2 Men Rambling is a brand new podcast about 2 men, well, rambling over football. With new episodes coming every Friday make sure you’re subscribed to the show to ensure you never miss out on the latest rambles!
We're back everyone and just like the rest of the footballing world, there are only two big topics for us to focus on this week! Unfortunately, the games themselves need to take a step back this week because as I'm sure you are all aware the owners of 12 football clubs attempted to reshape football as we know it. We spend the first hour of the show giving our thoughts on the rise, the 48-hour life, and the swift fall of 'The Super League'. We then touch upon what should have been the biggest news of the week, Jose Mourinho's dismissal at Tottenham Hotspur. What's next for both the manager and the club itself? It's also our one-year anniversary that we briefly mention and we update you all on our plans for the coming months! Once again thank you for listening to the latest episode of the show, if you've enjoyed it leaving us a like, subscribe, follow or review would be an amazing help. We all seemed to be waiting for Chelsea's next big test, whilst Bayern and Manchester City were discussed, it turns out it was actually West Brom! We kick off the show with our reaction to the 5-2 drumming that took place at Stamford Bridge this weekend, was this result always on the cards and how could this impact the rest of Chelsea's season? Meanwhile across London both Arsenal and Tottenham dropped more points after another set of disappointing performances from the clubs. What steps do Arsenal need to take to get back on track and is the end in sight for Mourinho and Spurs? We also debate Didier Drogba's Premier League legacy, the VAR drama surrounding Manchester United yet again and much much more! Manchester United & Liverpool are the most successful clubs in the history of English football. But are they still the icons they once were? Amongst other things this week we debate whether or not the Premier League contains any iconic clubs still or is the growth of the league itself sharing the status around the country more? This leads us into a discussion around the end/restructuring of 'Financial Fair Play' and what the rules and expectations are around the speed at which a club can invest in its growth. We also discuss how we think Arteta is doing at Arsenal, whether or not Mourinho and Kane will be at Spurs next season and how the changes happening at Manchester United might take them to the next level. This week we take a look at the Champions League draw and give our predictions on who we think will make it to Istanbul and who will ultimately lift Europes biggest prize this season! Are Chelsea the underdogs for the competition, can Liverpool rescue their season, will Man City finally secure their first European crown or will one of the continents big hitters lift the trophy in the end? But before all that we discuss Newcastle United's future and whether or not a relegation will actually help the sale of the club. This one took us both by surprise but Chris Wilder became the third Premier League manager to leave his club this season after he and Sheffield United decided to part ways by mutual consent. We debate everything about this surprising announcement, is it the right decision, why has it been made now and are the expectations of the club's board unrealistic? We also discuss who we think will take the reigns at the club next and what club should be looking to bring in such an experienced manager like Wilder now that he is available. But before all that the two of us need to discuss our disappoint in our clubs yet again, our frustration at both West Brom & Newcastle Untied, why Manchester United's win at Manchester City is pointless and are Liverpool prioritising the Champions League? Chelsea and Manchester United ran out another dull 0-0 draw this weekend and that's left us with even more questions about the Premier Leagues current ‘Top Six'. Why is it that the League's top clubs all seem very happy to walk away with a risk-free point nowadays and what has caused this to happen? This discussion also sparks a debate about the ambitions of Manchester United and it's owner later in the show. Manchester City on the other hand recorded an outstanding 20th win in a row after they beat West Ham last Saturday. We discuss the outstanding progress the club and players have made recently and how they will balance the league and Champions League going ahead. On the other end of the table, the drama and tension continue to rise. Brighton, Newcastle and Burnley all appear to have been sucked right into the relegation battle and we look at the club's run-ins and we give our predictions on how we think it will all end. We also discuss the free-kick controversy at West Brom, Dean Henderson's big summer ahead, the state of La Liga and Jacques goes on a rant about the Arsenal Invincibles! A week of shock results, red card's and refereeing controversies has given us plenty to talk about on today's episode! Two similar red card incidents saw two very different outcomes both on and off the pitch this week. But before all that, we kick off the show looking ahead to the potential title decider between Liverpool & Manchester City! Our weekly look at our own clubs sees us discuss Everton's fantastic result over Leeds and Chelsea's gifted win over Tottenham. It's been quite the week for both of us when it comes to football so we're going to dissect it all just for your amusement! Chelsea decided to kick off the week by sacking Frank Lampard before quickly hiring Thomas Tuchel who was in the dugout less than 24 hours later. We discuss the fallout from the managerial change, the future of the club's starting XI and why Chelseaneed a head coach and not a manager. But before all of that, we discuss Everton's woeful week. Whilst a draw with Leicester looks good, the manner in which it happed wasn't ideal however following it up with a loss to Newcastle is even less so! We look into Everton's season so far and why no one seems to want to grab hold of the top 4 race and make it there own. Everton's recent form also shines a light on Richarlison's