It's Episode 363, and LAFC has just won the most important match in club history! LAFC slays LIGA MX giant Club America, 2-1, after 120'!The atmosphere was unlike any other in the history of BMO Stadium, as Club America brought incredible support and a high-powered roster into Los Angeles for the winner-take-all showdown. After a tense, scoreless first half, Las Aquilas would get on the board first, with a little help from VAR. A soft penalty was awarded, which, of all people, Brian Rodriguez buries to put the visitors on top. Just before the 90', a perfect corner from Denis Bouanga finds the well-placed head of Igor Jesus, and we are level! What a time for Igor to score his first goal, and we are headed to Extra Time. In the second 15' half, Denis Bouanga pays off wonderful buildup from Olivier Giroud and Frankie Amaya, as his shot deflects off a defender's leg and in for the winner! LAFC is headed to the Club World Cup!Also on this episode, we take a peek at our opponents, Chelsea, Flamengo, and ES Tunis. Scarf loses his voice, Filly gets it right, Maxime Chanot is amazing without playing a minute, and apologies all around to Olivier Giroud!

It's Episode 362, the second game recap episode in a row where we discuss a disappointing 2-2 draw to a Wooden Spoon contender. Our location shifts to Quebec, where LAFC was only able to take a point from lowly CF Montreal. Montreal, the club that had scored just 8 goals all season, raced out to a 2-0 lead after 22', thanks to Prince Owusu's penalty and a couple of lucky bounces. LAFC would respond right before the half through Mark Delgado as the half would end 2-1.The subs made all the difference for LAFC. Ryan Hollingshead improved the offense, Cengiz Ünder brought a calm on the ball, and Olivier Giroud delivered the tying goal, making the run and putting away a deflection. Not the story we wanted in Montreal, but LAFC's takes a point. Next up is Club America, and a spot in the Club World Cup. But until then, enjoy 362!

It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at the Club World Cup, set to kick off just a couple of weeks after the European season ends. The tournament has divided fans and pundits alike, with some seeing it as a bizarre power play from FIFA to try and rival the riches of the Champions League, whilst others feel that it's an opportunity to spread the game's wealth on a more even keel globally. We examine the history of the tournament and where the concept originated from, before taking a look at how it matters differently to different areas of the globe - in some place, it's a real badge of honour; whilst in others, it's treated as a second-class trophy. Perhaps more importantly, there's a deep dive into the finances of the tournament and how it's going to work, as well as some thoughts on if we should really be adding more football into an already oversaturated calendar - whilst the concept of the CWC is a good one, generally; is there actually a real need for this given the amount of football players are already going through? So, is this global benevolence or a cash grab from the Federation? Are the big teams going to send shadow sides or are the megastars going to give it all they have? And to whom does this all matter most? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

It was a dramatic week for USMNT players abroad, with headlines coming from Italy, the Netherlands, England, and beyond. In Coppa Italia action, Christian Pulisic started for AC Milan as they sought their first cup title since 2003, but it was Bologna who stole the spotlight. Dan Ndoye, who the USMNT will face in June with Switzerland, scored the only goal to lift Bologna to their first major trophy in 51 years. AC Milan now looks ahead to Sunday's critical Serie A matchup against Roma, with Juventus facing Udinese the same day. Elsewhere, Inter take on Lazio and Parma host Napoli in key matchups that could shake up the title race. Over in the Eredivisie, Malik Tillman turned heads with a brace in PSV's 4-1 win over Heracles, while Sergiño Dest returned to form with an assist. Hello Rank Squad! It's that time of the year where amidst all the trophies being handed out, thoughts turn to who are the frontrunners in the race for the biggest individual prize in the game - France Football's yearly Ballon d'Or. Last year the award came with a whole thunderstorm of controversy, with Real Madrid boycotting the ceremony after Rodri won the top prize over Vinicius Jr. They probably don't need to worry that much this year - we'd be surprised if there were any Los Blancos stars anywhere near the podium - but the absence of both Vini and Rodri from the frontrunners opens up some interesting discussions. We dive deep on where we think the current positionings are for the likes of PSG's Ousmane Dembele, Gigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi, as well as Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Pedri - as well as the individual pace-setters like Mo Salah, Lautaro Martinez, Kylian Mbappé, and Harry Kane; before we also take a quick look at the Kopa Trophy candidates in Part Three. Before that, there's a return for Things We Love, where Dean discusses a big summer ahead for Arsenal in the transfer market, and Jack takes a quick look at a wonderful season at Balaidos for Celta Vigo, under the stewardship of Claudio Giraldez. It's Ranks!  And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
