Derrick White records his first career Triple Double with 22pts 10reb 10ast in tonight's 119-94 thrashing of the Detroit Pistons. While White clearly led the way tonight we saw some great performances throughout. We did see the return of Porzingis in this one and it was great to see. White may have had the better game overall, JB led the way scoring wise with 31pts on a very efficient shooting night and recorded his 5th straight game of 27+ pts. Pritchard and Kornet both stepped into the starting lineup as Tatum, Horford and Holiday all sat this one out and they both played great in this one. Pritchard added 23pts and 7ast while Kornet had a 10reb night including 6oreb. The Celtics "stay ready crew" is doing just that and performing at a very high level when their numbers are called. The Celtics are now 54-14 and hold a 10 game lead over the Bucks! The Jays were in somewhat of a malaise in an ugly win against the Houston Rockets. Jaylen somehow ended up with a triple-double, while Kristaps and D-White were the adults in the room. We also look ahead to the Mavs game and chastise the fanbase for criticizing Joe after the Nuggets loss.
The Celtics played this game without Porzingis, Horford and Kornet and blew out a Magic team that has given the Celtics trouble as of late. With all 3 of our big men out, we suited Queta up for the game and even started Lamar Stevens at the 5 in this one and the Celtics just took advantage of speed all night long. When you are missing 3 rotational players, you need your stars to step up but you also need end of bench guys to do so as well and that is exactly what we got tonight. Pritchard was the player of the game for me tonight adding 21pts on 6-7 from 3 but outside of him, we got really solid minutes from Hauser (per usual) but even guys like Brissett and Stevens played well. JB Tatum and White were exceptional tonight. JB continues his streak of catching bodies at the rim every night and Tatum put together an efficient 30pts while D White continues to be one of the most consistent presences on the floor each night. This is a very good undermanned win against a really solid Magic team that was sitting in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference before this loss! Marvel Comics editor Jordan D. White on how he first became an avid X-Men reader himself; his (very busy) creative process; what surprises him about X-Men fans; and how the mutant metaphor holds a mirror up to society in a unique, and memorable, way.
My friend Andrew White (age 29, finishing up dental school, living in the Kansas City area) starts with knowing he was attracted to the same gender around age 5 and recognizing he was gay around 15. Andrew talks about the events that led him to join the Church at age 15 (including a powerful dream) and then doing everything to ‘become straight' including being active in the Church (becoming an Elder, going to BYU, temple endowment, and serving a mission)—all with the hope of “rewarded with being straight” and also wanting to help others feel the love of God and our Savior. Andrew then talks about the super difficult and painful church experiences on his mission and then at BYU which causes so much pain/trauma that Andrew felt his only path to healing was to resign from the Church in 2016. The things Andrew experienced on his mission and BYU are heartbreaking—church generated trauma is real for some members of our Church and something I've learned to validate even if I haven't experienced it directly. Andrew then talks about his life out of the Church (very good experience) and then his spiritual promptings to return to the Church which happened with his rebaptism on June 10, 2023 by his lifelong friend Michael. Andrew bears a strong testimony of God's love for all of His children and the need for inclusion and diversity as we create Zion. This is one of the most powerful podcasts we've done. I learned so much from Andrew about hope, healing, grace, and forgiveness. I'm grateful to so many in Andrew's circle (friends, father and stepmom, allies, local church leaders and general authorities) who love and support Andrew—and see his great heart and needed contributions to build Zion. Andrew talks about a healing visit to the BYU Honor Code office and how that positive experience helped “over-write the trauma.”. Andrew concludes how he has gone from wanting to be “rewarded with being straight” to the “blessing of being gay.” Thank you, Andew, for being on the podcast. You are so brave. CELTICS WIN!! CELTICS WIN!! Derrick White hits an incredible putback at the buzzer to win 104-103 forcing a Game 7 back in Boston!!! This was a game that the Celtics led by as many as 10 with just over 4 minutes left in the game and they started walking the ball up and forcing things and we watched Miami walk the lead down little by little. The Celtics found themselves up 2 with :16 left and then Horford fouled Butler on a 3pt shot. Butler, naturally, hit all 3 FTs taking a 1pt lead with just :03 left. During the inbounds, JB and Tatum couldn't get open so the ball ended up in Smart's hands and he immediately turns around, shoots and misses but Derrick frickin White was there for the putback at the buzzer!! It certainly wasn't a perfect game but it doesn't matter if you win by 1 or 21. A win is a win and with this win, we have now become the 4th team to ever force a Game 7 after going down 0-3.
