Welcome back to Make Mine Multiverse City: A Marvel Podcast! Each episode we'll be looking at Marvel books, old and new! We discuss fun Marvel comics, Marvel news, Marvel history and (not so) recently ended X-men eras.Make Mine Multiversity was a twice-monthly podcast that premiered on the first and third Friday of every month. Now it's a little more irregular, and on a new network. From the ashes, we rise!…for one more episode before crawling back into our hermit lodges. Unlike Marvel, we let our era changes cook and oh boy, did this episode cook - we recorded it back in August. I promise it's worth the wait. The return of Baseline X, Jaina and Elias' power ranking of every X book of the Krakoa era, never got fully wrapped. There were still a few pesky books we never considered and an entire legacy to consider. We figured it was time to rectify that, in our own special way.Because, of course, an extra special episode deserves an extra special length AND format. Plus an extra special guest co-host! It's not a surprise, if you read the next paragraph, but you should still pretend anyway.Elias can be found writing at eliasrwrites.ghost.io. Jaina and Kevin are both living the good hermit life, so you can contact them by carrier pigeon. Our theme music is “Excelsior” by Carol Romo and our audio editor is Livian Saphir. The show is available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and other places so please subscribe! Make Mine Multiversity was a twice-monthly podcast that premiered on the first and third Friday of every month. You read that right. "Make Mine Multiversity" is coming to a close in its current iteration. Jaina is moving on and the podcast is going onto an extended hiatus. Stick around until the end to hear more about that. However, we've got an episode to do! What did we read? Why, "Marvel: The End" of course. A six issue mini-series about the end of the marvel universe by Jim Starlin, Al Milgrom, Christie Scheele w/ Heroic Age Studios, and Cory Petit. Supposedly. There's a lot of Thanos. We also talked all about the rest of the "The End" books. We're doing it folks. We've finally read one of the bugbears in the MMM canon: 'Castaway in Dimension Z' aka the first ten issues of Rick Remender's 2012 "Captain America" run. We do a recap on all things Remender, JRJR, and Cap once more before talking about this very divisive arc. Will Elias admit it's not as good as he thought it was? Will Jaina find more worth in it (and in the art?) Listen on, true believers! And for a bit of a fun time capsule, read Elias' review off issue #1 from our "Now That's What I Call Marvel" 2020 spectacular.Next time, it's time for "The End." Which end? Elias has found a new pastime: griping about Dan Slott on "Spider-Man." Jaina would love to show him the good Slott books she's read. Elias caved and decided he could gripe about Slott AND read a good Slott comic by revisiting 1 of 2 arcs he's actually read: the original "Spider-Verse." Folks. If you've only seen the movies, this shit will be a wild trip. Spider-Gwen! SP//dR! Silk! The worst Silk plot point ever! Spider-Woman as a pirate? And something a little...Superior.For those wanting Spidersman, check out "Spider-Geddon." You will be horrified but you won't be disappointed.Want to read along with us? Here ya go! Elias is competing to make them read "Major X," the "modern" Liefeld return to Marvel that was, uh, very, very odd. Jaina wants Elias to reevaluate his love of 'Castaway in Dimension Z,' the first arc of Rick Remender's 2012 "Captain America" run with art by John Romita Jr.They were shocked by how much they got right and unsurprised by how much they got wrong. 90s Eternals got dark! But maybe that's a good thing? At least dark is a tone; it's better to be dark than bland. Or is it? We talk about some very tacky comics that have a bit of life to them. But if you were looking for the point the "Eternals" comics fell off a cliff, this episode will have the answers you seek.Next time we are reading a truly eclectic collection of books. Feel free to follow along with "Heroes for Hire" (Vol.1 ) #4-7 (from November 1997, January 1998) and "The New Eternals: Apocalypse Now" (also known as Eternals: The New Breed) #1 (from February 2000). You can find these issues collected in "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus" and "Luke Cage, Iron Fist & the Heroes For Hire Vol. 1." It may be easier to read on Marvel Unlimited though, if that is something you have access too. The episode should be accessible even if you don't read the issues!

