Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself.  In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Last week, Disney announced that Hulu is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell to extend the FX series Shōgun for two additional seasons. A writer's room is currently being assembled. Shōgun is currently the most viewed show in FX's history.

Capes On the Couch - Where Comics Get Counseling

Under the cover of a full moon, we shed a light on Jack Russell, WEREWOLF BY NIGHT! How many Warren Zevon references do we fit into this episode? Listen now to find out! Intro Apologies for delays in episodes - Doc and I going thru stuff (separately)  Reminder that Shenanicon registration is now open - still no word on exact date & time of Baccano panel Background (3:13) Jack Russell, Werewolf by Night, created by Roy Thomas, Jeanie Thomas, Gerry Conway, & Mike Ploog in Marvel Spotlight #2 (Feb. 1972) Jacob Russoff is the son of Gregor Russoff, a Transylvanian baron whose ancestor was bitten by a werewolf working for Vlad Dracula in 1795 Gregor acquired the Darkhold and read it, triggering the latent curse and turning him into a werewolf - after he was killed, his wife Laura moved to America and remarried her brother-in-law Phillip Russell, and Jacob became Jack Russell Jack's curse took effect on his 18th birthday, and shortly thereafter his family's driver sabotaged his mother's car to crash under Phillip's orders - before her death she told Jack the truth about his heritage and made him promise not to take revenge on Phillip (no promise was made about the driver, though…) Spent most of the next few years on the run from the Committee, who wanted to capture him and use him for their own purposes - among the many people hired by the Committee was Moon Knight, who defeated Jack before having a change of heart and teaming up with Jack to escape Spends a chunk of the 80s on a motorcycle driving around the country - after a battle with the Hulk, his father's spirit tells him he must accept his beastly nature or die; he does, and gains control over his transformation and abilities Unfortunately his control didn't last, and he began seeing visions of Hell during his transformations - this drove him to alcoholism and suicidal thoughts until he encountered a woman similarly afflicted and under siege by a small town - they killed the leaders and agreed to help each other live free He was given a vaccine by Michael Morbius that helped him regain control, and he joined the Midnight Sons - his new mindset was that of acceptance, and he was determined to find other “monsters” around the world and help them the way he had been helped - this includes Rahne Sinclair's son, who she rejected because the child was feral He had his head blown off by Deadpool after Wade found him in bed with his wife - he survived, but it took some time for his head to grow back Issues - Theme is “a sheep in wolf's clothing” (7:46) Finally reached an acceptance of his werewolf nature, even if the world hasn't Formerly suicidal alcoholic (14:10) A drifter who's unattached to any one place for too long (24:28) Break (32:12) Plugs for I Am Your Target Demographic and Hops Geek News Treatment In-universe - Treat yo self Out of universe - Focus on the addiction issues first, and then work on the other things Skit (41:40) Hello Jack, I'm Dr. Issues. - Hi. Man, I could have used you a long time ago. *pause* Thaaanks? So, what can I do for you…now? - Just hear me out. I've hesitated to do any therapy because I didn't think anyone would listen.  Oh, so my reputation precedes me. -You never answered my calls or emails. I can be scant in my availability, yes. But that should be a deterrent, right?. -Every review I read said that you are the most patient psychiatrist they've ever met, but you're hard to track. I like that. Maybe you can tolerate my story.  My goal is more than tolerance. I want patients to thrive. But sometimes you have to crawl, then walk, then run. -You got that right! So I did my homework. I know this is confidential as long as I'm not a threat, right? Yup. -Well, what if I told you that there's only a certain number of nights where I was a threat, but I kept everyone safe with an airtight plan? Makes sense, right?  I guess -*interrupting* and what if I told you that I even went so far as to meditate to harness my rage in a form that was productive. Are you with me? Is this a metaphor for male menopause or -*interrupts again* Heck man, I even found a, uh, “alternative healer” to basically cure me. This is some wild stuff, huh? You sound like an infomercial right now. What is your angle? Are you trying to promote some woo-woo healthy positivity or what? I'm confused. You're way more upbeat than I thought you'd be. I just scrolled through your emails -Better late than never *Interrupting* No wonder I blew you off. You sent me an autobiography that reads like Ann Rice decided to make out with Kafka. -*pause* So a bit melodramatic? Therapy is supposed to be more than just venting. You say you have all of these tools to…wow this is long…survive with lycanthropy?! You could have just said “I'm a werewolf.” -Well you always use those vocab words in your writing so I was trying to match you. And how dare you try to shame a patient. I've come a long way, you know! No shame, no blame. Just…*sigh* I get this a lot. You want to connect on a human level. That's awesome. I'm impressed, because you're clearly putting the proper energy into this. But there IS a way to swing too far on that pendulum. I want to be your trusted professional, but I'm not your buddy. There's a difference. Let's focus on your accomplishments so far, since that's your focus out of the gate. -Cool! First off, I survived a family that sometimes turned feral. Lots of reconciliation. Great. -I am on the sober path. Wonderful. -I can live in my own skin…and fur.  