J-Bunny sits down with Shane Chikeles to discuss his career in music, starting with his time in bands, such as Drowning Room, Joshua, and Park Ranger, and how that led to him joining The Ataris. They also discuss how playing with the band Cu Dubh led to Shane playing at renaissance faires, which then led to making that his full-time job with the bands Boom Boom Shake, Opa!, and Shake, Rattle, and Rogue. Shane also gives his thoughts on the current state of the music industry, and the struggle trying to figure out how to send people home from shows with music, when most cars no longer have CD players. Podcast intro "Rock Intro 3" courtesy of audionautix.com. "Just Can't Change" is from the Joshua album A Whole New Theory, and "Greenman" is from the self-titled album by Boom Boom Shake. Both songs were included with the permission of Shane Chikeles.

In episode 279 of the podcast, we dig into the classic Ataris album from 2003, ‘So Long, Astoria'.We talk our early memories of the album, where the band was at around the time, the heavy themes of nostalgia throughout the record, and much more. This album was huge for us in the moment, and it continues to be one we come back to time and time again. We start the episode with a little talk surrounding how we used to consume music around the time of this record's release (2003). Vin Diesel shared some major Fast & Furious news at his surprise appearance at FuelFest LA in Pomona, Calif., joining co-star and friend Tyrese Gibson who shared the moment on his Instagram. · MISCThe Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding was this week, but the real show stealer was Sydney Sweeney. Despite the attendance of guests like Tom Brady, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah, Bill Gates, and most of the Kardashians . . . a source says Sydney was, quote, "the most sought-after person" to hang out with. AND FINALLYThe '90s weren't THAT long ago, but the culture moves fast. Some of the movies and TV shows that came out back then haven't aged well. 1. "Seinfeld": There's a lot to offend modern sensibilities, but someone specifically mentioned the episode where Jerry was allegedly assaulted by his dentist while he was under, and it was played for laughs. 2. "Doogie Howser, M.D.": Quote, "The first episode has an adult woman pretending to seduce him . . . The second episode is about an adult woman trying to get pregnant by him."3. "Will & Grace": Quote, "I could never get through one episode without feeling that my queerness was being used as a punchline . . . being gay was either silly, or you were doomed to be alone and sad."4. "Friends": Quote, "Fat jokes, gay jokes, everyone in New York is white inexplicably, Ross sleeps with a student, sleeps with his school librarian in high school, tries to kiss his cousin, violates Rachel's boundaries . . . etc." Another brought up the transphobic stuff involving Chandler's parents.5. "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air": This person REALLY went off on Uncle Phil. Quote, "Will was a teenager dating grown women every other episode, and Phil and Vivian just let it happen. "Phil claimed to be pro-Black but voted for Reagan twice, was ashamed of his background as a pig farmer, and detested 'lowly' and working-class Black people."He blamed Will for everything that went wrong, even if he had nothing to do with it. And he was sexist and controlling AF, trying to forbid a 25-year-old Hilary from posing for Playboy or Ashley from doing anything."6. "Mrs. Doubtfire": "Between the transphobia and the part where he makes a pact with the older two kids to keep it a secret from their mom, it hasn't aged well."AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Ataris were formed in 1996 in Anderson, Indiana. The Ataris originally began as the home demo-recording project of lead singer guitarist Kristopher Roe and guitarist Jasin Thomason. The group were discovered a year later by Vandals founder Joe Escalante after songwriter Kristopher Roe met him at a concert. Impressed by his demo tape, Escalante asked Roe to put together a full band and record for his label, Kung-Fu Records. Roe then picked up and moved to California in search of bandmates. (Thomason decided to stay in Indiana), and eventually added guitarist Marco Peña, bassist Mike Davenport, and former Lagwagon drummer Derrick Plourde. Plourde was later replaced by new drummer Chris Knapp. We catch up with founder Kristopher Roe in this fun episode! website www.TheAtarisBand.com social media www.Instagram.com/theataris www.Facebook.com/TheAtaris About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. This week, we're delighted to be joined by John J. Ryan from the unstoppable force that is Keep Flying. If you've seen them live, you know exactly why they're one of the most exciting and unique bands in the punk scene right now—blending high-energy punk rock with saxophones, trombones, and an unrelenting stage presence. We first met the band at last year's Four Chord Music Festival and instantly hit it off,so it was a real treat to catch up with John. We chatted just ahead of the release of their powerful new album Time and Tide, which dropped on April 24. John walks us through the band's journey, their DIY ethic, and what the rest of 2025 looks like for Keep Flying. Spoiler: they're not slowing down. Nick Kennedy, SIO2PC and the ATR File Format Nick Kennedy is the creator of SIO2PC, the hardware and software combination that allowed Atari 8-bit computer users to use a PC as a peripheral. In 1989, this was unprecedented, a new way to connect the little Atari to the bigger world, to the (relatively) massive storage and speed of a computer running PC-DOS. For the first time, Ataris could use a PC as storage, RAM disk, and printer. Nick also created the .ATR file format, which quickly became the standard for using virtual floppy disks on Atari emulators. Nick also created 10502PC, a cable that let you connect an Atari floppy drive directly to a PC; and AtariCOM, a less well-known utility that allowed two Atari 8-Bit computers to communicate using the SIO and joystick ports. And, he created Atari-based amateur radio tools: a terminal program for packet radio, and Morse code keyer software, which he and I talked about in detail in our previous interview. This interview took place on November 1, 2024. From catching Metallica, ELO and Warrant live to sharing stories about my bass setup and what makes a song *great*, this episode has it all.
I caught up with the pop punk band, Handguns with Jake, Zach, Billy and Austin while they were on their way to Austin. They were gonna stop by Waco but I'm in Washington right now. So we talked on the phone and it was fun to catch up with my ole pal Jake Langley in his fried chicken, smash burger chef and owner adventures. In this episode: • Balancing personal passions, like restaurant ownership and record stores, with their love for music. • The DIY spirit of pop punk, forging their path while staying connected to their roots. • A deeper look into the members' personal lives, their projects outside of music, and their collective passion for creativity and community.
