We think we all know the story of how Odd Fellowship began in North America: five brave souls, led by Thomas Wildey, held the first meeting in Baltimore in 1819 and, from there, Odd Fellowship exploded across the continent spreading friendship, love, and truth from sea to shining sea. The reality, though, has a lot more detail and challenges than what we know. Mike, Ainslie, and Toby delve into the history of the founding of our Order a couple centuries ago. They reveal some of the challenges of the young lodge and structure and highlight the members who helped build and grow Odd Fellowship beyond that first meeting, including the authors of the Rebekah Degree and the Patriarchs Militant Degree. The Shoutout goes to *another* new lodge, this time Citrus #118 in Florida. Owing to the length of this episode, the hosts decided to skip the Odd Podge but it will return in future, shorter episodes.
Unleash your inner snoop, with stories of people trying to get to the bottom of a mystery that's been hanging over them for years. When Darren Bernhardt and his sister Sandy started to clear out their childhood home after their dad passed away, at first it felt like they were snooping. Their dad was private, tight-lipped, and kind of a grump. But then they started finding things he'd tucked away in sock drawers and cupboards, that made them see their dad in a whole new light.Solving genealogy mysteries has become a bit of an obsession for Lauren Robilliard, who's helped hundreds of people track down biological family members. For this self-taught "super sleuth," it all started when she was a young girl who knew she was adopted, and wanting to find answers about who she is. When Now or Never producer James Chaarani bought a remote cabin in the woods with his partner, they got more than they were bargaining for — they inherited most of the belongings of the previous owner who lived (and tragically died) there. Since then, they've been trying to figure out who he was, and how to peacefully co-exist with the ghost of a dead man.Growing up near Larder Lake in northern Ontario, Jason Ploeger had always heard local rumours about a taxi cab that mysteriously ended up at the bottom of the lake. He takes us on an adventure of murky dives and unopened whiskey bottles, and tells us the surprising truth behind the legend.

This week on Grumpy Old Geeks, Jason and Brian dissect the latest tech and cultural news, starting with a TikTok tempest. The Supreme Court's decision to uphold a law potentially banning the app in the U.S. leaves the ball in Trump's court, while TikTok's CEO plans to attend his inauguration. As users flock to alternative Chinese apps and RedNote scrambles to hire English-speaking moderators, it seems the tech world is in chaos. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg faces lawsuits over using pirated materials to train AI and continues to delete links to competitors like Pixelfed. Over in Europe, Elon Musk's X is under scrutiny for its algorithm transparency, while celebs like Mark Ruffalo advocate for a fully open social media ecosystem. Add in news of Bluesky's new photo-sharing app, Mastodon's founder stepping back, and yet another study revealing rampant fakery in online job postings, and it's a wild ride.In Media Candy, the geeks dive into the gritty charm of Silo, the Broadway movie hit Wicked, and the nostalgia of Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action. They also discuss Special Forces: World's Toughest Test Season 3 and reminisce about Blue Thunder and its TV adaptation. On the music front, dream pop enthusiasts will love their take on The 30 Best Dream Pop Albums, while Marvel fans get the scoop on the Daredevil: Born Again trailer. Plus, a nod to Real Coffee with Scott Adams and the real tea on Neil Gaiman. Finally, in Apps & Doodads, they break down the fallout from Sonos' disastrous app launch and the FTC's decision to ban General Motors from selling driving data. Musk's antics make an appearance again with a bizarre spat involving leaked DMs and a revoked checkmark, and a curious gadget called the Gaming Pillow. Closing shout-outs honor legendary Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker and visionary filmmaker David Lynch, both gone but never forgotten.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Head over to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use the code "GOG" for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. Say his name five times in a mirror, and Candyman, a vengeful spirit born from love, betrayal, and unspeakable violence, will appear to continue his blood-soaked legend across generations.Darkness Syndicate members get the ad-free version. https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateInfo on the next LIVE SCREAM event. https://weirddarkness.com/LiveScreamInfo on the next WEIRDO WATCH PARTY event. https://weirddarkness.com/TVIN THIS EPISODE: If you look in a mirror and say his name five times, he will appear behind you, complete with a hook for a hand – covered in blood because his hand has been cut off. Isn't that romantic? No? Well, Clive