Check. -No, further east than that. Huh? -Nevermind, bad joke.  Not rushin ya -Huh? Even worse joke. -*snaps fingers* You DO have a bright side.Anywho, what I'm trying to say is, I don't have everything figured out. But I've taken care of the boulders. Studio Soundtracks takes listeners behind the scenes of how music is crafted for film and television by hearing directly from composers, songwriters and music professionals in the Entertainment Industry. Listen to inspiring conversations about composition and hear works from Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning film scores on the show. DAVE PORTER Dave Porter is a Los Angeles based composer for film and television. He began his classical musical training at the piano at age five, but it was his interest in electronic music as a teen that led him to start composing his own music. He studied both classical and electronic music composition at Sarah Lawrence College under John Yannelli and started his professional career as an assistant in Philip Glass' recording studio in New York City. Dave is perhaps best known for his enduring creative relationship with one of Hollywood's most respected figures – Vince Gilligan. Since the remarkable pilot episode of Breaking Bad in 2007, Dave has written the original music for all of Gilligan's projects. He scored all 62 episodes of that groundbreaking series and created its iconic opening theme. Actor/Producer Bryan Cranston stated: “With his music, Dave Porter has created another character for Breaking Bad. Evocative and meaningful, Dave's work is an essential part of the storytelling.” Since then, Dave has also been behind all of the original music for Breaking Bad's equally acclaimed spin-off, Better Call Saul, and helped bring the Breaking Bad universe to the big screen with his original score to Gilligan's feature film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. 2024 will kick off a new chapter In Dave's career — his first collaboration with Marvel Studios, Echo, will release on January 10th. The first project to be released under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, it will also be the first Marvel series with a TV-MA rating. “The Marvel team made me feel at home right away and have created a television series full of all of the hallmarks that inspire me — real stakes, emotions, consequences, and a world in which all of the characters are always learning and evolving,” said Porter on his collaboration with Marvel. Dave has twice been awarded ASCAP's Composer's Choice Award for Best Television Composer — at the inaugural event for the award in 2013, and once again in 2017. He was also bestowed the 2019 Citation Award by his alma mater Sarah Lawrence College for his creative achievements. DAVID FLEMING David Fleming is an American composer who has written music for film and television. His signature sound is rooted in a synth-heavy design that subverts traditional scores and creates unique soundscapes for each project, including HBO's The Last of Us, the Top 5 debut Amazon series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Donald Glover, and the upcoming Netflix epic fantasy feature Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown. Blue Planet II marked the start of a collaborative relationship with David and Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, encompassing music for films such as Dune and Top Gun: Maverick. David has also collaborated with popular recording artists such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Camilla Cabello and Beyoncé, with whom he worked on the Grammy-nominated song Spirit, for The Lion King soundtrack. He is currently composing the score for Barry Levinson's Alto Knights, starring Robert De Niro as well as the documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man, directed by Ron Howard. All three films are slated for 2024 releases. TRACKLIST: Dave Porter – The First Choctaw (ECHO)David Fleming – Hi Hi (MR. & MRS. Whatever our reasons for tuning in or out this Super Bowl Sunday, as movie fans, there's no denying the impact the event has in terms of trailers and TV spots, with Paramount, Universal, and Disney all investing a record $7 million per 30-second Super Bowl spot. Paramount has three spots booked, featuring "Bob Marley: One Love," John Krasinski's "IF," and "A Quiet Place: Day One." Disney is expected to promote its Father's Day release "Inside Out 2" and the trailer for Marvel Studios' sole 2024 release "Deadpool 3,". Universal may feature spots for various films, including "Twisters," "Kung Fu Panda 4," "Monkeyman," and "The Fall Guy." Sony and Warner Bros are notably absent from Super Bowl spots this year, and there's no confirmation from Apple or Netflix about promoting their major projects during the event either. Despite rumors of its cancellation, Marvel Studios' Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is apparently back on track and actively in production according to leaked set photos and footage circulating the web. Production of the series, led by Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and producer Andrew Guest, began in April but was paused due to last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The images in question tease an in-universe film franchise depicting a marquee with the Wonder Man title card along with the character's logo and emblem. While we are lacking on official details, including a release date, the latest we've heard is that the series will fall under the new Marvel Spotlight banner and Sir Ben Kingsley is expected to reprise his role as Trevor Slattery. Unfortunately we learned today