Il Generale Zhang Youxia, membro del Politburo del Partito Comunista Cinese è uno dei “principini” cinesi, come vengono chiamati i figli e nipoti dei capi rivoluzionari nella Guerra Civile e dei vertici maoisti del partito. Il padre di Zhang aveva combattuto al fianco del padre dell'attuale Presidente Xi Jinping fino alla vittoria nel 1949 che ha portato le forze comuniste di Mao a prendere il potere nella Cina Continentale. La notizia che Zhang potentissimo vicepresidente della Commissione Militare Centrale (il vertice militare della Cina) e un suo collaboratore sono stati arrestati inizialmente per presunte “violazioni della disciplina di partito e di leggi statali” è una bomba epocale di quelle che sconvolgono gli equilibri di potere a Pechino.Per di più è trapelato da fonti ufficiose che Zhang è accusato di aver fornito agli USA segreti sul programma nucleare, di aver preso tangenti per favorire promozioni di ufficiali soprattutto nel settore degli appalti anche durante il suo incarico precedente nella regione militare di Shenyang dal 2007 al 2012. Questo è il caso più eclatante dalla rimozione del Ministro della difesa Li Shangfu nel 2023, ma molto più gravido di conseguenze perché segnala spaccature profonde all'interno dei santuari del potere rosso. Inoltre con questa mossa Xi fa capire che la corruzione , il clientelismo e la vendita di informazioni agli USA saranno punite senza pietà per nessuno perché rappresentano minacce esistenziali al suo obiettivo di ottenere il controllo su Taiwan. Un'altra puntata in inglese con due ospiti eccezionali: John Cochrane e Hanno Lustig. Parliamo del libro "Crisis Cycle: Challenges, Evolution, and Future of the Euro" di John Cochrane, Luis Garicano e Klaus Masuch, Princeton University Press.Un'unione monetaria senza unione fiscale induce gli Stati membri ad indebitarsi per poi chiedere alla banca centrale un salvataggio stampando moneta. I padri dell'euro pertanto concepirono una Banca centrale europea indipendente, il cui mandato è esclusivamente la stabilità dei prezzi e soggetta al divieto di monetizzare i debiti pubblici.Ma i fondatori trascurarono il fatto che un'unione monetaria senza unione fiscale implica che in circostanze estreme, gli stati membri vanno in default proprio come le aziende. I fondatori dell'euro non potevano dirlo apertamente e quindi non ipotizzarono alcuna disposizione per il default sovrano, né alcun meccanismo di crisi per aiutare i paesi sovrani a scongiurare il default. Alle banche era e continua ad essere consentito trattare il debito sovrano come privo di rischio, incoraggiandone il possesso, ma ciò significa che il default sovrano mette in pericolo le banche. Questo è comprensibile. Nessuno negli anni '90 aveva previsto i problemi del debito pubblico dei paesi avanzati o una crisi finanziaria. Ma oggi il mondo è cambiato. Sono in pochi a conoscere Thomas Szasz, ma il suo contributo alla psichiatria e più in generale alla cultura, non solo quella libertaria, sono stati fondamentali. In questa puntata il Prof. Roberto Festa, che ha contribuito a diffondere le teorie di Szasz in Italia, ed è stato uno dei suoi più fervidi allievi ne sviscera le posizioni più controverse e dirompenti. Nella prefazione al libro di Szasz "Fede nella #libertà" che in Italia verrà pubblicato da Rubettino il 19 dicembre il Prof. Festa scrive:Thomas Szasz nacque il 15 aprile 1920 a Budapest, da una colta e agiata famiglia di origini ebraiche. Nel 1938, dopo che il regime dell'ammiraglio Miklós Horthy si avvicinò alla Germania nazista, la famiglia Szasz emigrò negli Stati Uniti. Nel 1939, il giovane Thomas si iscrisse all'Università di Cincinnati dove, nel 1941, si laureò in fisica e, nel 1944, in medicina. In quello stesso anno, ottenne la cittadinanza statunitense. Tra il 1951 e il 1954, Szasz completò il tirocinio psichiatrico e quello psicoanalitico. Nel 1956 fu assunto dalla State University of New York (SUNY) che, nel 1962, gli assegnò la cattedra di #psichiatria. Thomas #Szasz morì l'8 settembre 2012, all'età di 92 anni. Nel 1961, la pubblicazione di The Myth of Mental Illness procurò a Szasz una rapida fama. Nel libro viene difesa la tesi, ritenuta scandalosa da quasi tutti gli psichiatri, che le malattie mentali non esistono. Questa tesi implica che le cosiddette #psicoterapie, cioè le cure per le malattie mentali, sono inutili . Secondo Szasz, le idee di malattia mentale e psicoterapia sono solo miti, inventati per giustificare la pratica psichiatrica, che consiste nel ricovero coatto degli individui etichettati come matti e nella somministrazione, quasi sempre coercitiva, di trattamenti fittizi per malattie inesistenti. Pur negando la possibilità