In this enlightening episode, Katie O'Malley offers her insights as a counsellor who has worked with MBA students and empowers minorities in the workplace. She introduces ideas from counselling to coach clients on their authentic career paths and be more courageous in workplace cultures. Katie is a board-certified coach with a master's degree in counselling. She's a career coach and workplace strategist with 15 years of professional experience serving the nonprofit, corporate, and educational sectors. Since 2018, Katie has worked alongside more than 200 clients as the CEO and principal coach of (en)Courage Coaching, founded on a mission to elevate more women, people of colour, and LGBTQ+ folks to the rooms where decisions are made. Key Topics Lego Serious Play: People are intrinsically tied to their identity; some are fearful or opposed to new ideas that mess with their familiarity. A great way to introduce new ideas is by stacking the new ones with what they identify or are familiar with, much like different legos stacked onto each other. Profit Follows Leadership: Investing in leadership development and education creates more business leaders who are self-aware, accountable, and responsible in the workplace. Non-maleficence in Leadership: Non-maleficence–often used in counselling–is the principle of causing no harm to clients and making them feel safe. Leadership must also reflect on non-maleficence to encourage operating from a place of consistency and authenticity. Life-Changing Question: Katie asks herself and her clients, “What is the next best step you can take?” Focusing on an overall goal and aspiration can help one progress and look back at their struggles with confidence. The beginning of a new year brings with it time for reflection and the renewal of rituals. We reflect on our personal and professional lives, set goals for the coming year, and start sprinting towards those goals – hopefully with enough time to calibrate our personal GPS. One part of the ritualistic sprint is conference season. Industry leaders gather at Davos for the World Economic Forum and Miami for iConnections Global Alts in January, in Beverly Hills for Milken in May, in Sun Valley for Allen & Company in the summer, and at many locations throughout the year. We'll be doing the same at our Capital Allocators CIO Summit in April, Senior Decision Makers Summit in June, Capital Allocators University in July, and Small and Emerging Manager Summit in September. So as you get ready to leave the starting blocks, it's a good time to pause and think about how to optimize your time and budget at industry events. At Capital Allocators University in December, Hank hosted a panel with Ron Biscardi and Katie O'Reilly to discuss how to think about, plan, and maximize your time and value at conferences. Today's show shares their panel discussion from Capital Allocators University. I met up with Brendan Johnson - guitarist and primary songwriter of Stella Ruze, a band that he started in 2014 with vocalist / mandolin player Katie O' Donnell, keyboardist Mason Hunter, and trumpet player Alex Styer. In the ten years the band has been together, their sound has evolved past early comparisons to The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons to a more complex marriage of modern folk melodicism and jam band experimentation, dropping beautifully melodic gems with four-part vocal harmonies that can morph into psychedelic instrumental odysseys at any moment.Celebrating their tenth year as a band, Stella Ruze has spent much of 2024 navigating all the pivots and adjustments that come with sticking around for a decade. Personnel changes and realignments are part of the deal, but through all that they completed their third studio album - “Origin” - and are doing what they need to do to “keep the train on the tracks.” Do yourself a favor and GO see this band at their album release party for “Origin” at Ardmore Music Hall on 12/21/24. Appearing with them will be fellow Philly folk mainstays Hezekiah Jones and Brittany Ann Tranbaugh.I hope you enjoy my conversation with Brendan. He's a thoughtful, kind, and curious person. And a pretty damn talented one at that!~ JKF ❤️

