    Pros suffer demoralizing defeats while post-secondary teams triumph

    The Calgary Wild were thumped 6-0 by the Vancouver Rise on the weekend. We recap the game and muse about why the wheels have fallen off over the last few matches. It looks like the playoffs are going to be out of reach for the Wild. We talk about how this season hasn't really worked out.Cavalry FC also suffered a loss on the road this weekend. York United scored some nice goals and defended well and beat Cavalry 3-1. We discuss this lacklustre performance by the Cavs and how the playoff race is shaping up.The MRU Cougars soundly defeated the U of C Dinos 4-0 in the men's division Crowchild Classic.     We preview Cavalry FC's match in Toronto vs York United as well as the Calgary Wild's game against the Vancouver Rise. As their respective seasons are nearing the end both clubs are looking to make a final regular season push.While the pro seasons are nearing completion, post secondary soccer is starting to heat up. The first edition of the Crowchild Classic this season happens this weekend at McMahon where the Cougars men's team faces the Dinos. The women's teams are in Edmonton to face the Pandas and Griffins.The ACAC season kicks off with another Calgary derby as SAIT takes on Ambrose on Sunday afternoon. We take a closer look at the Trojans lineups as both the men's and women's teams are expected to have strong seasons.     Wild end losing skid, officiating controversies at Spruce Meadows

    The Calgary Wild grabbed three points in Ottawa to break their losing streak. The Wild had been unable to have much success against the Rapid previously, but on Saturday they executed well and improved some areas of their game that needed it.Cavalry FC and HFX Wanderers played to a goalless draw at Spruce Meadows this weekend. Considering no goals were scored there was a lot to talk about in this match, including a disallowed goal called back by a phantom foul and a hand ball in the box that wasn't called. We discuss our thoughts and impressions about the match.  We also talk about Jay Herdman's loan and Daan Klomp becoming a free agent.The Calgary Blizzard secured the bronze medal at the League One Canada Inter-Provincial Championships.     Our interview this week is with Moe El Gandour, who is the captain of the Calgary Blizzard League One Alberta team. This Blizzard team won the title last weekend, and we get a first hand account from him about the match. He gets into some of the details of why he decided to go for goal at the halfway line late in the match.Cavalry FC suffered another loss on Monday against Pacific. We recap that match and preview their game against Halifax on Saturday at Spruce Meadows. The Calgary Wild are off to Ottawa to play the Rapid on Saturday.     Blizzard sweep League One Alberta trophies, Wild show spark but come up short

    We recap the pivotal final weekend of League One Alberta matches.  The Calgary Blizzard won the women's division on Friday evening at Broadview with a win over Villains.  The Blizzard men's team needed to wait until Sunday afternoon to lift their trophy. They prevailed in the final showdown against the St. Albert Impact.  We talk about both matches.The Calgary Wild played AFC Toronto at McMahon on Saturday.  Their offence showed some signs of life but they weren't able to defeat Toronto, who had one of their goals come from Calgarian Kaylee Hunter.We preview Cavalry FC's match vs Pacific on Monday afternoon. For a 1-0 match there seemed to be a lot to talk about, including the stats, York 's current run of form, debuts for a couple of new players, questionable calls and a melee after the final whistle.In Montreal, the Calgary Wild also suffered defeat by a 2-0 score. The goals they allowed were reminiscent of what Cavalry conceded a couple of hours earlier.     Both of Calgary's pro clubs are back from their breaks.  The Calgary Wild are in Halifax to play the Tides on Monday while Cavalry FC plays Vancouver FC on Tuesday at Spruce Meadows.  The Cavs have a chance to advance to the next round of the Canadian Championship as they are currently tied with Vancouver 1-1 and the aggregate score will determine who advances.Our interview is with AFC Toronto forward Kaylee Hunter. Over the last couple of years, we've followed her career closely.  She starred with Blizzard for half a season in the 2023 League One Alberta season. After that she went to the Whitecaps Academy and has spent time with Canadian national youth teams.  Now she has signed with AFC Toronto and has been impressive in her first pro season.  We talk about her career thus far, how she decided to sign with Toronto and what it's like to be the youngest player on her team.We also have some League One Alberta game reviews and previews.     Cavalry FC has two upcoming matches at Spruce Meadows.
