Back on this day in 1997 Austin Powers International: Man of Mystery was released. It was the first of the Austin Powers franchise, grossed $67 million worldwide.
YEAH BABY! We're headed to the swinging 60's where secret agent, Austin Powers (Mike Myers) and partner, Mrs Kensington (Mimi Rogers) are hot on the trail of Dr. Evil (also Mike Myers) in his plan to take over the world. When Dr Evil fails in his attempt, he freezes himself, inserts himself into a Big Boy and launches into space with his cat Mr. Bigglesworth. In order to fight Dr. Evil on his return, Austin has also frozen himself and 30 years later when the Big Boy lands, Austin also comes back. Disoriented, Austin has to learn to acclimate himself to the 90s and after meeting with Basil Exposition (Michael York) he's set up with MISS Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley). Dr. Evil has also reunited with his lackeys, Patty O'Brien (Paul Dillon), Mustafa (Will Ferrell), #2 (Robert Wagner) and Frau Farbissina (Mindy Sterling) who introduces him to his son, Scott (Seth Green). It's our happening and it's FREAKING us out! Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, this week on Doom Generation. Support this podcast at patreon.com/doomgeneration

“Do you agree with me, baby?” On this episode we do! Tanner and Matt have a blast talking about Austin Danger Powers while Sam sits on the bench with his frozen mojo.
My 13 year old son has been wanting to do a podcast and recently he's gotten into watching older movies, so it's naturally a fit to talk about what he's watched. In this first episode, we discuss Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, The Blues Brothers, The Jerk, and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Hopefully he'll get more comfortable as we record and we'll make these a little longer than 15 minutes. The featured song is Trouble Water by The Speakeasy. In today's episode we go back to the future with 1997's Austin Powers. We discuss Michael Myers place in comedy as well as the state of 90s humor, and many of the James Bond spoofs. All this and more on WTN!
Shagadelic man of mystery, Austin Powers was cryogenically frozen during the swinging 60's only to be reanimated in the angsty 90's. Amongst dealing with the end of the free love movement, he also must try to defeat the also previously frozen Dr. Evil who wants to take over the world for 1 mill...I mean 100 Billion dollars! “If you've got a better way to do it, I'd like to hear it” The panel of peril are dancing down the street stark naked, with only conveniently placed every-day items covering their ghoulies and that. They got the idea, and carefully choreographed it, from this week's film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (Jay Roach, 1997). This week, they are joined by Craig from Whit's The Script podcast! Arch enemies Austin Powers (Mike Myers) and Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) are inexorably linked, as so many arch enemies are. So when Dr. Evil has himself frozen in swinging 1967, Austin is obliged to follow suit, both thawing out 30 years hence in the responsible 90s. Both have adjustments to make, Austin with the help of Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley) and Basil Exposition (Michale York), and the good (evil) Doctor with Number Two (Robert Wagner) and Frau Farbissina (Mindy Sterling). Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vsANcS4Ml8 ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** Conspiring to steal an arsenal of nuclear weapons and hold the world to ransom – for one million dollars – Austin and Vanessa are in a race against time to stop the world going kablooey! But will the horny, randy, sexy superspy be able to resist the charms of a beautiful, and deadly, army of Fembots? Not likely if I know Powers, hahahahahahaha… He might though. Just what did the panel think of this week's movie, pray tell? How can they improve upon Dr. Evil's high-stakes plan? And who will be christened this week's most diabolical? https://twitter.com/diabolicalpod https://www.instagram.com/diabolicalpod/ https://www.facebook.com/diabolicalpod Email diabolicalpod@gmail.com
Do I make you horny? We'll break down the outrageous adventures of the world's most shagadelic spy, Austin Powers, as he thwarts the diabolical Dr. Evil, all while rocking the best 60s fashion and the worst British accent you've ever heard. Expect plenty of laughs as we explore the film's over-the-top humor, from its endless innuendos to its hilariously awkward dance sequences. Prepare for a wild ride through the swinging 60s and the cheesy 90s, complete with discussions on the film's ridiculous gadgets, absurd plot twists, and those unforgettable one-liners that are still quotable today. We'll also chat about the film's legacy, including how it spawned two sequels and a cultural phenomenon of bad teeth and worse dance moves. Wes and Nick tackle this amazing spy comedy that makes fun of James Bond and takes inspiration from Dr. Gold Foot. Austin Powers is pure awesome fun!!!Plot:Austin Powers is a 60's spy who is cryogenically frozen and released in the 1990's. The world is a very different place for Powers. Unfortunately for Austin, everyone is no longer sex-mad. Although he may be in a different decade, his mission is still the same. He has teamed up with Vanessa Kensington to stop the evil Dr. Evil, who was also frozen in the past. Dr. Evil stole a nuclear weapon and is demanding a payment of (when he realizes its the 90's) 100 billion dollars. Can Austin Powers stop this madman or will he catch up with Evil's baddies, with names like Alotta Fagina and Random Task? Only time will tell.Support the show:
On January 25, actor, writer and comedian Tom Arnold kicks of the 17th installment of the Addiction and Recovery Lecture Series at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, South Carolina - just up the road from Myrtle Beach. The series will run on consecutive Thursdays through February 15, If you are a certain age like we are, you'll remember Tom from his work on the long-running ABC sitcom Roseanne – or that he was once married to the show's star, Roseanne Barr. And who can forget him opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies – or the hilarious restroom scene in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. But he cut his teeth on standup, which he still performs, and has appeared in scores of films and television shows over more than three decades. He's also a single parent of a son and daughter. Tom is also in recovery – and has been very open about his experience with addiction, relapse, child sexual abuse and a series of health scares over the years. But he's arguably in the best shape of his life now. In 2008, HGTC physics professor Casey King founded and launched Addiction and Recovery Lecture Series – a popular event that has included a growing “Who's Who” of featured celebrity speakers – from actors to rock stars to medical professionals and many more. The series also features presentations and panels including college students, recovery advocates and spokespersons from local recovery groups, rounding out an event that shines as a beacon of hope for those still struggling with addiction and a lamp on the path of those on their recovery journeys. A big thank you to Casey for putting us in touch with Tom. Groovy baby, yeah! Yes, even I can't believe there are movies that we haven't talked about yet and we're over 150 episodes in. This is another example of just that. Austin Powers is a comfort film for me that I didn't' realize until I started this review. The soundtrack has been burned into my brain for years as I used to play it to fall asleep throughout my mid teens. Me and Mikey reviewed this one and it was laughs all the way through! We get into the hilarious moments, LOTS of behind the scenes, the FASHION, and rave about the fact that this soundtrack is a whole swingin' VIBE.Off-topic rants include: Marvel movies, how I haven't seen a James Bond film, my new adventure starting The Crown--- Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon!
