When 23-year-old Alonzo Brooks went missing after attending a party in rural Kansas, his family set out to find their loving, laid back son. After weeks' long searches, authorities came to the conclusion that he must have decided to make the long walk home while intoxicated and shoeless. Sadly, nearly a month after he went missing, Alonzo's body was found in a creek near the last place he was seen. Theories ranged from Alonzo being the victim of a hate crime, to having flirted with the wrong woman and being met in the dark by her jealous boyfriend. Nearly 20 years later, the case has been reopened largely because of rejuvenated interest after being featured on the recent 'Unsolved Mysteries' Reboot. Authorities believe that more is known about Alonzo's death than has ever been revealed. Listen to this week's episode and spread the word so that hopefully, in the very near future, justice can be served. Sources: ALONZO BROOKS. (2023, July 13). He was killed in 2004 after partying with his White friends. In the same state, disgraced and accused former Kansas City Kansas Policeman Roger Golubski entered the hospital this week. He was released from some components of this supervised release while awaiting trial for sexually terrorizing citizens during his time as an officer. We also discuss the global increase in consumption of sugary beverages - which is directly linked with non-white people copying the White diet and "lifestyle." And we heard Dr. Leana Wen's thoughts on the blitz to legalize drugs for recreational purposes. April 3, 2004. La Cygne, Kansas. 23-year old Alonzo Brooks vanishes while attending a party at a farmhouse and his body is discovered on the banks of a nearby creek nearly one month later. While a forensic pathologist is unable to determine Alonzo's exact cause of death, rumours start circulating that he was the victim of a hate crime before his body was placed at that location. In 2021, after Alonzo's body is exhumed and given a new autopsy, it is announced that his death has officially been reclassified as a homicide. Who was responsible for killing Alonzo Brooks and what was the motive for his murder? If his death wasn't a hate crime, what did actually happen to him? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a controversial case which was featured on the Netflix reboot of “Unsolved Mysteries”. On April 3, 2004, 23 year old Alonzo Brooks left his home in Gardner Kansas with three friends to attend a party. He said goodbye to his mother, Maria, and hopped into a friends car. This was the last time Alonzo's mother would ever see him alive. The next day when Alonzo hadn't returned home, Maria knew something was wrong, she contacted his friends and tried to retrace his steps to see where he could be. Instead of finding her son however, Maria discovered a tangled web of disjointed. It seems that Alonzo was left alone at a party an hour away with no car and no way to get home. After a month long police investigation turns up nothing, Alonzo's family organized their own search. Scarcely an hour into their search, in an area that had been cleared many times, Alonzo's family discovered his body. How does a person disappear without a trace, only to reappear a month later as if by magic, dead? We don't know, but one thing is for sure, there is more to this case than meets the eye. In this fifth and final podcast, I make a trip to LaCygne. I interview 3 people including the person who lives in what everyone in town calls the Murder House. I then interview a lady that had lived in the area for 30 plus years and who still lives only a block or so from the house where Alonzo Broosk was killed. And finally, I run into a past resident of LaCygne who basically spills the beans on who everyone in town knows killed Alonzo Brooks and how they did it. I had intentionally left the names of these individuals out of the previous podcasts because I couldn't get any firm confirmation of their involvement but I was handed that info on a silver platter by this former resident. And finally, we discuss how I think this case is very actively being pursued by the FBI and how I think it's ready to break wide open and how you can get involved and help.
In this 4th episode, Alonzo Brooks body is taken to the Coroners office but, and which will come as a shock to absolutely no one who has listened to this case, the coroner does what might be the worst autopsy in history. And I think he does it intentionally after getting pressure by whomever is in the seat of authority to gain the last piece of the puzzle in getting this case closed. Despite Alonzo's body being seen by nearly 20 people who claim the body is in near pristine condition, the coroner claims that the body is so badly decomposed that he cannot determine the cause of death. And this by a doctor who has been summarily run out of New York on rails due to his VERY sketch past, and ends up in the tiny town of LaCygne where it turns out, he will fit right in. And during his autopsy, not a shred of evidence that could be used in the prosecution of whomever killed Alonzo is taken. No scrapping's from under his fingernails, no hair samples were taken, his clothes weren't inspected and were then thrown away. Absolutely everything was done to help continue the cover up of who killed Alonzo and nothing was done according to the rule of law.
In this 3rd podcast of Alonzo Brooks, his body is found. But not during the 2 week search conducted by the Kansas KBI or FBI, with helicopters, cadaver dogs, an Underwater Search and rescue Team and a total of about 60 of Kansas's finest and brightest. But rather by two elderly women who find the body in less than 30 minutes after arriving on the property after everyone else had given up. Just one more really suspicious turn in this case but it of course wouldn't be the last.
In this second podcast, the family and friends of Alonzo Brooks begin their search. And meet up with strong resistance from not only one of Alonzo's friends, who it just happens was supposed to be the one to give Alonzo a ride home. But also from other sources such as the homeowner where the party occurred and his ever-changing stories. But also from the first person in a seat of authority to be notified about the missing boy. And the blunders and mis-steps begin in earnest in what will turn out to be just the tip of the iceberg in a slew of simply confounding mistakes. Or are they mistakes as all??? Or is it just the initial stages of the coverup that has gone on for nearly 20 years and continues to this day. You get to start making your now decisions about who knows what and how this cover up is still taking place in this second podcast.
In this first true crime podcast series called Murder and Money as part of our Fear and Loathing Series, we start with the still unexplained and unsolved murder of a young man in a tiny town in SE Kansas and the cover up that ensued. A cover up that has endured for nearly 20 years despite a huge cash reward and the best efforts of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation as well as the Kansas Branch of the FBI and dozens of local police and task forces being involved. In this first of a series of short podcasts, we discuss how Alonzo Brooks was "accidentally" left at a party about 40 miles from his hometown of Gardner Kansas and subsequently disappeared without a trace.

