The Blues secured their fifth away victory since  the Glaswegian returned to Goodison Park thanks to Carlos Alcaraz's second half header to spoil the Magpies Champions League party while in the face of his usual barracking from the Toon Army, Jordan Pickford rammed the taunts down his North East rivals' throats with another masterclass in goal. Everton's record-breaking wait for a Premier League win at Stamford Bridge continues as they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the west London sunshine. Nicolas Jackson struck the only goal of the contest on 27 minutes when Beto gave up possession cheaply and the Senegal international striker struck a low drive beyond Jordan Pickford. Although the hosts threatened to run riot at that time having dominated the first half, David Moyes' men, playing their first fixture after their Premier League status had been secured for next season improved as the contest wore on. Abdoulaye Doucoure should have done better with a header just before the break while both Beto and substitute Dwight McNeil were denied in the second half as the visitors searched in vain for an equaliser. Richard Lee returns to the fold to talk about the steadiness of Bernd Leno as a Premier League goalkeeper, the bit-between-his-teethness of Dean Henderson and 100 in succession for Jordan Pickford. In the Championship, Karl Darlow was finally given the nod ahead of Illan Meslier as Leeds were held at Luton, while Max Crocombe was the subject of a dubious penalty awarded to Wrexham and Wyll Stanway bagged an MOM in a rare start for Barrow. A nod to Andy Fisher and Rohan Luthra, too, as both excelled on loans at St Johnstone and Spennymoor respectively.

Goodison Park was a tense battle as Arsenal almost left with a win; instead ended in 1-1 draw against Everton in their final trip to the historic ground.  Trossard's clinical finish gave Arsenal first-half lead, but Ndiaye's controversial penalty early in the second half ensured the points were shared. This match was a tale of sustaining dominance from Everton's pressure, marred by questionable officiating and missed opportunities.Arsenal started brightly and dictating play with a heavily rotated lineup. Raheem Sterling's pace and drive, set up Trossard's opener—showing composure and precision. However, Everton's physicality and defensive resilience kept Arsenal from extending their lead before halftime. The second half began with drama as Myles Lewis-Skelly was adjudged to have fouled Jack Harrison in the box—a decision that is ridiculously wrong. Ndiaye converted from the spot so that was a gift to Everton. Despite introducing Saka and Martinelli, Arsenal struggled to break down Everton's defensive block, with Jordan Pickford making crucial saves to deny Declan Rice and Martinelli.Given the heavy rotation, there's more to appreciate than worry. Sadly, as Premier League officiating…. We take the draw and now we turn our attention to Champions League clash with Real Madrid. Arsenal! Arsenal! We move!

