On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we react to the news that Freddy Gaudreau is now hurt and won't travel with the team on the road over the weekend. We try to pinpoint when exactly Gaudreau got hurt, and how it explains his quiet start to the season. We discuss why Jujhar Khaira should ideally move to the 4th line the lineup, with a similar skillset to Marcus Foligno and wanting to try to give Marco Rossi someone with offensive upside on the 3rd line. We also discuss the decision to put Jared Spurgeon on LTIR, what that means and why the Wild aren't utilizing his cap hit for additional roster moves. We finish by discussing Pat Maroon's solid start to the season, and how he compares to some of his predecessors as Wild enforcers go. Looking at Columbus' season as a whole, it's tough to find the good among all the injuries and underperformances. Luckily, a solid season from Gaudreau in his first year with the team, plus good showings from the approximately 25 rookies that iced for the CBJ this season, means there' a lot to like about the future of this team! It's Episode 298 of 2 Guys and a Goalie presented by Coolbet Canada with Dustin Nielson, Matt Kassian and Joaquin Gage! The 2 Guys crew start with the Oilers becoming a very sound defensive team and is this something that can be sustained moving forward? Gager talks about how this is what everyone has always wanted and now people complain it's boring. Our goalie talks about what he's seeing from Jack Campbell now compared to the start of the season. Dusty and the boys talk about Nuge's offensive success this year and then take a look back at the 2011 Draft and debate where he would go in a redraft. Nuge vs the likes of Landeskog, Huberdeau, Gaudreau, Scheifele and KUCHEROV! Who should Oilers fans be cheering for the Kings or Knights? Will Connor Bedard score 30 goals as a rookie in the NHL next season?
Nearly every professional team has an identity. The Calgary Flames were underdogs last year and we watched that fizzle as Gaudreau and Tkachuk left. There was no new version of the Flames. They didn't bother to reinvent themselves. Jess Belmosto and Nick Zararis break down who this team could've become and the narrative they could've played into. On top of identity, what happened to the defense? Is it as bad as the eye test makes it seem? What are some controllable factors the Calgary Flames can focus on through this final stretch? Despite the Sharks outshooting the Wild 18-5 the Sharks failed to equalize the 1-0 lead Minnesota grabbed on Spurgeon's goal. The Sharks would solve Fleury in the second on the Power Play by Captain Couture's goal, EK65 and Hertl would pickup assists. With the assist Erik Karlsson would take over the Sharks' single scoring by a defensemen. The Wild would take the lead once again with a Power Play goal by Gaudreau with 2 minutes left in the second. Johansson would get the insurance goal in the 3rd period, a late Sharks Power Play would get the Sharks within 1 goal thanks to Hertl. Matts Zuccarello, would re-establish the 2 goal lead with a goal 11 minutes into the third plus a empty net. Landi breakdown another Sharks loss. In Johnny Gaudreau's first game against the Philadelphia Flyers since Chuck Fletcher committed organizational malpractice and refused to attempt to bring the star forward home, Johnny Hockey showed Philadelphia exactly what they're missing, scoring the game's opening goal and assisiting on two others in a game the Orange and Black lost 5-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flyers weren't necessarily "bad," minus not having much jump early, they just appeared disjointed, and somewhat lacking in chemistry, and were unable to capitalize on several opportunities to extend the BJ's losing streak, which was halted at five games thanks in large part to Gaudreau. The loss was Carter Hart's first in regulation, and while he may not have been spectacular, all three goals he allowed (CBJ added a pair on empty-netters to pad what became a close game in the third period), were the results of turnovers leading to odd-man situations for Columbus. So, not the best showing for Philly in their first of what will be many encounters with Gaudreau over the next seven years, but they'll get right back at it on Saturday when they host Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators, in what will be the former captain's first game in Philadelphia since his 1,000th as a Flyer last season. That's all. Listen to the postgame podcast, please and thank you! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
