The Somers Trial: Mackenzie's Defense, Dana's Support, and the Presidential Intervention. Richard Snow discusses how after the execution, the Navy initiated an inquiry. Richard Henry Dana fully supported Mackenzie, describing him as saintly and honorable. The court of inquiry agreed that Mackenzie had behaved honorably. However, Mackenzie surprisingly sought a formal court-martial because John Spencer and Seaman Small's wife were pressuring for a civil murder trial. The court-martial ran from February 2 to March 31 and initially concluded that Mackenzie was honorably acquitted and heroic. However, President Tyler intervened, refusing to endorse the verdict and believing Mackenzie should have been hanged as a murderer. Mackenzie was acquitted and avoided a murder trial, but his honor was tarnished. Snow recommends readers act as the jury to decide Mackenzie's actions. Retry

Muazh Ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه (S60) Muazh رضي الله عنه showed utmost patience when his son رضي الله عنه was martyred by the plague. Muazh رضي الله عنه himself was wounded in battle. On his deathbed, Muazh رضي الله عنه appeared to be uttering something. He elucidated: “My son came to me and told me The Messenger ﷺ, Angels (a.s), Saints and Martyrs will attend my Janazah then take me to Paradise”. The Messenger ﷺ [in part of a report]: “When a believers soul leaves his body, he is like a man out of prison. He roams on the Earth freely”. (This is for the souls of righteous believers). The more pious a person, the more he can roam. The lowest rank [thus every believer for definite] gets to see/know who is visiting them when they are in their graves. You only recognise the person if you knew them in real life however. Saintly souls can roam where they wish. So, what of Prophets! (a.s). The Messenger ﷺ for definite could attend the Janazah of Muazh رضي الله عنه.

Darryl McLellan's recent retirement announcement caught a few racing mates by surprise. It was well known that the 54 year old was still enjoying his riding and happy to travel big mileage if the mounts were there. He aggravated an old shoulder problem in an accident at Port Macquarie last December which sidelined him for five months. After just 22 rides on the comeback trail he knew the troublesome shoulder was destined to bring the curtain down on his very successful career. “Digger” is still dealing with the frustration of having to stop before he was ready, but kindly consented to join us on the podcast. The veteran jockey says he's having fresh scans currently to determine the long range future of a shoulder he injured initially in 2009. He takes us back to a Sunday meeting at Port Macquarie in late December when a fall from a “bucking bronco” aggravated a fifteen year old injury. Darryl reflects on his very first job as an apprentice spray painter. Workmates constantly encouraged him to consider a future as a jockey. He looks back on his time with top Muswellbrook trainer Pat Farrell who enjoyed a reputation as a master tutor of junior riders. Darryl says he hadn't ridden a horse when his apprenticeship began, but was riding in barrier trials after four months. He remembers his first race ride at Quirindi and his first winning ride at Kembla Grange.   He acknowledges the first better than average horse he got to ride. McLellan looks back on the thrill of winning the 1992/93 Sydney apprentices premiership. He says his nickname “Digger” evolved during his spray painting apprenticeship and has never left him.  Darryl talks of the tremendous advantage he had over most jockeys by being able to ride at the limit weight. That ability brought him the ride on Magic Of Money in the 1995 Galaxy, his first Gr 1 success. He remembers his ride on the same horse in the Doomben $10,000. He thought he was on a winner approaching the hometurn. In the same year he was thrilled when Bart Cummings got him to ride a horse at a Saturday Newcastle meeting. How could he have known what Saintly was to achieve over the next 18 months. “Digger's” ability to ride light got him on Iron Horse in a very strong Epsom of 1996. He ran third to a couple of talented horses. He looks back on an approach by John Hawkes seeking his services for Lease in the Doncaster. Take Sunline out and he wins the famous Gr 1 event. The veteran hasn't forgotten his 2000 Newcastle Cup win on Silent Impact. He says he's never seen a bigger crowd at the Broadmeadow  Racecourse. “Digger” values the bragging rights he derived when he won the 2001 Warwick Stakes on Lonhro. It was his one and only ride on the great horse.  He looks back on his Chairman's Hcp/Sydney Cup double on the Neville McBurney trained Henderson Bay. Darryl fondly remembers an association with the hugely talented Court Command. One of several wins was the 2006 Golden Rose before the race was elevated to Gr 1 status. He remembers the barrier trial fall at Newcastle which was the catalyst for his longtime shoulder issues. He resumed about 8 months later only to be involved in another fall on the same track, aggravating the old injury. “Digger” talks about a five year hiatus and the sudden urge to resurrect his riding career. He reflects on the five years since his return to the riding ranks. Opportunities haven't been as plentiful, but he's enjoyed every moment.

