Adeline Rudolph just made quite the leap as far as video game adaptations go. While things didn't pan out well for Netflix's Resident Evil series, which was canceled after just one season in 2022, Mortal Kombat II is cruising at the box office. In 2021, director Simon McQuoid kicked off a new iteration of Mortal Kombat feature films with a movie focused on Cole Young (Lewis Tan) that also included a slew of other fan-favorite characters like Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and many more. Rudolph didn't just join that ensemble via 2026's Mortal Kombat II. She headlines the film opposite Karl Urban's Johnny Cage. While Johnny Cage's evolution is the focal point of the Earth Realm storyline, Kitana's experience is the heart and soul of the Outworld material and, ultimately, it's Kitana who brings the two sides together. In celebration of Mortal Kombat II's wide release, Rudolph swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to discuss her journey as an actor thus far, including making her screen debut via The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and lessons learned from Netflix's Resident Evil that she was able to apply to Mortal Kombat II. She also offered up some behind-the-scenes insight into all of Kitana's biggest moments in the movie, which included the film's final shot — all the main characters joining forces to bring back fallen champions. Get over here! The Baconsale temps have been taken to the prison realm, where they will be in charge of sorting 18 characters from the Mortal Kombat video game franchise into minimum-, medium-, and maximum-security jail cells. Excellent! Where Joel, Kent, and Zack will put these champions will depend on their fighting abilities, how scary they seem, and sometimes how attractive they are. And while this episode wouldn't get a parental advisory, we will be discussing some iconic fatalities, which some listener could find disturbing. It may not be a flawless victory for each decision, but we'll be sure to keep the conversation toasty as we discuss classic television shows and the importance of multilingualism. This week, we review Mortal Kombat (1995), Paul W.S. Anderson's action-packed martial arts fantasy based on the iconic Midway video game franchise. Robin Shou, Linden Ashby, and Bridgette Wilson star as Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade — three warriors chosen to fight in an ancient interdimensional tournament to save Earth from the clutches of the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung, played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. With Christopher Lambert presiding over the chaos as the thunder god Raiden, and Outworld already sitting on nine wins out of ten, the stakes couldn't be higher. This film raises intriguing questions about what it truly means to fight for humanity — and whether a dodgy CGI lizard man is really the best line of defence. Is Mortal Kombat a finishing move or a finishing disaster? Mortal Kombat 2 It’s been 5 years since the last Mortal Kombat film was almost apologetically released onto our screens in a mid-covid streaming-first market. It was a moderate success at the time and folks were generally taken with the humour, the action beats and the relatively lore-accurate storyline. They were less interested in the new lead character Cole, who had never appeared in any MK story up to that point and whose main power seemed to be getting the seven shades of shit kicked out of him. Director Simon McQuoid has taken his licks on that one and has made the smart decision to follow up on that first story with a very different focus, and a lot of improvements. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation sits at the very top of the pile of worst sequels, and most crushing disappointments ever. Lets hope that this sequel doesn’t need the same tag line “Destroy your expectations”. It’s a 1 vs 1 match tonight with Dion in the red corner, and Quinny in the other colour non-descript corner (he can’t tell he’s colourblind!) we can only assume Peta and Jill are having their own knock-down drag-out fight in some other arena! Synopsis Johnny Cage joins other fighters in the ultimate, no-holds-barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a powerful tyrant who threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders. https://youtu.be/TaiIWS05TCw A huge shout-out to the Kombatants from all realms who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat II is the martial arts fantasy film based on the video-game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. It is the sequel to Mortal Kombat (2021) and is the fourth instalment in the Mortal Kombat film series. Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), a martial arts actor, is recruited by the thunder god Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) to join his fellow Earthrealm fighters in the interdimensional tournament – Mortal Kombat – against the Outworld warriors and stop the tyrannical emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford). We break down all things martial arts, graphic violence, character resurrections, and of course Johnny F***ing Cage!
Nic is not the only Cage who made garbage action flicks in the 1990s Karl Urban (The Boys) goes from Comic-Con has-been to fighting for Earth in a life-or-death tournament called Mortal Kombat II. Does this aging Gen X-er still have enough fight to defeat classic video game characters like fan-wielding Kitana, toothy Baraka, and big, bad Outworld villain Shao Khan? And can director Simon McQuoid bring new life to martial artists who didn't stick the landing in his COVID-era first attempt at the property? Get over here and listen to Arnie, Justin, and Stuart provide perspective on another Now Playing Podcast Arcade entry.