that a crew member who was a rigger has sadly died on set after falling from the rafters. The on-set accident did not occur during filming and we certainly share the condolences of the cast and crew. Although it debuted at the top of the box office, Matthew Vaughn's $200 million would be February blockbuster, Argylle, has not performed well, with an $18 million domestic and $35 million global start, coupled with a C+ CinemaScore. The star-studded ensemble cast failed to attract audiences as predicted by tracking. Despite Apple's substantial financial prowess, these big-budget films, such as Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon, are not proving profitable when considering the overall motion picture profit and loss sheet, lacking ancillaries like foreign TV, theme park tie-ins, or cruise ship exploitation, prompting questions about the streamers long-term viability. During the documentary "Grounded 2: Making The Last of Us Part 2," creative director Neil Druckmann hinted at the possibility of The Last of Us Part 3, revealing that he has a conceptual idea for another chapter in the story. Druckmann emphasized that while the first two games had clear concepts of parental love and the pursuit of justice, the potential third installment would be its own unique narrative. He clarified that a previously mentioned story about Joel's brother, Tommy, was not outlined for The Last of Us Part 3, but rather a separate project that was shelved temporarily due to other priorities at Naughty Dog. Elsewhere in the Last of Us franchise, Schitt's Creek star Catherine O'Hara has been cast in an undisclosed role for the HBO show's second season. 2024 Grammy Winners: o Best pop solo performance: Miley Cyrus, "Flowers" o Best música urbana album: Karol G, "Mañana Será Bonito" o Best country album: Lainey Wilson, "Bell Bottom Country" o Best R&B song: SZA, "Snooze" o Best pop vocal album: Taylor Swift, "Midnights" o Song of the year: "What Was I Made For?" Last week, Variety published an article that laid out a behind the scenes look at growing issues and long term concerns at Marvel Studios and Disney regarding the present and future of the MCU. If you follow this show, you are likely up on many of these points but here are a few that caught our eye. This week's new MCU entry The Marvels had several behind the scenes issues. The budget for the film was $250 million dollars and is tracking for a low opening weekend as we've discussed previously. Lengthy reshoots were needed to bring the film together and director Nia DaCosta also relocated and started working on another project during post-production, which is uncommon in Hollywood, especially with a film of this budget size. However, DaCosta recently responded to the article, stating that this was due to delays in The Marvels release date and was not a controversial move with the studio. Many of the recent VFX issues are attributed to poor script writing and planning. VFX artists report that they are asked to pivot sometimes suddenly to correct or add VFX late in production due to script rewrites. For example, the first episode of She-Hulk, which was originally a later episode in the season, was flipped to the first episode and ended up costing $25 million dollars for that single episode due to the rewrite. Blade continues to have serious script issues. The script has been rewritten multiple times and lead actor Mahershala Ali nearly left the project on multiple occasions. One rewrite of the script was described as "female-centric, Blade relegated to the fourth lead, and full of life lessons." Marvel is still looking to make the film, but "on a budget of less than $100 million dollars." Marvel Studios has had talks about bringing back the original six Avengers actors for a new Avengers film to revive excitement in the franchise, despite the deaths of Iron Man and Black Widow. And now there are rumors that Robert Downey, Jr. has agreed to another film. Marvel is still undecided about how to handle the future of Jonathan Majors in the MCU. Discussions have ranged from recasting him to pivoting away from Kang the Conqueror entirely to another villain such as Doctor Victor Von Doom. With Majors' case now going to trial and with the writer's strike preventing script rewrites for so long, the studio has yet to commit to a path forward. The Creative Artists Agency (CAA) dropped Majors pre-arrest due to "brutal conduct," which seems to indicate that Marvel Studios might want to move on from him, regardless of the legal situation. There is still optimism around the future of Marvel Studios, but certain changes in the formula are clearly needed. In more Marvel news, the franchise giant is venturing into more mature territory with Echo, which unveiled a moody and violent trailer last Friday. The new series will be the MCU's first TV-MA rating and the first to debut simultaneously on Disney+ and sister streaming service Hulu. Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D'ONofrio will appear in the show starring as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fiske/Kingpin, respectively. Star Alaqua Cox will reprise her Hawkeye role as Maya Lopez/Echo. Also of note, Echo will premiere under a new banner called Marvel Spotlight; complete with a new intro scored by Oscar winning composer Michael Giacchino and a new logo. This new sub-category of Marvel will focus on standalone properties versus series and movies that connect to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Spotlight gets its name from an anthology comic book series first introduced by Marvel in 1971, which featured new characters that readers didn't have to fully commit to over several issues. Echo is setting the stage for a lot of potential trends with Marvel Studios…