Most of us will forever love Rosco. However, while difficult and precarious at times, it was pretty pleasing to enter the Optus Stadium safari park Sunday and take down a big game Lyon. Time to Restump Podcast the successful hunting expedition. It is still both traumatic and reassuring to revisit our previous encounter against Rosco and his Saintly pride. While we were largely our own worst enemy on the day, they brutally ripped us to shreds in what was an unwatchable massacre. However, fast forward eight weeks and we righted the wrongs and made amends.Do the subsequent positives, including the retributive win yesterday, outweigh the negatives of that fateful day eight weeks ago? Did we need the mindset realignment mauling? We'll never know but going into yesterday, I'm not sure we'd have been on the end of a five-game winning streak had we not suffered that troubling experience. The great man did take us to a grand final… did our former coach inadvertently do us another favour? In or beyond the football world everyone at some stage in their lives has to take their beneficial beating. Our core group took theirs eight weeks back. It was a humiliating and embarrassing belting on the big stage that put the climactic cap on some catastrophic form. The depths of despair are often where the healing begins and change is born, but it takes some sort of catalytic event to arrive at the arena of realisation. It's evident by the reported hard spoken truths, the subsequent soul searching and the carrying of energising scars since, that the previous Saints game was our season defining moment of mortality. Yesterday's performance only put an exclamation point on it.The team we were eight weeks back to the team we have been since is unrecognisable. We're not in the top echelon yet, but we're a different unit, a more psychologically pro-active collective exuding energised initiative. We're now a group of personal responsibility taking, team-oriented and driven individuals. We've now arrived at the end of the rare period in which we made hay while the home ground sun shone. In a recent era, within this season, the thought of vital wins would have rendered us jittery, robbing us of maximising the benefit from the advantageous run of home ground games. But while it has been a great yield, the harvest is far from complete. While our hopes of hitting back and securing 4 points of retribution were realised, the victory was more important for bigger fish to fry reasons.  We're sitting in 6th but we've got three teams breathing down our necks, Gold Coast have a game in hand and we're all but occupying the equal lowest percentage of the top 9 teams. Clearly there is still plenty of work to be done, but you get the feeling we're up for the challenge.Time for a further chat about the actual game on the pod in more depth... thankfully not the despair level depth! So, for whatever reason, if your ears have recently done you wrong and you're looking for revenge on them, our nonsensical purple noise is a fitting retributive punishment.Send us a textSupport the show

