Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast!In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Pacific FC, Vancouver FC, Vancouver Rise and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who are coming off a busy week, one that saw them take on the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo in an eight-day span. They did pretty well to get four points out of those matches, which were all on the road, but given the high standard they've set for themselves, they'll also feel they could've gotten even more out of those matches. Yet, as has been the case for much of the season, their attack has had some question marks surrounding it, while their defence has continued to play a big role in the results they've picked up. As a result, they'll look to avenge that set of results in their final MLS match before the World Cup break, which will see them take on San Diego FC on the road, in what is a rematch of the 2025 Western Conference final, with the Whitecaps aiming to pick up a big win to help maintain their lead atop the MLS Supporters' Shield standings. Otherwise, there's been a lot of news to follow elsewhere in BC, with the big one being the departure of head coach James Merriman from Pacific FC. World No. 13 Marina Stefanoni makes her In Squash debut, and it was an impressive one at that. One of four American women now ranked inside the PSA top 20, Marina has had a breakout season, climbing from just inside the top 30 to just outside the top 10, and picking up impressive wins and pushing some of the very best players in the world along the way. We dive into her rapid rise this season, the growing strength of women's squash in the United States, and how close she feels to consistently breaking into the very top group on tour. Marina also shares insights into her training approach, the mindset required to handle setbacks at the elite level, and what it takes to compete week in and week out against players like Nour El Sherbini, Amina Orfi, and Satomi Watanabe. We also talk about how exciting the NSL has been for her playing for the SoNo Sharks, and how much she's enjoyed playing under the unique NSL match play format. Today we meet with Ben Jones, an Electrical & Manufactory Technician for NearSpace Launch in Upland Indiana. A recently graduate of Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of science in electrical engineering, Ben joined NSL in May of 2025 after participating in their DreamBig Project. Ben's university team joined five other university teams who earned payload space on a .5U CubeSat. Ben helped found his university's first space program where they worked with pocketqubes and he also participated with the University Nanosatellite Program in Albuquerque designing a 3U cubesat. We look forward to hearing about his new career fresh out of school and know you will enjoy hearing about his journey as well.
