The David Alliance TDAgiantslayer@Gmail.com Psalm 127 Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. 2 It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep. Interesting scripture…. What are we missing in todays world? Hard work. This verse is not implying we don't have to work hard if we just rely on God… no we obviously must labor. But we must learn to work in regards to Gods direction. There's an interesting play on words here between Children and labor and arrows, but that's for another podcast. But lets get back to hard work. It is a must, it is a requirement and in fact the Bible also says if a man does not work he should not eat 2 Thessalonians 3:10 What is missing in todays world for a lot of people and men especially? Is hard work. But this Psalm says if a man labors and God does not build then he is laboring in vain. So what do we know… we gotta put in the work… But the word build has a dual meaning… it means unless God owns the house and unless he fashioned it - you are wasting your time. You will never rest. Remember the curses in Get. 3 God told Adam you will work the ground by the sweat of your brow… that word there is Curses… Zey-ah sweat of my brow… You work your butt off, but its not enough. I remember playing basket ball as a high schooler on a hot sunny day at our Christian camp. I was a good player, I had a game, but I was playing against some killers… and girls were watching… and no matter how hard I played and yes scored… it was never enough. At one point I just leaned over sweat pouring from my head down on my face… feeling it trickle… and just wondering… will we ever get ahead? Will we ever win? The curse Zey-ah things will never be enough, work will never be over. You will never feel like you have arrived. John D. Rockefeller, the founder of the Standard Oil Company, the first billionaire of the United States of America and once the richest man on Earth was asked by a reporter, “How much money is enough?” He calmly replied, “Just a little bit more”. It doesn't sound like he has rest… But God can give you rest, if you let him fashion the work… it starts by him taking the curse… cursed is he who hangs on a tree… he took our curse. So why do so many people still feel like they are under the curse of Zey-ah? Because they have not asked God to be the designer of their work… to be the one who fashions what they do. To plan it, to give it rhythm to give it purpose beyond money. Do you feel like its never over? Step out of the curse and ask God to design your life for you.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Covid 9/29/22: The Jones Act Waver, published by Zvi on September 29, 2022 on LessWrong. The pandemic is over. Long live the Public Health Emergency. HHS is set to extend the Covid-19 public health emergency by its standing deadline of Oct. 13. If renewed on the deadline of Oct. 13, the next deadline would be Jan. 11, 2023. This would make for the 11th renewal of the PHE since its declaration in January 2020 by former and current HHS secretaries Alex Azar and Xavier Becerra, respectively. The renewal would occur as HHS plans to shift costs of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments to the commercial market, a process beginning this fall that is expected to take months. Hospitals have advocated for the PHE's extension. There can be no clearer proof of the abuse of an emergency than extending it after publicly declaring that it is over. Executive Summary Covid is over but somehow also still an ‘emergency.' Potential new treatment for Covid doing well in clinical trials. Some people will continue to do way too much prevention for a long time. Let's run the numbers. The Numbers Kansas reported 476 deaths, of which I removed 400 as a presumed backlog. I decided not to remove the 12,098 positive tests in Hawaii, although I am skeptical. Prediction from last week: 330k cases (-9%) and 2,600 deaths (-8%). Result: 316k cases (-11%) and 2,813 deaths (-2%). Prediction for next week: 290k cases (-9%) and 2,750 deaths (-3%). Mildly surprising not to see a larger decline in deaths. I saw claims in my feeds earlier this week that we were seeing increases in cases in New York and other Northeastern states as new strains take over. The numbers don't back that up and we continue to not see anything scary on that front. Predictions Deaths Cases BA.2.75.2 The contrast between how BA.2.75.2 and other recent variants are being covered and noticed, and how previous strains that grew at similar rates were being covered, is striking. This certainly does have a lot of signs of big trouble (paper). Thing is, the paper said that BA.2.75.2 had ‘profound escape' yet it is being outcompeted by a different strain, BF.7, which is a substrain of BA.5. Optimistic Chise thread on the study on Omicron boosters from last time. Bloom Lab thread on another study, showing B-cells more ready for Omicron 6 months out than 1 month out from a shot. New information has updated me towards Omicron boosters being a modestly better deal than expected. Physical World Modeling Japanese Covid treatment drug shows promise in Phase III trial (Reuters). More study evidence that bivalent boosters work just in time for new strains to take over and throw the whole thing into question again. In humans, even, and overcoming worries about ‘original antigenic sin.' While the new shots may or may not be worth the side effects, we continue to get corroborating evidence that they work. The argument that healthy people shouldn't use Paxlovid to ensure a mild case because they won't then develop sufficiently robust immunity. I can't imagine the math possibly working out there, even if the argument is fundamentally sound, and this is essentially gloating that a particular person got infected again while there is a new strain emerging that evades past immunity. CDC no longer recommends universal masking in health facilities. If you call for any other gathering to have universal masking, you are saying it is a more risky setting than health care facilities, that you want to be actively more risk averse than the CDC on this, or that your rule is not about preventing Covid-19. Probably all three. Another note of frustration with the stream of misleading Long Covid studies. Even when done right Long Covid studies have a super hard statistics problem to solve in order to be meaningful. Instead we get the same zombie claims over and over again. Zey...

What was the real meaning behind those black and white selfies on social media? The Challenge Accepted Campaign on Instagram spread like wildfire, with thousands of women uploading black and white selfies to show their support and solidarity for other women. The true meaning was to specifically support the women of Turkey, many of whom are being killed at the hands of men. Some captions provided more information than others and yet I still didn’t understand what it all really meant. In the final episode of Series 1 of United In Words, I speak with Zeycan Rochelle Yildirim, who took the time to talk to me about the Turkish Femicide. Zey is a feminist, an activist, an entrepreneur and such a beautiful person inside and out. Her instagram is a mix of the philanthropic endeavors she is a part of and her fabulous life in Istanbul, where she lives. To support the women in Turkey, I urge you to donate to the Purple Women’s Shelter Foundation. This episode is in loving memory of Pınar Gültekin - Rest In Power.

The powerful winds of Hurricane Sandy seem to have blown in the direction of President Barack Obama. At least that was the general consensus among political pundits on the Sunday talk shows who also expressed surprise that the devastation caused by rising waters and Sandy's high winds have put the issue of climate change at center stage in a presidential race where environmental policy was hardly mentioned. The damage along the East Coast caused by 70 mph winds and surging tides – projected to cost as much as $50 billion – may indeed end up a deciding factor, but polls suggest it is still an election that is just too close to call.
