Even if you've never tried to meditate, this is one for everyone to sit back and enjoy. You can practice this “Power of Positive Change” meditation from Crossover psychologist Matthew Chester, PhD when life feels overwhelming. Yes, it's easy to dive into a quick fix or temporary distraction, but these so-called “fixes” can soon pile up into a stack of unhealthy habits —like, smoking, alcohol or drug overuse, exercising less, eating more, or swiping and scrolling for hours. The more we try to cover up the chaos, the less able we are to truly connect—not only with ourselves but with the people in our lives. And, what's even more exhausting is the thought of having to change everything at once. So, instead of thinking about a total reset, this meditation is about the idea of making just one positive change, and then watching other things get better as a result. Connect with us!Crossover: Memberships available at crossoverhealth.com Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn: @crossoverhealthLinkedIn: Daniel Lord, DC CCSP

Targeting Tension Headaches (with Dr. Elizabeth Moos, Chiropractor)

With the majority of adults experiencing annoying headaches from time to time, we wanted to uncover the possible reasons (stress, food, posture, sleep, vision, and more) for these painful episodes with chiropractor, Elizabeth Moos, DC. While most headaches are likely benign, they may be relieved by safely working the soft tissue in your neck and targeting the pain with stretching. To prevent them from coming back, it's important to isolate the cause and adjust the behaviors or environment which cause tension headaches. Crossover chiropractors work within a team of physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists and mental health experts to differentiate all the types of headaches, find out the triggers, and provide relief. Follow along with Liz's instructions for an on-the-spot posture releasing tip. Dan also gets the 411 on Liz's podcast crush, how she satisfies her sweet tooth, and her own daily secret headache prevention technique (duh, it's so obvious!). #BeWellWednesday Mentioned:Brugger's Relief PositionIntegrated Physical Medicine at Employer-Sponsored Health Clinics Improves Quality of Care at Reduced CostConnect with us!Crossover: Memberships available at crossoverhealth.com Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn: @crossoverhealthLinkedIn: Daniel Lord, DC CCSP

Why are men putting off routine checkups and delaying seeing a healthcare provider for symptoms of a health problem? In this episode, Dan called Crossover's Dr. John Abano to the studio to find out. John is a huge advocate for improving access and awareness for men's health (from the US to Haiti to the Philippines)—which makes us a huge fan of John. While erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, or decreased libido are something men don't like to talk about, John says that these issues could be signs of more serious health problems that need to be caught sooner than later. Gentlemen (and ladies!), get the 411 on how men's lifestyle choices and regular physician interaction can improve these common health concerns. Beyond just sexual performance issues, the bigger picture of physical (heart health, sleep apnea, diabetes) and mental health (depression) need treatment.Stick to the end to hear John's rapid fire responses on his current podcast binge (read: male contraceptives), why he is “stressing less” to improve his overall health (“easier said than done”), and his (not so guilty) guilty pleasure (plus, his plea to Apple for help).Connect with us!Crossover: Memberships available at crossoverhealth.com Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn: @crossoverhealthLinkedIn: Daniel Lord, DC CCSP

In this Be Well episode, Dan gets Danielle, Crossover's Health Coach Program Manager, to boil down the best strategy for getting people what they want in terms of eating healthy. Relationship with food—aka mindful eating (“sounds squishy”)—is at the core of making a sustainable change to eating in a certain way. She explains how a health coach dives into all of this with expertise as a co-pilot with the member as the driver. How to Avoid Running Into A Wall (with Matt DeBole, DPT, Physical Therapist)

Running may have gotten an unfair bad rap because it has been used as a “form of punishment” for fitness or sport and “exists as a necessary evil.” So, Dan and Scott called upon Matt DeBole, running coach, physical therapist, and Crossover's Physical Medicine Program Manager, to share some of his secrets.Matt exposes the most critical (and neglected) component of running when it comes to preventing injuries...hint: it's not your fancy shoes or stretching. Elite runners have a personalized structure for their training—they limit themselves when their body needs it—and beginners should follow that lead even though it's sometimes hard to check your ego and start slow (or not keep up with the neighborhood running club). Matt explains that creating a program that helps you build a routine and start gradually is the best way to get started and to make running feel more enjoyable. Running “nerds” will love hanging with Matt on this podcast too.Stick around to the end to hear his music of choice on his runs, and how a single “defining moment” question started Matt on his path to physical therapy.
