In questo scambio silenzioso si gioca una domanda decisiva: quanto la moda disciplina i corpi? E quanta libertà, invece, offre a ciascuno di noi per raccontarsi? Un saggio imprescindibile che ci insegna a guardare i vestiti non solo per come ci stanno, ma per ciò che ci chiedono di diventare. Perché ogni abito non copre soltanto un corpo. Dice chi siamo e chi decidiamo di essere.Che cosa accade quando la moda incontra il corpo? È attorno a questa domanda che si sviluppa la riflessione di Maria Luisa Frisa, tra le voci più autorevoli della cultura italiana della moda: un invito a riconoscere negli abiti non oggetti frivoli, ma dispositivi culturali capaci di generare identità, desideri e immaginari. Tra passerelle e atelier, pagine di riviste, manichini e cartamodelli, prende così forma il racconto sorprendente di una corporeità costantemente progettata e ripensata dalla moda. È il corpo «astratto» delle modelle, sospeso tra standardizzazione e singolarità; il corpo maschile ridefinito dalle rivoluzioni stilistiche di Armani e Versace; sono i corpi pop dei red carpet e quelli vulnerabili che si espongono attraverso lo schermo degli smartphone. Ma è anche, e soprattutto, il corpo quotidiano, quello che ogni mattina si misura allo specchio nel gesto insieme semplice e decisivo di scegliere cosa indossare. Attorno a questo gesto si dispiega un sistema di segni e strumenti – taglie, silhouette, zone erogene mutevoli, trucco come maschera o come atto di libertà – che mostra come il corpo non sia mai dato una volta per tutte, ma continuamente negoziato e riscritto. Sanya Kantarovsky talks to Ben Luke about his influences—from writers to musicians, and, of course, other artists—and the cultural experiences that have shaped his life and work. Kantarovsky was born in Moscow in 1982 and emigrated to to Providence, Rhode Island, when he was ten years old. He lives and works in New York City today. His paintings present scenarios that are at once arresting and alluring. Notionally figurative, they reflect an elastic notion of how the body might be represented through paint, as figures appear in unlikely juxtaposition with other bodies and beings—even morphing into plant or animal forms—and occupy landscapes and spaces that are always infused with atmosphere and often potent with threat. Sanya regularly uses the term ostranenija, a word in his native Russia that means “making strange”, as a guiding principle. Encountering his art, one is aware of one's own role in continuing that process: how, after slow-looking, they only grow in complexity. And that richness absorbs many moods and registers, from brutality and solemnity to absurdity and out-and-out humour. He discusses the profound effect of his early access to the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and particularly Picasso's painting Girl on Ball (1905). He reflects on the influence of a huge breadth of historic painters, including Francisco de Goya, Giorgio de Chirico and Philip Guston, discusses his respect for a number of contemporary artists including Trisha Donnelly and Charline von Heyl, and talks about the significance of a number of figures from other disciplines on his work, from the poet Anna Akhmatova and the choreographer Tatsumi Hijikata to the filmmaker Andrei Tarkovksy. Nelle corti rinascimentali la profetessa di corte finisce per sostituire l'astrologo, offrendo ai “principi nuovi” una legittimazione carismatica e popolare. The best stories are the ones that take you on an unforgettable ride. You go tumbling through places you have never been before, taking turns between belief and disbelief, pausing only to admire the leaps of the writer's imagination and coming out at the end chuckling with delight. This is one such story by Nizam Shah. I haven't been able to find much about this writer. Google doesn't reveal much as his is a common name (much like Arti). I gather from the text that he was writing in pre-independence India. Las Declaraciones Oficiales 1 y 2 anunciaron esa clase de revelación: una llevó a poner fin a la práctica del matrimonio plural, y la otra puso las bendiciones del sacerdocio al alcance de las personas de todas las razas. Cambios como esos son parte de lo que significa tener una “iglesia verdadera y viviente” (Doctrina y Convenios 1:30), con un profeta verdadero y viviente, y guiada por el Dios verdadero y viviente. Pero la verdad eterna no cambia, aunque nuestra comprensión de ella sí lo haga. Y a veces, la revelación arroja luz adicional sobre la verdad. On September 27, 2025 we met up at Pilsen Community Books with Aaron Hughes and Arti Walker-Peddakotla of About Face: Veterans Against the War, a dynamic and powerful group involved in building an irresistible movement for peace and against war and fascism. About Face builds on and highlights the legacy and revolutionary power of GI resistance against the backdrop of military mobilizations to violently suppress people's movements. They walk a difficult and necessary path, organizing inside the military as they support GI resistance and the right to refuse, and outside as they create structures of care and support that prevent enlistment in the imperial death machine in the first place. Their work dances a difficult dialectic as it embraces a fundamental contradiction: confronting and resisting the real harm erupting from the war-makers, and providing paths for radical reorientation for people who (like all of us) can be both perpetrators of harm and victims of a racial capitalist system. They are the authors of a new zine, State Violence, Abolition, and GI Resistance.
