In this episode we convene a few days after Arsenal lost the Champions League final to PSG in Budapest. So much has happened since then, that's it's hard to really keep track, but we go chronologically through the trips to Hungary, the atmosphere in the city among other Arsenal fans, and lots more before we get to the game itself. Kai Havertz's early goal had a big impact on the game, not simply by virtue of putting us ahead, but how it influenced the game state. There's discussion of the penalty they were awarded and the one we weren't, the referee's performance, extra-time, and ultimately the heartbreak of the penalty shoot-out with analysis of the takers and the order in which they were taken. After some reflections on how it all felt, we go into part 2 to talk about the post-game reaction in Budapest, what we can learn from this game, before focusing on the incredible scenes in North London at the parade which really helped diminish the pain of the night before. We also take some listener questions about Josh Kroenke and his role, the potential profile of summer signings, Arsenal being emotional, and loads more besides. It's a long one, strap in!Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsenal's Champions League final ended in the cruellest way possible. After a dramatic night in Budapest, Mikel Arteta's side fell to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties following a 1-1 draw across 120 minutes. Kai Havertz gave Arsenal the perfect start, PSG responded from the spot, and what followed was a tactical battle between Europe's most dangerous attack and one of the continent's strongest defensive units. In this Match Review episode, Elliott, Justin and JJ break down the final in full. They discuss Arsenal's game plan, Havertz's early goal, Gabriel's outstanding defensive performance, the key moments that shaped the contest and whether Arsenal showed too much respect to the reigning European champions. The panel also examine the major refereeing decisions, including the penalty awarded to PSG, Arsenal's late appeal involving Noni Madueke and the wider frustration surrounding the officiating on the night. There is a detailed discussion on Arteta's substitutions, the impact of Viktor Gyökeres, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze, as well as Arsenal's approach during extra time as the game drifted towards penalties. The shootout itself is analysed, including Arsenal's misses, David Raya's role and the emotions of seeing European glory slip away after such a long and impressive campaign.Away from the final, the conversation shifts to the following day's Premier League champions parade. The hosts reflect on the scenes across North London, the reported 1.5 million supporters in attendance, Ben White's antics, Josh Kroenke's celebrations and what the day meant after the disappointment of Budapest. The episode closes with a broader reflection on Arsenal's 2025/26 season, the progress made under Arteta, the lessons learned from reaching a Champions League final and why the squad believe this journey is far from finished.Premier League Champions. Arsenal survived one of the season's most chaotic afternoons at the London Stadium to remain top of the Premier League — but this was far from a comfortable title-race performance. The panel breaks down Arsenal's dominant opening spell, the tactical structure that initially overwhelmed West Ham, and why the game completely changed following Ben White's injury and Mikel Arteta's controversial reshuffle. There's detailed discussion around Declan Rice moving to right back, Martin Zubimendi's difficult introduction into the game, and whether Arteta once again overthought a high-pressure moment. The episode also focuses heavily on David Raya's enormous late save from Matías Fernández, with debate over where it ranks among Arsenal's most important moments of the season.Martin Ødegaard's substitute cameo, Leandro Trossard's decisive winner, and Arsenal's ability to survive difficult moments under pressure are all analysed as the title race enters its final weeks. The second half of the show is dominated by VAR controversy after West Ham's stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out for a foul on David Raya. Arsenal survived one of their most emotionally charged matches of the season as Mikel Arteta's side edged Newcastle United 1-0 at the Emirates to keep their Premier League title hopes alive. In this Match Review episode, Gavin and Elliot break down the nerves, pressure, and significance of a win that may prove pivotal in Arsenal's run-in. From early Newcastle pressure and a tense Emirates atmosphere to Eberechi Eze's decisive first-half strike, the pod explores how Arsenal found a way through despite mounting injuries and visible fatigue. The episode examines the tactical impact of Kai Havertz's injury, Arsenal's growing structural limitations, and the continued balancing act required as the squad navigates the closing weeks of the season. There is detailed discussion on midfield control, Martin Ødegaard's difficult afternoon, Declan Rice's physical condition, and the squad's increasing dependence on moments of individual quality.Attention also turns to Bukayo Saka's return, his immediate influence off the bench, and what his fitness could mean for Arsenal's title push. The hosts assess Victor Gyökeres' difficult cameo, major refereeing controversy surrounding Nick Pope's challenge, and why squad depth remains such a critical issue. There is also praise for Piero Hincapié's defensive display, reflection on Arsenal's wider title race position against Manchester City, and honest discussion about whether perfection from here will be enough.A season-defining win, rising tension, and four matches left.
