After watching a video on a YouTuber explaining online why he was absent for two years, I had to sit and think on it. Why are we having so many young people having breakdowns and burnout on social media? Why are so many people trying to become Influencers, and why are there no support systems in place for vulnerable people?
Somebody has to talk about it. The #Booktok has been a blessing and a curse to authors everywhere. Let's talk about it.
Tiktok has become the most popular social media site today. Many writers use it to promote their businesses and many book reviewers use it to spread the word of good books. however, what happens when that same system is used to steal books from authors?
Black publishing has gotten better, but we can't lose our vigilance.
With COVID keeping us all inside, we have to ask if writing conferences are relevant anymore.
These last few months have been hard...it's hard to make episodes. But, I made it.
Listen as I talk about the changes to podcasting and authortube. I also dig into the frenemies situation. Podcasting is harder to do and I talk about the struggle of coming up with podcast ideas.
The most important thing a writer has to learn is to able to take criticism and take responsibility for what they say. In the last few weeks, there have been highs and lows in the creative community. The question is..how are we supposed to take criticism?
Fanfiction is a touchy subject for all writers. There are stories about writers, such as Anne Rice, who once threatened a fanfiction site to take her category down or she would sue. But today, we are talking about a hilariously ironic fanfic that managed to break the algorithm. No music accompanying this episode. It was hard to find a good article for Black History Month, and it was hard to put my thoughts into words. Listen to be ramble on for at least 20 minutes.

In 1977, writer Alan Dean Foster wrote the novelization of Star Wars: A New Hope, and many other adaptations such as Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom and Alien. As the years went buy, any book he wrote that got a movie adaptation, he receieved royalties. Now that Disney has bought the rights to many books he has written noelizations for, the royalties has stopped. As I have read this article published by Polygon, Foster is not the only person that has stopped receiving royalties. Disney has a royalties problem. The link to the original Polygon article: https://www.polygon.com/2020/12/16/22166064/star-wars-alien-novelization-disney-royalties-sfwa-alan-dean-foster
In April 2018, a published Author named Addison Cain and her publisher Blusher Books filed a DMCA takedown against another Author named Zoey Ellis, stating she had plagiarized her work. This caused Ellis to lose sales and given the recognition of someone who steals work. In October 2018, Ellis sued Cain and Blusher Books for the loss of revenue and reputation. In 2019, Cain has been released from the lawsuit, but the publisher is still dealing with the lawsuit. Listen as I give criticism over a pretty avoidable situation.
Focusing his the hardest thing to do in our daily lives. We have family, jobs, and life. With Covid-19, despite the isolation, life has become much harder. Listen as I babble about focusing in this episode.

Steven Universe Future ended March 27, 2020. A very popular series on Cartoon Network, the series went through many changes, including emotional tone. Perfect Blue is a perfect anime form the 90s that still has relevancy today. People use the internet daily for little things. Everyone has a persona, especially Youtubers, but what happens when the persona takes over your daily life?
Inspired by Savage Book's video on character development, I decided to make a podcast episode about character development. The final season of Bojack Horseman has a great way of wrapping up each character's personal story. It also comes to light that not everyone needs to have a 'happy ending'. In fact, many readers may not get what they want.Link to Savage books: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXyVz9-w9Ippr-j2Yz4zAcQ/videos
With the latest shows being released, one has to wonder if fandoms have anything to do with the way a story is dictated. There have been various shows such as Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, that has been saturated with fandom. The problem is, there are toxic fandoms out there that can oversaturate and change a story from it's core story, creating a problem.
Through the month of NaNoWriMo, we are busy clicking away to make the 50k! In the meantime, I decided to look into the hype around Hideo Kojima's newest game: Death Stranding. Why are his fans so divided over this game? He is the king of exposition and yes, being weird is part of the process. Watch as I ramble away as I talk about Hideo Kojima.
