Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.02.16.528856v1?rss=1 Authors: Beitchman, J. A., Krishna, G., Bromberg, C. A., Thomas, T. C. Abstract: Aspects of glutamate neurotransmission implicated in normal and pathological conditions are often evaluated using in vivo recording paradigms in rats anesthetized with isoflurane or urethane. Urethane and isoflurane anesthesia influence glutamate neurotransmission through different mechanisms; however real-time outcome measures of potassium chloride (KCl)-evoked glutamate overflow and glutamate clearance kinetics have not been compared within and between regions of the brain. In the following experiments, in vivo amperometric recordings of KCl-evoked glutamate overflow and glutamate clearance kinetics (uptake rate and T80) in the cortex, hippocampus and thalamus were performed using glutamate-selective microelectrode arrays (MEAs) in young adult male, Sprague-Dawley rats anesthetized with isoflurane or urethane. Potassium chloride (KCl)-evoked glutamate overflow was similar under urethane and isoflurane anesthesia in all brain regions studied. Analysis of glutamate clearance determined that the uptake rate was significantly faster (53.2%, p less than 0.05) within the thalamus under urethane compared to isoflurane, but no differences were measured in the cortex or hippocampus. Under urethane, glutamate clearance parameters were region dependent, with significantly faster glutamate clearance in the thalamus compared to the cortex but not the hippocampus (p less than 0.05). No region dependent differences were measured for glutamate overflow using isoflurane. These data support that amperometric recordings of glutamate under isoflurane and urethane anesthesia result in mostly similar and comparable data. However, certain parameters of glutamate uptake vary based on choice of anesthesia and brain region. Special considerations must be given to these areas when considering comparison to previous literature and when planning future experiments. Copy rights belong to original authors. This week I review the new Titleist Tour Speed golf balls. The Tour Speed is a lower priced ball that still has a Urethane cover and new faster core. Very long off the tee but still offering good greenside control. Hideki wears the Asics Pro M Standard golf shoes and they are now available in the USA. The Pro M offers a ton of support and even more traction in a traditional look and feel. Stiffer than the Asics sport models but very comfortable once you break them in.

In this episode, I have the privilege of speaking with the band URETHANE about how the four punk rock veterans (Tim Fennelly, Steve Caballero, Chad Ruiz and Dylan Wade) came together bonded over coffee, ramen and Steve's own juice to create the best new band of 2021. We talk about their new album Chasing Horizons, their music, the videos, but also a lot of great conversation about punk music in general, and I had to come clean about my hesitancy to listen to their band as I thought Steve might be using the name to pump the band up without merit. Boy, what a shmuck I am. The music speaks for itself and rocks as hard as any punk album that has come out in the last decade. For the first episode of the Then And Now Podcast, I interviewed the legendary rolling artist, Chris Peel. Chris played a huge behind-the-scenes role during the late 90s to mid-2000s in the aggressive inline skating industry. Growing up in Wakefield, in the UK, he started designing t-shirt's for Puberty Clothing before landing a job with DNA magazine. He then made his way stateside to San Diego, California, in 2000 to work for and design Daily Bread Magazine. In San Diego, he created the initial branding, image, and logos for Ground Control, Rat Tail Distribution, 4x4 Urethane, Vicious Bearings, and Nimh skates.Chris is a long-time friend who also designed the Big Wheel Blading logo for me in 2017. We haven't had much contact these last few years, so I thought it would be fun to contact him to catch up and reminisce on our years in San Diego, working at Daily Bread together and teaming up on many projects for Rat Tail, and it's brands.Do you enjoy this podcast?Become a Patreon Member or Make a PayPal DonationShow Notes:00:00 - Introduction03:55 - When Chris and I first met at the 1999 British Nationals04:42 - The beginnings, The Jaggers and Re-Hab Skatepark08:50 - Chris's Interest in Art, Designing for Puberty Clothing and DNA Magazine14:28 - Moving to San Diego to design Daily Bread Magazine18:28 - Meeting Jon Elliott, Jon's Daily Bread Interview, Ground Control22:55 - What the Ground Control sickle represents25:29 - The Rat Tail Years28:35 - Favorite Daily Bread Cover?29:42 - Moving back to San Diego, his favorite memories