Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps men's team, who had a big week of action in both league and cup play. Of course, their biggest achievement of them all? Defeating Toronto FC on penalties in the Canadian Championship final to give the Whitecaps their third straight Voyageurs Cup crown and fourth overall. It was far from the Whitecaps' best performance, but that showcased their growth as a team, as they still found a way to win despite that. From there, they had to turn their focus back to MLS play, which didn't go as planned as they drew the Portland Timbers 1-1 in a game they probably should've won, and they dive into why that is the case. Now, they get set for their next test, a crucial home clash against the Seattle Sounders, kicking off a crucial stretch of four MLS games to end the year. Lastly, they finish with some Whitecaps women's chatter, as their women's League 1 BC side continued their adventure through the Concacaf Champions Cup with a home clash against NWSL side San Diego Wave at BC Place this past week, and they share their thoughts on how that one went down. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

They relive the Miracle in Montreal, the 2009 Can Champ Final where TFC overcame a 4 goal deficit to stun the Montreal Impact 6-1 and lift the first trophy in TFC history. Tales of playing with Danny Dichio, Dwayne De Rosario and Amado Guevara are told. Robinson talks about his transition in to coaching, his five years as Vancouver Whitecaps manager and working with a 15 year-old Alphonso Davies, being locked down in Australia and away from his family for 18 months during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the similarities between the positions Australian and Canadian players find themselves in. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast presented by Macey's Sports! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to dive into all things Vancouver Whitecaps after a busy two weeks of action. First, they look back at the three games the 'Caps played over that span, a loss to Minnesota United FC, a draw with FC Cincinnati and a draw with the Portland Timbers, seeing what stood out to them in those games. From the 'Caps improved road identity, to their injury crisis, as well as a bit of a resurgence for Cristian Dajome, Ryan Gauld and Brian White, they dive into the storylines that emerged from that stretch. After that, they dive into the biggest news of the last two weeks, that being the acquisition of a new 'Caps player. Not only that, but it's a pretty darn good one, too, that being Julian Gressel, who the 'Caps were able to nab from DC United at a bargain price. Then, they get into an interesting discussion surrounding the team's present and future, and where they lie relative to the teams around them in MLS, seeing why that is important for them to take stock ahead of a crucial offseason. Lastly, they dive into the 'Caps upcoming game, a clash with the Chicago Fire at BC Place, seeing what they expect from that one, as Vancouver balances that game and the looming Canadian Championship final versus Toronto FC. With another CPL weekend in the books, Kristian Jack and Charlie O'Connor-Clarke are here again to break down the goings-on around the league. First off, it's a trip out east to Halifax, where HFX Wanderers FC fell 3-0 to Forge FC in a dominant match for the Hamilton side; Benedict Rhodes joins the show to discuss how it all went down (2:48). Then, we move over to Alberta, where FC Edmonton are rejoicing after their first win of the 2022 season -- a 1-0 triumph over Atlético Ottawa. Alexandre Gangué-Ruzic comes on to add some context and explain why it was such a special moment for Alan Koch and the Eddies (17:35). Lastly, the gang heads back to York Lions Stadium for a chat about York United and Pacific's 0-0 draw over the weekend (32:55). OneSoccer's Adam Jenkins is the show's special guest this week, as he helps break down Pacific and York, before a brief preview of the Nine Stripes' upcoming Canadian Championship semifinal clash on Wednesday against the Vancouver Whitecaps (38:40).
Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast presented by Macey's Sports! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps after a big weekend for the club. First, they look at the big and surprising news from the weekend, as the Whitecaps actually went out and did the unthinkable - win away in commanding fashion in MLS, doing so in a 2-0 road victory over FC Dallas. Having both witnessed that surprise performance from the 'Caps, Alex and Sam dive right into what they thought of that game, including the debut of the Andres Cubas show, some Colombian magic, an improved defensive shape and the continued progress and dominance of Lucas Cavallini. After, they then look ahead for the 'Caps, previewing their next match, a midweek clash against the CPL's York United in the semi-finals of the Canadian Championship, seeing what they expect from that one. Can a struggling York take down a red-hot Whitecaps side? Knowing the magic of the cup, it's something you don't want to rule out quite yet. Lastly, they dive into a bit of CPL chatter, as they look at Sam's recent visit to a Halifax Wanderers game, diving into his experience at Wanderers Ground, and what teams around Canada could stand to learn from that venue and the club as a whole. The Canadian men's national team did not play their rescheduled friendly match in Vancouver on Sunday against Panama after the CanMNT players went on strike in a dispute with Canada Soccer over compensation and the allocation of World Cup qualification prize money. The strong stance against the federation left Brendan Dunlop and James Sharman with plenty to talk about with former Canadian men's national team players Craig Forrest and Jimmy Brennan, as we try to answer the question all Canadian soccer fans are asking, how did it get to this point? Producers Dan Wong and Jeff Cole ensured you got a slice of Panama on the night you were expecting to see Canada play Panama at BC Place. On the pitch, Canadian Premier League side Forge FC put on a spirited performance against Toronto FC Saturday night at Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton, losing to the MLS giants in a penalty kick shootout in the 2020 Canadian Championship Final. Jimmy and the crew highlight what a special night and landmark moment it was for the CPL and Canadian soccer as a whole This podcast has content that may use words and share tales that offend, please feel free to use your best discretion. As usual, the CanPL.ca Newsroom is back this week to recap yet another remarkable weekend for the Canadian Premier League's clubs. Kristian Jack and Charlie O'Connor-Clarke start, of course, in Hamilton for all the reaction, analysis, and interviews you could want from a thrilling 2020 Canadian Championship Final between Forge FC and Toronto FC (1:56). Benedict Rhodes joins the show at the end of the Forge-TFC chat to give his thoughts (18:22), before helping break down a dramatic 1-1 draw at IG Field between Valour FC and FC Edmonton (19:40). From Winnipeg, they head to the nation's capital as Mitchell Tierney comes in to discuss an entertaining triumph with a late winner for Atlético Ottawa over league-leaders Pacific FC (27:09). To cap off the Ottawa discussion, Atleti boss Carlos González drops by the show to give his own thoughts on his side's first third of the season and recent run of form (33:36). For the final CPL match of the weekend, a 1-0 win for HFX Wanderers over York United in Halifax, Alexandre Gangué-Ruzic joins to explain just what's going on for both teams after an interesting tactical battle (46:20). Finally, the show comes full circle as KJ and Charlie end with a brief discussion of the inherent drama of a penalty shootout -- particularly that which decided Saturday's final -- including some thoughts from Toronto FC goalkeeper Quentin Westberg from the immediate aftermath of his side's victory (59:10).
This weekend will be a blast from the past as Toronto FC and 2-time Canadian Premier League champions Forge FC will finally play the rescheduled 2020 Canadian Championship Final, Saturday June 4th, at Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton. James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Jimmy Brennan and Brendan Dunlop spoke with Forge FC left-back Ashtone Morgan about playing his former club, TFC, adjusting to life in the Canadian Premier League, and how weird it is to be playing a Final from two years ago for a team he didn't play for at that time. It led the crew down a road of comparing eras, the evolution of the wing-back position, and producer Dan Wong reveals which era he would have loved to play in. You probably won't be surprised by his answer. Lastly, it's a full-on preview of the upcoming 2020 Canadian Championship final, in which Toronto FC will head to Tim Hortons Field to take on Forge. Finally, a very special guest joins KJ and Charlie from his hotel in Victoria, as York goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos shares the fascinating story of his whirlwind weekend, which saw him travel to Charlotte, North Carolina after being loaned to MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps for their match on Sunday (50:05).
The CanPL.ca Newsroom is back again to review Matchweek 5 in the Canadian Premier League. Kristian Jack and Charlie O'Connor-Clarke host this week's show, joined early by Mitchell Tierney to break down York United's 905 Derby triumph over Forge FC (3:15). Mitchell sticks around to discuss Pacific's narrow 1-0 win over Atlético Ottawa (19:52).