Arsenal return to the Emirates for what is framed as “game one of five,” with the title race entering its decisive stretch. With Manchester City moving ahead on goals scored, the context is clear: results are now everything, but the debate remains around how Arsenal should approach these final matches. The episode opens with a look at the weekend's Premier League fixtures, including Sunderland vs Nottingham Forest and Wolves vs Tottenham, before attention turns fully to Arsenal's clash with Newcastle. The discussion sets the stakes around form, league position, and the pressure building on both sides heading into the fixture.Focus then shifts to the title race dynamic, including the impact of Manchester City's narrow win at Burnley and the implications for goal difference. From there, the hosts explore two contrasting tactical approaches — whether Arsenal should prioritise control and simply secure wins, or adopt a more aggressive, attacking mindset to maximise goal output.Team news and availability are assessed in detail, with injuries and doubts affecting both squads. Newcastle's absentees are outlined alongside Arsenal's ongoing concerns, including key players nearing returns and how that may shape selection decisions. The conversation moves into a detailed lineup debate, with particular attention on the right wing and left wing roles, and how Arsenal can best structure their attack. Kai Havertz's role is examined closely, including the argument for his importance across the remaining fixtures, while wider discussion considers attacking output, squad balance, and the impact of personnel on overall system performance. There is also a deeper look at Arsenal's pressing structure, highlighting the roles of Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice in regaining control higher up the pitch, as well as how build-up play has been affected by absences in key areas such as fullback. The episode closes with reflections on what Arsenal need to deliver in this match, followed by an update on Mikel Merino's recovery timeline and whether he could feature again before the end of the season. One game at a time — the run-in starts here.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(00:18) - Show Overview & Newcastle Preview Setup(00:55) - Farewell Liam(01:48) - Who Am I Game(03:44) - Predictions Game: Sunderland vs Nottingham Forest(06:18) - Wolves vs Tottenham(09:49) - Arsenal vs Newcastle: Match Context & Stakes(11:17) - Title Race Pressure & “Game One of Five”(12:52) - Man City Result & Goal Difference Context(15:30) - Tactical Approach Debate: Control vs Gung Ho(18:33) - Team News: Injuries & Newcastle Absentees(21:04) - Lineup Debate: Right Wing Options(25:19) - Havertz Role & Must-Start Argument(27:44) - Left Wing Debate: Eze, Trossard & Jesus Options(31:15) - Squad Structure & Attacking Output Concerns(33:51) - System vs Personnel: Getting Best Players on Pitch(35:48) - Timber, Calafiori & Build-Up Importance(38:54) - Newcastle Links & Transfer Discussion(41:46) - Pressing Structure: Ødegaard, Havertz & Rice Roles(44:02) - Declan Rice Role & Final Third Impact(45:43) - Closing Thoughts & Match Expectations(46:17) - Merino Injury Update Discussion(48:27) - Outro

In this episode we look back at Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Man City at the Etihad. There was some encouragement from the performance, although the result means the two sides will have to go neck and neck towards the finish line in this title race. We chat about the team Mikel Arteta selected, one which showed some real intent, the two quickfire goals in the first half, Arsenal's missing the chances to go ahead before City took the lead, and the late opportunity for Kai Havertz to nick a point. We also discuss the battle between Gabriel and Erling Haaland who might actually have done us a big favour in that head to head moment, as well as how the table shapes up now, listener questions about goal difference, summer signings, attack influence from full-backs, whether Arsenal can go on and win 5 in a row with the Champions League to contend with too, and lots more.EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/arseblog Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! If you can donate the April fundraiser, the link is here - https://www.justgiving.com/page/avp2026Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsenal's trip to the Etihad ends in defeat — but not in resignation. In this Match Review, the focus begins at a macro level: with five league games remaining and a Champions League semi-final still ahead, the conversation centres on whether the season is still alive. Despite the result, there is a clear sense that belief remains — shaped not just by the table, but by what was seen in the performance. The episode moves into the match itself, starting with