As mentioned before, the death of Alonzo Brooks was basically reopened because of the attention that the show brought. Another story that has gotten renewed attention centers around the disappearance of Christopher Dansby and Shane Walker. Both kids were abducted from a Manhattan playground in 1989. Both kids have not been seen since.“It's like a nightmare, and everyday you wake up, and you're still in the nightmare. Some days, I just don't want to go on,” Allison Dansby, who was 26 when her son disappeared, said in 2014. She elaborated on her tragic experiences in the Unsolved Mysteries episode. With these kids now having been missing for over 30 years, hope is starting to dwindle. However, without any bodies found, there is still a chance for the families to be reunited. Please consider supporting the show by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/blackcoldcase When Unsolved Mysteries returned to our tv screens in July of 2020, one of their first cases was a doozy. The Netflix reboot of the show featured the case of a mid-twenties partygoer who may have been the victim of a series of hate crimes that ultimately lead to his death. If it wasn't for the reboot, however, his case would still be closed. Twenty-three-year-old Alonzo Brooks grew up in Topeka, Kansas. He was the youngest of 5 children, growing up with one older brother and three sisters. The 5 kids were raised by single mother Maria Ramirez. Maria had a special bond with Alonzo according to everyone who knew them. When Alonzo's older brother Billy turned eighteen and moved out, Alonzo and his mother move to the suburbs of Gardner. In what is perhaps a premonition, Billy felt that he needed to toughen his younger brother up — much to their mother's chagrin. She felt that he was trying to make Alonzo grow up to fast, but Billy felt that he needed to protect him from getting taken advantage of by his new peers. That premonition would bear out in a series of mystifying events.Support the show

On April 3rd, 2004, 23-year-old Alonzo Brooks left his home in Gardner, Kansas, and told his mother, Maria, he was headed to a party with friends. That was the last time she'd see her son alive. Less than 24 hours later, Maria tried to file a missing persons report on her son in La Cygne, Kansas, about an hour away from their home. Alonzo's friends who'd given him a ride to the party somehow left without him, at a party in a small town, where he was one of only three people of color in attendance. 27 days after Alonzo went missing, his family found his body on a creekbed, not far from the farmhouse where the party had been. Strangely enough, his body wasn't hidden, and the area had been searched multiple times before, with no signs of Alonzo. His manner of death was initially ruled as “undetermined” and closed by the KBI, stating there was no evidence of a homicide. Alonzo's family has continued to fight to prove that he was the victim of a hate crime and that his murderers are still walking free. Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! April 03, 2004. La Cygne, Kansas. On April 3rd, 2004 the normally reserved and laid back Alonzo Brooks decided to go to a house party with his friends. Alonzo couldn’t drive, so he rode with his friend Justin Sprague. They all arrived and were having a good time, until Justin left the party, leaving Alonzo stranded. Alonzo didn’t come home the next day and hadn’t contacted anyone about where he was. Nearly a month later, his body was found in a creek at the site of the party. To this day, no one knows what exactly happened to Alonzo that night, or how he ended up in that creek. For our bonus episodes visit: patreon.com/generationwhy ...Listen ad free with Wondery+. Even though there are no concrete answers, the FBI will use all of its resources to find answers to this hate crime.Today's episode comes to show us that hate, xenophobia, and racism are still present in American society. Cases like Alonzo's are very sad, but when solved, they will bring answers and equality to the country.

We're back on our bullshit at Talk'n Pop with another Netflix review! This time out, it's the revival of the popular, spooky anthology series that sent us all to bed with nightmares as children - Unsolved Mysteries! More than merely talking about the show however, Jenny and Tim decided to employ their considerable resources and vast intellects in the service of solving the mysteries! And be forewarned: SPOILERS abound. (Look, we can't solve the mysteries without disclosing the mysteries!) Our forensic trail features the following: *Memories of the OG Unsolved Mysteries and shows like it *The late, lamented Robert Stack (not actually scary, you just thought so because of the pants-shitting opening theme) *Competing theories on the sad fate of Rey Rivera *A possibly unfair narrative put forth by the documentary surrounding the disappearance and homicide of Patrice Endres (and justice for her future Too Hot To Handle contestant son, Pistol) *Opinions on whether that evil French guy is still alive or what *Alonzo Brooks, definitely dead as a result of foul play, but was it a hate crime? *Multiple accounts of a 1969 UFO encounter and why UFO culture today has us plain shook *A POS mom who totally killed her daughter and got away with it Talk'n Pop: solving crimes, fighting... mysteries..? All of these stories are now solved of course thanks to our efforts, but do try to push past the too-scary theme music and check 'em out if you haven't already so that it all makes sense. Finally, we close things out with an impromptu "state of the show" (no, it isn't going anywhere). Because amateur sleuthing for two hours apparently wasn't enough content. Enjoy!
On tonight's jampacked podcast we were in catch up mode and we killed it,even if we do say so ourselves. We put the spotlight on Epstein coconspirator Ghislaine Maxwell...Who is she and why does it matter? During sports news we went over a spirited update of our own TRIBE and there was news ranging from the Portland situation to an update on the Alonzo Brooks Case. Also a double dose of stand up comedy, an update from a weekend family gathering, great music and funny clips throughout and a whole lot more(like why LD chose today to make "dude look like a lady").