So... what do 5G microwaves, a clothing line made of tin foil, and a bunch of confiscated dildos have in common? Is this even a spiritual podcast anymore? Wtf am I listening to?We're back on our bullshit. In this Serendipity Session, we dive headfirst into the absurd, the spiritual, and the conspiratorial. Eyebrows will be raised, but we don't give a fuck. We cover everything from M.I.A.'s new anti-5G fashion line (because, apparently, 5G protection is high fashion now), to P. Diddy's arrest and the authorities' peculiar discovery of his, um, adult extracurricular props. But wait, there's more! Along the way, we talk about the dangers of TikTok baby witches casting spells like it's a high school chemistry experiment, and we go off on white girls who jump into spirituality with no shame about colonizing closed spiritual practices from other cultures. We discuss the philosophical Ship of Theseus (because, duh, you need to learn something esoteric in every episode). And we also explore the weird dynamics that arise when spiritual readers try to read for other spiritual readers (spoiler alert: it doesn't always go well). If you're in the mood for some Clairannoyance chaos mixed with on-the-spot spiritual insights, you've landed on the right episode. If you're looking for something else... then go listen to our 60 other episodes. Also, go rate us 5 stars. Unlike our subject-specific deep dives and guest interview episodes, The Serendipity Sessions is a raw reflection of the genuine bond we share. We have no rules and no episode notes in advance, just a free-flowing exchange of thoughts and emotions. It's an exploration of the outer banks of consciousness where untamed treasures are hidden away. We believe one sudden insight can hold immense value, far beyond most meticulously planned discussions. Each session is a unique encounter with chance as we defy routine and enjoy a spontaneous dance with spirituality. Venture into the heart of vulnerability and faith in this enlightening episode of Unholy Union. Lindz and Russ sit down with Reverend Katie O'Dunne, a beacon of hope for those entwined in the struggle between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and their spiritual beliefs. Katie, the founder of Faith and Mental Health Integrative Services, shares her intimate journey from the crippling grip of undiagnosed OCD to becoming a champion for evidence-based treatment within faith traditions. As a chaplain grappling with the paradox of her own mental health and her role as a spiritual guide, Katie's story unveils the harsh realities of religious stigma against mental illness and the liberating path to reclaiming one's faith through acceptance and therapy. They discuss the nuances of religious scrupulosity, the subtype of OCD that entangles the devout in a web of fear and compulsion, and the challenge of distinguishing devout practices from the disorder's deceptive whispers.Katie's dual identity as an ordained minister and an advocate for OCD awareness sheds light on the critical need for culturally sensitive approaches to treatment. She emphasizes the power of "sticking with the ick" – embracing the discomfort of intrusive thoughts to move towards healing and personal values. In a turn towards the extraordinary, Katie reveals her ambitious quest: tackling 50 ultramarathons to raise funds and awareness for OCD treatment—one state at a time. Her upcoming iOS app, "Stick with the Ick," promises to be a sanctuary for those seeking support in their darkest hours.Whether you're seeking solace in spirituality, battling the shadows of mental health, or simply yearning for a story of triumph over adversity, join Lindz and Russ for a conversation that transcends the boundaries of mind and spirit.---Guest Info:Reverend Katie O'DunneWebsiteInstagramIOCDF Faith & OCD Resource Page - https://iocdf.org/faith-ocd/IOCDF Faith & OCD ConferenceIOCDF Provider Directory - https://iocdf.org/find-help/Stick with the Ick Community Launch Updates - https://www.revkatieodunne.com/stickwiththeick ---Timestamps:(00:02:08) Reverend Katie O'Dunne shares her personal journey with OCD and how it led her to her work in faith and mental health.(00:09:42) The stigma of mental health in religious communities and the importance of seeking treatment.(00:19:14) The challenges of navigating ERP therapy within religious practices and finding a balance between discomfort and disrespect.(00:42:27) Discussion about the upcoming iOS app for faith in OCD(00:43:26) Importance of running toward one's values(00:45:06) What Katie would do if they won $10,000,000 ---Want more of the show? As libraries change to meet the needs of their communities, these public spaces are seeing their services expand in different ways. For some, it’s the growth of children’s areas and play spaces. But how do libraries plan for these spaces and what does it take to make libraries a welcoming place for all ages? Several Multnomah County libraries are currently under renovation, with some opening as early as this summer. Some of these renovations include expanding children’s areas and having an outdoor play space. The Spokane Public Library opened new children’s play spaces in six of its libraries in 2021 and 2022. Joining us for a discussion about the growth of children’s areas in libraries are: Jennifer Studebaker, Multnomah County library community services director for children; Katie O’Dell, Multnomah County deputy director of library building projects; and Jennifer Studebaker, Spokane Public Library director of marketing and communications.

