And what a weekend of fixtures, 37 goals, the top five separated by three points and last minute winners.Stamford Bridge saw one of the games of the season so far. What stood out, team performance or individual brilliance? At Molineux Wolves mounted a stoppage time come back to stun spurs, who have now lost twice in a week and dropped to fourth. Hot on their heels and only three off the top at Villa after yet another convincing home win, led by a very impressive John McGinn. Plus West Ham, Liverpool and Everton. TimelineChelsea and City3' great game at the bridge.4' Raheem Sterling, fantastic performance. How can he not be in the England squad.7' Is it turning for Poch, all the signings and stars starting to come good?9' Chelsea were very good, but can they replicate it.12' what is to come from Chelsea, very exciting, to play that well and still be a work in progress. On this episode of the OneFootball Podcast, Dan Burke is joined by Lewis Ambrose and Alex Mott. Arsenal overcame Manchester City on Sunday in what felt like the first big Premier League title tussle of the season. What does win mean for Arsenal's chances? Are City still the title favourites? And is Erling Haaland's form becoming a problem for the champions? There's also some analysis of the other potential title challengers, before we chat Bundesliga. Do we have a three-horse race for the title in Germany this year? And what's going on with Union Berlin? And to wrap up we pay tribute to two legends of the game: Eden Hazard and David Beckham.
Mark Chapman, Rory Smith, Chris Sutton and Micah Richards talk Arsenal's crucial win over Manchester City and is Peps side starting to run out of steam. Is Wayne Rooney going to be the next Birmingham manager after the sacking of John Eustace and the team give their thoughts about the benefits of dogs at football matches! 01:20 Micah on 50 Cent sponsoring a Welsh youth team 03:00 How big was Arsenal's win over City? 05:45 Are City running out of steam? 09:01 No Rodri 19:50 Rooney to Birmingham? 31:10 Should ex players be involved in VAR? 39:30 Dogs at football grounds & the benefits
Joining Tom Clarke on this episode of The Game are Alyson Rudd, Molly Hudson and Gregor Robertson. VAR is given a thorough grilling, but will anything change. Should it be referees operating VAR.City without Rodri.Gregor optimistic on the chances of Luton Town and impressed by the potential of Ollie Watkins. Finally the panel discuss the economics of the WSL and how feasible it is to see regular WSL fixtures at the main stadiums.Timeline:VAR at Spurs v Liverpool1' Alyson has a analogy… is the VAR an old boys club, people who all know each other, not paying close enough attention.3' Gregor points out the need for the best professionals, not necessarily former refs.7' why can't we consider the same skilled professionals that deliver TV, do VAR, are they not as skilled as referees?9' there has been a development in what a referee is asked to do. Communicate, relay decisions in English.14' Should ex players be referees? Molly Hudson gives the example of a former Chelsea player who received the most red cards wanting to be a ref once she retires.18' Liverpool looked good, even with nine men. Spurs win again, they find a way. 21' Spurs lucky, or finding a way to win. Gregor thinks a bit of both.Wolves v Man City25' Are City the same team with Rodri missing? Gregor really likes Gary O'Neil he thinks he is going to be a big success somewhere. Neto and his pace is a huge threat. 27' Wolves finally got a result for their good performances so far this season.29' Molly also a Gary O'Neil fan. She thinks it is because he isn't fashionable that he has struggled, particularly why he lost his job at Bournemouth.Man Utd v Palace33' A classic Hodgson result. Alyson points out Roy is undefeated in his visits to Old Trafford.36' Not at all surprising result, Man Utd are in flux and struggling for consistency. For Palace is the old result like this enough for Hodgson, does he need to change the brand of football and the consistency?38' Gregor thinks truth be told, they'll be happy to survive each year, and by appointing Hodgson survival is the aim.Luton's first win40' Big moment for Luton, finally getting their first win, two in two for Carlton Morris.41' Gregor believes it will give a huge boost. He thinks they have played well, created chances and lost games through individual errors. He thinks they can turn it around.42' Everton, after a big win against Brentford and Villa in the cup…now losing at home against Luton. Alyson thinks it is really worrying. There is more to be read into this defeat, something is wrong.Aston Villa46' Villa an attacking team with variety and pace. Gregor likes their style, likes Watkins but also felt Brighton gifted Villa two goals. Watkins has strength, explosive pace and can finish…how far can he go?50' Brighton fell foul of tinkering and rotation. Alyson thinks they are either very good, or horrid. They'll come good and play good football, but