Join us as we dig into the twelve-issue maxi-series "The Eternals" (Vol. 2) and discover why Ikaris really shouldn't be the poster boy for these characters with digressions into the Royal Rumble, Simonson NOT on "Thor," and Kieron Gillen's first tenure on "X-Men." Give us a Vampirio and Kro issue you cowards!Next time, we're reading Avengers (Vol. 1 ) #308-310 (October 1989- November 1989); Eternals: The Herod Factor (November 1991); Avengers (Vol. 1 ) #361, #374-375 (April 1993, May 1994 -June 1994) and possibly Avengers Spotlight #35 which features Gilgamesh and Sprite. It's epic vs epic as we continue through 70s "Thor." Our goal is the same- to trace the story of Marvel's Eternals through every one of their major comic appearances. But I don't think anyone was prepared for how Nordic these issues get. This stuff is steeped in mythology, and we do our best to sift through the pieces of the deeply retconned Marvel continuity. Marvel maniacs aren't going to want to miss it.If you are reading along at home, you can find these issues on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla. Character Corner - A Podcast on Your favorite Comic Book Characters

Kriss and Dpalm are finally back with a new Character Corner episode. This time we're talking about the Marvel Master of Kung Fu himself, Shang-Chi. We decided to wait until after we talked about the movie before diving into this character and for good reason. See, there's really no nice way to say this but the history of Shang-Chi is pretty racist. From the inception of the character and tying him to the racist Fu Manchu character all the way to even more modern books with the character that rely on how "foreign" he is. Shang-Chi is a character that has really suffered from good intentions that still fall short. Outside of the varying degrees of racism, the character has also suffered from being stagnant and not growing. A lot of that has changed though with the most recent solo series for the character. In the last year or so, Shang-Chi has grown in depth and his solo books have been really great.   For this episode we do a little less going into the step-by-step history of the character and focus more on the most interesting aspects, the racism & problems that plagued the early books and why the new books really have opened up some new possibilities for the character.   Issues: Special Marvel Edition #15 - First Appearance For old school Shang-Chi books it's best to read the different Omnibus Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Omnibus Vol 1 & 2 Shang-Chi Master of Kung-Fu Omnibus Vol 1 - 4 Marvel Knights 1 - 15 Civil War: Heroes For Hire Volume 1: Heroes for Hire Volume 2: Ahead of the Curve Volume 3: World War Hulk Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu (2009) - First story is written by Jonathan Hickman & is Deadpool & Shang-Chi in a deadly motorcycle race Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu 1 - 3 Secret Avengers Volume 2: Eyes of the Dragon - Retcons Shang-Chi's father to be Zheng  Zu 16 - 21 Avengers World & Avengers Vol 5 (We will dive into these during Part 6 & 7 of Into the Hickmanverse) Totally Awesome Hulk #13 - 18 Domino #1 - 5 New Agents of Atlas #1 - 4 Shang-Chi #1 - 5 (2020) Shang-Chi (2021 - Present)   Like what you hear? First, lets explain that this was recorded as episode two but is obviously being released now. Why? Kofi winning the title and Avenger: Endgame came out and kinda pushed what we had planned back. In this episode Maps and Bane were supposed to be covering the Avengers Vol. 1- The Final Host, written by Jason Aaron.....but it just didn't pan out like that. What had happened was....we were still on a podhigh from celebrating the life of Bane's brother as well as our eternal love of the 1980s Transformers movie. From there Bane gives his review of Netflix's Voltron, as well as Jordan Peele's Us. FYI there are some spoilers but not major ones? Eventually we work way around to actually doing what we came together to do; review this new Avengers comic book arc. After that the ball gets officially rolling  when we pitch Black Sentry into the MCU, who Michael Jai White should play, how Bane put Miles up on Captain America back in the day. And lastly they touch on Bane's take on the new She-Hulk, a review of Batman: White Knight and the upcoming Birds of Prey movie.    