Jane Goodall has been called the Mother Theresa of our environment. She has spent the last 60 years dedicated to protecting chimpanzees in the wild. Recently, Matt and his wife Katie had the opportunity to meet with Jane and ask her questions about making the world a better place. Jane shared stories about how her mother encouraged her to be curious and didn't punish her for wanting to understand how the world worked, even when it got Jane into trouble. Matt and Katie share how these insights have shaped the way they wish to raise their four children. Jane's message to Matt and Katie was also about hope for a bright future for the planet, but only if we act with urgency to address the issues facing all of us. Tune in to learn simple actions you and your family can take to help to protect the Earth. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: The power of curiosity and exploration Supporting your kids' dreams and passions Showing up for family through difficult circumstances The importance of patience and understanding in parenting Jane Goodall's groundbreaking chimpanzee research and environmental activism [02:56] Lessons From Her Mom Jane Goodall's mother played a pivotal role in shaping her future as a renowned conservationist. She fostered Jane's curiosity, even when it led to minor inconveniences, and always encouraged exploration. She backed Jane's dreams, no matter how improbable they seemed, and never let fear of danger or inconvenience stifle her daughter's curiosity. Through thick and thin, she showed unwavering support, even accompanying Jane to Africa to live in an army tent. This nurturing environment cultivated Jane's enduring love for nature and animals, ultimately fueling her groundbreaking career in conservation. [09:22] The Importance of Patience and Understanding in Parenting In our fast-paced lives, it's crucial to slow down and fully comprehend the moments we're experiencing, especially with our children. Caught in the whirlwind of life, Katie recently found herself profoundly affected by Jane's message, urging her to slow down and appreciate the present. She realized the potential harm in hastily reprimanding children during their moments of curiosity and exploration. These instances, though seemingly insignificant, are crucial to their growth, and this has prompted Katie to adopt a more patient and understanding approach towards parenting. [21:32] The Interconnectedness of Everything Before Jane Goodall, the prevailing philosophy separated humans from the rest of nature. However, Goodall revolutionized this belief by promoting the concept of interconnectedness. She observed that humans, animals, and the environment are not distinct entities, but rather parts of a greater whole. Drawing parallels with Buddha's teachings, Goodall emphasized that the survival and prosperity of humans are intrinsically linked to the health of the animal kingdom and the planet itself. Notable quotes: [09:37] Any little situation or anytime we get upset with the children or fuss at them, we could be having some negative consequences. [09:44] [22:00] We can't thrive if the animal world is dying. We can't thrive if the planet is dying. On December 17, 2005, 44-year-old Katie O'Shea flew to North Queensland, Australia, with her 11-year-old daughter. They were going to visit Katie's oldest son Alan and his partner, who were expecting a child in early January. But when the baby was born on January 9, Katie wasn't there. According to her daughter Lily, this was completely unlike Katie, who was a doting mother - she lived for her children and would never miss the birth of her first grandchild. Four days later, on January 13, Alan reported Katie missing. He told police he last saw her on December 29, when he dropped her off on a street in Atherton. He said she had plans to go to a pub and play pool, then go visit her friend in a nearby town. But when investigators began re-tracing Katie's steps, they discovered that she never made it to her planned destination. At the time of her disappearance, Katie was described as standing 171cm (or five feet, seven inches) tall with a slim build. Katie has green eyes, long brown hair, and a tanned complexion. Katie was last seen wearing a short skirt with a button-up shirt and carrying a large red handbag with brown straps.
