POPULARITY
We had the opportunity to talk to Adam Kwapiński, known for titles such as Nemesis, Lords of Hellas and Frostpunk. We did the interview in an Instagram Live session and this is the recording of it. As you can see the interview is done in English. We give a short introduction in German though. We talked with Adam about his upcoming book, game design in general, play testing, dealing with publishers and the relevance of crowd funding. We had a great time and you can get some great insights from a quite productive designer. Enjoy the show!

Waking up from years of hibernation, all of us were a bit dazed and confused. Temporary amnesia was very common and while we all knew our names, we only had some basic memories of what had happened before or what we were meant to do. We weren't even sure which ship we were on, let alone its layout. When we saw that one of our colleagues was dead and had a gaping hole in their chest, we knew something was seriously wrong. Nobody was sure what caused our colleague's death. We knew we had to work together to get out of this nightmare, but the trust in each other had evaporated. So we set about exploring the ship and finding our Nemesis by Adam Kwapiński from Awaken Realms. Moim gościem jest Adam Kwapiński, autor takich klasyków jak Literaci Lubelszczyzny, Arka Zwierzaków i Nemesis. Porozmawiamy o blaskach i cieniach oraz organizacji pracy projektanta-freelancera, rozkładaniem czasu pomiędzy projekty, współpracy z wydawcami i testowaniu.
A rulebook generates expectations, and whether and how those expectations are met or frustrated is an interesting phenomenon. Sometimes you get exactly what you want and that's a good thing--and sometimes the rules promise a set of experiences that never manifest. Over time, you start to get a better feel for what a game might be like by virtue of its rulebook, but even experienced gamers can be thrown for a loop by an unexpected mismatch. To summarize, what I'm saying here is that Nemesis is bad.Games Played Last Week:-Cosmic Frog 1m15s (Jim Felli, Devious Weasel Games, 2020)-Traintopia 8m41s (Przemek Wojtkowiak, Board&Dice, 2020)-Carolus Magnus 14m54s (Leo Colovini, Rio Grande Games, 2000)-Wingspan 17m24s (Elizabeth Hargrave, Stonemaier Games, 2019)-Successors 3rd ed 18m23s (Richard H. To celebrate the launch of the Kickstarter for Dark Ages, the new game from Adam Kwapiński, designer of Lords of Hellas and Nemesis, we are launching a very special competition in association with our god friends at Board & Dice. Dark Ages is a historically-based civilization-building game that features an innovative action selection mechanism. As long as your action markers remain on the board, you may be able to gain secondary bonus actions whenever you or another player repeats the action. While Dark Ages features objectives commonly found in 4X games — encouraging you to explore nearby regions, expand your territory, exploit the resources, and exterminate your opponents — it does so featuring several Euro-centric mechanisms. Collect resources from lands under your control, using them to build up your cities and fortifications. Some building types provide several ways for you to gain important in-game advantages, while others enhance your military strength or simply score you victory points. As you expand your territory, you will lay claim to noble titles, acquire new technologies, and train your military units. Each region and leader offer asymmetrical choices with their unique abilities. Dark Ages launches on 16th March and you could win yourself a copy. The winner will receive a copy of Dark Ages including all stretch goals, with free worldwide shipping to anywhere except Brazil, Libya, Syria, the Philippines, Reunion and Venezuela. The winner will also be provided with a letter bestowing upon them the title of Champion of the Unified Kingdom. To win this prize we want you to design a heraldry or coat of arms for Polyhedron Collider. Send that design to us in any format you want, but please send all entry to steve@polyhedroncollider.com You have until 20 March 2020 to submit your design.
Buon ascolto! Regia del signor Darcy.

This week I talk to Adam Kwapiński a board game designer from Poland. Adam has created a number of games you will know but most notably Nemesis, a sci fi semi cooperative game with minis & Lords of Hellas, two fantastic games. I loved talking to Adam and there were some epic sound bites in our chat. An alien could never be as bad as any human you can meet is one for sure when he was talking about the semi cooperative nature of nemesis. He was a great guy to speak to and I am sure I speak for all of us when I say thanks for the amazing games so far and that we cant wait to hear more from him. I hope you enjoy the show.
