Justin Cuthbert kicks off the show with Frank Seravalli (2:25) ahead of tomorrow's 2025 NHL Draft. They discuss the JJ Peterka blockbuster that sent the young forward to the Mammoth, what the Sabres are getting in Kesselring and Josh Doan, the trade chatter surrounding Jordan Kyrou and Bowen Byram, and much more. Then, they discuss the next CBA, why the league wants an 84-game season, the LTIR playoff changes and EBUG changes. Then, Sportsnet's Blake Murphy joins the show (25:40) to discuss how the Raptors' 9th overall pick Collin Murray-Boyles. They discuss the rationale behind spending a high pick on a player who struggles with shooting, his elite defensive potential, how the Raptors will approach the second round and much more. They end things off discussing the latest stretch of play from the Blue Jays. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Frank and Jason are back with another offseason edition of The DFO Rundown, and today's was a busy one. Earlier this morning, Frank broke the story that a new CBA is coming and he outlined all of the changes that are coming with that. The guys dug into all of that and Gregor said what he liked and didn't like about some of the new elements of the CBA, which will kick in for the 2026-27 season. Before they talked about that, they did discuss the massive deal that went down on Thursday night as the Buffalo Sabres sent JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for Josh Doan and Michael Kesselring. The deal seems a bit underwhelming on the surface and the guys talked about that. Frank also shared what some other options may have been for GM Kevyn Adams. They then really sunk their teeth into the new CBA and new massive changes that are coming, including new term limits, a closing of the LTIR loophole, and an 84-game regular season.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys about the upcoming free agent class and the chances of a top ten pick getting moved in the 2025 NHL Draft. In the back half of the show, they did their offseason previews for the eight playoff teams in the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens are apparently itching to make some big moves, but they're not alone. The Devils and Hurricanes are likely in that boat as well. The Leafs could also be a team that looks very different next season. The challenge for some of the other competitors like the Panthers, will be trying to dance around some cap challenges. They wrapped up the show with an announcement about the future of the podcast as Frank officially moves on from Daily Faceoff after this week.0:45 - Utah lands Peterka6:00 - What else was on the table for Buffalo?9:55 - The new CBA22:54 - Buy or Sell (Top 10 Free Agents, Penguins, Moving a Top 10 Pick)32:40 - Montreal Canadiens38:00 - New Jersey Devils42:10 - Ottawa Senators46:35 - Tampa Bay Lightning51:50 - Washington Capitals53:40 - Carolina Hurricanes55:25 - Toronto Maple Leafs57:50 - Florida PanthersWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? And with that, the 2024-25 NHL season has come to a close and for a second straight season, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup Champions. Jason and Frank kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the Panthers once again winning hockey's ultimate prize. For GM Bill Zito, the celebration is short-lived as he now has to focus on trying to keep this group together despite a tight salary cap situation. Frank talked about just how many of the big free agents he thinks the Panthers could hang onto. They then talked about the Edmonton Oilers, who got to within two games of winning it all. Now, they face a lot of big offseason questions. The first is around Evander Kane and the NHL's investigation into their use of LTIR. Frank gave some insight into that. They also talked about the Trent Frederic extension. They then got into their Eastern Conference offseason preview, beginning with the Philadelphia Flyers. The list of needs for GM Danny Briere is long and they have plenty of assets and cap space to use if they want to. The Boston Bruins are going to be looking to bounce back and add some scoring punch to their roster but they are not the only team in that boat. The Rangers, Red Wings, and Sabres are all looking to take steps forward.Tyler then popped on for Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys about what playoff team is going to be the busiest this summer and how many players from this last Cup Final could he Hall of Famers one day.0:15 - Panthers repeat as Cup Champs4:00 - Evander Kane Investigation11:30 - Trent Frederic Extension17:30 - Philadelphia Flyers23:00 - Boston Bruins28:45 - Buffalo Sabres35:50 - Pittsburgh Penguins39:25 - New York Islanders42:55 - New York Rangers46:25 - Detroit Red Wings50:05 - Columbus Blue Jackets56:20 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The NHL's deputy commissioner & chief legal officer joined Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill. They discussed the 4 Nations, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the LTIR loophole, & Rogers' gigantic new 12-year pact with the league. Additionally, they got his thoughts on the potential of a Battle of Ontario in Round 1, the current playoff format, and The Gr8 Chase.
Our GM apparently went into the trade deadline with a clear knowledge of what this team needed. It was reported that the Devils were interested in many guys. The weakness of this team was evident since Christmas. The Devs had over 13 million dollars of LTIR money. And the team was sitting in a playoff spot. So, this deadline was going to be a swingin' for the fences kind of deadline... right? Wrong. Fitz did nothing and Devils fans are not happy about it. ENJOY

Frank Seravalli is live in Montreal for the 4Nations Faceoff as the hockey world will see close to true best-on-best hockey for the first time in close to a decade. Most of the best players in the world are here and with the tournament kicking off on Wednesday, Jason and Frank went through some of the big storylines for each of the four countries taking part.Finland has lost a handful of key blueliners in the weeks leading up to the event and now they have a defense corp that is barely NHL level, nevermind up to par with the other groups in the tournament. Can they overcome that?Sweden is third on the odds board by a pretty significant margin, but do they deserve more respect? A lot of attention is given to the Swedes strong blueline which features a handful of future Hall of Famers but as Frank says, don't sleep on their forward group, which has some elite scorers playing in the bottom six.USA got dealt a big injury blow with the absence of Quinn Hughes but their blueline is still deep and their forward group has some elite talent at the top. They also have the best goaltender in the tournament in Connor Hellebuyck. Will that be the difference maker? Finally, they talked about the duo of Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon as they will look to compete on the same team for the first time since they came to the NHL. Sidney Crosby is there too after a brief injury scare. Canada's depth is unmatched but the big question mark comes between the pipes. After they finished going through all four teams, Tyler popped in for a 4Nations themed edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about who could lead the tournament in scoring and more.To wrap, they quickly hit on a few NHL stories like what the Dallas Stars could do with the LTIR space they're getting with Miro Heiskanen.4:00 - Finlands injuries8:30 - Sweden's chances10:30 - USA without Quinn Hughes19:00 - Canada's big guns27:20 - Fill in the Blank33:50 - Stars, their LTIR space & Seth JonesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Toff is back and is his Toff Take is hotter than ever. You might never eat lunch the same way again.