Barker's 1992 horror cult classic “Candyman” actually began as a real-life love story. So how did it turn so gruesome and terrifying? (The Nightmarish Love Story Behind Horror's Candyman) *** The Enfield Poltergeist has become infamous thanks to Ed and Lorraine Warren and “The Conjuring” films. That took place in a house in Brimsdown, Enfield, London England. But on the other side of the pond there is an Enfield, Illinois. Not as well known as the one in England of course, but they still have a horror in their past. One that took place four years before the Enfield incident in London… about a terrifying creature that locals who were alive at the time still get goosebumps talking about. (The Horror of the Enfield, Illinois Monster) *** Complex family dynamics and an infatuated businessman ended in a murder that was covered up and remained hidden for three decades, buried in the grounds of the house at 10324 Canyon Road. (A Dark Secret Leads To a Death On Canyon Road) *** One girl decided to go by the name of Lila, because her true name was Delilah but she didn't want to be associated with that harlot in the Bible. The stories behind how people get nicknames can often be fascinating. So how do you supposed Margaret Dickson got tagged with the nickname of “Half Hangit Maggie”? (Half Hangit Maggie) *** The search for intelligent life in the universe has been a goal for decades, with everyone from NASA to SETI to backyard Ufologists looking to the skies, listening to various radio waves, hoping to catch just a glimpse, at least a hint of what we hope to find. But could it be that we're looking in the wrong place? Perhaps the extraterrestrial intelligence, the more advanced life we seek to make contact with, is not out there somewhere… but it is here somewhere… already on Earth? (There Might Be Intelligent Life On Earth After All) *** Too often we are let down by those whom we look up to – and that goes doubly so for those in religious authority. How many well-known religious figures have toppled over after being exalted on high by the followers they so skillfully misled? Jim Bakker, Robert Tilton, Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart… but none compare to Major Thomas Weir – a strict Presbyterian known for his powerful prayers, earning him a reputation for being one of the most saintly men of his time. But then he made a confession so outlandish, so ghastly and profane, they executed him. Artisanal miners prospect for toxic rare-earth metals on the edges of huge corporate pit mines, alongside alien-looking metallophyte plants found nowhere else in the world. Cloak and dagger CIA manoeuvring from the Cold War reverberates into the present. Workers separated by oceans, empires and supply chains struggle to find ways to support each other. In Episode 74 we're joined by our friend, artist Roger Peet, to talk about his extraordinary work building solidarity with miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his family ties to the Congolese uranium production that ultimately made American empire possible, and the possibility of using art to shed light on histories usually left in the shadows. The title of this episode is borrowed from an exhibition of Roger's, which was titled ‘Dig Up the Sun'.Show NotesRoger's InstagramRoger's storeRoger's artist page on JustSeedsRoger's Congo work, collectedFirst They Mined for the Atomic Bomb. Witness how political betting and daily fantasy sports intersect in a comedic journey filled with sharp critiques and unexpected twists. Imagine political contests that resemble allegiances in sports rather than serious debates on policy, and get ready as we humorously challenge Nate Silver's approach to election forecasting. John Oliver's take on daily fantasy sports doesn't escape our playful scrutiny either, as we highlight the quirks of the American landscape while cheekily poking fun at the British monarchy. On this episode of The Story of Us, we are talking to classic archaeologist Dr. Flint Dibble, son of a famed Archaeologist, Harold Dibble, (now we know where he got his name right?) Working mostly with Ancient Greece and their eating habits by analyzing animal bone remains in midden heaps and in other locations throughout Ancient Greece, he has been crucial to the understanding of the changes that occurred in eating habits due to changes in society and climate. Along with this, thanks to what he learned from his father Harold, who did an extraordinary amount of work on Neanderthal burials, as well as the first Homo sapiens child burial yet discovered. Because of this, Dr. Flint has had a great deal to say about the pre prints, and documentary put out by the Naledi team. Goring up hearing about Neanderthals, burials, what is and is not required etc. he as well as being on some of the digs himself, Flint has a great deal to say, which you can watch on his channel, as he discusses the Naledi Saga as I like to call it, he even has one of the Peer Reviews on to discuss why the peer review team came to the conclusion that that they did. Watch, enjoy and remember that there is always more to learn!

