This episode we bowed down to our Furby God and watched the 2021 Academy Award nominated animated film 'The Mitchells vs The Machine'. As well as unanimously* deciding that we are a Florence Pugh podcast we also touched on Fighting With My Family, Fargo, Midnight in Paris, Dune and asked the age old question... For episode number seventy seven, I'm joined, as always, by Myles Hughes, and Steve Prusakowski, with a special guest in the second half of the show. Yes, The Mitchells vs. the Machines filmmaker Mike Rianda joined to talk to Myles and I (Steve wasn't able to make it, as we recorded this part early). He's delightful, as you've no doubt found out already in my interview with him, but this is another really fun conversation. Before that, however, we talk more about The Batman, including some spoilers, so be warned there... As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our seventy seventh to date. Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!

We're back for a show covering two animated family films you can watch right now on Netflix, 'The Willoughbys' & 'The Mitchells vs. the Machines'. Also, with the 20th Anniversary of one of our absolute favourite films (and if you're anything like us, definitely one of your favourites too!) we couldn't help but talk about it so we chat about 2001's 'A Knight's Tale'. There's a lot of animated films out there to choose from and it's quite hard to separate some of the blander choices from the truly worthwhile stuff but our two choices showcase massive energy, unconventional visuals and true heart that really make them stand out. From the surreal and dark yet expansive and bubbly Willoughbys to the tech-obsessed, star-studded sugar rush of The Mitchells vs. the Machines, we're celebrating some family films that aim higher than they really needed to and really pull it off! Of course, we couldn't pass up on the chance of talking about A Knight's Tale for its 20th anniversary, a film that's really close to our hearts and joyously breaks the mould for sports movies & period pieces with anachronistic glee! We talk about the amazing performances that really bring the film together from Shannyn Sossamon, Heath Ledger and of course the magnifcent Paul Bettany. With Bowie on the soundtrack & Chaucer as an inspiration (and main character!), what could go wrong! As per the usual gremlins in the wires, the last few minutes of the show were missing from the recording but we'd wrapped up the reviews & recommendations so it only means a rather abrupt end rather than a technological catastrophe (no PAL Labs robot takeover here!). Hope you enjoy! 0:00 - Quick Technical Difficulties Disclaimer 0:36 - Intro & The Willoughbys Review 19:55 - The Mitchells vs. the Machines Review 35:05 - A Knight's Tale Review Tracks Played: Talking Heads - (Nothing But) Flowers David Bowie - Golden Years And our call to action! Tweet or insta us with your favourite comfort films you and your friends reference and watch religiously. We're talking Rocky Horror, Lord of the Rings, Shaun of the Dead, Mamma Mia, anything you can recite quotes of in your sleep (You've been weighed, measured and found wanting!) Dawson and Jillian join Philip to discuss the new animated film from Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix, 'The Mitchells vs. the Machines.' Originally announced as a theatrical feature under the title 'Connected,' the film examines the pitfalls of modern technology and its impact on a typical Michigan family who embark on a cross-country road trip. Katie Mitchell is an aspiring filmmaker on her way to college who has trouble connecting to her father, who insisted on the trip. En route to California, a rogue AI takes over the world and captures every human except the four Mitchells. Will this mildly dysfunctional family rise to the occasion and save the world? This week we introduce a brand new feature: "What The Kids Are Watching." We look at a movie or TV show that either our kids are watching or other kids are watching and let you know if it's actually 'kid-friendly.' To break this in, we look at the new Netflix movie 'The Mitchells vs The Machines.' Starting things off: 'Mare of Easttown', episode 4. Just how many subplots can one show have? "Jupiter's Legacy." Is it Netflix' answer to Amazon's 'The Boys?' Or is it just a turd covered in spandex? The aformentioned 'What the Kids Are Watching' with "Mitchells v Machines" Make sure to get your free browser plugin from Honey at www.joinhoney.com/married! Doing so supports the show! The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was one of the most popular TV shows during its six-week run. But much like 'WandaVision' before it, the ending does not land. Is this something we can expect from all future Marvel TV shows? This week we break down the whole show, what worked, what didn't, and what we hope will change when 'Loki' starts. Before that, we share our thoughts on 'Tenet' which is now streaming on HBO MAX, and 'The Mitchells vs. the Machines.'
It is a diverse episode of The Movie Breakdown as we look at movies from very different genres aiming for a variety of audiences. We have two big 2021 releases that both where originally scheduled for theatrical runs in 2020, but a little thing called a pandemic got in the way. We have a big Michael B. Jordan starring action thriller in Without Remorse, which has been in some form of development since 1993, Was it worth the wait? As well, we review a big, animated adventure about an odd-ball family being the only chance against a robot uprising in The Mitchells vs. the Machines. There is high pedigree in this one as the producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller also gave us animated features like The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Spider-man Into the Spider-Verse.We then jump in the Way-Back Machine for two older pictures. We have a comedy that was a cultural phenomenon in 1997 with the spy parody flick, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Then we review something totally different in the 1989 Al Pacino starring sexual neo-noir thriller, Sea of Love. As always, we had a great time recording this show and we really hope you love it.