efforts of late. Does the player deserve more time or is it time to move him on? We also give our thoughts on all of the games that have happened over the last week to round out the show! Liverpool's most recent result to Burnley has left the club without a win in their last 5 matches and in their last 4 they have failed to find the back of the net. Their recent form has seen them slip to 4th in the table (for now) and with the likes of Tottenham and Everton close behind them with games in hand, the club could slip outside the top 4 altogether in the blink of an eye. This raises all sorts of questions surrounding the club, are they still in a title race, are they at risk on missing out on Champions League football, who is to blame for this most recent slump and is the loss of Van Dijk starting to really show itself? We dive into everything Liverpool related and more this week. To kick off the show, however, David asks Jacques how Frank Lampard is still at Chelsea. We discuss Chelsea's form, the future for both the club and the manager and why sacking him now will be a much bigger issue in Jacques's eyes for the club in the long term. We also discuss Zidane and Bale's futures, Manchester United going clear at the top of the league, how impressive Leicester have been plus much much more. Newcastle United's loss to Sheffield United has brought even more pressure onto Steve Bruce, but is he, in fact, doing exactly what he is being asked, keep the club in the Premier League? We discuss Newcastle and the position they find themselves in currently, who is truly responsible for the situation they are in and is this a never-ending cycle until Mike Ashely finally sells the club? A huge win for Everton this week leads us into a debate about Alex Iwobi's recent form and comparisons drawn between Nicolas Pepe and Wilfred Zaha bring up the question of Arsenal and the state of the club's financial dealing yet again. Speaking of finances, we spend a lot of time on this show preaching that every club spends money, well we've got the information at hand and there are some shocking outcomes! We look at the reaction to Chelsea's recent form and why the unpredictability of the league this year makes us think its all just an overreaction. We also discuss the comparisons between Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard as managers that has sparked up recently. The January transfer window has opened and the effects of Brexit on it are starting to become clear, what will it mean for the future of British football as a result? Happy New Year Everyone!! Here's hoping 2021 is a good one for both you and your teams! But before this year kicks off we've got 2020 to wrap up, and the Christmas period has certainly changed the way the Premier League is looking! We kick off the show discussing Chelsea's current form and how long we both think Frank Lampard will be given. This leads us to review Chelsea's new signings, how we feel they are doing so far and whether or not Premier League teams should be looking towards signing homegrown talent rather than players from abroad? Everton's Christmas run was disrupted when their fixture against Manchester City was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak within the away team's squad. Was the 4-hour notice of the cancellation acceptable and could more have been done to prevent this from happening? We also dive into all the games that took place from boxing day to new years day which leads us into debates on Burnley's new takeover, Mo Salah's future at Liverpool, Arteta's position as Arsenal manager plus much much more. Finally, we round up the show with our 2020 awards! Arsenal are currently the worst team in the Premier League, the performances show it and the stats back it up! We dive into their shocking performance against Everton, the state of the current squad and why they are well and truly in a relegation battle. The other big news of the week involves Leeds United receiving nothing but praise despite a 6-2 loss to Manchester United. Does this make sense? We debate the reaction to the result, the stubbornness of not adapting a tactical style and whether or not Man United are now in the title race. Throughout the show, we also discuss Klopp's substitutes during their 7-0 thrashing of Palace, the future of Salah at Liverpool, where we think Manchester City need to improve, the Everton fan's treatment of their homegrown players and the development of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner at Chelsea. A lot can happen in a week, especially when you cram 20 Premier League matches into it! While Jacques saw Chelsea slip down the table, David saw Everton climb back up it and that's where we start today's show! Both clubs have had polarising results lately and the '2 Men Rambling Derby' saw Everton take all three points. We give our thoughts on the game itself, our teams following results, the form of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz and the future of Jordan Pickford and Richarlison. In arguably the biggest move of the week, however, West Brom took the decision to sack Slaven Bilic and replace him with Sam Allardyce in an attempt to steer the club away from the drop. The move has received a lot of criticism, and that includes ourselves, however, have West Brom in fact pulled off the best move of them all? We cover all the pros and cons to the managerial switch and debate where we think the club will end up as a result. To top it all off we discuss the Premier League Clubs knocking back the five sub rule, the growing concern of concussion in the game, the FIFA Fifpro Team of the Year and the complaints Jose Mourinho is getting for his style of play at Tottenham. The rollercoaster rides at Manchester United & Arsenal have kicked back into gear and that's our main focus for this weeks episode! After Paul Pogba's super-agent Mina Raiola came out this week and all but ended his clients time at Manchester United right in the public eye what does the future hold for the French World Cup Winning midfielder? We look at where his next club might be, what his time at Manchester United has been like and his similarities to Mesut Ozil. To