Christine Rich has learned the Saints are working for her in a very real way.  A number of years ago, Christine didn't understand why she felt drawn to choose Saint Valentine as her Saint of the Year. Months later, God caught her attention when she realized that the morning she signed papers to leave the large, Catholic company she co-founded was Valentine's Day. After signing the papers, Christine went to pray at a local convent where Venerable Patrick Peyton had spent his final years. Christine even sat and prayed in his chair. Years later, Christine's daughter and son-in-law would name their first child Peyton. Peyton was born on Valentine's Day.  Listen to this Easter podcast and learn how the Saints are working for you, too! Rock paper scissors, the universally utilized tool that has decided the course of action for the world's most complex problems for generations. Time to Restump Podcast the meeting of old friends, now Saintly foes at Marvel. We'll get to the changes this week but, first and foremost, they are absolutely irrelevant. All we need to concentrate on is that we pick up this Friday night from where we left off last Friday night. If we bring that same level of effort, that desire and intensity, the Saints will need a prayer. However, while that may be the case, we're still thrilled to get Luke Jackson back in the team, lining up alongside and synchronizing with Sean Darcy, to once again relaunch team “JackArce.” Should we spare a thought for poor Rowan Marshall? He could be in for one hell of a day.Unfortunately, we can't fit 24 players into 23 positions, so the very unlucky Oscar McDonald has had to make way.  On the Saints side of the ledger, we see young West Aussie and Claremont kid Hugh Boxshall, getting the call up to make his debut. We wish him well, but not too well.We lock horns with our beloved former coach Rosco Lyon once again, but there is no time for emotional sentiment or pleasantries! We simply need to focus, put on our game faces and, if we're running past the Saints dugout, probably our ear muffs after the hearing impairment suffered by poor Hugo Garcia last week!  There are no crisis meetings, robust conversations and interventions required at Cockburn! The poor downtrodden West Coast chaps have fallen off the cliff and into the abyss. Does that mean it's time for the Chief to churn out another supportive Neighbourhood Watch chapter? Let's hope not!And speaking of things we hope aren't there, but are, the Restump Investment Club is gathering steam. The weekly multis and term deposit bets are in once more. Two Friday night big stages in a row! It must be some sort of record for us? We made the most of last week but it'll count for absolutely Bo Didley if we revisit old but recent habits, tomorrow night. Not exactly long until bouncedown but if you haven't got paint to watch dry, grass to watch grow or a messy sock drawer to tidy, feel free to waste 30 plus minutes with us on the pod. Send us a textSupport the show

Full Text of ReadingsSaturday of the Third Week of Lent Lectionary: 242The Saint of the day is Saint Ludovico of CasoriaSaint Ludovico of Casoria's Story Born in Casoria, near Naples, Arcangelo Palmentieri was a cabinet-maker before entering the Friars Minor in 1832, taking the name Ludovico. After his ordination five years later, he taught chemistry, physics, and mathematics to younger members of his province for several years. In 1847, he had a mystical experience which he later described as a cleansing. After that, he dedicated his life to the poor and the infirm, establishing a dispensary for the poor, two schools for African children, an institute for the children of nobility, as well as an institution for orphans, the deaf, and the speechless, and other institutes for the blind, elderly, and for travelers. In addition to an infirmary for friars of his province, he began charitable institutes in Naples, Florence, and Assisi. He once said, “Christ's love has wounded my heart.” This love prompted him to great acts of charity. To help continue these works of mercy, in 1859 he established the Gray Brothers, a religious community composed of men who formerly belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order. Three years later, he founded the Gray Sisters of St. Elizabeth for the same purpose. Toward the beginning of his final, nine-year illness, Ludovico wrote a spiritual testament which described faith as “light in the darkness, help in sickness, blessing in tribulations, paradise in the crucifixion, and life amid death.” The local work for his beatification began within five months of Ludovico's death. He was beatified in 1993 and canonized in 2014. Reflection Saintly people are not protected from suffering, but with God's help they learn how to develop compassion from it. In the face of great suffering, we move either toward compassion or indifference. Saintly men and women show us the path toward compassion. It's break-in time for another streaming option in the constant effort to keep moving and get the message out. Using many platforms defrays targeting efforts. Twitch TV, with some technical issues, is next up. Have a look here: https://www.twitch.tv/toremaras. First is a reading of Chapter 4. Then a discussion on faith. Leonardo's famous Italian phrase defines knowing how to see. See beyond the obvious, and your own blind spots. Saintly discussions and the perspective of a friendly monk. The politics combining religion and influencers is a potent gaslighting mix. Those who mock faith will suffer their fate. The Chapter 5 reading follows. Remember, it may sound cliche, but love is always the answer.
