Conrad Franz of World War Now talks geopolitics, religion, and globalism analyzing current conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine through the lens of Orthodox Christian prophecy. Turkey appears to be next on the chopping block. Both Western powers and revisionist states like Russia and China are implementing similar technocratic controls. North America will morph into the Technate. Franz shares firsthand observations from his time in Russia and the Donbas, detailing the human cost of the war. The first bloke to give me a wrap for the talents of Justin Sheehan was John O'Shea. It was 2000 and John's solo training career had just begun at Warwick Farm. Sheehan was then 28 and although struggling with weight issues, was quickly establishing himself with some very discerning trainers. O'Shea described him as an “innately talented rider.” Just eight years later Justin's career was all over as the ravages of the sweat box began to affect his health. In his relatively short time as a professional jockey he stamped himself as one of the best in the land. The 54 year old Queensland born horseman joins us on the podcast this week to look back on the highs and lows of an amazing twenty one year career as a professional jockey. Justin begins by talking about some recent health issues. He looks back on fifteen years as an in demand trackwork rider at Warwick Farm. Justin has clear recollections of his final day at the races- two unplaced rides at Rosehill in 2008. His final win at Kembla Grange remains near and dear to his heart. He takes us back to childhood and memories of the equine skills of his late father. The former jockey recalls the family's move from Charleville to Dalby and an early introduction to thoroughbreds, albeit at an illegal age. He looks back on his first race ride, his first win and the experience gained riding on some dry and dusty tracks in the Northern Territory. Sheehan remembers his excitement when awarded a life changing NT Government Apprentice Grant which took him to Adelaide for a three month stint with trainer Danny Callaghan. He looks back on a freak run of success and the opportunity to partner a marvellous old sprinter in nine wins. Justin remembers his transfer to Kembla Grange trainer Bernie Howlett. He recalls being very impressed with the talents of John O'Shea when the former Queenslander first began his training career at Warwick Farm. Justin talks of his two race rides on budding champion Saintly. He talks of his engagement to Ann Maree and the beginning of an association with top filly Kenbelle, then trained by his future father-in-law Kevin Robinson. Justin takes us through his 1996 Oaks win on Kenbelle. Justin remembers two race rides on “champion in waiting” Tie The Knot. To this day he wonders what might have been, had things worked out a little differently. The former ace jockey remembers with sadness the horrific Ipswich race fall in which eight horses crashed in the backstraight. On a brighter note he looks back on his sudden engagement for genuine sprinter Adam and a Gr 1 win first up. This was the horse at the centre of his first overseas trip. We devote ample time to Justin's review of his exciting involvement with Universal Prince- four Gr 1 wins and one freakish fall in Singapore.  He pays tribute to three other talented horses he got to ride for different trainers. Justin's unrelenting weight struggles were well known to racing people. He looks back on the horrors of constant wasting.  Justin and Ann Maree are the proud parents of 23 year old Darby Sheehan. Dad says Darby hasn't inherited the racing genes. This is an interesting chat with a former jockey who left an indelible mark in a brief but brilliant career.

"America Will Become Orthodox!" Saintly Prophecy or How To Read the Church Fathers in Context?