David Givens is the Director of Archaeology at Jamestown Rediscovery [Historic Jamestowne] on the James River in the Tidewater region of Virginia. After a nightmarish reading of the trials of the early Jamestown colonists, we start at the beginning of an archaeological quest to find the lost 1607 fort; the first permanent English settlement in America, where the worlds of the English Empire & Powhatan Confederacy clashed, and the legends of John Smith & Pocahontas were born. After describing the rediscovery project, we head over land and water to Chief Powhatan's village, Werowocomoco, to hear of the indigenous preservation efforts underway. Then it's on to artifacts dug up over the decades: English pipes inspired by Native American design; foodways like iguanas and corn cobs found in middens & wells; glassworks; distilling & herbalism. For his story, David tells of his involvement in the disturbing discovery of colonial cannibalism dating back to a harrowing period called The Starving Time [1609-1610]. We end this epic episode on the first English-American wagon road and musings about reincarnation, the wheel of fortune, and Terrence Malick's film "The New World."Plan your trip to Historic JamestowneReading from The Jamestown Adventure: Accounts of the Virginia Colony, 1605-1614 edited by Ed SouthernMusic:"Daphne"Performed by The Telemann Society, Richard Schulze "Mr. Beveridge's Maggot"Performed by The Telemann Society, Richard Schulze Support Our Numinous Nature on Patreon.Follow Our Numinous Nature & my naturalist illustrations on InstagramCheck out my shop of shirts, prints, and books featuring my artContact: herbaceoushuman@gmail.com

The process of uprooting past feelings of hurt is difficult. It's even more painful to face our sin & deal with behavior that doesn't seem to go away no matter how hard we try to be “better”. The truth is we won't see progress unless we dig deep & deal with the roots of the issues in our life. Although a painful process, you don't have to dig it up alone! Be encouraged by this message from Pastor Lauren Daniel on the significance of getting to the root of the problem. Interview with Thomas Lamb, CEO of Myriad UraniumOur previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/myriad-uraniums-forgotten-uranium-deposits-offer-substantial-potentialRecording date: 4th March 2024Myriad Uranium offers investors a compelling opportunity to gain exposure to the strengthening uranium market through its prospective projects in Niger and the United States. The company's flagship asset is the Copper Mountain project in Wyoming, acquired in 2022. Extensive historical work by Union Pacific in the 1970s identified six uranium deposits with an estimated 15-30 million pounds of resources, as well as an exploration target of over 63 million pounds across two of the deposits. Importantly, recent analysis by Myriad has identified high-grade zones that were largely overlooked in the historical estimates, with grades up to 0.3% U3O8. These high-grade areas could drive a significant increase in the project's value.Myriad CEO Thomas Lamb commented, "There's high grade there - instead of 200 to 600 parts per million (ppm), there's thousand ppm up to 3,000 ppm if you focus on the veins." The company is working to bring the historical estimates up to current standards, with a focus on delineating the high-grade mineralization. In addition to the known resources, Copper Mountain offers substantial exploration upside. Myriad plans to aggressively drill the project to expand the resource base. The extensive historical database will allow for rapid and cost-effective advancement of the project towards development. While Copper Mountain is the near-term focus, Myriad also holds a significant land position in Niger, Africa's top uranium-producing nation. The company's 1,800 square kilometer portfolio is located in the heart of the Tim Mersoi Basin, home to some of the world's largest and highest-grade uranium deposits. These projects provide long-term optionality on a world-class uranium district as Niger's political situation stabilizes following a coup in 2023.The outlook for the uranium industry is robust, driven by growing demand for carbon-free baseload power and supply constraints caused by years of underinvestment. Utilities are increasingly looking to secure long-term supply contracts, but are finding a lack of shovel-ready projects to fill their needs. This is creating a widening structural deficit in the uranium market, which should put continued upward pressure on prices.Myriad is well-positioned to capitalize on the uranium bull market. With a market cap of just C$12 million, the company is significantly undervalued based on the potential of its assets. The combination of near-term production potential at Copper Mountain and long-term optionality in Niger makes Myriad a unique investment opportunity in the uranium space. As the company advances its projects and the uranium price continues to rise, Myriad has the potential to deliver substantial returns for shareholders.—Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.com/companies/myriad-uraniumSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com
IN THIS EPISODE: If you look in a mirror and say his name five times, he will appear behind you, complete with a hook for a hand – covered in blood because his hand has been cut off.