of living there34:50 - Leaving Daily Bread, moving to Orange County, and working for Haymarket40:00 - Moving to Richmond, aggressive skating less, getting big wheel blades, living in Alameda44:50 - Reminiscing on the crazy party we ended up at when visiting the Bay Area47:14 - What Chris is up to now, working at One Medical49:00 - Favorite projects that Chris has worked on51:30 - On becoming a United States citizen52:35 - The start of Vicious, the first tour, the Medusa stencil54:51 - Rat Tail, the state of the industry in the 2000s, Them Skates1:02:20 - bigwheelblading.com1:09:57 - Jan's Vermonting YouTube channel1:14:15 - OutroYou can watch these podcasts as videos on the Then And Now Youtube channel. We had the pleasure of interviewing Urethane over Zoom video! Pop-punk outfit URETHANE featuring legendary Hall of Fame professional skateboarder and guitarist Steve Caballero has signed to Cyber Tracks. Their debut album Chasing Horizons was produced, engineered, and mixed by Cameron Webb (Motörhead, Megadeth, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Pennywise) and is due out on September 24, 2021. The band will be touring as well including some festival appearances. The album title was derived from the song “Wyoming” – a song about giving up, running away, and starting over. “There is a line where the character is on an open road chasing the horizon and it just made sense,” explains bassist Chad Ruiz. “During the short life of this band we have been chasing horizons non-stop. It's that kind of fun feeling you get when you're just out on the road going for it. We are very blessed to be chasing horizons.”Chasing Horizons is jam-packed with catchy choruses and melodic hooks that range from mid-tempo sing-a-longs to aggressive fist-pumping screamers. Also, it was written during quarantine so the lyrical theme leans a bit dark. From depression (“Gravity”) to narcissism (“Avalanches” feat. Toby Morse of H2O) to the bad traits and genetics we inherit and are forced to live with (“Inheritance” feat. Jim Lindberg of Pennywise) to being your own worst enemy (“Love Letter Bombs”) to contentious relationships (“What You Get”) to love conquering even the darkest times (“What Becomes Of Us”) – lead vocalist and guitarist Tim Fennelly examines the challenges of everyday life.URETHANE formed during the infectious pandemic in 2020. The lineup consists of vocalist/guitarist Tim Fennelly (War Fever), guitarist Steve Caballero (The Faction, Odd Man Out, Soda), bassist Chad Ruiz (Skipjack), and drummer Dylan Wade (The Bombpops). Their musical roots are undeniably influenced by punk rock, pop-punk, and melodic hardcore. Chasing Horizons is set for a September 24, 2021 release via Cyber Tracks.URETHANETim Fennelly – Vocals/GuitarSteve Caballero – GuitarChad Ruiz – BassDylan Wade – DrumsWe want to hear from you! WELCOME to The WELLNESS FOURplay Podcast Episode 22: B.I.I. - What every Woman with Breast Implants, or considering them, MUST know! What every Woman with Breast Implants, or considering them, MUST know! We KNOW that Knowledge is the "foreplay" to your Wellness, so we want to make sure you are equipped to be your OWN Super Hero in your wellness journey! Equipping you with the KNOWLEDGE you need to have the HEALTH you so desire! 1. WHAT IS B.I.I.? Breast implant illness (BII) is a term that some women and doctors use to refer to a wide range of symptoms that can develop after undergoing reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation with breast implants. It is also sometimes referred to as autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA). BII can occur with any type of breast implant, including silicone gel-filled, saline-filled, smooth surface, textured surface, round, or teardrop-shaped. BII is not currently recognized as an official medical diagnosis, and there is no diagnosis code for it. It is poorly understood and hasn't been studied much as a unique condition. Implants are a foreign object placed inside of the body that our Immune Systems actively go to war with. May 2, 2019, the FDA issued a statement acknowledging breast implant illness and the systemic symptoms caused by silicone. Saline was said to be safe... WHY are they listed? The casing of the implant is SILICONE that contains: Methyl Ethyl Ketone (neurotoxin), Cyclohexanone (neurotoxin), Isopropyl Alcohol, Acetone (neurotoxin), Urethane, Polyvinyl Chloride (neurotoxin), Amine, Toluene (neurotoxin/carcinogen), Dichloromethane (carcinogen), Chloromethane, Ethyl Acetate (neurotoxin), Sodium Fluoride, Lead-based solder, Formaldehyde, Oakite (cleaning solvent), Methyl 2-cyanoacryltes, Ethylene Oxide (carcinogen), Xylene (neurotoxin) -2-Hexanone, Stearic Acid, Zinc Oxide, Phenol (neurotoxin), Benzene (carcinogen/neurotoxin), Lacquer Thinner, Epoxy Resin, Metal Cleaning Acid, Heavy metals, and more! 2. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF B.I.I. AND POTENTIAL MIS-DIAGNOSIS THAT CAN BE MADE? BII impacts each individual in a unique way. Symptoms can include: Joint and muscle pain, chronic fatigue, memory and concentration problems, breathing problems, sleep disturbance, rashes and skin problems, dry mouth and dry eyes, anxiety, depression, headache, hair loss, gastrointestinal problems and more. The symptoms can appear any time after implant surgery — some people develop symptoms immediately, while some develop them years later. A lot of the symptoms of BII are associated with autoimmune and connective tissue disorders, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma. Some people who have BII also get diagnosed with a specific autoimmune or connective tissue disorder, but many do not. 3. WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT B.I.I.? B.I.I. is a real illness that women with, and those thinking about, implants MUST know about. 100's of 1000's of women have already taken measures to recover from B.I.I. Marci has been working through many of the above symptoms for years, attributing them to incidents in her life: Car accidents, brain injuries, concussions, spine surgeries, full anesthesia 5 times in a 4-month span, pain medications, turning 50. Diet, exercise, sleep, heavy metal detox, mindset and Biohacking Synergy has kept her highly functional and undiagnosed, but not alleviated the symptoms she is living with. Marci's current list of symptoms: Fatigue, brain fog, memory loss, cognition problems, muscle pain and weakness, joint pain (neck, back, hands, feet, shoulder), weight problems (weight gain, bloating), inflammation, poor sleep, dry eyes with a decline in vision, low libido, headaches, ear ringing, metallic taste and dry mouth, mouth sores, sudden food intolerances, bouts of dehydration for no reason, numbness and tingling in left arm, cold and discolored feet/hands (Reynaud's Syndrome), pain and burning around left breast and underarm, depression, anxiety, mood swings, throat tickles with coughing fits, hair loss/dry hair, tingle and burning down left side of face/shoulder/arm. Thanks to prayer, resources and information showed up... Clubhouse Room Facebook Group with 140k+ members Website. The Heal is REAL Friend (personal experience & clients). Over the past 2 months, an awareness of BII has put her personally on a healing journey. 4. WHAT'S NEXT? In many, but not all cases, surgery to remove the breast implants improves or completely resolves the BII symptoms. Explant surgery scheduled for August 4, 2021 or sooner with God's grace. For more information on BII, Marci's Biohacking regimen, Heavy Metal detox smoothy, the Facebook Support Group and Website, please contact us at DondeeAndMarci.com and make sure to mention Episode 22 and what specific information you would like. #WellnessFourPlay #ProactiveWellness #BII #BreastImplantIllness #AutoImmuneDisorders #TheHealIsReal #TheBiohackingTeam #EmpoweredWellness #wellness

In today’s show, Chris interviews Dan Woolford, Director of Business Development, Virox Technologies Inc. Dan shares his professional journey that commenced right after the Student Works program. Dan’s extraordinary success saw him rise from the position of a sales rep to that of the company’s GM. What were some of the biggest challenges that Dan had to overcome as he transitioned from student life to professional life? And, how did his Student Works stint help him overcome these challenges? Dan reveals how he ended up working as Fusioncast’s only sales rep. He goes on to explain Fusioncast’s proprietary metal casting process that results in immense cost savings owing to the use of Urethane with bronze. Even though the company was wildly successful, Dan and other key stakeholders decided to sell the business to an American counterpart that showed a great deal of alignment and synergies. Dan brokered this deal, and eventually ended up working for another company some of the investors of FusionCast also owned. Why did Dan and his peers sell out their stake? And, why did Dan decide to move on to his new employer, Virox? This segment of the show will interest both entrepreneurs and professionals. This is an interesting case study that shows why and when a strategic sell-out might be the best option forward. We wrap up this show with Dan sharing some habits and values that he owes his success to. What did Dan have to change about himself as he went from being a university student to a value creator? Topics discussed include the importance of continuous learning, dynamism, and integrity. Tune in for some excellent insights!