It's a new year but we're not nearly done with our read through of all of The Eternals. Join us as we dig into the twelve-issue maxi-series "The Eternals" (Vol. 2) and discover why Ikaris really shouldn't be the poster boy for these characters with digressions into the Royal Rumble, Simonson NOT on "Thor," and Kieron Gillen's first tenure on "X-Men." Give us a Vampirio and Kro issue you cowards!Next time, we're reading Avengers (Vol. 1 ) #308-310 (October 1989- November 1989); Eternals: The Herod Factor (November 1991); Avengers (Vol. 1 ) #361, #374-375 (April 1993, May 1994 -June 1994) and possibly Avengers Spotlight #35 which features Gilgamesh and Sprite. There's no good way to find these issues outside of bargain bins, digital comics sellers, and Marvel Unlimited! Gotta love this weird, weird era.For the curious though, you can find "Avengers" #308-310 & "Marvel Spotlight" #35 in "Avengers" by John Byrne Omnibus, "Avengers" #361 & "Marvel Spotlight" #35 in "Eternals" Cosmic Origins," and "Eternals: Herod Factor in "Eternals: The Complete Saga" Omnibus. As far as I, Elias, can tell, "Avengers" #374 & 375 are the only ones to have never been reprinted.

It's the end of the year holiday season, so we are taking a break from our regularly scheduled program. The Eternals are forever, that's kind of the point of them (but will anyone care?) This week's episode takes a look back at the year in Marvel. The MCU may feel like it's going off the rails, but there are still some fun comics, even beyond the world of "X-Men." Find out which comics we think we'll find ourselves returning to again and again. We also have our annual predictions bet, where we try and guess at what's going to happen with Marvel stories across media. The movies have felt like the center of Marvel for so long, but maybe 2023 is the year that changes. Did this year teach us to love crossover events? Is there hope for the future of Marvel video games? Are there romance options in Marvel: Midnight Suns? Next time, we return to the huge mega Eternals read, and it's the last time the issues will be easy to find for a good long while. We are reading Eternals (vol. 2) issues #1–12, a limited series that ran from October 1985 - September 1986. It's collected as the second half of "The Dreaming Celestial Saga," and you can also find the story on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla Digital.

We saw the genesis of the Eternals. We saw the reinterpretation of the Eternals (with a side order of TOO MUCH RING CYCLE.) Now we get the reinvention of the Eternals in the pages of "What If..." (Vol. 1) #23-30, a modern adventure spotlighting the Deviants in "Iron Man" Annual #6, and a fun story with Starfox of all people in "Avengers" (Vol. 1) #246-248. Vision is the creepiest one there, and they meet the President in the 80s!If you are reading along at home, you can find these issues on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla. Trade readers can find them in the first half of "Eternals: The Dreaming Celestial Saga" or in the humungous "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus." It's epic vs epic as we continue through 70s "Thor." Our goal is the same- to trace the story of Marvel's Eternals through every one of their major comic appearances. But I don't think anyone was prepared for how Nordic these issues get. This stuff is steeped in mythology, and we do our best to sift through the pieces of the deeply retconned Marvel continuity. Marvel maniacs aren't going to want to miss it.If you are reading along at home, you can find these issues on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla. Trade readers can find them in "Thor: The Eternals Saga" Vol. 2 or the back half of “Thor and the Eternals: The Celestial Saga” or in the humungous "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus." We've got a lot of fun things planned for the next 100 (or at least the next 15-20) and we hope you'll join us for the ride.To kick our 100th episode off, we're starting our walk through Eternals history - another mammoth book club series, though one a little less coherent than the Annihilation Saga - by chilling with the King and reading the first ten issues of the series that started it all: "Eternals" (1976.) Jaina and Elias debate the merits of the series, the demerits of the premise, and decry the sexism that pervades the book...and the eternal smugness of our protagonists. If you are reading along at home, you can find these issues on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla. Trade readers can find them in "Eternals By Jack Kirby," Vol. 1 or the first half of the “Complete Collection” or in "Eternals: The Complete Saga Omnibus."
