It's the end of the year holiday season, so we are taking a break from our regularly scheduled program. The Eternals are forever, that's kind of the point of them (but will anyone care?) This week's episode takes a look back at the year in Marvel. The MCU may feel like it's going off the rails, but there are still some fun comics, even beyond the world of "X-Men." Find out which comics we think we'll find ourselves returning to again and again. We also have our annual predictions bet, where we try and guess at what's going to happen with Marvel stories across media. The movies have felt like the center of Marvel for so long, but maybe 2023 is the year that changes. Did this year teach us to love crossover events? Is there hope for the future of Marvel video games? Are there romance options in Marvel: Midnight Suns? Next time, we return to the huge mega Eternals read, and it's the last time the issues will be easy to find for a good long while. We are reading Eternals (vol. 2) issues #1–12, a limited series that ran from October 1985 - September 1986. It's collected as the second half of "The Dreaming Celestial Saga," and you can also find the story on Marvel Unlimited and Hoopla Digital.

Asterix or The Adventures of Asterix (French: Astérix or Astérix le Gaulois, IPA: [aste?iks l? ?olwa]) is a series of French comic books written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo (Uderzo also took over the job of writing the series after the death of Goscinny in 1977). The series first appeared in French in the magazine Pilote on 29 October 1959. As of 2009, 34 comic books in the series have been released. The series follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. They do so by means of a magic potion, brewed by their druid, which gives the recipient superhuman strength. The protagonist, the titular character, Asterix, along with his friend Obelix have various adventures. The “ix” suffix of both names echoes the name of Vercingetorix, a historical Gaul chieftain. In many cases, the stories have them travel to various countries around the world, though other books are set in and around their village. For much of the history of the series (Volumes 4 through 29), settings in Gaul and abroad alternated, with even-numbered volumes set abroad and odd-numbered volumes set in Gaul, mostly in the village. The Asterix series is one of the most popular Franco-Belgian comics in the world, with the series being translated into over 100 languages, and it is popular in most European countries. Asterix is less well known in the United States and Japan. The success of the series has led to the adaptation of several books into 11 films; eight animated, and three with live actors. There have also been a number of games based on the characters, and a theme park near Paris, Parc Astérix, is themed around the series. To date, 325 million copies of 34 Asterix books have been sold worldwide, making co-creators René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo France's bestselling authors abroad You can read them online from Hoopla Digital or at the Read Asterix Comics online page. We kick the new year off with a movie chat!  Sara's cinephile co-worker suggested this one: The Matador, from 2005 starring Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, and Hope Davis. Written and directed by Richard Shepard. Julian Noble is an unshaven, unnerved and unpredictable freelance assassin, who happens to encounter desperate businessman Danny Wright in the bar of a modern Mexico City hotel. Danny is intrigued when Julian reveals that he's a "facilitator of fatalities," and his wife becomes equally fascinated when Julian shows up unexpectedly, six months later, at Danny's home in Denver. Having lost his touch as a reliable hit-man, Julian needs Danny's help with "one last job," but the logistics of Julian's lethal profession brings them both in contact with other employees out to get Julian. Christian Homeschool Moms Podcast | Christian Homeschool Moms

Welcome to this week's podcast. This week I'm encouraging you to figure out ways to begin homeschooling for free. With so many resources at our fingertips- both online and locally- the sky is the limit for free homeschool options! Reasons to consider homeschooling for free: You don't have to spend a fortune, but you can. I like to set my disclaimer that it's perfectly okay to spend money on your kids however you see fit. After all, they're your kids. But just know that you and I don't have to spend a fortune to accomplish the goal of educating our kids. Be willing to spend on quality items and services. This is a must for our family since we love art and music. We invest our money into long term goals to equip our kids with certain music and art skills that we may not possess. I feel like it's money well spent- but I have to make choices about where my money goes. Rather than spending a fortune on curriculum, many times I choose to place it on services that would be hard to come by in curriculum or book formats. This is where you have to decide what's more important: products or services- and how much, if any, you want to spend on either. Homeschooling for free comes with a price: the price of making intentional choices! Be very selective about your time. What does homeschooling for free look like for your family? Is it always about money, or does it include how you spend your time? Cutting back on time outside of the home has helped us this semester to focus on what really matters in our home. It also reduces the amount of money we spend while out and about! In our case, time is just as important as money, and I've found great improvements in our lifestyle by not only looking at our bank accounts but also our time management.   King of the Niche Podcasts Bill Strand of Chameleonbreeder.com In this 20 minute interview we hear how: Bill has been involved with Chameleon's For Over 40 Years His Podcast Has Lead His Audience to Trust Him and Engage with him on Social Media This trust has to lead to more sales than when he produced an Ezine (back in the day) His supplier can't keep up with the orders and Bill no longer mentions his Chameleon Cages on his show How Bill keeps his family supporting his show His audience loyalty results in them freely paying more for his products so they can support him. Bill is nice enough to share his numbers, and he is getting WAY MORE than the median 200 downloads (he had more than that in one day) Bill's commitment is to delivering value. 2017 Is More Than Half Way Done, How Are Your Goals? It's July, last month the year was 50% 0ver. My plans for this year had two big projects. Revamp the School of Podcasting Update my book, "More Podcast Money." I have not made any serious strides in either of these. Let's not panic. What did I do instead? I launched a few shows testing different hosting platforms (including a show for my cat). I started a Patreon group my weight loss show. I added a "Baby Steps" free video course to drive leads to the School of Podcasting. While learning about more platforms keep me well rounded in what is available for podcasters, it's kind of like knowing about Coke, Pepsi, and DR. Pepper. Do you really need more cola choices? OK, fine, we'll add RC cola. The Patreon experiment is for the book as was having a sponsor earlier in the year. Free Resources You Might Want to Check Out If you're looking for a way to get the word out (and you somewhat have an audience of friends, etc) there is a free tool called thunderclap.it where you pick a day when you send out a tweet (that you create) and it goes out everyone's twitter at the same time (and Facebook, and Tumblr) . You need a minimum of 100 people (according to their video) or it won't go out (the free version let's you choose how many people you need to share. The smallest paid plan is $55 per campaign.  I've added this to the Podcasting Resources area. Sometimes reading books will give you an idea for a new episode. While there are resources like Audibible.com (where you can get a free book for joining), you may have heard of this thing called the Library (which I recently got to visit when we had a thunderstorm, and I had no power or the Internet and they did). On a recent taping of the Ask the Podcast Coach show, Daniel J Lewis from the Audacity to Podcast informed me of Overdrive.com which works with your library card to enable you to download audiobooks and ebooks for free. Kim Krachi from Toastmasters 101 also mentioned Hoopla Digital which is a similar service.