For more media from Maps or Handsome Bane, as well as other great podcasts, head on over to www.hyphenpodcastgroup.com, and go to https://www.patreon.com/hyphenpodcastgroup if the spirit moves you to support. We're back to wrap up our two-part Captain Marvel series with two of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe: Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers. These are not only some of the most power female characters in the Marvel stable but two of the most powerful characters ever. We start first with Monica Rambeau, the first black female character to become a member of the Avengers. While Monica has never really had her own on-going solo series, she played a significant role on the Avengers in the 80's (even becoming Chairwoman of the group). Then we move onto the life of Carol Danvers. With the launch of Ms. Marvel in 1977, Carol not only gets super powers  but becomes Marvel's feminist icon answer to DC's Wonder Woman. Unfortunately an extremely poor decision to have Carol raped (even though the book is written as if she's not) really sets the character back. Chris Claremont takes Carol back and brings her into his X-Men book which starts Carol on her long, slow return to prominence and eventually taking the tile of Captain Marvel. Episode 17 starts out with us talking about what we've been watching and listening to since last podcast.  From there we move on to Doctor Who and Big Finish news. Next, we look at "The State of Big Finish," where we look at their growth from 2013 to present. We do vent some frustration and annoyances with the lack of communication Big Finish has with their subscribers, but we do keep in mind that Big Finish does produce high quality audio dramas and we eagerly anticipate each month's release.  Then, we review the Main Range release 195 Mistfall, the first part of the 5th Doctor E-Space Trilogy.  From there we move to the Tom Baker release beginning with the 4th Doctor Adventure, The Exxilons, then transition to the Novalizations, The English Way of Death and Romance of Crime.  We acknowledge the Short Trips "Flywheel Revolution" and The Avengers Vol 3 release, but have no review at this time.  Liam finishes off with his thoughts on Blake's 7 full cast, Mindset, and the last Pathfinders Legend story for series 1.  Cam tries to make sense of some of the Pathfinders as well as the Dark Shadows - Bloodlush ranges. The show finishes off with the audio only review of the Sixth Doctor classic story, Mindwarp, and the tie-ins with Antidote of Oblivian, Peri and the Piscon Paradox, The Widow's Assassin, and The Rani's Elite (spoilers may occur if you haven't listened to any of those stories).

The analysis on the Mid-Season Finale was epic and I can't wait to see how Team-Ward develops, or what Rayna becomes! I wanted to give a bit of background on Dane Whitman (AKA, the Black Knight) in case I can win any converts and move him up into the top-five of any other listeners…   Lauren, you’ve probably seen Dane Whitman in a recent issue of Original Sin, where Marvel explored the long term impact of the blood lust linked to the Ebony Blade. Either there or as a recurring character in the current run of Avengers: World as the current leader of Euroforce. Check out Original Sin #2 of 5, as well as Avengers World #12.   http://www.comicvine.com/original-sins- ... 00-457648/ http://www.comicvine.com/avengers-world-12/4000-463980/   Haley, you'll probably run into a great run of Black Knight pretty soon! One of my favourite appearances of both the Black Knight and Valkyrie (see my all-female avengers line-up) was in Defenders #4 from 1973. Its one of the first comics that I ever remember coveting back in the late 70s or very early 80s, probably from my Dad’s stash (I was too young to have picked it up myself when it came out). The heavy mystical/fantasy leanings of the early Defenders (including Dr. Strange, Black Knight, Valkyrie, Hawkeye) made a big impact on a fledgling D&D geek.   http://www.comicvine.com/the-defenders- ... 000-12921/   Dane Whitman first appeared with the Avengers in 1967 in Avengers #48, then moved around the Marvel universe for a while, including the Defenders as I mentioned. He later shows up again in the 1982s in Avengers #225 (in the middle of the epic Hank Pym & Janet Van Dyne - Trial of Hank Pym saga). As a side note, Avengers #227 debuts Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel (who would later go on to lead the Avengers).   http://www.comicvine.com/the-avengers-4 ... 4000-9877/ http://marvel.wikia.com/Avengers_Vol_1_225 http://marvel.wikia.com/Avengers_Vol_1_227   While a lot of people poke fun at the Jim Shooter era of the early 80s, it's a good stretch of Avengers to really get into and understand how some the characters we know today were shaped. And after all, this is when Janet Van Dyne is leading the Avengers even as you have Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Thor on the active roster. A couple years later Monica Rambeau went on to lead it when you had Hercules on the team, so it was a pretty progressive line-up and approach to leadership at the time!   A final note on Black Knight; Dane is a complex character, who could actually bridge the gap between different aspects of the MCU.