there will be ups and downs as they negotiate losing players and playing in Europe.52' Brighton need to maintain the feeling of strength, it can easily slip away. Is DeZerbi too reckless?WSL53' Surprise of the weekend as Liverpool won at the Emirates against Arsenal, all in front of 50, 000 fans. Big worries and pressure at Arsenal, Chelsea only dropped 8 points last year, Arsenal have already dropped 3.57' Gregor heard Emma Hayes thoughts on growing the game and the sustainability of the women's game. The issues around pricing, and timing of games The match was loss making as it costs 300,000 to open the stadium.59' economics of opening main stadiums for WSL fixtures. Hosted on Acast. Erling Haaland has scored 25 Premier League goals already. Enough to win the Golden Boot in 12 of the last 30 seasons (16 if you he'd be willing to share the award) - but has he made Manchester City better? Host Ali Maxwell is joined by The Athletic's Michael Cox and Mark Carey to investigate... How is performing against his expected goals tally and are there any signs that he'll slow down in the second half of the campaign? Are City better as both an attacking & defensive unit with Haaland in the team and how has his arrival impacted his team-mates - most notably Kevin de Bruyne. Plus, as Pep Guardiola surpassed 500 top-flight league games in management, how are City 'evolving' once again and how the 22-year-old Haaland is already becoming a more complete footballer under his tutelage. After a short break, we're celebrating our 100th episode with an Olympics Special.Sure, we can barely remember the names of any of the athletes, our knowledge of most of the sports is sketchy and the time difference is an issue but it's fair to say, we've both enjoyed Japan's Not Football extravaganza. So much has happened inside the first 10 days that we can barely scratch the surface but that doesn't stop us from trying. Weightlifting vs swimming, 13-year-olds on the podium, high jumpers sharing gold, the politicisation of sport and batshit crazy BMXing all make the cut as we deliver our mild to medium-hot takes. We didn't feel we could ignore the beautiful game altogether, so football kicks off part two. What's going on at Arsenal? Are City about to smash their transfer record twice over? And are we excited about the return of the Premier League? It's up for debate.Cricket's The Hundred has been garnering lots of headlines, good and bad since it got going a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't look that different to 'normal' cricket in our eyes but it's entertaining enough. Naturally, we focus on the snack brands emblazoned on the shirt of each franchise...that's where the big debate is.The Lions tour of South Africa has proved to be a feisty affair on the pitch. Delicately balanced at 1-1, we're expecting even more fireworks in the series decider. The big question is whether Rassie Erasmus will continue to stoke the fires using his burner account.Enjoy the show!Every week on Left Field, Wogan and Allen dissect the latest in Football and Not Football. Are City vulnerable when teams score more than one goal against them? We chat about Liverpool and their defeat at home to Fulham, the wheels have well and truly come off. What is the answer for Liverpool from now to the end of the season?
The FPL General is back and eager to move on quickly from a historic double gameweek - which failed to live up to expectations... Fortunately Gameweek 27 is upon us and some big questions need to be answered, that is, if you can all stop looking ahead to 'blank gameweek 29' of course! Qs: Is it time to replace Bruno Fernandes ahead of a tough run of games for Manchester United? Is a Spurs triple-up a good option for the remainder of the season? Would it be wise to focus all our attention on the upcoming blank Gameweek 29? A Brighton defender or Michail Antonio? Best Harvey Barnes replacements for similar money or less? Are City's fringe players like Mahrez, Foden & Jesus becoming a good option? Who are the best defenders for £4.5m or less? And is Alex McCarthy actually worth keeping? This week we lost Super Frank. Another Chelsea manager that has felt the wrath of the owner. The difference this time was that this manager was a club legend. For this conversation we brought on our good friend Liam, who is a Chelsea fan all the way from sunny California to get his thoughts on the situation at Chelsea. We also took the top five (at the time of planning for the podcast) and discuss their next six games in what could be the moment someone starts to pull away with the league. Are City clear favorites? Can United bounce back off that defeat last night and keep pace? Are Leicester good enough to win it again? Are Spurs the dark horses with Jose in charge? And can Jurgen Klopp turn around his first tough time at Liverpool to regain the title? Just remember. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Sit back. Relax. Pour yourself a drink and enjoy the conversation.

