I once saw a video of a woman driving a Shelby GT350 Mustang on the Autobahn. It hit 275 kph without breaking a figurative sweat, roaring its primal power the entire way. I was petrified even watching the video. This is to say nothing of the terror I felt seeing it take offramps at roughly 100 kph, which is not terribly advisable with a vehicle that is not known for its cornering. Of course, there are many sections of the Autobahn with speed limits--and even more with no Mustangs on it at all. Tragedies heaped upon tragedies.Games Played Last Week:00:54 -boop. It's our GenCon wrap-up episode as we're combining all of the RPG and board games we played on days 3 and 4 together in one episode! Games discussed in this episode include: Cosmic Frog by Deviant Weasel Games, Demon Hunters: A Comedy of Terrors, Factory 42 by Dragon Dawn Productions, Kemet: Blood and Sand by Matagot, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures: Change is Constant by IDW Games, Endeavor: Age of Sail by Burnt Island Games, and Furnace by Hobby World and Arcane Wonders!
In this business, companies enter the market and companies leave it with a depressing regularity. But what motivates them to start and what leads to their departures? With the news that Impudent Mortal is back, IDW Games is gone and Freebooter's Fate is, astonishingly, still here, I dig into this question in a little more detail and ask what it means for Precinct Omega.
Episode 38: The Evolution of a Gamer. When we started this podcast Aaron was like a new born babe in our hobby, and now he's been thrown in the deep end for a year and a half. In the Main Event we explore how Aaron's new found familiarity with publishers and designers has changed his shopping habits.Plus we in Quick Thoughts we look at Riftforce, Mariposas, and LLamaland. In the News we discuss the closing of IDW Games, and the newest set of purchases between Fantasy Flight and Gamezenter.New to the Colletion includes an expansion for Grand Austria Hotel, The Power Rangers Deck Building Game, and Reykolt. Finally we end with not 1 but 2, top 3's: TOP 3 Things that make us buy a game, and TOP 3 things that make us NOPE right out of a game. Also don't forget to fill out both surveys and you could win $50! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZXNSDYLhttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZXXNPVV

This week, the PlayEd Podcast triumphantly returns! We discuss “Fire and Axe: A Viking Saga” by IDW Games, a raiding and trading game where players traverse Europe as Northmen, winning victory points through sacking cities or sitting on sacks (of trade goods). Finding the right balance is part of the fun, but all is subject to chance and the way the wind is blowing. Games Mentioned: Fire and Axe: A Viking Saga - By IDW games. A fun 30 to 90 minute game for players 12+ Beowulf - Someday we'll actually play this. Currently out of print but can be found on the secondary market at reasonable prices. Books Mentioned: Beowulf - This link goes to the Seamus Heaney translation of the epic poem. It's one of our favorites. Can't see the links? Podcatcher turning my painstaking labor into plaintext? This is not, strictly speaking, the first foray into gaming that Hellboy has done--not even the first in the miniatures genre. There were some Hellboy Heroclix, but let us speak as adults--that's not really saying much. Everyone has been in Heroclix now. 43% of the human population has been represented as a Heroclix figure at some point. Walker has, like, four different versions (albeit two of those are repaints). I hear the "Raging Fury" Walker figure is banned in most tournament play.Games Played Last Week: -Just One 1m59s (Ludovic Roudy & Bruno Sautter, Repos Productions)-Lords of Hellas 4m57s (Awam Kwapinski, Awaken Realms, 2018)-Tammany Hall 7m39s (Doug Eckhart, IDW Games, 2007)Editorial note: Mark erred in his playing of Tammany Hall (unused favour chips are not worth points). Names are powerful. The Spiel des Jahres means "game of the year" simpliciter, but for years we know that the juries have been casting a narrower and narrower net of what games thay would consider. It has become more of a specialized imprint, which is fine--but it's strange that the name still inspires such cachet. Anything with rules in excess of 3 or so pages seems now to be firmly beyond the pale as far as the SdJ is concerned. Ah, well, times change, and we are prone to fits of curmudgeonly behavior. Credibility, like a butterfly, is a fragile and beautiful thing. Mark is fundamentally opposed to subtlety and ephemeral joy, so he naturally seeks to destroy either whenever he encounters it. When it comes to credibility he does this by routinely making gross over-generalizations. This time he has managed to make an instant replay-esque correction, at least. This week on the show, the latest news on Ghostbusters 2020, a new game from IDW, and just why does Ghostbusters seem to cause so much anxiety? First up, a quick correction on last week’s Tobin’s Audio Guide. Then, a release date, production designer, and some early audition reels have all surfaced for Jason Reitman’s upcoming Ghostbusters sequel. Playmobil has revealed details of their next wave of toys including a superb-looking Ecto-1A. And Funko information for the future has also leaked. IDW Games has announced a new co-op game coming in June called “Ghostbusters Blackout.” And finally in the last segment of the show, some discussion about a recent AV Club article asking the question why does Ghostbusters cause so much anxiety? Is it just Ghostbusters, or is the issue something larger? The boys will give it their best.

Other news items in discussion: that Ghostbusters II remote controlled trap up for auction, Bryan Lynch’s Ghostbusters III concept, Ghostbusters Dimension’s status at VOID arcade attractions, and Chris hits us all with a half-hour rapid-fire of anything and everything we’ve missed over the past couple weeks!

We had so much fun playing Machi Koro from IDW Games, that we're playing it again! Who is the best businessman? Show your thanks to Major Spoilers for this episode by becoming a Major Spoilers Patron at http://Patreon.com/MajorSpoilers. It will help ensure Munchkin Land continues far into the future! Contact us at podcast@majorspoilers.com MACHI KORO Welcome to the city of Machi Koro, the Japanese card game that is sweeping the world. You've just been elected Mayor. Congrats! Unfortunately the citizens have some pretty big demands: jobs, a theme park, a couple of cheese factories and maybe even a radio tower. A tough proposition since the city currently consists of a wheat field, a bakery and a single die. Armed only with your trusty die and a dream, you must grow Machi Koro into the largest city in the region. You will need to collect income from developments, build public works and steal from your neighbor's coffers. Just make sure they aren't doing the same to you! Machi Koro is a fast-paced light-hearted game for you and up to 3 friends. Once you've had a taste of Machi Koro, this infectiously fun game may have you wondering if the dinner table ever served another purpose. They say you can't build Rome in a day, but Machi Koro will be built in less than 30 minutes!