di curare gli individui diagnosticati come malati mentali, Szasz pensa che ci si possa prendere cura di loro, con appropriate forme di analisi. Il suo approccio, fondato sul presupposto che il rapporto tra analista e analizzando è di natura consensuale e contrattuale, si colloca nella tradizione psicoanalitica che origina da Sigmund Freud . Tuttavia, l'analisi szasziana si differenzia da quella freudiana, poiché assegna un ruolo centrale all'autonomia dell'analizzando che, attraverso l'esame dei suoi conflitti esistenziali, viene aiutato a comprendere che gli eventi della sua vita sono, in gran parte, il frutto delle sue libere scelte. Szasz ha svolto molte ricerche sulla storia della psichiatria, dalle sue origini teoriche nella teologia cristiana fino alle sue moderne pratiche coercitive . In particolare, ha dedicato molta attenzione alle relazioni tra psichiatria e diritto .A suo giudizio, il connubio tra psichiatria e diritto è stato la prima tappa nella formazione dello stato terapeutico, cioè di una nuova forma di stato, dalle spiccate tendenze dispotiche, caratterizzato dalla stretta integrazione tra stato e medicina.T. Si è tenuta la prima udienza alla Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti per decidere sulle sentenze di primo e secondo grado che hanno dichiarato illegali i dazi imposti da Trump. I giudici costituzionali hanno incalzato il Solicitor General (l'Avvocato dello Stato) John Sauer con domande che rivelavano una netta ostilità alle argomentazioni dell'Amministrazione. When we left off in episode 168, pressure was being exerted on the Kat River Settlement by the new Governor, Sir Henry Pottinger. A quick revisit. The Kat River Settlement came into being in I829 after a clash on the eastern border when the authorities of the Cape Colony expelled amaXhosa from land around the source of the Kat River. To prevent them from re-occupying the area when the soldiers withdrew, the colonial government decided to settle it with English settlers and Khoekhoe and bastaards. Andries Stockenstrom who was then the Commissioner General of the eastern districts, wanted to intersperse the two races and give them equal quantities of land. But his superiors insisted on placing the khoe in the most exposed military positions, then gave the Khoe smaller land-grants than the English settlers received. What is really fascinating is how many types of people lived in this small area — people who differentiated themselves based on their ancestry. The party at the confluence of the Kat and Mankanzana Rivers for example belonged to that class of mixed race South Africans known to the colonists as 'Bastaards', who had adopted Dutch clothing, religion, technology and language, and did not associate themselves with their Khoi heritage. In May 1847 Governor Sir Henry Pottinger appoint a bankrupt farmer and a man who was known as a great hater of the Khoekhoe to oversee the Kat River Settlement. Thomas Jarvis Biddulph was appointed magistrate and immediately there were issues. Andries Stockenstrom said Biddulph's moral character “could not bear scrutiny” and the new magistrate launched into a series of verbal and physical attacks on the Khoekhoe living along the Kat River and Blinkwater. He called them “a lazy set of paupers” and said that they would be better served working as labourers for the English settlers and the Boers. Just to reinforce his view, Biddulph pulled a tax stunt — increasing their tax from eighteen pence to six shillings. From eighteen cents to sixty cents. How about that for a tax hike, that's 43 percent. If you tried that these days, the scratching sound of matches would be heard across the land. This historic site didn't have long to go before it would be eviscerated by colonial jealousy. Even the former supporters, the missionaries, appeared to lose faith. One of the most ardent was Henry Calderwood. His idealism had evaporated — living on the frontier had shattered his liberal attitudes, and now he seemed to swap one obsession for another. One of the things that had driven Pottinger up the wall was the fact that the amaNgqika had continued to insist that they were at peace without admitting that they had been defeated, and by Sandile's refusal to resume negotiations. On the 7th August 1847 Sandile' had been formally declared a rebel. Then the whole situation worsened, and fast. Pottinger resorted to proclaiming that the amaMfengu, the Boers and the Khoekhoe who fought with his regular soldiers could seize whatever they liked from the amaXhosa. The full-scale invasion of the Amathola's began again on the 29th September 1847, and every grain pit was emptied, every single animal seized.