add more problems onto Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plate United also crashed out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion during the week, will a devastating loss to City in the Manchester Derby finally result in Solskjaer's reign coming to an end? This leads us to discuss all things Manchester United, their squad depth, transfer policy, managerial reputations and more. Arsenal have also had a difficult week, a North London derby has piled more pressure onto Mikel Arteta and we debate whether or not the club should regret giving club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a new contract? Finally, we discuss the growing strength of Tottenham, the expectations of Everton Fans and Frank Lampard's treatment in the media. As the transfer window approaches the implications of Britain leaving the EU will take effect on both the transfer market and club academies alike. But what will these implications be though and how will they shape the future of Britain's grassroots football? We delve into the topic and debate the future of academy scouting and how the quality of coaching in the country will need to improve as a result. We also discuss the current state of Arsenal and whether or not Arteta's future at the club is already at risk all before Jacques lets everyone know why West Ham don't deserve what they currently have. In between all this footballing goodness, we praise Oliver Giroud's elite performance against Sevilla and discuss where we think his future will lead him, how Ole taking the blame for Fred's red card against PSG is wrong, Jurgen Klopp's BT Sport rant and what we think Sheffield United's expectations should actually be. Finally, we cover the rest of last weekend's results, their implications on the clubs involved and we give our predictions for this weekend's matches. Another week of non-stop news in the world of football has happened once again but we've had so bad news to go along with the good this time. We start the show with the unfortunate news of the passing of Diego Maradona and Jacques gives his thoughts on the player, the man, his legacy and how he will be remembered by fans and friends alike. We will look back at Maradona's life in much more detail next week when David return's to the show. Some more positive news, however, is the return of fans to stadiums and grounds up and down the country starting from next month! Jacques goes over what it means for the Premier League clubs going forward, who's allowed what number in if any at all and will it, in fact, become a disadvantage to some clubs later down the line? Jacques then previews the biggest game of the season so far for Chelsea and himself with the Blues meeting Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in what Jacques is branding a title race six pointer! Are Spurs really in this race for the long run and will Jose Mourinho embracing the underdog status once again have anything to do with it? Jacques also covers the rest of last week's results and give's his thought on the upcoming weekend's fixtures. The international break is finally over and a huge weekend of Premier League fixtures awaits us but before we get into all of that though it's been a busy week in the world of football once again! Pep Guardiola has agreed a new 2 year deal with Manchester City taking him to the end of the 2022/23 season. This will obviously stabilise the club, but a rebuild is needed and before his time is up will Guardiola finally clinch the Champions League with Manchester City? We also discuss the influence this move will have on the future of Mauricio Pochettino and Lionel Messi and it also starts a debate on which club we think is the better move for a manager at the moment, Manchester City or Manchester United? This international break has certainly been a controversial one, especially during these uncertain times, and a lot of debate has sparked from it as a result. Why did it even happen, were the additional friendlies necessary, is the UEFA Nations League important and what are the implications on club football as a result of it taking place? We also discuss the latest Daily Mail article on Marcus Rashford, how we think Messi would do in the Premier League and the worst final in Champions League history. We wrap up the show with our predictions for this weekend's games and our Fantasy Premier League updates as always. As we work our way another International break we ask the question of whether or not the friendlies taking place this week should even be happening at all? Will the Premier League suffer as a result and what are the moral issues with this considering we are in the middle of a global pandemic? This is before we head into a debate about the current state of modern media once again. Are the over sensationalised stories getting old now and are we approaching an area that is far too personal to continue as a result? We also discuss Liverpool's current injury crisis and debate whether or not their high line will continue as a result. Should Chelsea have kept Nathan Ake, would you pick Leno or Martinez as your goalkeeper and what will the fallout be from Lookman's missed penalty for Fulham be? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure as Manchester United manager has been under scrutiny since day one of his full-time employment at the club. With him set to manage over 100 games for the club will his reign last much longer after this weekend's game vs. Everton? The result against Istanbul Basaksehir didn't help his situation but what do the United board actually deem a success for the club and does this differ to what the fans want? United's recent performances have also brought many of their players into the spotlight once again and we get into a big debate at Paul Pogba's time at the club. Has he ever been utilised correctly or is he really just overhyped? The controversial PPV games are set to disappear from our game…at least for now…and it's a huge win for the fans. Will, it last though and will this fan power carry over into any potential European Super Leagues? The discussion of the fans experience in England takes us on a trip down memory lane to when we