Arsenal's aggressive opening and willingness to press high at the Etihad. The early control, the familiar setback of conceding first, and the immediate response through Kai Havertz are all explored, alongside the impact of having Martin Ødegaard and Havertz back in their natural roles. From there, the discussion tracks the flow of the game: key duels across the pitch, the physical battle with Erling Haaland, and the officiating line that allowed contact-heavy moments to develop. Individual performances are assessed within that context, including the defensive resilience in wide areas and the influence — and limitations — in the attacking phase.Attention then turns to the decisive period of the second half. Arsenal's biggest chances, the margins that went against them, and the moments that defined the result are all broken down — including the attacking sequences that could have changed the outcome and the goal that ultimately did.Substitutions and game management form the next phase of analysis, with a detailed look at how changes affected Arsenal's control, attacking threat, and overall structure late in the game. The episode then zooms back out to the season as a whole — identifying the dropped points and moments across the campaign that have shaped the current title race situation, rather than isolating this result alone. To close, the conversation returns to what lies ahead: the title race dynamics, goal difference implications, returning players, and the possibility of carrying this level of performance into both the league run-in and the Champions League.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(00:46) - Match Context & Season Stakes After Manchester City Loss(02:44) - Is the Season Over? Arsenal progress to a second successive Champions League semi-final after navigating a controlled but low-event second leg against Sporting. The episode opens with the context of the tie — a one-goal advantage from the first leg and the pressure attached to seeing the job through at the Emirates. The conversation reflects on the necessity of progression given recent domestic results, before moving into a measured assessment of the performance itself — balanced between result and display.Attention then turns to the starting lineup and the continued debate around the front three, with discussion centred on squad availability, limitations in selection, and the management of Kai Havertz across fixtures. The hosts examine the impact of injuries, the absence of key attacking profiles, and how that shapes Arsenal's current attacking ceiling.A statistical breakdown frames the match before the conversation shifts to the broader significance of reaching back-to-back semi-finals — placing the achievement within both club history and wider English club context. From there, the episode explores the disconnect between fan sentiment and the scale of the achievement, including the role of media narratives and their impact on perception inside and outside the club.Tactically, the discussion focuses on Arsenal's build-up structure, including David Raya's role in progression, midfield responsibility, and the limitations of the current forward line in retaining possession. Individual performances are assessed, with particular attention on Gabriel Martinelli's contribution across both phases. The episode then expands outward to cover the wider Champions League landscape, including performances from PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, before examining structural differences across leagues — from defensive standards to fixture load and scheduling.Looking ahead, the semi-final against Atlético Madrid is introduced, including discussion around the importance of leg order and the potential advantage of playing the second leg at home. The final section addresses Arsenal's injury outlook, the physical demands on the squad, and the broader context of player availability heading into the decisive stage of the season. The episode closes with a measured assessment of Arsenal's current level, and whether attacking output can improve as key players return and minutes are managed more aggressively.Second successive semi-final. In this episode I'm joined first by Andrew Allen in my Lisbon hotel room to chat about Arsenal's 1-0 win over Sporting on Tuesday evening. We discuss the team line-up, a first half that wasn't exactly replete with chances but which saw the Gunners rediscover some of their identity after a shaky start and a big moment from David Raya. There were second half changes, more great goalkeeping, and as the game looked like it was headed for a draw, a fantastic goal cooked up by Gabriel Martinelli and finished by Kai Havertz won us the game. We also talk about Raya as a potential player of the season, the Martinelli in Europe v Martinelli in the Premier League, how the team needed