A rulebook generates expectations, and whether and how those expectations are met or frustrated is an interesting phenomenon. Sometimes you get exactly what you want and that's a good thing--and sometimes the rules promise a set of experiences that never manifest. Over time, you start to get a better feel for what a game might be like by virtue of its rulebook, but even experienced gamers can be thrown for a loop by an unexpected mismatch. A rulebook generates expectations, and whether and how those expectations are met or frustrated is an interesting phenomenon. As much as we love bringing you content about all sorts of Kickstarter projects, it gives us a special warm feeling in our hearts when we can promote a project from a first time designer. We welcome Joseph Chen to the show to talk about Fantastic Factories. The project funded in the first few hours of launch, which is an amazing accomplishment considering that this is Joseph and his partner are doing it themselves without any official publisher backing. Joseph will tell you about the game - think Alien Frontiers: The Card Game - and also about how he was able to reach out to folks and build a community that has been playing and loving his game.
In our ninety-ninth episode, we talk about how we're using board games in the classroom, what we’ve been playing lately and announce the many prize packs and the fourth entry in our Road to Episode 100 Contest. We review the monk brewing tile placement game Heaven and Ale. And James D'Amato from One Shot Podcast and Campaign Podcast joins us to talk about Indy RPGs. This episode is sponsored by Fantastic Factories & Board Game Bliss
Richard is joined by Joseph Z Chen from Metafactory Games and creator of the suddenly successful Fantastic Factories, so we spend 50 minutes chatting about how he got into the hobby, then realise we actually should talk about the game and then kind of talk about it I guess but it ends up all ok in end. I think. Joesph was really interesting to chat with and I hope you enjoy the episode.