visited Germany in February and took part in a Bundesliga matchday, is it better than the footballing days in England? We also discuss Pochettino's future, Jota or Werner and is Manchester City vs. Liverpool a boring game now? This week the idea of 'Project Big Picture' was revealed to us all, with its plans set to reshape English football as we know it. Despite receiving a unanimous no from clubs and fans alike, some of the proposals weren't necessarily all that bad. But were the good ones just a carrot over the stick idea to get us to like it in the first place? We discuss and give our thoughts and opinions on everything related to Manchester United's and Liverpool's plan to shake up the game we all love. The Premier League is back this weekend and we give our predictions on all 10 of the weekend's games including the Merseyside and M23 derbies. David's feeling confident! We also discuss the current role fans, and the rest of the public, play when it comes to the mental wellbeing of players especially on social media. We certainly weren't going to wait for this one! With one of the most chaotic Premier League weekends's ever tying in nicely with Jacques's move we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to cover everything that's happened the last few days for you, nice and early! We start the show with a review of all the weekend's matches, and as David rightly points out, it would be rude to do this out of order. From Chelsea's and Everton's strong performances to West Ham's shock win over Leicester City, we cover it all before getting onto the two biggest shocks of not just the week, but maybe ever! Manchester United's demolition at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur has raised yet more questions about the club's future and the position of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a result. From the poor defence display to the Martial red card, we dive deep into the full match. We then move onto the biggest shock of them all! Aston Villa 7, Liverpool 2, that's all we need to say! From the outstanding work of the Villans to Liverpool's lack of a plan b, we give our thoughts. Finally, we cover all the latest transfers as they wrap up on deadline day before giving our thoughts on the window as a whole, our winners, our losers and the best signing of them all. One of the biggest transfer stories in the history of the game broke this week...but is it all for show? Lionel Messi has reportedly handed in a transfer request to FC Barcelona and has stated he would like to leave immediately. But is this request genuine, or is it the ultimate power play? We discuss how both Messi and Barcelona ended up in this situation and what we expect the outcome will be in the end. The recent incident involving Harry Maguire in Greece has brought up a lot of different discussions about footballers and their private lives once again. We look at the role of footballers in society and debate whether or not they should act differently to the general public as a result of their professional status. Chelsea have gone full FIFA Career Mode in many people's eyes this summer, but when you look at it, the books are almost balanced on their large transfer spending and it shows no signs of stopping so far. We delve into the club's squad overhaul and what their expectations will be next season because of it. Finally, we discuss the trial game that will take place this weekend between Brighton and Chelsea that will see 2500 fans return to stadiums, a new season of fantasy football and some of Gareth Southgate's England squad picks. The finances involved in football have always created polarising debates, so we thought we'd ramble on about it this week. From the income, the leagues generate compared to what they spend, the dominance of certain clubs across Europe, the issues surrounding 'Financial Fair Play' and bad ownership, to the ridiculous rise in agents fees. Underrated Premier League players can be found in abundance. Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, James Milner and John Obi Mikel to name but a few... But what about the ones who haven't won England's ultimate prize? Well, that's a little harder and this is what this episode is built around. Just as last week episode the rules are as follows, 11 players, 1 manager, 4-4-2 and no more than 3 players per club. As well as this we're covering the return of the Bundesliga, the latest on project restart and the deaded news on Griezmann being linked with Chelsea. Football is back! Well...almost. The Bundesliga returns this weekend and we'll be going over this weekends upcoming fixtures as well as updating you on the latest for the rest of Europe's top leagues. For the bulk of this episode, however, we are going through our all-time Premier League XI's. 11 players, 1 manager, a 4-4-2 formation and a rule that only allows us to pick 3 players from any one club. Some obvious choices and a few wildcards a thrown into the mix too. We also cover the idea of social distancing and safety on the field of play as well as who we would place into our Premier League Hall of Fame. As always please make sure you like, subscribe and follow us on @2MenRambling on Twitter.
The international stage is supposedly the pinnacle of football across the world. But is this really the case? We discuss why the quality of managers at an international level never really seem to match those of the top clubs. Different cultures also have polarising views on international duty. Why is it England differ so much from the like of Brazil and Spain? The Chicago Bulls/Michael Jordan documentary has been a huge success for both basketball and non-basketball fans alike. But what teams and players do we wish would receive this level of behind the scenes detail, and has the player power of Micheal Jordan ever been replicated in the footballing world? We also touch on the latest news regarding the restart of the Premier League, why do people support who they support and the passing of the overrated French striker baton and Maradonna in Mexico. Make sure you subscribe, follow us @2MenRambling on Twitter and let us know about any topics you'd like us to cover in future episodes.
