Hey there, it's Isaac from Powered By Rock here to bring Old Cross into the spotlight for a few minutes, and make them sweat with some on-the-spot questions. And right after this, we are going to have them play a special exclusive performance that I think our listeners are really going to enjoy. Welcome, everyone. Are you ready to be put in the spotlight? 1 - What's the one thing you guys haven't done yet as a band that you really want to do (i.e. sign a major record deal, play a specific venue, travel abroad, etc…)? 2 - What are some of your favorite bands you guys have had the opportunity to play with? 3 - Being from Portland, what do you prefer to get you through all the rainy days, a lot of coffee or beer? 4 - What's the next big project for the band? 5 - Tell me about the song you are going to perform for us, what's the story behind it and how was the process of recording it both for the studio and for this performance? I want to thank Old Cross for stepping In the Spotlight and answering these hot seat questions. Make sure to go to the show notes below this episode for links to the music and watch our full podcast interview as well! I am going to be speaking with the Portland, Oregon based punk rock band, Old Cross. After putting out a self-titled E.P in 2018, they released an LP in 2020 called Daggers just in time for the pandemic to stop them from touring to support and build their audience. Since the lockdown eased up, the band has been able to do some touring, and even put out a rad new music video for their single “Rotting.” We'll be speaking to the gang from Old Cross right after this. I am going to be speaking with author, filmmaker, tattoo artist, and all around good dude, James Spooner. James is the man responsible for the 2003 documentary on punk rock and its racially divided history called Afropunk, and has many other projects previously released, but he has a new book coming out on May 19th, 2022 called The High Desert which is an autobiographical graphic novel about growing up in Apple Valley, California and becoming a punk rocker. The book is a firestorm of the radical new music scene, growing up with separated parents, and dealing with racism and acceptance in White America in the 80's. In this episode, I have an excellent conversation with Jim from the DIY musical project Scoopski about his songs, his music videos, the birth of his new son, and the brand new album See You Soon which just came out on February 2nd, 2022. I liken his musical style to a mix between Weird Al Yankovic, Bloodhound Gang, and The Rentals / Weezer. So, if you like any of those bands, then you are going to want to press play on this exciting episode where we get to dig deeper into the mind of this unsigned rock artist who has put out 3 albums in 3 years, and does it incredibly well. Hello and welcome to the Powered By Rock podcast where we are going to be speaking with an absolute musical legend in my opinion. He is one of the four musicians I would put on my personal Mount Rushmore of greatest musicians of all time. A man who should really not even need an introduction, but he is not only a demigod of indie rock, but also a TV trivia game champion! That's right, I will be speaking with Tim Kasher from Cursive and The Good Life. I have to pinch myself a little bit, because I get to speak with one of my literal all-time favorite artists. Tim Kasher is on the show, and between Cursive, The Good Life, and his solo work, he has put out literally hundreds of songs that can take you on incredible emotional journeys.
