distance. That also made it easy to catch the LRT to KLCC to do a little sightseeing around the Petronas Twin Towers after. For a light breakfast before I caught the bus back to KLIA I stopped at an inexpensive restoran for some toast, roti canai, and coffee. The total cost of the layover was $23!!! You could even do it cheaper with a dorm bed for $7 but sorry, I'm not that cheap!!!Thanks again for watching the video and subscribing to the channel. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Singapore are both great travel destinations that have their own flavor. While staying in the Bukit Bintang area of Kuala Lumpur, we had the chance to take in Chinatown, several of the massive malls, and check out the Petronas Twin Towers. There are temples to visit, tons of street vendors with spicy food, and street entertainment every night of the week. Singapore is in a class of its own living as a city in the future. It is clean, safe, and luxurious. Beyond the beauty of the downtown area, you can visit the ethnic neighborhoods of Little India, Chinatown, and Arab Street.

It’s 3 a.m. You’re alone. You’re behind the wheel. The water droplets race over your windshield and distort the fluorescent street lights, blowing them up like fireworks. As your tires roll on the cold, wet Eugene asphalt, you start to reflect. You remember the great memories you shared with someone else. You realize that all the best times of your life are behind you. You reminisce about the individual who you’ve become a hollow shell of over years of experiences. Or maybe you’re just headed to the next party. In this Emerald Podcast, Alec and Jordan discuss the appropriate music for late night drives, no matter where you or your mind is racing. Songs you'll hear in this episode: "Monsoon" by Hippo Campus "Like Vineyards" by Little India "Weathered" by Jack Garratt "Intentions (feat. Dan Caplen)" by Macklemore "Gettin' It Done" by Ross from Friends "Pyramids" by Frank Ocean "Red and Gold" by MF Doom "Self-Portrait in Three Colours" by Charles Mingus This episode was produced by Alec Cowan.

Canada's telegenic Prime Minister has been in the news lately, photographed at airports, welcoming Syrian refugees to his country. Much of Canada is colorblind, especially in places like Toronto - North America's 4th largest city - where there's not only a huge Chinese immigrant population, supporting two Chinatowns, but also the largest Sri Lankan diaspora anywhere in the world and a Little India along Gerard Street that puts most cities to shame. In fact, according to Statistics Canada, by 2036, nearly half of all Canadians will be immigrants or the children of immigrants. Places like Markham and Scarborough, a good 30 minutes outside of town, along the Northern edge of Lake Ontario host a number of ethnic restaurants. On this week's show,  deep-dive into the suburbs of Toronto, where a veritable United Nations of eating exists, in places like Scarborough and Markham. Eating around the world in pretty much one place. All you have to do is bring an appetite, eh?

The first day we went to Little India and ate with the hands. We talk about him being from Bali, being Buddhist by default and chewing gum being illegal.

Den første dag tilbragte vi blandt andet i Little India. Vi talte om, hvordan det var at være fra Bali og bo i Singapore, om at spise med fingrene og om ulovligt tyggegummi.

I am on a trip, a business trip to India. On my way, I had a all day layover in Singapore. I left the airport and went to visit some of the communities in the city on a recommendation from a good friend of mine. I went and visited what was referred to as the Arab Quarter, Chinatown and Little India. In the Little India, I had an amazing conversation outside a Hindu temple. I don't know much about the Hindu religion, but I was blown away by the warmth, and energy, and light at the Hindu temple. It was described to me as a Southern India Hindu temple. Again, I'm not exactly sure what that means exactly, but that was how it was described to me. I went in and I was just blown away by the energy there and all the things going on. It was amazing. I was trying to figure it out and super curious.

TIPS FOR VISITING CHICAGO WITH KIDS Traveling in Chicago you need a lot of time to see everything. If you are just looking in to see the ‘main attractions’, a long weekend would be good. Though it is not possible for everyone; try to allow for three days, so you can hit the big attractions as well as getting into some of the neighborhoods. Staying in downtown Chicago is closest to the main sights, transit and offers a range of hotels to stay at that will fit almost everyone's budgets from chain to small boutique hotels. Some of Chicago’s Neighborhoods to visit include: Little India is the Asian/Indian community and has excellent restaurants Andersonville which is a big Swedish neighborhood Lincoln Square is a Historical German neighborhood that has a few German Restaurants and a lot of places to go in walking distance Little Italy has changed but is a more trendy neighborhood with a lot of great restaurants and has the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Pilsen was originally settled by czech republic but is now a large Latin community and has great Mexican food. This is also become a hotspot for artist Wrigleyville holds a lot of the younger crowd with all the bars and shops The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium, The Adler Planetarium are all located in the Museum Campus. Not far from there is the Millennium Park that has ‘The Bean’ also known as The Cloud Gate. Eataly is an Italian grocery store/market that is a cultural experience. It has a Nutella bar that kids love, as well as for the adults a wine bar and a brewery on site. Inside there is a restaurants that have great Italian food. The Architectural Boat tour is a must do. Chicago is legendary for its architecture! BEST PLACE TO TAKE FAMILY PHOTO Most families like to take their pictures by The Bean. It is a memorable place that showcases that you are in Chicago. But this is a hard place to get a photo without other people in it. The Lincoln Park Conservatory is also a great place that has a few scenic spot to take some shots. FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Francesca likes to wear dark colors along with Calvin Klein Active Pants and tops. She can just roll them up in a ball to put in her bag and when she takes them out they are not wrinkled at all. She also loves her Merrell shoes. They are very comfortable and hold up with a lot of walking.