Antagonists and villains are not the same thing. When writing for NaNoWriMo, it's important to develop who your antagonist and your villain is. Listen as a talk/ramble. Mentions of RWBY, Harry Potter, and other media.
NaNoWriMo is right around the corner and every writer runs to participate. The goal is writing 50k words in 30 days, but not everyone makes it. I have a strange relationship with the event. I like the event, but there are criticisms with the program I would like to talk about.
This is a non-scripted episode, completely off the cuff. Grief is a sad thing to go thorough. When we grow as people, we also have change to come from it. So, how do we write grief? Do we use 'pain points'? Do we listen to sad music? Taking queues from Steven Universe: The Movie, Given (Anime Series), The Hunger Games, and Fruits Basket (Anime), listen and as I ramble off the cuff about grief and loss. Spoilers for Steven Universe: The Movie.
Dreamworks has two shows on Netflix: She-Ra Princess of Powe and Voltron Legendary Defender. Both shows have had intersting romance plotlines, yet one failed where one succeeded. Is romance even needed to make a show good? Listen and find out.
Quentin Tarantino is one of the best filmakers in the United States. His writing style causes a lot of dialogue, and most of his plots are non-linear. As a writer, dialouge is important, but he uses heavy exposition, but we love him. Why? Listen and find out.
With great power comes great responsibility...yet the burden of responsibility is heavy. Peter Parker is Marvel's emotional punching bag. WIth hall the tragedy he goes through, it would be nice if he had a father in his live. However, he keeps losing father figures as well. From the comics to the MCU, listen as I disect his weakness in Spider-Man's life.
Wattpad has become of the largest growing writing platforms on the internet. Many young people are flocking by the millions in order to read a good story. Many often write stories, but only a few make it to monetization and publishing. The ones that make it to the top get published, but it's of less quality than those who have editors looking over their work. So with this writing platform, there is a new generation of writers, but is this a good or a bad thing?
What are writing habits? It's the tricks and tools used by writers every day to perfect their craft. In order to be a better writer, one has to follow some rules in order to be perfect...yeah, no. Not everyone can follow a strict set of rules. Is it truly important to write every day? What about those that have full-time jobs and a busy day? Listen to this episode as I give my opinion.
In celebration of Women's Month, I've done an episode dedicated to Harley Quinn. From her beginnings as henchwoman of Joker to an antivillain in her own right. But, why do we love her so much? At the core of her character is a victim of domestic abuse, but we buy her merchandise. When Suicde Squad came out, we all cheered at Margot Robbie's performace. So what makes her so special? Listen and listen to my character analsysis.
Detroit: Become Human is the newest game created by Quantum Theory. It's the story of three androids who become 'deviant', and how androids everyone wants independence. Two become deviant due to a stressful situation, but the third, becomes deviant by questioning it's programming. In the end, the androids achieve their independence, but it's unrealistic. The series creator didn't want to make a civil rights movement out the story, but he did. The problem is the civil rights implicaitons with no support and no resoultion. Civil rights shuld not be taken lightly, nor should the narrative use weak plots to send an unintentional message, ignoring years of history.
What is a Mary Sue? A perfect character. Listen to be ramble on as I talk about this. The Mary Sue is a rampant problem in the writing community that is effecting all forms of media. No character is meant to be perfect, and when you make them perfect, you make them boring. Even 'perfect superheroes' like Superman have flaws.
Red Dead Redemption 2, created by Rockstar, was a resounding success. From the great music, to the atmosphere, to the great writing, everything was perfect...except it was easy to srangle a lawman or punch my horse. Griping aside, this was a beautifully written story. The greatest person in the story was Arthur Morgan, the protagonist. Listen as I talk about this man's greatest sacrifice, and how he became redeemed.
Netflix's Castlevania Season 2 had given us a lenghty insight on the backstories of every main character and villain. But, there was a consisten focus on the two main males. Alucard Tepes was raised by two loving parents before the tragic death of his mother, while Trevor Belmont had to raise himself alone. So, how are they alike? Listen and find out.