On this episode of Damn You Hollywood, Robert Winfree, Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich review Mortal Kombat II (2026), the long-awaited sequel to the 2021 reboot based on the legendary video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, the film brings back Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada, while adding Karl Urban as fan-favorite Johnny Cage alongside Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn and Tati Gabrielle as Jade. This time the actual Mortal Kombat tournament takes center stage as Raiden's Earthrealm warriors battle Outworld for the fate of humanity. Does the sequel finally deliver the crowd-pleasing martial arts spectacle fans wanted, or is it just another CGI-heavy nostalgia machine? Your favorite sleep-deprived monsters return this week to dive headfirst into Mortal Kombat (1995), directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and its chaotic little gremlin cousin Mortal Kombat:Annihilation (1997), directed by John R. Leonetti. What begins as nostalgic love for flying bicycle kicks, techno bangers, and flawless '90s vibes quickly mutates into a full-scale emotional fatality. We lovingly scream about how the first Mortal Kombat is still a beautiful, dumb, perfect arcade fever dream where every punch sounds like someone slapping a rotisserie chicken and every slow-motion kick feels like cinema history. Paul W.S. Anderson gave us glowing eyes, practical sets, unforgettable character entrances, and a soundtrack that could legally be classified as a controlled substance. This movie didn't just raise us — it babysat us while our parents were in Blockbuster arguing about late fees. Then… we willingly walk into the Outworld disaster zone that is Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, a sequel that bravely asks the question: “What if we replaced half the cast, forgot how physics works, and spent the entire budget on Party City cosplay and unfinished CGI dragons?” We spiral into madness over:•Johnny Cage getting deleted faster than a bad tweet•Raiden turning into a dust cloud instead of, you know, lightning (sir???)•Random characters popping in like cursed Pokémon cards•Animalities happening whenever they feel emotionally ready•A centaur that may or may not be two American Gladiators sewn together in a garageAt some point the episode completely derails into debates about centaur anatomy, bad sequel trauma, why Scorpion keeps shooting demon snakes instead of a perfectly good spike-on-a-rope, and how this movie taught us — as children — that sometimes art hurts you on purpose.Through laughter, yelling, nostalgic joy, and light emotional damage, we celebrate what makes the Mortal Kombatmovie franchise endlessly rewatchable: insane fight choreography, iconic characters, wildly questionable creative choices, and the kind of beautiful stupidity only '90s genre cinema could deliver.CREEP-O-RAMA is: Store: CREEP-O-RAMAYouTube: @creep-o-ramaJosh: @joshblevesqueArtwork: @bargainbinblasphemyTheme: @imfigureAudio: @stranjlove

Send us a textThis week on Entertain This!, the boys dive headfirst into the cinematic masterpiece that is 1995's Mortal Kombat. Join Tom as he tries to explain the nuanced plot of an ancient, inter-dimensional fighting tournament, only to be constantly interrupted by Mitch and Hayden who are excited to hear about a movie with a guy named Johnny Cage, which they assume is a prequel to Face/Off. (more to come)Can our heroes, Liu Kang, a guy who really needs to find a better way to grieve; Sonya Blade, a cop who apparently believes "jurisdiction" is just a suggestion; and Johnny Cage, an actor so bad his only convincing role is “himself,” look deep inside themselves to defeat the Emperor of Outworld's forces? More importantly, can our hosts look deep inside themselves to find the answers to Mitch's incredibly difficult trivia questions, like “Is that guy with the metal hat a good guy or a bad guy?” and “Can you explain the plot without yelling ‘FLAWLESS VICTORY!'”So grab your favorite, probably-questionable-at-this-point, themed beverage and get ready for a deep-dive into a movie that reminds us all that the true "mortal kombat" is trying to determine if the characters actually know what Flawless means. Harry and Rory journey back in time to the late 20th century and test the might of TV series Mortal Kombat: Conquest! This cheap and cheerful kung-fu fantasy show only lasted one season but served as a prequel of sorts to the feature films, following legendary Kombatant Kung Lao (Paolo Montalban) and his plucky companions Siro (Daniel Bernhardt) and Taja (Kristanna Loken) some time in the distant past. The heroic trio must battle sorcerers, warriors, and ninja clans, but can they defend Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld? “You don't know why anyone is on this boat!” - Steve, on the bad script On this week's show, the guys welcome back their good bud, and official WHM Disaster Movie Expert™️, Justin J. Case to chat about the grimmer-than-average disaster flick, Poseidon! How brutal are all these kills? Is there any other movie that's this aggressively 2006? Couldn't they have tried to make any of these characters three-dimensional? And credit where credit's due, the sequence of the boat tipping over is exquisite! PLUS: Turns out installing elevators in Mortal Kombat's Outworld is pretty involved! Poseidon stars Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Jacinda Barrett, Richard Dreyfuss, Emmy Rossum, Mía Maestro, Mike Vogel, Kevin Dillon, Freddy Rodríguez, Jimmy Bennett, Andre Brauer, and Fergie as Gloria; directed by Wolfgang Peterson. The year was 1995 – the world of videogame nerds was overtaken by the cinema masterpiece that was Mortal Kombat. ..ok, fine, it wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was kinda badass. So now, what happens when the Somethings go back in time, choose their Kombatent and rise through the ranks to fight against the villanous Shao Khan.. who is apparently not the Emporer of the Outworld trying to take over the Overworld… he is, apparently, a whiny Italian man whose father really pulls the strings.