A single sentence from a saint can inspire a whole generation, or mislead it. We open with the line many Orthodox Christians have heard, “Saint Paisios said America will become Orthodox,” then slow the story down to ask the question most of us skip: what was actually said, to whom, through what translation, and with what intent? That one case becomes a clear window into how patristic quotes and saint sayings spread online, especially when memes replace sources and confidence replaces context.Translations shape theology. We dig into why older patristic translations can smuggle in legalistic language, and why terms like “atonement” and “substitution” carry baggage.Cloud of Witnesses, Jeremy Jeremiah, Mario Andrew, and James St. Simon talk with Father Joseph Lucas about how patristic quotes get distorted and how to read the Church Fathers in context without turning memes into theology. We trace how the Orthodox Church leans on consensus, careful sourcing, and prayerful practice so our reading leads to repentance rather than argument.• the Saint Paisios “America will become Orthodox” quote and why its original context is more tentative• why unsupported “floating quotes” should not shape doctrine or spiritual decisions• authority in tradition through ecumenical councils and the consensus of the Fathers• reading individual Fathers through the lens of the wider patristic tradition• why Saint Augustine needs careful, contextual reading alongside the Greek Fathers• the difference between modern online apologetics and patristic apologetics with oversight• why ancient rhetorical attacks do not translate well to today's debates• how translation choices can import legalistic or forensic connotations• why “the theologian is one who prays” matters and how Saint Mary of Egypt models itPlease, if you haven't already, give this video a like. Let us know your thoughts down below. Subscribe if you want more content like this. If you haven't bought the book yet please go check it out I would recommend it highly. You can find this entire conversation at our Patreon right now.Father Joseph Lucas, author of How To Read The Holy Fathers, helps us build a practical framework for reading the Church Fathers and the wider Orthodox tradition responsibly. We talk about patristic consensus, why ecumenical councils carry unique weight, and why later “compiler” saints can guide ordinary readers toward what the Church has truly received. We also tackle tough edges like how to approach Saint Augustine carefully, how to think about figures like Origen, and why you cannot build a full Orthodox theology on one favorite author. We then turn to Orthodox apologetics today: what it gets right, what it risks, and why ancient debate tactics do not map neatly onto modern online arguments. We close with translation and theology language, including how certain English terms can carry legalistic baggage, and we return to the heart of the Fathers: theology that forms prayer, repentance, and transformation, beautifully embodied in Saint Mary of Egypt. That “famous” Church Father quote might be fake or twisted. We talk with Fr. Joseph Lucas about reading the Holy Fathers in context, spotting meme theology, and staying inside the Church's consensus.Questions about Orthodoxy? Full Text of Readings Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion Lectionary: 37 and 38 The Saint of the day is Saint Ludovico of Casoria Saint Ludovico of Casoria's Story Born in Casoria, near Naples, Arcangelo Palmentieri was a cabinet-maker before entering the Friars Minor in 1832, taking the name Ludovico. After his ordination five years later, he taught chemistry, physics, and mathematics to younger members of his province for several years. In 1847, he had a mystical experience which he later described as a cleansing. After that, he dedicated his life to the poor and the infirm, establishing a dispensary for the poor, two schools for African children, an institute for the children of nobility, as well as an institution for orphans, the deaf, and the speechless, and other institutes for the blind, elderly, and for travelers. In addition to an infirmary for friars of his province, he began charitable institutes in Naples, Florence, and Assisi. He once said, “Christ's love has wounded my heart.” This love prompted him to great acts of charity. To help continue these works of mercy, in 1859 he established the Gray Brothers, a religious community composed of men who formerly belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order. Three years later, he founded the Gray Sisters of St. Elizabeth for the same purpose. Toward the beginning of his final, nine-year illness, Saint Ludovico of Casoria wrote a spiritual testament which described faith as “light in the darkness, help in sickness, blessing in tribulations, paradise in the crucifixion, and life amid death.” The local work for his beatification began within five months of Saint Ludovico of Casoria's death. He was beatified in 1993 and canonized in 2014. Reflection Saintly people are not protected from suffering, but with God's help they learn how to develop compassion from it. In the face of great suffering, we move either toward compassion or indifference. Saintly men and women show us the path toward compassion.Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

The Somers Trial: Mackenzie's Defense, Dana's Support, and the Presidential Intervention. Richard Snow discusses how after the execution, the Navy initiated an inquiry. Richard Henry Dana fully supported Mackenzie, describing him as saintly and honorable. The court of inquiry agreed that Mackenzie had behaved honorably. However, Mackenzie surprisingly sought a formal court-martial because John Spencer and Seaman Small's wife were pressuring for a civil murder trial. The court-martial ran from February 2 to March 31 and initially concluded that Mackenzie was honorably acquitted and heroic. However, President Tyler intervened, refusing to endorse the verdict and believing Mackenzie should have been hanged as a murderer. Mackenzie was acquitted and avoided a murder trial, but his honor was tarnished. Snow recommends readers act as the jury to decide Mackenzie's actions. Retry

Months later, God caught her attention when she realized that the morning she signed papers to leave the large, Catholic company she co-founded was Valentine's Day. After signing the papers, Christine went to pray at a local convent where Venerable Patrick Peyton had spent his final years. Christine even sat and prayed in his chair. Years later, Christine's daughter and son-in-law would name their first child Peyton. Peyton was born on Valentine's Day.  Listen to this Easter podcast and learn how the Saints are working for you, too! Full Text of ReadingsSaturday of the Third Week of Lent Lectionary: 242The Saint of the day is Saint Ludovico of CasoriaSaint Ludovico of Casoria's Story Born in Casoria, near Naples, Arcangelo Palmentieri was a cabinet-maker before entering the Friars Minor in 1832, taking the name Ludovico. Toward the beginning of his final, nine-year illness, Ludovico wrote a spiritual testament which described faith as “light in the darkness, help in sickness, blessing in tribulations, paradise in the crucifixion, and life amid death.” The local work for his beatification began within five months of Ludovico's death. He was beatified in 1993 and canonized in 2014. Reflection Saintly people are not protected from suffering, but with God's help they learn how to develop compassion from it. In the face of great suffering, we move either toward compassion or indifference. Saintly men and women show us the path toward compassion.