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Broadcaster Russ Williams, Football Finance Expert Adam Osper and Patrick Tyrant as Everton started the road to recovery under returning manager David Moyes and piled more pressure on his struggling Tottenham counterpart Ange Postecoglou with an impressive victory at Goodison Park. Spurs were shambolic for long periods as they were overrun by a resurgent Everton, who had won only three Premier League matches this season - scoring 15 goals - before this game. Everton deservedly led 3-0 at the interval, then survived a late Spurs revival as the scoreline was given an appearance that did not reflect the difference between the sides. With the stakes high for both teams, Everton brushed Spurs aside in the opening period, building the platform for a win that condemned Postecoglou's men to a seventh defeat in their past 10 league games. Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended a barren Premier League scoring sequence stretching back to September - and lasting 1,288 minutes - when he turned Archie Gray twice in the area before leaving Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky wrong-footed with a smart finish. Son Heung-min was denied twice by Jordan Pickford but it was Everton, unrecognisable from the goal-shy team seen previously this season, who added a second on the half-hour when Iliman Ndiaye twisted Radu Dragusin inside out before firing high past Kinsky. Everton compounded Spurs' misery in first-half stoppage time when Gray turned into his own net after James Tarkowski's header took a touch off Calvert-Lewin. Spurs, as they had to do, improved after the break and pulled a goal back through Dejan Kulusevski's clever lofted finish with 13 minutes left, with former Everton striker Richarlison increasing the nerves by bundling home in injury time. But the hosts held out for a deserved win on a day to savour for the returning Moyes. Jim Boardman and Jay Reid are back to discuss the latest goings-on in and around Anfield, including the local reaction to the derby that didn't go on. Also this week: the win against Gerona, the return of Alisson Becker, the future of Darwin Nunez, a look ahead to Fulham and then Southampton, a referee gets sacked and English football finally notices that Arne Slot exists. The derby didn't go ahead, because of the threat to safety posed by Storm Darragh, a decision made after consultations between the clubs, the council and the police. Of course not everyone across the park sees it that way… Having had a bit more rest than expected Arne Slot's side travelled to face Gerona in the Champions League, yet didn't exactly look like a side benefiting from the extra time off. What was described by many as a game of basketball did end with Liverpool gaining all three points, courtesy of Mo Salah converting the penalty won by Luis Diaz, so no real harm done and plenty to learn from. One big learning point was being reminded just how good a keeper Ali is, the first choice keeper back after injury and given no easy ride. As Jay and Jim point out, it's not being critical of Kelleher to say he's not as good as the main man, because few if any are anywhere near that good. It was also another chance for Darwin Nunez to stake his claim for a place as a regular starter. With Jota on the verge of a return and Chiesa not too far behind, it could be one of his last chances for a while, but taking chances isn't exactly his strong point at the moment. Is the criticism of Darwin a bit over the top, given all the other stuff he does when he isn't trying to score, or is it justified for a player wearing that Liverpool No.9 shirt and costing what he did? The mark of Everton never seems too far away in football these days, and Liverpool's next match sees them face another side whose boss used to be at Everton. Fulham's Marco Silva became the boss at Goodison a couple of years after beating Liverpool as manager of Hull, but that's probably just a coincidence and didn't even get a mention when the Blues were looking for a new boss at the time. Nowadays he's managing a Fulham side that was involved in one of the worst yet best Anfield games last season, the 4-3 win for the Reds after going 3-2 down. They are a side that can cause Liverpool problems, especially at their own place, but this is Anfield! It was for the 4-3 though… News this week that David Coote had been sacked by the PGMOL following the release of a video that suggested he didn't really like Liverpool or their former manager Jurgen Klopp. Coote had been on VAR for the derby that saw, amongst other things, Jordan Pickford go unpunished for a challenge on Virgil Van Dijk that could have been career ending and certainly put him out for a lengthy period. There are many more to mention, and questions have to be asked of PGMOL about how rife this level of apparent bias might be. Questions that won't be answered of course. Jacob Whitehead returns as the black sheep of the podcast, now a sworn enemy deep into 'Everton week'. Two draws, several missed penalties, and a bit of "pageantry" has been and gone, and we're all none the wiser. Who will be wearing opposition colours at the live show later this week?!Eddie Howe's men dominated possession, inevitably, at Goodison Park and had some chances (albeit not as many as they perhaps should), but Jordan Pickford's penalty save and some profligacy put paid to our chances of a win on the road.Langley's lasses got a well-earned point in the league cup in midweek (there was a penalty shoot-out which didn't matter) and then in the Championship Durham were the visitors for our first of two local derbies. A hard-fought, high octane contest ended in heartbreak as Durham nicked it at the death. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Only two games into the Premier League campaign and we already have a Save of the Season contender. David Raya earned three points for Arsenal with his stop from Ollie Watkins at Villa Park. Not only did it banish the demons from the title-denting defeat of last term, but it served as yet another reminder that the Spaniard is at the very top of his game right now. Two contests come in the form of 'Keeper Capers and Top Tips Over throughout all four tiers, both of which we saw on multiple occasions over the weekend. Jordan Pickford and Aro Muric guilty of the former in the top-flight, but Muric also involved in the latter with a marvellous stop from Erling Haaland as Ipswich fell to Man City. Robert Sanchez raised his stock with Chelsea fans thanks to quick thinking and excellent execution in helping to set up Cole Palmer for the Blues' second in the 6-2 romp of Wolves, and Neto seemed to be a counterattack-thwarting target for Newcastle as they held Bournemouth at the Vitality. Penalty stops from Joe Whitworth and Luke McGee should be noted, as should Conor Hazard's MOM performance for Plymouth in their draw at QPR.

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Russ Williams, Mitch Fretton and Marlon via Spurs Kings TV as Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham comfortably brushed aside a lacklustre Everton side to notch up their first Premier League win of the season. Tottenham peppered the Everton goal straight from kick-off and their early intensity was quickly rewarded. A stylish move on the edge of the box culminated in Dejan Kulusevski cutting inside to tee up Yves Bissouma, whose crisp shot struck the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was punished for dawdling on the ball shortly afterwards when Son stole it off the England number one and slotted into a vacant goal. Cristian Romero headed in Tottenham's third from a corner after the break when he outmuscled James Tarkowski and Michael Keane to head in James Maddison's pinpoint inswinger. Spurs skipper Son put the gloss on the result 13 minutes from time with a low angled finish through Pickford's legs after Micky van de Ven's enterprising run from one penalty box to the other. The Toffees go into this season having had two attempted club Takeovers collapse and it's to be their final campaign at Goodison Park. What would constitute making their final season at their current home a success? Does it need to be more than just survival? There will be interest in Everton defensive assets but Jordan Pickford, Jarrod Branthwaite and James Tarkowski are now 5.0. Should managers look at a 4.5 alternative for coverage? Plus, there's discussion on Everton's new signings and whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin can be relied upon to lead the line on a consistent basis.