Simon Hill joins Josh and Lachie to announce he'll be joining the Optus Sport team to call the UEFA Champions League and Europa League action! We chat to Simon about his beloved City being given a reprieve by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and whether the Financial Fair Play rules were a good idea in the first place. He also reflects on calling games remotely, and how the changed format of the UCL could lead to some big upsets. Plus, resident Arsenal fan Lachie is basking in the glory of the Gunners' 14th FA Cup triumph, made all the sweeter coming at the expense of their London rivals. But did the officiating determine the outcome? Could Frank Lampard have done things differently? And is this success - and Europa League qualification - enough to keep Aubameyang around? Then there's A-League to cover, with two games of wildly contrasting aesthetics and playing styles. Are Sydney in trouble? Are City title contenders? And could Carl Robinson be leading the ultimate underdog turnaround at Newcastle?

In reality it was more a story of Manchester City's missed chances. Red card will annoy Guardiola more than the misses Manchester City have now lost six games in the Premier League this season, their joint-most in a single campaign under manager Pep Guardiola (six in 2016-17).Manchester City have gone consecutive games without scoring for the first time under Guardiola, having last done so back in March 2016 under Manuel Pellegrini (three games without a goal). Manchester City have failed to score four of the last six penalties they have taken across all competitions - [x] Manchester City host West Ham in their next Premier League game on Sunday, 9 February (16:30). FAN QUESTIONS - [ ] Darren Beswick Poor finishing cost the game yesterday I don't think slagging players off works we all need to stick together move forward and get back to being the great team that we are. Personally I would like to see Garcia get a run of games under his belt the lad is class =- - [ ] Mark Dorey There are a few points on here I definitely want to know the answers to. But the main question I’ve not seen is why we persist with Zinchenko as a left back. He’s not a left back, he’s a left winger. Every time we get targeted there. If we’re not playing Mendy there, why not Cancelo. It’s like we got lucky with Delph one week and Pep’s decided than anyone can play there. Zinchenko is a decent attacker, but the one bit of defending he did this weekend he got booked (and subsequently sent off) for. =- Andy Callery With the league gone, one final booked. And realistically only the FA cup left to win, weve not a prayer in champs league, is it time if Foden is Silvas replacement to get him involved. After all its Davids last 13 games now and to throw foden in on day one in 20/21 season may be a bit rash. He needs regular starts and involvement now. Not just last 10 mins every now and then =- Carl Turner Does the team actually work on finishing in training? It seems to me that all they work on is retaining possession and passing. We seem to have forgotten how to finish of chances including penalties. =- Neill Morton Not sure how everyone else feels but I have alot of questions. Why is fernandinho still on defense? Why hasn't Mendy been replaced? Why didn't we replace Kompany? Why did Silva get captain when he seems to be a sub this season? Why did Sterling become terrible? Why does Gundogan not seem like a threat any more? Why does every game seem like the opposition scores when they get a shot? Why dont we play foden? Why are we missing so many penalties? Why do we never score from corners? I'm sure you all have alot of questions too =- Trudy Burns Why did aguero not take the penalty yesterday, sterling ,otamendia, stones and mahrez need to go =- Mursal CAli We need also to adress to give youngsters a chances to play like foden and garcia and also To mix our games with long passes and shooting from From distance Because teams adopted our tikitaka football Energy wasting =- The hypocritical media and PL/FA who often said Utd’s dominance was good for football but City’s wasn’t !!! now calling out Pep for mentioning it !!! -- - [x] Do you think athleticism and general lack of pace is hindering this city side ? Things seemed fine when ferna was in midfield with his dynamism. Walker essentially saved the back 4's behind vs utd with his pace -- - [x] Are City unlucky this season or have teams got their tactics right against us or do we have serious strategic issues? -- - [x] Rodri/Gundogan double pivot doesn't work and Pep needs to dispose of it ASAP - [x] Pep can't legislate for abysmal finishing. He got his tactics spot on in both defeats this week Squad needs an overhaul in the summer -- I have a question for u to debate about, Does possession football work anymore and is counter attacking football the future for football? --