that big moment after recent defeats, the prospect of another Champions League semi-final, the match-day experience in the stands, and more.EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/arseblog Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! If you can donate the April fundraiser, the link is here - https://www.justgiving.com/page/avp2026 Hosted on Acast. In this episode I'm joined first by Lewis Ambrose to discuss the Arsenal players who went away during the Interlull, and how that might benefit them and us. We start with Viktor Gyokeres whose goals helped fire Sweden to the World Cup, before the focus turns to Kai Havertz and Ben White who both got well-needed minutes for Germany and England. Then we discuss some of the media spotlight on White, and how dishonest the reaction has been to the Arsenal players who either didn't go away at all or withdrew from international duty, before we look ahead to the FA Cup quarter-final with Southampton on Saturday evening. After that, I chat to Elliot Smith from ArsenalVision Podcast about the April fundraiser for the Arsenal Foundation, the incredible work it helps fund, and give you details of Arseblog's own charity drive for the month of April.EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/arseblog Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee! If you can donate the April fundraiser, the link is here - https://www.justgiving.com/page/avp2026Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. In this episode we look back on Sunday's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Man City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. We start with discussion of team selection informed by injury, the early chances for Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, and the way the dynamic of the game potentially changed after the Piero Hincapie yellow card. Arsenal struggled to deal with City's tactical set-up, which leads to a discussion about Mikel Arteta's decision to start Kepa over David Raya. There's focus on the keeper after his big mistake, but were we also impacted by the drop off between him and Raya with the ball at his feet? That goalkeeper decision comes under real scrutiny as Arteta gave into sentiment, which is not really like him, before we examine both goals we conceded and our difficulties at the other end. We also talk about how it's ok to feel annoyed at losing a final even if we have lots more to play for, and there are listener questions about number 2 keepers in general, Rice and Zubimendi, Bukayo Saka, and lots more besides.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. In this episode we look back on Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton, beginning with discussion of a first half that saw the visitors come closest to scoring, although Arsenal were denied what was an obvious penalty when Kai Havertz was fouled in their box. The Gunners tried hard but found it tough to break down obstinate opposition, before Viktor Gyokeres put us ahead in the 89th minute. Max Dowman played a big part in that opening goal, and then produced something very special to seal the game and become the youngest goalscorer for Arsenal, and in Premier League history. We discuss that incredible moment, the replays, the videos, the reactions, and lots more, as well as analysing Mikel Arteta's decision to pick him ahead of senior players, and what it all means in the title race. We then have listener questions about Dowman's involvement going forward, Eberechi Eze, the manager's sideline reactions during a tense game, whether the team needed this kind of emotional release, and lots more besides.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblogAlso, if you're a fan of the show, please leave us a rating/review on your favourite podcast app, it'd be greatly appreciated! In this episode I'm joined first by Kaya Kaynak to talk about Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening. We discuss team selection, the early yellow card for Robert Andrich and a potential second, Gabriel Martinelli hitting the bar, and falling behind early in the second half to a set-piece goal. We also touch on Bukayo Saka's struggles, his replacement by Noni Madueke and the impact that sub made as he won the penalty from which Kai Havertz equalised. As well as that we chat about the opposition approach, our continued issues against low-block sides, whether full backs are the ideal players to have in attacking positions, the week that English clubs have had generally in Europe, and lots more.Find Mark Bullen's St Totteringham's Day print here – https://www.markbullenstudio.com/st-totteringhams-day – and you can use the code SPURSY at checkout for a 15% discount on any purchase between now and the end of the season.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast.
