Sport psychology is absolutely one of my passions and something I think that is HEAVILY misunderstood and underutilised by basically every single athlete...even the ones who think they pay attention to it. In this episode I talk about my first BJJ competition on the weekend and the steps I took and have been taking over the last handful of years that allowed me to feel zero competition anxiety, perform at my potential and win the gold medal. The carnivore diet is a controversial eating plan that consists of only animal products, such as meat, eggs, cheese, and butter. More athletes have adopted this way of eating lately claiming this diet can improve their health, weight loss. One thing athletes (specially combat athletes) do notice though is a significant drop in performance during high intensity sessions and in competitions. This is not a surprise. Following a type of diet that excludes entire food groups is generally a bad idea but all that aside I want to talk about why there is a drop in performance and I'll will give you some tips and suggestions on how to adjust the carnivore diet to suit your needs when it comes to performance as a combat athlete. Apologies in advance if there are technical errors, the internet connection was constantly dropping out as Dr Dan was overseas when we were recording this. Working hard is the cornerstone of achieving anything big and significant. No doubt about it. but at what point does "working hard" become "spinning your wheels"? I delve into this and explore burnout and what working hard really is, or at least should be. I also touch on the magic of the 80/20 rule and how it should be utilised for maximizing efficiency.
Our brain wants to protect us and keep us in comfort, but the seeking of too much comfort and too much luxury get you out of touch with reality and put you out of practice and out of preparation for when the real world comes. It can make one thing to chase bigger things harder. Seeking too much comfort, being too entitled, seeking luxuries too often all can play a part in your own dismantling at some point. You have to keep your mind and body sharp while actively seeking discomfort on a regular basis if you want to have an edge over yourself and over your competitors in whatever field you are in. As always thank you for listening, thank you for your questions and thank you for your support. Send me your questions and feedback on Instagram @the_sportperformancecoach
How individualised does your training really need to be? What does individualisation really even mean and to what degree does it apply to people's programs? Does every single person's program need to be drastically different because they are an individual? Can 2 programs be almost exactly the same and still yield great results? If so does it make it a good idea to do so? I'm going to explore all of these questions and more in this episode. As usual I want to know what you guys think and I want you to share this episode, like the podcast, rate the podcast and tell your friends about the podcast. Thank you for listening
Watching the recent UFC fight between Conor and Cowboy it was clear that Conor is back. Not just the fighting skills but the focus and the drive. I followed all major interviews in the lead up to the fight and the post fight press conference after the fight and there was something Conor himself talked about that put it all together very neatly and that was his perception of the role of commitment. In this episode I talk about my take on what I saw and heard, what I think commitment REALLY means and how you can apply it right now to CRUSH your goals this year. Hey, I want to hear your feedback. I want to hear how you are applying the principles in these podcasts to get after it every day. I want you to rate this podcast if you feel it's giving you the content you need...and if it's not giving you the content you need then I want you to tell me directly. Thank you all once again for subscribing, sharing and tuning in.
